Well, you've read the notes, you've twiddled the notes, the notes have twiddled you, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're off twiddling and they LOVE it, so it might be a while.

I'm listening to a re-broadcast of Friday Night is Music Night on BBC 2 right now.

I don't know what I will be listening to as the day proceeds. I'm working on a revision of our training manual so it's easy enough to listen to something as I work.

I'm all alone here at 7:40am on Friday, November 18th, 2005.

Mr. Moore is here according to the list at the top of the page.

Good Morning sir.

I have read two reviews of The Woman in White, one from the Reuters critic and one from Ben Brantley at the Times. Both are mixed. I will go away now and read the reviews from the Daily News, Newsday and the New York Post.

The review round up for Woman in White is decent. No raves, except for Maria Friedman, but no outright pans either. Michael Ball also gets some good reviews. You can go to

Broadway World (http://www.broadwayworld.com/robsblog/)

to get capsule reviews.

Good morning, Ben!  And good morning, all!  I, too, thought WITHOUT A TRACE was quite wonderful.  I knew Mr LaPaglia many years ago, when he was a bartender and Drama Book Shop habitue; nice man, and I think he's wonderful on the show.

Dear Friend BK, the groans worldwide will be loud all morning, thanks to your curdled cream account.  I hope the rest of your day goes excellently.

I'm off to Toyland:  yesterday my esteemed colleague Mr Tom Murray made a trip to the Library of Congress to check out some minutiae in the Herbert collection and to photocopy some stock arrangements on BABES, published between 1903 and 1905, made by Mr Herbert's esteemed colleague and orchestrator Otto Langey.  Today, we'll go through the materials he's copied.

TOD:
  DVD:  I still have THE WIZARD OF OZ; I want to check out the early films
  CD:  Mario Frangoulis, The Last Starfighter
  VCR:  the usual suspects

MeDiA cHeCk:

iPod:  Kate Bush's first recording in 17 years--Aerial.  Very sweet and surreal stuff.  Next up will be the new Green Day live CD.

What won't be making an appearance on my iPod is the new Cyndi Lauper CD.  It contains the Sony XCP software which must be installed onto any PC it's to be played on and which has since been proved to be malware.  Sony is recalling all of the recordings that it released with this software, but I haven't heard any details on how that is supposed to happen.  I suppose I could play it on my portable CD player and patch it through to my PC and record it to MP3 files, but that strikes me as a lot of work for what should normally be a simple process.  This is the kind of corporate crap that makes me hate the music industry.

Tivo:  Gawd--I have about three episodes of INVASION to catch up on, along with the one that I missed recording about three weeks ago.  I keep hoping that INVASION will show up in the iTunes music store.

Friday morning greetings!

Media check:

CD (car) - A Saturday Tradition by The University of Michigan Marching Band.  Had to have my own private Wolverine pep rally on my way to work, because at noontime I'll be going downstairs to our training office for Jen's 4th annual Buckeye Bash.  She always has a big spread on the Friday before the UM/OSU game and I always wear one of my Michigan sweatshirts to annoy her!

DVD - Six Feet Under, season 4, disc 4; HBO's Warm Springs, starring Kenneth Branagh as FDR and Cynthia Nixon as Eleanor.

VCR - After Jose's comments last night, I'll have to watch The Joy Luck Club.  That is one of my all time favorite books and the one for which my book group is named.

My schedule is totally ker-flammered today.  I thought der B and I were going to take Peggy to her potential new home.  Unfortunately, the fella who will hopefully be adopting her didn't re-contact der B, which means that trip is cancelled for now.  Also unfortunately, der B didn't make this clear yesterday, so I didn't know how the plans had changed until just a few minutes ago.

So, suddenly I've got an entire day to myself.  Der Grampa is off to the grandlad's school, for Grandparent's Day.  He won't be home until eight-ish tonight.

And I just realized that the CD for Last Starfighter is in the car.  And der B has already left.  So much for a reading-and-listening combo.  Drat.

