I've attended my 20th, 25th, 30th, 35th reunions. They were all fantastic. Our graduating class had 168 people in it, so you knew practically everyone and the reunions have always been rather calm, warm, cozy affairs.
After the 20th, I started a twice-yearly class newsletter that kept everyone up to date and went on for five years until the 25th. I still have an class email address tree and folks occasionally send me news and tidbits to forward on to the class by email. I renewed a lot of friendships since that 20th reunion and look forward to any gathering of the clan.

I've only been to a few school reunions. The memories of others are interesting! I did not really care to go back! I'm more of the view that if I really cared for and about the people I would still be in contact. We've all moved on.
I did at my last reunion (50 years of my School) last year, keep in mind "There's A Kid Inside" which has so much truth. I was not a particularly social student - and I'm not a particularly social adult. I enjoyed School but I don't look back on my School days with rose coloured glasses. My fondest memories of childhood were not of school.

-I had to finish that chart I was working on earlier since it doesn't look like I'll have time to finish it today/tomorrow/Saturday/Sunday with my pending return trip back to NYC.
Thankfully, my brain has stopped whirring around, and I'm feeling a bit drowsy, so I'm hoping I fall right asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow.

Well, I went to a private, Catholic high school. I did receive a wonderful education there, but since I'm now out of the closet, I'm pretty sure I would not be welcome back there. And, frankly, I don't want to go back there. It's not so much the anit-gay thing, as the anti-anyone-who-didn't-play-a-sport thing. You were either a "jock" or you were "nothing". So...
I did have some good friends in high school, but the friends I still have from my high school days went to other high schools. So, I hang out with them nowadays. Still.

Last night I watched “Something’s Gotta Give”, with Jack Nicholson and Dian Keaton, derected by Nancy Mayers ( I already saw it once last year) and I enjoyed it very much this time, too. Jack Nicholson was marvelous and super funny, as always, and my favorite actress, Frances McDormand performed heroine’s feminist-sister charmingly in it, and French music was pretty as well.

Good morning, all! I have to go in to the recording office and proof the last score for Chicago this morning, phone the fixes to Tom Murray, and then wait for the corrected orchestra parts to arrive on the computer. When we print them out and tape them, I will pack them awat for Chicago.
Tonight, I have no plans, so I expect to spend my evening chilling out. If I can get to the NYPL Music collection, I may check out a full score or two for some pleasant study/listen. If not, perhaps a scary DVD for Halloween.
DRJose, I would love to be at Carnegie Hall with you on Wednesday, but I'm in Chicago! Sorry. Perhaps DRRodzinski, who was feeling puny last night, will be in better health.

We had fun at Captain Louie last night but sadly could not join folks for diner afterward as Rodzinski had a miserable cold. The show was very cute, but I actually spent most of it preoccupied with one girl in the cast who was a dead ringer for my middle school best friend. She looked exactly like her at that age, it was spooky.

On the TOD: I recently attended my 10 year high school reunion. I had some mixed feelings about going- I wasn't the most popular gal in high school and I've actually maintained strong friendships with most of the folks I was friends with back then.
But, I was curious about how everyone looked. And since I looked fabulous, and had moved out to NYC, and had a good job, and was in grad school. I felt pretty "safe" going.
I had a good time and drank way too much, but it was good to see how people had turned out. I won an award for fartherst travelled (which I took to mean not only physical distance but my emotional journey as well :)) My only wish was that I had "mingled" more. The set up was pretty crappy- the dance floor was in a separate room than the bar so you had to choose between dancing or chatting by the bar. I chose dancing for the most part so I missed talking to a lot of people. Overall it was an odd event, but I'm glad I went.

Hooray! My parents' power is back on in Miami Beach.
Just wanted to share that. My mother's been nursing a shoulder fracture and the lack of power and hot water had made the situation worse.

And now I'm off to haul the parental units and varous and sundried aunts & uncles around town. I'll post some pics when I get the chance (I took 72 pictures yesterday alone).

Our high school wasn't going to organize a 10th reunion, so I joined with a few friends to organize one. I was so busy making sure everything was in order and sort of playing host that I didn't get to find out that much about the people I hadn't seen for ten years, but I had a real sense of accomplishment for having thrown the party.
I didn't get to the 25-year reunion for reasons that I don't remember. But I heard lots about it and saw lots of pictures, so it was almost like I was there.

