Title: GOBBLE GOBBLE
Post by: bk on November 24, 2005, 12:29:58 AM
Well, you've read the notes, you've gobbled up the notes, the notes have gobbled you in return, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're celebrating Thanksgiving, too, by saying a Thanksgiving Moo.

Good morning, all!  I spent the yesterday seeing a doctor about an exam in 2 weeks, stocking up for the weekend, making a large batch of chicken soup, and cleaning the house.  A year ago at this time, I was still hobbling around in pain after the first of two surgeries and not feeling so hot.  I have so much to be thankful for and one of them is for all of you.  Thank you.

As for the TOD:  my family's Thanksgiving every year I can remember, before my leaving home, was a huge family gathering at my mother's sister Jean's home.  Of the seven children on my mother's side of the family, usually six of them with their spouses and children showed up for the big event in Hamilton, Ohio.  Outside of a wonderful meal, I wasn't crazy about the day:  too many cousins I never wanted to see, and too many jocks watching nothing on television but loathsome football, to my mind the stupidest sport ever.

Between 1980 and 1985, every Wednesday before Thanksgiving, a troup of friends drove in from Ohio for the weekend.  They brought the turkey, which I roasted on thursday morning, and went to the parade while I prepared the basis of the meal.  When they returned, everyone pitched in to help and around 2:00 all the guests I'd invited showed up.  There were usually between 15 and 25 people here for Thanksgiving dinner.  I remember Ethan Mordden playing Broadway music and Ken Mandelbaum and others singing along, and the guests usually came and went between 2 and 9 pm.  It was a lot of fun,  The last year, one of my Ohio friends brought along a drunk who spent the entire four days plastered.  The same friend who invited the alcoholic also screwed me over with a promise to uses his car to help me carry a furniture gift up from the Village.  That was the end.  I miss it.  Some days.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, EVERYONE!  GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Thanksgiving morning greetings!  Our bird went in the oven almost an hour ago.

Let the record show that I was not one of the Ohioans at DR elmore's '80's Thanksgiving dinners (but I'd sure love to know who was  ;))  In 1977, though, my good friend Becky, before we were both married, spent Wednesday-Sunday in Manhattan.  We saw 5 shows, attended the Macy's parade, and ate Thanksgiving dinner at Mamma Leone's.  Now, don't get me wrong - I love doing these big family gatherings at home - but that is one of my favorite holiday memories.

Just a quick hello; I've several days worth of posts to catch up on, and no time to do so.  Drat.  And I think der Brucer has scheduled us for something grandlad-ish tomorrow, my only day off this week.  It figures.

So, let me simply say "Happy Thanksgiving!" to you all.

I'll be at the store most of the day, helping with the customers who have either forgotten an ingredient or two for their feasting, or have to replace something the dog ate, or are there because their wives sent them to simply get them out of the house, or haven't anyplace else to go and need to see a cheery face.  So this may turn out to be a very memorable Thanksgiving!

Thanks for the report on RENT, DR Jose.

It was not my favorite stage musical by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm curious to see what has been done with it for the screen, so I'll be going next week one day. It's playing in the theater right down from my house, but they fellow I went with to HARRY POTTER on Tuesday wants to see RENT (he's never seen the stage version), and I promised I'd go with him, so I can't go thie week.

Sorry, DR Jose. I didn't record LOST, so I can't dub a DVD for you. And it was quite a memorable episode, too. I'm sure it will be rerun over the next couple of months once the show goes into reruns. (Next week's episode is new, and then it's reruns for December and part of January.)

I didn't get around to A CHARLIE BROWN THANKSGIVING yesterday, so that will be the first order of business today while I'm eating my Thanksgiving meal. It's coming on tonight, but I'd rather see the DVD version sans commercials.

Then, I think I will watch SPANGLISH from the DVR.

And since we're still in ratings sweeps, the networks are pretty much providing new programming tonight. CSI is a new episode and so is WITHOUT A TRACE and SMALLVILLE.

I noticed my local NBC station is showing a locally produced special in the JOEY/WILL & GRACE time period, so I'll be getting those shows in the wee small hours of the morning on delay.

"Lost" and "Invasion" were both really good, as DR MattH posted last night.  "Lost" ended in what I consider "cliffhanger mode" last night...left all sorts of questions unanswered and left me almost near the edge of my seat.

"Invasion" is getting very interesting...and I loved the unexpected mystery/twist in the morgue.

Yes, I don't have any special Thanksgiving memory. We seemed to do something different every year. One year with my aunt and uncle. One year with my maternal grandparents, one year at our house.