My very public thanks to FJL and Skip!  I'll be doing the reading part today, and I'm looking forward to discovering how you've adapted the piece.  If there's anything I enjoy that isn't kitchen-oriented, it's reading a new script and playing it in my mind's theater!

Besides today being the Great American Smokeout Day, today is also Married to a Scorpio Support Day.

I can think of few things more frightening than being married to a Scorpio who is quitting smoking.  Chills up and down my spine, I tell you, absolute chills.

Today is also National Vichyssoise Day.  That's for those of you who like cold soup.  Why this is celebrated during a month that hormally has cold weather, I haven't a clue.

And we also celebrate St. Peter the Apostle today.  St. Peter is the patron of bakers, butchers, fishermen, harvesters, and...foot problems?  I suppose we should be glad he isn't also the patron saint of grape stompers.   :P

ON THIS DAY, in 1307, the legendary William Tell shot an apple from his son's head.  The concept of child abuse was quite different back then.

Speaking of abuse, ON THIS DAY in 1874, the Women's Christian Temperance Union was formed in Cleveland, Ohio.  (I've a hunch these ladies wouldn't have approved of the name "Long Island Iced Tea."  Their loss.)

And my Bollywood movie for this weekend (which I started watching last night) is LALKAR (1972). This star studded World War ll film is tons of fun and is likely to become one of my favorite vintage Bollywoods!

I am not usually a big fan of war films but then most war films don't have a lot of song and dance numbers in them! LOL!

TOD:

CD - Nothing
VCR - The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit (nice performances by Gregory Peck and Jennifer Jones)
DVD:  The Hammer Horror Collection.  So far I have watched CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF, Oliver Reed is a sexy werewolf indeed, BRIDES OF DRACULA, Dracula ain't in it, but Baron Meinster is, PHANTOM OF THE OPERA with Herbert Lom - I liked the backstory, but not seeing the villian the awful Michael Gough get killed is a disappointment, PARANOIAC a nifty thriller again with Oliver Reed and Ted Casablanca himself, Alex Davion.

PHANTOM also features Edward de Sousa, who I think is an acquaintance of DR CP.

Good vibes for the Reading tomorrow!

Mornin' all. I'm waiting for my breakfast to arrive.

WOMAN IN WHITE did, indeed, get a few decent reviews. It'll get mine tomorrow, since I'm seeing the show tonight. I'm sure my review will make or break the show. ;)

I know this will excite many of you - today I shall have cake. Oh, yes...I shall have lots of cake, and why? Because tomorrow is my birthday and the office always "surprises" people with cake and cards on their birthdays. As it turns out, there are three of us celebrating our natal day tomorrow, so there shall be LOTS of cake. :) I'll have a full (bellied) report this evening, I'm sure.

TOD:

DVD: The Birds
CD: Home: LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, THE COLOR PURPLE Demo, MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG.
Work: THE COLOR PURPLE Demo.

Good News indeed!!!  I heard this last night on the TV news and actually stood and cheered.  WHEW! What a releif, I did not want to cross a picket line, particularly one so closely associated with dear Jose, yet I certainly didn't want to disappoint the Vixter,   if it hadn't been a Girl Scout related event I probably would have been looking for  a refund before now, but as it stands HOO and RAY!! I recorded "Smallville" and "Everwood" last night, along with "Joey" and "Will and Grace."

I watched "Survivor: Guatemala", comments about which I posted under "SPOILER" alert last night.

I do have something to say about last night's "E.R.":

SPOILER

SPOILER

I'm really PO'd at NBC for its deliberately misleading promos of this episode.  A plane does crash..somewhere in New York.  But, despite the promos asking us to think that one of "their own" would not survive, ALL survived...at least in that episode, although two are still in limbo regarding injuries...John Stamos is in the hospital and one of the females had smoke inhalation and ignored all warnings to slow down and allow the hospital staff to monitor her.  Maybe she'll die next week?  Or Stamos?