Yesterday turned out better than I thought it would.
Our mission was to get the older grandlad, Alex, to eat a proper meal for dinner. "It's not my fault I like junk food," he declared. "God made me that way." Sheesh, at eight years he's already making excuses and blaming others for his own faults, just like his mother.
Alex's problems with cholesterol aren't as bad as Mommy had let us believe. He's a borderline case, barely in trouble, but Mommy is bullish when it comes to red flags. So, der Brucer decided the best way around the problem would be for us to get him lots of fruit (which he would help pick), and a couple of steaks (cutting out the extra fatty parts) and mashed taters with reduced fat sour cream, and some baked beans. Oh, and biscuits. William, the five-year, will eat almost anything, of course.
There would be no mac and cheese, now on the verbotten list. No grilled cheese sandwich. No hot dog. The foods he thinks are the only foods he likes are the ones he now won't be allowed to subsist on.
Der B involved both lads in making the fruit salad, cutting the fruit into reasonable chunks (with regular table knives, not sharp ones). They liked that. Mommy won't let them join in preparing dinner.
Then, as the lads and der Grampa settled in to watch The Music Man, I got the rest of dinner going. I chopped up a small onion, which I cooked slowly in a pan before adding a squirt of mustard and the beans. I got the instant mashed potatoes made. I got the corn steamed. I baked the biscuits. And I sizzled the steaks.
Everyone to the table. (The salad had been served in front of the TV, acceptable for a first course I guess.) Alex spotted the onions in the beans, and demanded to know what "that stuff" was. We explained that it was onions, and that I'd made them exactly the same was as I had for his birthday. He was suspicious, and was about to refuse to eat them, but changed his mind when I growled at him. I don't growl often, but the lads know it's a signal to pay attention.
They both ate well. I had to cut William's piece of steak for him, which he ate and then asked for more. Alex enjoyed the potatoes, and the corn, and some of his steak, and even the beans. The biscuits went over well. And then, when it was time for the strawberry dessert, he was willing to wait patiently while William finished his plate of food...but we didn't make Alex wait longer, because William wanted seconds on the taters. There are limits, after all.
After dinner, they both dashed back to watch the rest of The Music Man. I'm not sure if Alex liked it all (there's all that mushy stuff with Shirley Jones), but he stuck it out and enjoyed a lot of the film. William was already asleep when Mommy and Daddy returned from their date nite (spent shopping for a four-wheeler for Daddy). And all was well.

Oh, Jose, if you get a chance please tell Sir Elton that Alex absolutely loves the Caribou album, which we've been playing lately in the car. He particularly loves "The Bitch is Back." But he's agreed not to tell his mother about the song. :o

Forgot to mention last night that I did watch Thursday night's NIGHT STALKER, and I'm sorry to say that I'm about ready to give up on this show. Forget that the surprise "monster" was clear to the viewer less than halfway through the episode (though everyone else was stumbling around pointing accusing fingers at the wrong person). But the most irritating aspect of the show is this partnership of Kolchak with a female reporter whose only purpose seems to be to pour cold water on his theories until EVERY SINGLE WEEK she's made to see that she was wrong and he was right.
I really don't mind the monster of the week syndrome, but the stupid partner of the week syndrome has pretty much driven me away. I think I'm done with it.

I have never attended a high school reunion and have no desire to. For that matter, I've never attended a college reunion either. The friends I had from those days I still keep in touch with, but reliving memories with a large number of people who I wasn't close to then just isn't very appealing to me.

Hope DR Rodzinski's cold lessens soon. I know how miuserable that can make one feel.

This is actually the first morning this week that I haven't awakened with a queasy stomach and feeling rather blah. I've been thinking all week that I was on the verge of catching something, but either I fought it off or it was a mild bug that didn't do me any serious damage.

Trying to decide if I even want to waste time with CATWOMAN starring Halle Berry. It's premiering on HBO tonight, and I know it got dreadful reviews. Is it bad enough to be entertaining (VALLEY OF THE DOLLS bad) or is it just a miserable experience to sit through.
Has anyone here rented it or did anyone see it in the theater?