My last partner and I did go to Las Vegas for Thanksgiving in the mid-1990s, and that was a truly different vacation. Wearing shorts and t-shirts to eat at those huge buffets on the strip on Thanksgiving Day. We went to see FOREVER PLAID since he had never seen it (but I think that was the night after THanksgiving.) I guess that is my most vivid Thanksgiving memory.

Yes, Happy Thanksgiving to all U.S. citizens and observers of same.

I've mentioned before that there is a big condominium complex being built across the side street from my house. It's been under construction for a year. Today I was sure it would be blissfully quiet with everyone taking the holiday off.

This was not to be! Several workers showed up this morning SINGING (in Spanish) and making a fair amount of noise. Wonder if they're cooking a meal inside the building (the power seems to be on over there)?

Happy Thanksgiving all!

Turkey and Pumkin pie are in the oven!  Good smells are starting to fill the house.

I also give thanks for friends both near and far.  For having a job and home.

Once I get the dishes all washed and look at some of the sale ads, I'm going to start burning disks and hope to mail them all out on Saturday.  I didn't get all the "extras" done that I wanted to do but I think the picutres are the main thing.

I really do NOT plan on going out tomorrow but it never hurts to look.   ;)

I did record LOST on my Tivo but I have no way to record it.  Unless there some way to get it to my lap top???  If someone can explain how to do that, I would be more then happy to burn a dvd for you.

The computer is to far away from the TV to run a line.  Unless you can buy a good Loooonnnnggg cord.

My favorite Thanksgivings have been fairly recent ones spent at my nephew John's in-laws...they have a wonderful old house out in the country near Corvallis. The food is delicious and the in-laws, especially Grandma Jane and Grandma June, have become very dear to me.

A lot of Thanksgivings as a child were spent in Portland. I can remember at least one where, when I was 6 or 7,  I was very, very sick. That one stands out in my memory, but not in a good way! But I have good memories of other Thanksgivings with all the family.

Watching the last part of the Macy's Parade - switching back and forth between NBC and CBS.  Too bad that it seems that most of the Broadway sections were in the first hour...

OH!...  Spelling Bee is now on CBS!!!

:)

HA!  It's like a video of the song "Why we like spelling"

*And Todd Buonopane, Don Fogler's standby/understudy is on.  -But I believe the vocal is still Dan Fogler.  Hmm.. -Just like Chicago clips with Marilu Henner (and James Naughton), but with Anne Reinking's voice.  ;)

**Oh, and that very funny understudy "film" they recorded for Seth Rudetsky's show, is apparently up on Broadwayworld.com.

Today I will lounge about and finish the Bollywood movie that I started to watch last night. Then perhaps rake the rest of the leaves in the back yard before they kill all of the grass. Then at around 2 pm I will head up to Aumsville, where my sis and bro-in-law have finally moved into their new house, and we will have our Thanksgiving celebration!

As for most memorable Thanksigiving...

No particular one comes to mind, but I do remember some of those Turkey Days where my parents would go from house to house, friend to friend, relative to relative... Sometimes as many as five houses throughout the day.  Which meant five Meals!  Ugh!

There were a few Thanksgivings when Steve and I were together where would do Thanksgiving lunch at his parent's house in Richmond, and then drive up to Fairfax for Thanksgiving dinner with my family. -And then we would usually repeat the same routine on Christmas Eve and Christmas.

You know what's really cool about watching today's Macy's Thanksgiving Parade is that I've BEEN there!  It's really giving me a kick to see things I saw back in October and on the other trips and to know I walked through the very door they show from time to time in some of the shots of Macy's.

Yes, the news about ALIAS ending in May is all over the internet this morning.

No big surprise as it's been fairly obvious the show was winding down all season, and as the ratings have been very poor on Thursday night at 8 (a terrible time period for the show), the announcement was pretty much expected.

They're claiming the show will go out with a bang, not a whimper. We'll see. As I said before, I'll stay with it to the end of the line.

Yes, I found VERONICA MARS delayed by my local UPN station. It was shown at 2 a.m. That's got to be GREAT for ratings!  :(

They showed a Bobcats (Charlotte's new NBA basketball franchise) game last night instead of VM in rpime time.

Soon I will have to disconnect, because my internet cable runs across a doorway and we like to remove the hazard when we have company.  Richard and Rob and I are so used to it, we hardly know it's there, but we'd hate to have a guest trip over it.

As for Thanksgiving today...  My brother Michael, and his wife, Veronica, wanted to host the meal today.  Originally, they were going to host it over at their house - which is just about 15 minutes away.  But then they decided that would go ahead and do the bulk of the cooking over at their place, and then bring the meal over here to my parents' house.  Just more room.  I believe the feasting will commence around 5:00.  In the meantime, I plan to do nozzing. ;)

And one final word about "Rent" - And I'm still waiting for DR Jason's thoughts, I guess he made it to the zoo today after all..