The red herring for me was Kristen "I wanna be Kirstie Alley" Johnson's annoying character rushing out of the hospital to "catch a flight." I just knew that her plane would be the one I saw exploding over the city.  But...NO.  She rushes into the E.R. three-quarters of the way through the show to lend a hand after her flight was either missed or cancelled.

I seldom watch "E.R.", save for "event" episodes.  This one was promoted as an "event"...and it simply wasn't one.  An hour wasted when I might have watched "Joey" and "Will and Grace."

Oh, well.  I still have "Smallville" and "Everwood" to look forward to.

In my DVD player:  three DVDs from Netflix and a previously used copy of "War of the Worlds" with C. Thomas Howell.  I got it at Blockbuster with a coupon, so it only cost me $4.95 instead of $12.95!  And since I also just bought (new) the original "War of the Worlds" DVD, I plan on getting the Tom Cruise "WOTW" whenever that is released.  There is also at least a fourth version of the story on DVD that looks like it was made for TV and it's set in the late 1800s...and is the most faithful adaptation of the original H. G. Wells book.

In my CD player at work:  a live recording of Sweeney Todd from the very kind Tomovoz.  After that will be some other stuff that I can't remember (the CDs are at work and I'm not...yet).

In my VCR:  a tape to tape tonight's "Ghost Whisperer" and "Hot Properties."  Does anyone know when "Threshold" is coming back?  I didn't pay attention. :-\

Well, I must now get ready for work.  Laters...to quote Jose. ;D

I got the 2-DVD "State Fair" yesterday.  I was only able to skim through a little of the 1962 version, which I've only seen in P/S on TV.

The glory of this movie is the musical underscore...Alfred Newman's last, contract-fulfilling work for 20th Century-Fox.  He became music director at Fox in 1940 (having guest-conducted/arranged/composed for the studio the previous 5 years at Darryl Zanuck's bidding), and was rather unceremoniously stripped of his music department in the late 1950s.

From having a staff orchestra and offices one day to having to share offices on a sporadic basis, and having to contract orchestra members for specific recording session dates the next.

Of course, when this happened, Zanuck was gone.  Most movie studios had divested themselves of staff orchestras.  Unions had taken over for the musicians.  Everything in Hollywood had changed.

I'm told Newman's last project with the staff orchestra was for pre-recordings on "South Pacific."  After that, he still had the same musicians, but they had to be hired for specific jobs on a limited basis.  He scored "Diary of Anne Frank" and "The Best of Everything" in this manner.  And although contractually committed to score another Fox film, he did some work at Universal for "Flower Drum Song", and he scored "The Pleasure of His Company" and "The Counterfeit Traitor" for Paramount.

All his future work, after completing his Fox contract with "State Fair", was for other studios, notably MGM for "How the West Was Won," Warner Brothers for "Camelot" and Universal for "Airport."

Ken Darby, Newman's associate from 1950 onward, has said the MGM job was the happiest he and Newman had experienced.  I'm sure he meant "since the dissolution of Newman's Fox department," but it speaks volumes about Newman and Darby having been badly treated at Fox in the late 1950s.

(That's just my way of clearing trivia from my brain...no need to be alarmed).

Very interested to hear your thoughts.

A "review" of Nudie Musical that I'd never seen before:

(EXCELLENT!)
FIRST NUDIE MUSICAL (1976) Directed by Bruce Kimmel (Bruce Kimmel, Cindy Williams, Stephen Nathan, Diana Canova)
If your film is going to have to look cheap, use that cheapness effectively. Porn films and exploitation films of the 1970s looked ludicrously cheap with their tacky sets, amateurish acting and poor production values. So what we have here is a tacky, amateurish-looking film about the making of tacky, amateurish-looking film: a 'nudie' musical (porn films of the late 60s and early 70s were called 'nudies' since they were more about showing tits and ass than actual sex). The songs are extremely witty and are presented in an appropriately tacky and hilarious fashion (dancing dildos anyone?). And it is all formatted in the classic movie musical mode, with the protagonists trying to save the studio from turning into a shopping mall. One can look at that plot in retrospect with a deeper appreciation of the film, when one realizes that it was made at an era in which tacky and innocent films were soon to give way to slickness and cynicism, and shopping would soon become the biggest American pastime.