Drat! I'll have to make do with my NUN'S STORY laserdisc now for the foreseeable future! :(

On the other hand, Fox has placed PINKY back on their release schedule for January after having had it there last year and then pulled it.
Also upcoming is another Shirley Temple three pack with REBECCA OF SUNNYBROOK FARM, BABY TAKE A BOW, and DIMPLES included.
Of course, DIMPLES was one of the first Temple releases.

Well, after getting a bit more info from the conductor this morning - we were both sort of rushed late night when we had our initial conversation - I'm not exactly sure whether or not I'll be meeting Sir Elton next week. There's a good possibility, but nothing definite. -However, I did find out that I am not playing for the presentation on Tuesday night - WHEW! That prospect was really freaking me out. However, I am invited to attend said presentation. And, I'm still very excited! Ah, Hugh Panaro and Carolee Carmello in the same room with me! Musical theatre heaven!

As for Nanci Griffith, DR Rodzinski is going to check to see if he anything available at the office. Otherwise, I'm gonna check online to see what the prices are. -However, I do have to say, that I feel like splurging/celebrating, so... We'll see... ;)
*I really do think you'd LOVE her in concert (if you haven't seen her before), and I know you'd really love her opening act, Elizabeth Cook, due to your affection for Ms. Parton. Kindred spirits. And I believe The Crickets will be along for the festivities too.

DR MattH - I'd suggest checking to see what unwatched DVDs you have and/or if anything is left unwatched on your DVR. "Catwoman" is not even "A Chorus Line" bad - it's worse... or would that be "better"?

I've told this story before.
I insisted that der Brucer come with me to my 20th HS reunion. He, in turn, insisted that I not tell everyone that I'm gay. He was still unsure of being out of the closet at the time. So, with this shackle place on me, we drove up the hill to the Universal City Hilton for an interesting night.
We were seated at a table with a bunch I'd worked with on the school paper. One, Louann, found this older gent sitting next to me intrigueing. "Who are you with?" she kept asking der B. "I'm with him," he repeatedly pointed to me. "No, really, who are you with?"
After over an hour, someone else took Louann aside and hissed "Louann, they're gay." Louann was apologetic, of course, for having missed the obvious.
But der B learned his lesson that night. What he thought was obvious, and didn't need saying, did need to be said at times. And he later apologized to me, for having put the ban on the word and identification.
It was after that, of course, that he started taking me to all sorts of events, making it very clear to everyone that I was his partner. And he's lived happily ever after.

...And back to my high school reunion for a bit...
From the various e-mails and postcards I've received over the years, I'm guessing a lot of people in my class don't want to go back "there". -And/or they've just moved to far away to make a reunion "practical" - lots of diplomatic and congressional kids at my school.
I remember the initial mailing for my 10 year reunion. They originally planned to have it in the same ballroom that my Senior Prom was held in (the Senior Prom I did not go to either). Well, after a lack of response and interest, it was announced that we would meet at a bar that one of the alumni owned. Then it went to the school cafeteria. Then finally to the school's busport for a cookout and mixer. Hmm...
I've been getting feelers already for my 20 year reunion next year. So far, the planning committee seems to be starting out small this time, and depending upon the number of R.S.V.P.s then they will adjust the meeting space accordingly.

Read a long interview with the producers behind the upcoming KING KONG DVD set. Sounds like they've moved heaven and earth to make this the best KING KONG ever.
I have the Criterion laserdisc of KING KONG. Admittedly never one of my favorite films, I can recognize that it's a classic and highly sought after by fans.
I guess it's too much to hope that the running commentary from the Criterion disc by the late Ron Haver would be leased from them for this release. Just like with SINGIN' IN THE RAIN, he has very informative and entertaining things to say about the movie, and it's a shame these scholarly but very accessible commentaries are lost to time.

And due to the size of my college, a reunion is sort of impractical. Instead, they will have "Homecoming Weekends" every now and then - people from a block of years, and certain schools/degree programs are invited to gather for some food and drink. And since most of the people I went to school with - including myself - were on the five- or six-year plan - the whole "Class of" designation is moot. *And the music education track at my school was a five-year program by design. Sure, you could do it in four years, but then you would have had absolutely no time for yourself.