At the screening I was at last night, there was more applause after the opening "video" of "Seasons of Love" than after the movie itself.

OH!  The CGI-generated "cold breath" started driving me up the wall. It was just a little too obvious - especially when some of the actors didn't look cold otherwise.  *However, at least they put it in, unlike in the Phantom of the Opera movie where they're all standing in the snow with nary a physical sign of a chill in sight!

I'm up, I'm up.

I'm already feeling very festively festive this Thanksgiving Day.

As to Alias, the producers have repeatedly promised "a bang" the last couple of seasons, but the "bang" has been a whimper 80% of the time, and this season has been completely pathetic - with an actress whose ego has pretty much put the nail in the coffin of her own show (oh, I'll direct the show now, oh, I'll be a producer now).  The producers very obviously did not have the usual "bible" for this show beyond season two, really, because they just began flailing around like a beached whale, going this way and that way, and their flailing became predictable - predictable is what kills shows like Alias.  They got cocky, really cocky, thinking the audience would just accept whatever silliness they came up with.  The Arvin Sloane endless back-and-forths were especially idiotic after the tenth time.  Miss Garner's pregnancy should have told the ABC executives everything they needed to know, and they should have done one two-hour wrap up before she was showing - that was the only way they were going out with a bang.  But, no, it was better to switch the show to a bad time slot, let it limp along, and THEN cancel it.  Now, they promise the bang.  They'll wait until Miss Garner has her baby, and is back in shape to be the old Sydney, then they will try to tie up everything -  they'll pay Michael Vartan whatever they have to to do the one last episode, Nadia will return, Irena will return, hell, people long dead from the first season might even return - maybe even the Rambaldi artifact will return - for all the earth-shattering importance of it, it has just disappeared.
Title: Re:GOBBLE GOBBLE

Isn't it funny about "cold breath" - they figured out how to do it back in the twenties and it worked for seventy years.  Now, it's either CGI or they can't remember how to do it all of a sudden?  We don't progress, we just forget the lessons of the past.

Well, if Mimi's not going to stand in a snowfall with a lot of cleavage and no sign of being cold, the film can't be nearly as brilliant as PHANTOM OF THE OPERA.

Memorable Thanksgiving -  There was the year that the Orthodox Jewish relatives were invited for Thanksgiving, but they just said they might stop by.  The reason seemed to be that they feared that the home wasn't kosher enough for them, but they did stop by and it was a lovely time, although they quite noticeably didn't eat anything.   An important Thanksgiving for our family because it started a certain level of closeness within segments of the family that had been a little distanced for no logical reason, and from then on, when these Orthodox relatives were to visit, food has been catered in from outside with all the claer markings of everything being kosher left in plain sight.

There were a couple of "exterior" scenes where one or two of the extras would get featured - inadvertently, I would hope.  I wonder if they were the ones who were set up to keep the public away.  The woman in the background of "I'll Cover You" was particularly "prominent".

This is what the author of THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ had to say about Thanksgiving:
Quote
It's a petty custom, this Thanksgiving, and the hollowest and most insincere of all mockeries which useag has accustomed us to.  The way we do it is to prepare a better dinner than we can afford, and overload our somachs to an alarming degree.  One man out of a hundred and one woman out of fifty goes to church and hears the minister tell how much they have to be thankful for, and a few sound their own hearts and decide that the blessings which they have attained are very meagre, and are owing fully as much to their own unaided exertions as to the grace of God.

That said, and I only had found that comment about a month ago, my favorite Thanksgiving was last year in NYC, with warm temperatures, Alex Paige, Larry Moore, WICKED and PACIFIC OVERTURES. . .

I didn't really see anything in our local ads that make me want to brave the crowds.  I did see some good prices on some memory cards.

If I get the new digital camera, I'll need to get the SD style of card instead of the Flash Cards.  It still floors me that people say that the Flash Cards are so "big".

Well, I'm signing off for a bit.

Watching the last part of the Macy's Parade - switching back and forth between NBC and CBS.  Too bad that it seems that most of the Broadway sections were in the first hour...

AARRGGHH!!  I set one of my VCRs to tape the wrong day!!  Did anyone tape the first hour of the NBC broadcast??  I programmed the CBS broadcast properly, but not the NBC...where all of the good show performances are.  Can anyone help??

Accident at the Macy's Parade.... The m&m's balloon hit a lamp post... and one of the lamps fell off... and hit someone... They just showed the ambulance driving away (on CBS at least).