 I have always thought that it was very kind of the local librarians to allow the local homeless to doze quietly in an alcove seat  keeping warm and dry etc.

This past summer my dad , who had been working on his car, ran into some kind "dead end" so he popped up to the library  to take a look at one of the car manuals they keep there.  He was sitting at a little corner desk when one of the librarians came over to him and whispered, " I have an extra sandwich, would you care for it?"
"Uh, no thank you", my puzzled father answered.
He took down the info he wanted and went home where   he told my mother the story about the "weird sandwich offer" and she said, "Have you looked in the mirror?"

Well Dad, being long retired,  hadn't shaved in a couple of  days, he was wearing his oldest cut off jeans with the tears in them and an old work shirt with the pocket torn off, all his  regular "mechanic's outfit" so it was well and permantnetly stained from years of wearing it whenever a dirty job was to be done..

The kind librarian must have thought there was a "new" homeless guy in town.

The inicident made Dad finally heed Mom's advice about paying attention at his appearance when he goes out, and it also made Dad send Mom to the library whenever he needed something!  ;D

DR vixmom - thank you for the story about your dad and the public library.  I'd never make such a snap assumption, but when the same scruffy people are sitting in the same chairs day in and day out, it's a pretty sure bet they're not just here doing research.  We tolerate much more than I think we should in terms of baggage, aberrant behavior, loitering, etc., but the folks who make the big bucks don't seem to be bothered by it.  Of course, they don't have to work in the midst of it to do their jobs.  They have offices.  With doors.  That close.

Even the TV monitors have an analog tuner, but what they don't have is an ATSC (high definition) tuner built in. So you either have to add one of those or use cable or satellite to get HDTV signals.

After JOEY, I went to Tuesday night's SUPERNATURAL for an episode that had elements reminiscent of POLTERGEIST. There was even a medium there (a la Zelda Rubenstein). In fact, at one moment, one of the two leading men referred to her seeing things as a Zelda Rubenstein moment. Good episode with some genuine chills.

The ratings this last Tuesday for the show hit season lows for it, so I'm not sure if that's very healthy for the show. It's renewed for the rest of this season, but no more weeks like this in the ratings or its first season might be its only season.

I forgot who asked, but THRESHOLD will be on Tuesday night at 10 p.m. on CBS.

If CLOSE TO HOME delivers big ratings again this week on Friday as it did last week, it'll stay put there for the rest of the season.

That will mean that CBS has every single night secure with hit shows (and hit reruns on Saturdays). The Tuesday at 10 time slot is really its biggest weakness right now. If it can shore up Wednesdays at 8, then it will have a schedule with no chinks in it.

The VARIETY review of THE WOMAN IN WHITE was mixed-to-negative. Michael Ball got the best notice of the principals. The music was pretty much dismissed and the projections were found to be at odds with the Victorian time period.

I think I'll probably be giving this one a pass if it's still running next summer.

email me jason. . . ;)

Hi Guys,

Sorry to have been E & T.  I spent all of last night in the hospital emergency room and didn’t get home until six o’clock this morning.

I’m alright now but I was in horrible pain all of yesterday.  I was to stubborn to go home from work and go to the doctor.  At about 7:30 PM it got to the unbearable point so I called the “Ask A Nurse” and she wanted me to call 911 right away.

Well, I wasn’t going to that either (stubborn again—I didn’t want the drama of an ambulance coming to the house and all the neighbors staring , etc and I didn’t want to call someone to come get me because I hate to bother people.  I knew I would be there for hours ) so I managed to drive myself to the hospital emergency room.  Where I sat for hours before getting any kind of help.

I won’t bore you with details but I found out this is something that will be happening on a fairly regular basis (I’ve been having these attacks for years so what else is new?) and will just have to deal with it as best I can.   Here, have some drugs.  If it happens again, feel free to come back and see us.  One hundred dollars, please.