Saturday greetings! It's a beautifully crisp day here in SW Ohio and we're off later to visit DS Rob on the UC campus.
TOD - I only attended my 10th high school reunion and realized how little HS had to do with what my life had become. My parents moved out of my HS neighborhood as I was getting ready to go away to college (when I got home from freshman orientation, my bed was gone!), so my ties were severed pretty abruptly. By the 10th anniversary, I'd moved out of state and established myself in a profession and not yet married, so I was pretty out of place.
I do get to DH Richard's (and, therefore, DR elmore's) reunions on quite a regular basis, because they're right here in the town where we live. At their 40th last year, one of their female classmates looked me up and down and said, "And who were you?" That question has haunted me ever since.

Oh, I just looked it up. Chuck Connors is in FLIPPER, but Brian Kelly is in the sequel! Oh, well, that's one out of two.

Brian Kelly wasn't in the first FLIPPER movie...it was made prior to the television series and had Chuck Connors in the role of Porter Ricks...but Kelly is in the second FLIPPER movie, which I own, but haven't watched yet.

I see that my DVR is currently recording something. I have no idea what I had programmed in it, but I guess I will see in a little while as I prepare and eat lunch.
Still not sure if I'll go with my choice of WOLF for today, or find something else I might be a little more enthusiastic about. I certainly did enjoy reinvestigating THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH last night, and am thinking maybe REAR WINDOW might be fun today.

Oh... Speaking of good things...
-Spending time with my friend, Andy, last night. We actually almost skipped the concert, but we were both very glad that we went after all. It was really was a wonderful concert, and Andy's been helping me to appreciate country and folk music more. *And I'm always still taken aback by the fact that Andy is such a country music fan - his father worked for the government, and he spent a good chunk of his childhood in Japan and elsewhere overseas. He's also a big-time war fanatic - WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, etc. And, on top of all that, he's gay!?!?! Whaddup widdat??!?!?
-And the food at the Birchmere was surprisingly good too. I had a very nice catfish fillet last night.
-We headed back over to the Carlyle for dessert. I actually did not get my usual, the Flourless Chocolate Macadamia Nut Waffle, but instead gave their featured dessert a try. The waiter could not seem to get the proper phrase out... "We have a pudding cake... white chocolate.. chocolate pudding..." -Oh, a White Chocolate Pudding Cake? "Yes, that's it." -What does that come with? "A scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream and white chocolate sauce" -OK, I'll give it a try.
So, I was expecting a "glob" of White Chocolate Pudding Cake to arrive at the table - something like a very moist cake - like a white chocolate version of the Pudding Cake at Joe Allen. Well... What came to the table instead was a "White Chocolate Bread Pudding". I had sort of figured it out as soon as it hit the table - it was baked in an individual ramekin - with the scoop of vanilla ice cream sitting nicely on top.
It was good - and I was very tempted to correct the waiter, but, I wasn't in the mood to correct. -However, the waiter kept trying to push snifters of Courvoisier on us. ??
-Oh, and I won $40 playing the Pick 3 Lottery last night too!

BK mentioned getting the new Criterion version of THE WAGES OF FEAR the other day. I have their first release of this classic and haven't gotten around to watching it yet even though it's been sitting on the shelf for a couple of years.
Looking forward to reading his thoughts about the new one before I watch the old one! :)

One sneaky way a friend of mine works vegetables into her kids' diet it to make various dips with lots of pureed vegetables. Sorry I didn't check back in last night. I did a lot of running around and was just so tired by the time I did all that and then came home to make dinner that I just pooped out in front of the TV.
I just discovered Ghost Whisper and the show after it (can't think of the name--the Sci Fi one with B (Brett, Brad, Brent??) Spinner in it) last Friday night and I really like both of them.
Like DR Matt, I'm starting to lose it for Night Stalker.
TOD, I have never been to one of my high school reunions and have no desire to do so.

Thanks for the nice words. We loved having everybody over. And even though you guys didn't eat enough :) the dogs were definitely happy with the amount of food that was dropped.
On a less festive note, I just heard from my folks in Miami Beach and their power is out again. it was on for about six hours, but luckily they had bathed and stuff like that while they had the hot water.

I do get to DH Richard's (and, therefore, DR elmore's) reunions on quite a regular basis, because they're right here in the town where we live. At their 40th last year, one of their female classmates looked me up and down and said, "And who were you?" That question has haunted me ever since.
Considering the comment probably came from one of the alcoholic, divorced, former cheerleaders I used to see around town before moving to New York, I'd say the questioner is already haunted!
Speaking of haunted, you should have some ideas there for a Halloween costume.