I slept most of today away after being awake since 4:30 AM yesterday so for one of the few times in my life I was up for over 24 hours.  Imagine that.   ;)

I’m in some pain right now but at least I have the drugs to take care of it.  They knock me out so I if I take one, I’ll be going back to bed again.

Again, I’m fine.  Situation normal.

Now let me go back and read posts from yesterday and try to get caught back up.   :)

Well, it's the end of an era.

I just received the most disgusting, annoying, and nauseating news - Aron's Records, which I have been going to for close to forty years (first in its original Melrose Ave. location, and then in its current location on Highland) is closing its doors.  Amoeba has finally done them in.  This is so sickening on so many levels - Amoeba simply ripped off the business model of Aron's.  They took a look at the success of that store, and opened their version in San Francisco.  It did so well (why wouldn't it - Aron's was hugely successful), and then they decided to come to LA.  WHERE did they open a store?  One half mile from Aron's.  It was the kiss of death, because Amoeba spent hundreds of thousands of dollars getting the word out.  And the people came.  Idiot teenagers came, and they paid list price for things they could get three or four dollars cheaper ANYWHERE, and considerably cheaper than that at Aron's, which always had the best discount.  Amoeba, within weeks, had put a huge dent in Aron's business - why, is another story.  Why did all those people who'd been shopping at Aron's for years, suddenly jump ship to another store where they'd be paying MORE money?  I'm not talking about the "regulars" like me - I'm talking about these young, disgusting pimple-faced little twits who wouldn't know loyalty if it kicked them in the ass.  Apparently it was worth paying more money to be in the flavor of the week hip place.  Of course, Amoeba will find this out in three or four years, when someone else comes along and does to them what they did to Aron's.

I've watched with some sadness as Aron's, a store that was usually filled to the brim with shoppers, had their customer base dwindle down to nothing.  They were the best store for soundtracks and shows (my pal Brad Bennett was/is their buyer - and no one knows their stuff like Brad), a mecca, and now, as of January (or sooner) they will be gone.

And, unlike Footlight in NY (another mecca, recently closed), there will be no life for Aron's on the Internet.  It's just another nail in the coffin of the way we live today and I am truly depressed by this news.

It's the end of an era.

Sorry to hear about Aron's.  I never visited the store in my one (count it, ONE) visit to LA, but I have friends who shopped there.

One found wonderful music jewels on LP and CD and shared them with me over the years.

I always thought I'd make a beeline for Aron's on my sometime-in-the-future return to LA.  Alas the day.

I am, however, familiar with Amoeba in Berkeley and San Francisco.  But my most favorite special finds were at a similar kind of store called Rasputin's, also in Berkeley (there is also one in San Francisco, but it is in prime real estate and there are no "bargains" to be had...they're only marginally cheaper on used goods than Tower is on new ones).

This day has turned into an avalanche of crisis must-dos.

Have mercy!  I'm still looking at leaving at 5 p.m., but one never knows.

There have been sporadic flurries of crisis-mode angst with gaps of mind-numbing normalcy.

But meetings are underway...oh, yes!  Folks are meeting, and planning, and plotting.

I pray for the fat lady to sing...

Aron's was, I believe, the first store to every buy used LPs and make those the calling card for their customers.  They always had the new stuff, well-discounted, but it was the used LPs that brought hordes of people flocking to the store.  Once they did that, then everyone jumped on the bandwagon, but they were there first.

When Aron's moved to Highland, they began featuring live bands, local LA groups, who could get real exposure for their album.  Of course, Amoeba ripped that off, too, and does the exact same thing in their LA store.

I have a friend who used to find Academy promo CDs of film scores at Aron's...and would buy them for $3-$5 each.  And not only that, but such rarities, USED, like "The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearn" for mere pennies.

Last I saw, a copy of that CD could be had for $249.99.

The clientele in LA was very diverse and had a wealth of CD materials thrown at them...and many found that Aron's was a great way of getting that material into hands that would value it.

Rats!  Damn!  Poopie!

My friend also built a collection of opera recordings, on LP and CD, that would be the envy of most universities with large music departments.

She'd find those enormous boxed sets for $3-$4 each, most never played or barely used.  Then she found the same things on CD.  Many a birthday and Christmas has seen a 4-CD opera set mailed my way....and Aron's was the source.

It's late Saturday morning here DR Ron. Shopping done, birds fed (a few times), dogs fed and now to decide which task to put off next. There are such choices in retirement.

It's been a battle for the independent CD stores to survive but some of them have indeed managed here. I don't think "Borders" have made much of an inroad here - too expensive! Amazon and downloads are still the major issues.  I have still never downloaded music from the NET.

We had a wonderful day of choreography clean-up.  Lots of good work today.  And we took an hour "break" to meet some original Washington Senators players - Mickey Vernon and Frank "??".  They shared many stories with us, and I found myself moved by their "longevity" and continued dedication to the sport.  -Both of their playing careers ended in the late 50's, but they still act as scouts and consultants for Major League Baseball.

Topic of the Day....

Well...

I did receive a package from the Good Cook Book Club yesterday.  I finally used up a bunch of Bonus Points that have been sitting in my account for a while now, so I basically got three books for free (well, I still had to pay S&H).

Tyler Florence - Eat This Book
Alton Brown - I'm Just Here for More Food
Alice Medrich - Bittersweet

I started reading Bittersweet during rehearsal today.  It's all about chocolate - and it also is an award-winning cookbook.  It's a great read so far, and I've already selected which recipes I want to try first.  Should be fun "experimenting"!

I am watching YOUR CHEATIN' HEART - the movie about the "life" of Hank Williams.  I had never seen it.  Hmmmm.....but I knew I was in trouble (to say nothing of George Hamilton as Hank) when the credits rolled and it was a Sam Katzman/Clover production directed by Gene Nelson.

Red Buttons and Arthur O'Connell....oh my.  Well - I suppose it's as good a movie as could be expected.  The music is fine (Hank Williams, Jr sings his daddy's songs).

Watching it because I am (like DR CILLALIZ) probably going to see WALK THE LINE in the next few days.  I like Johnny Cash's music - and I really like Joaquin Phoenix - so my fingers are crossed.

I see that the soundtrack CD has Phoenix and co-star Reese Witherspoon singing the songs.....hmmmm....

Awaiting an HHW report on said film!

DR vixmom - If you had had to cross the picket lines, I would have understood.  You paid good money for those tickets, and I would not have wanted you to end up wasting the money - and the trip into the city - over something you have no control over.  Heck, my parents will be making their annual trip up to see the Holiday Spectacular in a week or so with their friends.  -They take one of those day charter busses up for the day.  -Oh, but that will be after they get back from the Philippines - they've decided to take a sort of last minute trip "just because".  I think they were able to get a good deal on an airfare - they're even expediting the renewal of their passports - which they had just realized had expired last year.

And I daresay I'd do it again if there was anything REMOTELY tempting to me.

I like what Jrand said about RENT:

Probably very appropriate RENT analogy.....sorry I don't get the show.  I may see the movie on DVD, because I have been wrong before, but I don't like it, yet!

It is probably a much better way to phrase it than to say that I hated (sorry SWW) disliked the show.  I didn't get the show, and it annoyed me that I didn't get it.  Here were all these wonderful characters, standing front and center on a Broadway stage, and all I could think of was, "This is crap."  Had I suddenly become an old stoggie traditionalist???

I remember OzDerek saying that "Rent" was a show that may well have worked if they'd thought to have a director. It was the aural assault that ruined it for me.

Sad to hear about Aron's. Everytime I went to LA I always made sure I went there. I am sure if I lived in LA I would have been there once a week. A great store. We don't really have anything like where I am.

Hello fellow Dear Readers.