Trying to decide if I even want to waste time with CATWOMAN starring Halle Berry. It's premiering on HBO tonight, and I know it got dreadful reviews. Is it bad enough to be entertaining (VALLEY OF THE DOLLS bad) or is it just a miserable experience to sit through.
Has anyone here rented it or did anyone see it in the theater?
I experienced "Cat Woman" on my return flight from SC last December.
I didn't have earphones, and didn't have interest in requesting any, but it was visually entertaining and seemed like it might be quite fun. Of course, I was spared the possibility of dialogue that might have ruined the visuals, but it "looked" fun.

Anne did play a mean cello, and I always liked her and Steve, her husband. Anne was the only person I knew at our August 1968 college graduation. I don't know why she didn't graduate in June. I've never done a formal reunion.
I've reunited with former college friends and had lots of fun, though.
There were some "kids" in high school I not only never want to see again but never want to hear of again, unless I see an obituary! (It would be my luck that "they" would be the only other ones at a reunion...and I'd have to put them out of my misery.)
College is different, although I'm also less inclined to attend a reunion having seen them in progress each homecoming while I was a student. They seemed happy, but it looked kinda "sad".
Much preferable is that I'm on a mailing list of many of the folks who were special to me and we keep moving closer to our own, smaller, get-together in the near future. Oddly, many have moved from far and wide to within 20 miles of the college we all attended. We all fell in love with the mountains around our school and it's hot property now.

I once had two cats...Dickens, a male Persian hybrid (looked like a gray Maine coon), and Miss Vickie, a female calico.
When I was ill, Dickens sensed it immediately and he would get up on the bed and snuggle up against me as if to keep me warm. He was never restless and never complained if I slept past his feeding time.
Vickie, on the other hand, never seemed to sense anything like that. She couldn't have cared less, and was quite fussy when meal time came around despite the fact that I felt like death warmed over.
My question: Do Walty or Killbot have any sympathetic traits toward their humans like my Dickens seemed to have?
And for anyone else with cats: Has your cat every sensed your illness and been empathetic and snuggled with you?

Ron, for the most part, except for our Tortie & White, all our cats have been somewhat sensitive to our feelings, none as much My Sin, our black cat with white markings. Come to think of it our long haired cat Gaia, with the same markings, was an exceptionally sensitive & kind cat. Kind wasn’t really the word for My Sin, however if anyone in the family was upset or crying she was right there to comfort you.

I've never gone to a high school or college reunion. In high school, most of my friends were in choir with me, but most of them were in classes before and after me, not my class. So, I have very few friends from the class of 1984 and really no desire, whatsoever, to go to a reunion with a bunch of people I don't know. ::)

TOD, I've been to my 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 year reunions. I enjoyed all of them. The 10th was the craziest. We ended up at a swimming pool at a farm in the middle of the night...it's a little foggy, lol I do enjoy them and every time I go I end up spending at least some time with someone I really didn't know very well before. It's just sort of happens.
DR Jane, yes, I have a long blonde wig, the dress and apron from the costume shop, white tights and little black shoes and a black ribbon for my hair.....it's a $9.99 wig, so when I post a photo, keep that in mind! I was playing with make-up options today

As far as chores go...I had lots of plans to get them done today and haven't done any....tomorrow will be chores day. I have to at least get the place decent enough for my brother to spend the night tomorrow night. At least he isn't too particular.

We're at the Warner Center Hilton in Woodland Hills. Because we just had the 6th grade reunion, I saw the couple of people who were interesting to see. Not sure they'll be anyone tonight, but you never know.
Re Feltenstein: Let's ask this question - why is he giving interviews all about the upcoming Peckinpah box set when he was the one person who tried to kill the project at every step, over a two year period. And I don't mean just tried to kill the project in a general way - I mean he did terrible things to try to stab that project and the people who were involved in it in the back at every turn. I can't go into more details than that, but let me assure you that your jaw would be on the floor if I outlined some of the things this guy did. And if it's successful he will be the first to speak up and take credit. And if it isn't, he will be the first to say, "I told you so." He put this release in January, usually a graveyard time because of Christmas. And then, as if that weren't enough, he just announced about ten other titles being released that month as well, which Warners NEVER does.