Danise, sorry you are feeling crappy. I hope you get better soon!
~~~~~~~~~~
BK, I always wondered where twiddling thumbs came from. Now we know.
I emailed DR Kerry a few days ago and have not had a response. He still owes me cake from my birthday in September.
Jason said that he was going to see SOUVENIR on Sunday.  My dear friends, Sharry and Micheal (who BK and Michael Shayne have met) will also be seeing the show on Sunday.  I wonder if Jason will be going backstage to see Judy Kaye after the show?  If so, they will probably meet him.
DR JOSE what's the BEST move in Who's Got the Pain?
It's all good, but most of it is Mambo and Merengue-based.
However, the lifts in "Shoeless Joe" and "Whatever Lola Wants" are breathtaking.
I've heard good things about The Little Prince.  There's actually a CD and DVD out of this new opera by Rachel Portman (she wrote the score for the movie, "Chocolat").
As for Peter Pan - it's just the Cathy Rigby tour/version.  Of course, it is her final tour as Peter, so....
Saw a tour about 10 years ago when it played Montreal. Is it  staged any different to take advantage of MSG?
Well, she revised her version of the show a few years ago.  It was shown on A&E, and then released on DVD.  I've heard that the flying rig as MSG will allow her to fly over the audience.
I'm here...the Phantom of the...wait, that's not what I saw tonight! Tonight was WOMAN IN WHITE, which really wasn't that bad of a show. In fact, it's pretty decent. It's not a score that I'd listen to for casual listening, but then again, neither is DAS REINGOLD, and lots o' people dig that Wagner stuff.
The set, while not involving any chandeliers or helicopters, did just what it needed to do. The only times it ever made me queasy was when the images would go one way and the turntable would spin the other. That was my biggest complaint about it.
Ms. Maria Friedman was wonderful, as was Mr. Michael Ball. And DR Danise, I'm sure had he known you were in pain, he'd have sent his good vibes. So, I'll send them for him. :)
DR MattH: I got the DVD today. THANK YOU SO MUCH! (And I LOVE the bonuses) ;)
Jason - I'm so glad you're 29 now.  When you were 28, I was old enough to be your father.  I feel like I've gotten younger as you've gotten older.
When you're my age, that type of logic will make sense.  :)
This is my first post as a 29-year old. The Greek called me at midnight. He was the first person to officially wish me happy birthday.  :-\
EDIT: I'm not sure if I told the truth or not - The Greek called and I turned around to notice an IM from DR Jose wishing me a happy birthday. I'm not sure which got there first, but it doesn't really matter - it was a lovely gesture from both. :)
I have seen Cathy Rigby's PETER PAN three times.  I thought that this production was the strongest one she has done.  "Ugh a Wug" in this production is a real showstopper.  The new company that is flying Cathy (no longer Fly by Foy) got her to within inches of the balcony at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theater.  Lord only knows where she will end up at MSG.
Is PETER PAN actually at MSG or at the Theater at MSG? IIRC, the Theater at MSG isn't that much more vast than the Gershwin, where Rigby did the show recently.
Title: Re:TWIDDLING MY THUMBS
Oops. my bad, the Theater at MSG holds 5600 to the Gershwin's approx. 2000.  I guess that's a little more vast.  But it sure doesn't feel that way.
VISITING MR. GREEN was enjoyable if not riveting. The actor playing Ross had some irritating mannerisms and whined too much in the part, but I enjoyed the actor playing Mr. Green very much.
We went out for desserts afterwards, and I had what is called a Carmel Ice Cream Dream. I ate the WHOLE thing all by myself, but as I did without my usual ice cream this afternoon, I felt entitled!
Driving to the theater, I put in the Rhino soundtrack to MGM's GIGI. My goodness, compared to the soundtrack album of this movie I've listened to for years on LP, this CD has TWICE as much music. I haven't finished with it yet at all. Just got through "I Remember It Well." Looking forward to enjoying the rest of it each time I get in the car over the next few days.
Back from The Drowsy Chaperone and opening night party - exhausted, but must now have a bite to eat, then write the notes, which won't go up until about 12:30 or thereabouts.
The reason there is no Kritzerland link is because Mr. Mark Bakalor is a very busy boy.  I shall ask him to do one, and perhaps he can get around to it.