Back from our short visit with DS Rob in Cincinnati. He needed some things from home to complete his Indiana Jones costume for a Halloween thing at the church he's been attending. We took him out for a sandwich and then for Graeter's ice cream - I had Chocolate Coconut Almond Fudge - YUM! Rob had to get back to his residence hall for guys' night - all the girls on their floor are going to Disney Princesses on Ice, so the guys are getting together to try to "balance the universe."

Hi all. Mom got 2 shots, one for the flu and the other for Pneumonia (I think I spelled it right). She didn't know I went ahead and paid for the second shot until it went into her arm.
It was a lot of drama for someone her age so we came right home and she went to lay down for a bit.
I dug though the back shed, looking for the little animal transport that we bought for Bear when he was a baby. Friend possum (or should I say Opossum) has shown up every night and while I have nothing against him/her, it's causing the dogs to bark. I don't want any problems with the neighbors so friend possum has got to go!
Tonight I shall attempt to catch and put him/her in the carrier. Tomorrow I'll take him/her to the State Park to do a release. At least that is the plan.

Don't feel rained on, DR Elmore. The only F I ever had in school was in PE. I just couldn't do those darn pull ups and we had to do 50 or fail. Well, I couldn't do 5!
My strength just isn't in my arms. I've often said that if I was hanging from the side of a cliff and had to pull myself up, you might as well lean over and kiss me goodbye because my arms just are not strong enough. :D

I'm glad to know that Dickens wasn't the exception. I know cats are independent as all get-out and get a terribly bad rap, but it's good to know that your experiences meet my own with Dickens.
Vickie had her own demons from her kittenhood, a couple of years before I took her into my home, and it took years for her little personality to totally swing around. I'm certain she never got the chance to develop normally, but she was a cool cat nevertheless.

Good Evening!
I'm back from my nephew's birthday party. He turned seven! -I kept thinking he was turning six. My how time flies.
There was a Pirate theme to the party, complete with a treasure hunt through the neighborhood, and a skull shaped piñata. My brother and his wife planned a very good party. I do have to say that having 12 kids running around a small townhouse on a sugar high did get a bit overwhelming at times, but things ran very smoothly. And there was cake galore! Along with frosting galore which John Michael just started painting on his face.
Lots of pictures were taken, and once I get the copies sent from my brothers and my parents then I'll be sure and post one or two of the festivities.
I also got to meet some of the friends of my brother and his wife. There was one gentleman there, a captain in the Air Force, who provided a nice distraction throughout the evening. He had one of those faces where his eyes were always smiling.

George Feltenstein's name graced all those terrrific laser issues from the MGM library when laser was the rage....all those movies with extra features from the MGM vaults we never thought we'd see seemed to have resulted from his involvement.
And then he rode the Rhino wave of MGM musical releases (although I think the best of the CDs were overseen by Marilee Bradford!).
Maybe he thinks the pond's too small for all the people trying to swim in it.
There are a ton of folks out there who know his name and believe he's responsible for what we've gotten, thus far.
But it's naive to believe he's all wonderful...and he could well be the "Helen Lawson" of home video.
Isn't/wasn't our own Nick Redman heavily involved in that Peckinpah set?

And as for the job front...
As I had hoped, the "decision" has been made for me. I will play the first week of Lestat rehearsals in NYC next week, Monday-Saturday. Then I will head back down to DC for Damn Yankees the following week. That will take me through February 5, and then I head back to NYC for Lestat's Broadway run on February 12.
Again, it was going to be a win-win situation however which way it turned out. And, frankly, I'm very relieved that they were able to work everything and everyone out in NYC for Lestat. -I was not looking forward to agonizing over a pretty major decision if it had come to that. *And I don't have to rush any of the prep work I still have to do for the DC gig anymore.
And I'm looking forward to seeing my name listed in the back of the Playbill under "Rehearsal Pianists".

Yep... All those first, second, third, fourth, fifth... generation Liners seem to dance from one production to the next. And once they're done with their dancing days, then they go on to directing and choreographing the show. There's a great sense of "family" to the whole enterprise. -And I was fortunate to be welcomed into that family last fall when I played for A Chorus Line in Houston. Baayork Lee - the original Connie - was the director/choreographer, and Fran Liebergall - the original pianist, and eventual musical supervisor - was the MD/Conductor. *I know where are all the errors in the score are now!

Then I will head back down to DC for Damn Yankees the following week. That will take me through February 5, and then I head back to NYC for Lestat's Broadway run on February 12.
Again, it was going to be a win-win situation however which way it turned out. And, frankly, I'm very relieved that they were able to work everything and everyone out in NYC for Lestat. -I was not looking forward to agonizing over a pretty major decision if it had come to that. *And I don't have to rush any of the prep work I still have to do for the DC gig anymore.
And I'm looking forward to seeing my name listed in the back of the Playbill under "Rehearsal Pianists".

Ron, years ago when three of our cats were still fairly young my sister had surgery. The plan was to stay with my parents while she was recovering. As expected she got in a quarrel with my mother and called us to take her in. All we had was a couch and great concern all the cats would jump on her, which would not have been a good thing. Not a one did. Until then my sister never liked cats. They were all so gentle and careful with them she fell in love with cats.

I watched three DVDs this evening.
First up was the remaining 3/4 of REAR WINDOW which I had started earlier today.
I do think this is my favorite Hitchcock movie. And the documentary which gave information about the building of that multi-level set was very interesting.

In honor of upcoming Halloween eve, I put in WOLF. This transfer has been around awhile, but I just bought it on sale last week. The quality can't compare with the brand new transfers of new films, but it was still reasonably sharp with a decent transfer without much debris to mar the picture. It did offer a Dolby Digital 5.1 sound option, but there wasn't much subwoofer activity to speak of, and the surrounds weren't as active as a modern day mix of this would be.
I had forgotten so much about it not having seen the movie in some time. I didn't remember Mike Nichols directed it. I didn't remember how many quality actors besides Nicholson, Pfeiffer, and Spader were in it: Eileen Atkins, David Hyde-Pierce, Richard Jenkins, Kate Nelligan. And I didn't remember such soon-to-be stars like Allison Janney and David Schwimmer had bit roles in the film.
I've always found the movie to be moody and almost hypnotic in its modern take on werewolves, and I enjoyed seeing it again tonight.

Then, still under the influence of Alfred Hitchcock from the previous two nights, I put in NORTH BY NORTHWEST. Oh, what a marvelous movie experience this is.
It's the first time I've watched it since getting this larger TV screen, and the credit sequence with the titles sliding up and down on angles at the beginning was totally mesmerizing with that classic score. I played the credit sequence twice it was so impressive to see.

I will definitely get to some episodes from THE ADVENTURES OF LOIS AND CLARK tomorrow and possibly another film from the to-watch shelf.

The movie that I'd had the DVR to record during the day was THE MASK OF DIMITROS, always one of my favorite mysteries. I haven't seen it in awhile, so I'll be enjoying it in the next few days, too.

One of the few Hitchcock pictures I don't own on DVD is MR. AND MRS. SMITH. I only saw it once some time ago, so I have the DVR programmed to catch it when it comes on at some early hour of the morning in the next couple of days. I'll rewatch it to see if my original feeling about it has changed. If so, I'll find a used copy of it to purchase.

I don't think I've ever planned that far in advance for anything. Even when I went to London with my sister and niece, it was all pretty quick. Maybe two months from the time the tickets were bought to the day we left.

Checking in, feebly. I've been E&T lately due to a combination of overwork and illness (and late World Series games early in the week).
Took TPunk out to the ballet today at City Center, which was quite nice, and I managed to not let my antihistamines put me to sleep. A quick dinner at Shelly's Steakhouse and then back home to bed.
CAPTAIN LOUIE was a cute show. Pleasant cast of kids. I wouldn't have thought to turn the book it was based on into a musical or thought to bring it to a large off-Broadway house in a million years, but what do I know?

Hello, fellow dear readers.
I am tired. Today I took my 10-year-old buddy hiking. He is a challenging child with some behavioral problems, but one-on-one we get along pretty well. He reminds me of Alex, the grandlad, in that he is a very picky eater and has tested high for cholesterol and is quite chubby. He also only eats junk food.
After hiking, I did some shopping. Then I had to do the stuff for Sunday, seeing how I only got the info from the music director last night. I spent a couple hours at the office and got home around 8 p.m.
And then I had to bake a cake for the potluck before tomorrow's board meeting. All I can say is thank goodness for cake mixes.
So it has been a full day.

TOD: I have been to my 10th and 20th high school reunions. I felt like I didn't know any of those people. My 30th is next summer. I have no idea if I'll go.
The first reunion, most of us had small kids. The second one, most had second spouses. I wonder what the third one would be like? I suppose some of us will be grandparents.

I watched part of one mildly entertaining movie this evening, made for TV, I guess, but it had a lot of curse words overdubbed. It was called SANTA SLAY, I think. Turns out Santa is really a demon who lost a bet and had to be nice for 1,000 years, but that time is now up, so now all he wants to do is kill. Robert Culp has a nice role in it. And the wrestler called Goldberg plays Santa.

Ooohh.. Just checked the weather forecast for this week up in NYC... Mostly sunny with daytime temps in the upper 60s/lower 70s. -Of course, the evening temps are supposed to dip down into the 40s, but, heck, it's practically November.

Well, I just booked myself on the 11:00 Acela out of Union Station. *Interesting Amtrak pricing on the weekends. The regular fares for the regular regional trains actually go up from $84 to $104. However, the Acela - which makes the trip to NYC in just three hours - runs it's normal $134. So, I splurged for the faster, nicer train.
I should get in around 2:00, then I'm meeting up with the conductor to get a copy of the score, and then I'll most likely head over to some practice studio to read through the score.
Well, Excited and scared.

I'm finally home. It's been another long day, but a better one than yesterday - not quite as taxing on the feet or the nerves. :)
My dad and his brother headed off to see the USS Intrepid while I hauled my mom and aunt to Macy's. After that we did a whirlwind shopping tour of Herald Square (to purchase a few articles of clothing for my upcoming birthday) and came out with quite a haul. Thanks, Mom and Dad.
The guys took a cab down to 34th St. to meet us, but we ended up heading uptown for lunch - at Bennigan's, where we had the worst service I can remember in my New York history. We headed back to the hotel and took an hour-long nap whilst my dad headed to Madison Ave. to check out a clothier from which he frequently orders.
After the loverly reprieve, we headed to the official HHW Restaurant, Joe Allen, for some dinner before AIDA. While we were there we indeed had several celebrity sightings - Rosemary Harris was at the table next to us. Lisa Loeb was at BK's favorite table and Mr. Rip Torn passed by outside the restaurant.
We dashed up to Lincoln Center for AIDA and made it in PLENTY of time. I was ready to leave by the end of the second act, but...I've seen the show twice already. The rest of them decided they really wanted to see the rest, even though none of them were really enjoying the singing. Luckily for them, my boss was kind enough to take us backstage during the third intermission to observe the half-hour long massive scene change. They were way impressed. Even better, everyone at the Opera House with whom I work simply gushed over me, which made me look really good. :)
On the way back to the hotel, we ran into SNL's Colin Quinn and Ms. Cherry Jones.
And now I'm home and ready to pass out. I have to meet them tomorrow morning at 9:15 for church and then it's off to 5th Ave. At 5pm we sup at Rosie O'Grady's and at 7pm we see MAMMA MIA! We're also tentatively scheduled to go to the observatory at the Empire State Bldg. after the show, but I might postpone that to Monday night. We'll see...
Jose/Rodzinski: Let me know the stats on the tickets. Jose sold me when he said the opening act and Dolly were kindred spirits. ;)

Well, I'm back from the party. It was fun, but not that well attended. It's the first year they've tried doing a Halloween party and it really was well done, so hopefully next year will be better.

Those are wonderful pictures! At my work, we're having a costume contest "break" but it's not a pot-luck...just desserts, only. I have a hat that has "This IS My Costume" written on it and it blinks! That will be my costume. ;) Otherwise, I'll be dressed all in black to match the hat, mainly because I have no other idea for a costume.

Re: Feltenstein - George's m.o. is to convince everyone that he's the man responsible for everything that has to do with Warners titles. You see it on the DVD ngs all the time - George this, George that - well, he's in marketing. He doesn't do the transfers, and he isn't responsible for the content, in most cases. And, if it's a failure, he stays clear, but even if it's a release he's tried to kill that's successful, then up he steps.
And yes, our very own Nick Redman was a driving force behind the Peckinpah set.