I wonder if they'll edit it out of the West Coast broadcast.  I did see on CBS that the Barney balloon had a big rip in its left leg which cause a huge hole in the balloon!

I'll probably go out tomorrow, if only to get out of the house.  It's a four-day weekend and the thought of staying home and doing nothing is not so appealing, at all.  I think I'll brave the crowds and go to a movie.  I want to see Harry Potter more than anything else, right now.  We'll see.

I watched the television STATE FAIR pilot last night.   I guess it was supposed to be like The Waltons.  Vera Miles and Tim O'Conner just didn't look like farm folks.  Mitch Vogel was kinda scary looking - and the other two kids were pretty bland, as was the grandson.

Linda Purl was cute as a bug and sang a good "Hey, Good Lookin'" - is she going to sing that in her show?

Anyway, I must now be off.  I have to shower, dress appropriately and go to my sister's to help her set up.  Our parents are coming over at about 4:00.  I'll check in when I'm there, but until then, Happy Eating! ;)

As for the Apple Store...

The newest thing is the Video iPod.  But since you already have an iPod, then maybe upgrading to the new OS would be the next thing in line.

After doing some web investigating, it seems that the sales will be also also available via Apple's website tomorrow.

The feast after the feast. (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/7201005/wo/hy5dDQlH5oRe2lG4Ib8aK3ZM4x1/0.SLID?mco=C8080E0&nclm=TheFeastAfterTheFeast)

I found a site listing what last year's specials were.

Last Year's Sale Items (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=1143844&postcount=6).

No MAJOR deals, but some nice discounts - a couple of dollars here, a couple of dollars there.

-And according to the Apple website, any items bought tomorrow via the site will be shipped for free.  So, I may just log in after midnight - or whenever the sale begins and see what's on special.  I'm still on the fence about getting an iPod, but if the sale is good enough, well, I might be persuaded.

Most of the afternoon was taken by a 90 minute American Masters biography of Rod Serling. This was done in 1995, but somehow I had never seen it. I had to go meet David Wechter at Mel's Diner to pick up the DVD we did the other night.  He and his bro and kids were having lunch, so I had a sandwich, too, something I rarely do on Thanksgiving.  BUTT - Mel's Diner was PACKED.  I've never seen anything like it - at 1:30 people stuffing themselve silly when you know that three hours later they will be eating a HUGE Thanksgiving dinner.

Well, I'm sure if you click on www.apple.com, you'll find out what a video iPod is.  In the meantime...

The latest iPod models - which seem to come out every six months at this point (anyone see the SNL spoof the other night?) - have the capability to play video clips now - as well as storing pics and music.  You can even download iPod-friendly versions of certain TV shows like "Lost" and "Desperate Housewives" from the iTunes store.  Some movies are also in the works - I know you get can "Clue" for your cell phones, now, so...

They come in 30G and 60G models, black or white, and if you order them online, you can get custom laser engraving for free.

I'm always amazed at the number of restaurants that stay open on Thanksgiving AND are packed.  Heck, even McDonald's does pretty good business on Turkey Day.

While walking around Georgetown last night, there were numerous restaurants with signs in their windows proclaiming they would be open today for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.  And with the movie theatres down there, I'm sure those places will get a decent amount of business today.

Happy Turkey Day...erm...Evening!

I did, indeed, hie myself to the Zoo to celebrate the holiday, and what a day it was. I really think this was one of my best Thanksgivings, even without the family and food. It was so relaxing to be there. I practically had the place to myself. With the exception of some of the bigger rainforest animals (gorillas, okapi, etc.), all the animals were out enjoying the coolish weather. It was a little creepy at first to be in the zoo by myself, but after a while I realized that I was free to hang out wherever I wanted without being rushed or pushed and I could take my time with whatever exhibits I wanted to see. It was really great - I hung out at the tiger exhibit for about half an hour just watching them. A few people were frustrated because they weren't doing anything, but I just waited and as soon as the others left, they all got up and started stretching and playing and came right up to the glass so I could get their pictures, like they were waiting to do a show just for me.

I have to say, being 2 inches from a Bengal tiger (you're only separated by a panel of glass) is one of the most incredible feelings in the world. They're massive, beautiful animals and to be so close to them was exhilarating. And, of course, I have pictures...

Lovely to have DR Elmore over, along with Do-Re-Milla and other sundried peoples, plus a neighbor dog, with whom one of our little ones got into a tussle apparently over who had the right to some precious dropped food.  It added some excitement to an afternoon already rife with excitement; Do-Re-Milla and DR Elmore in a room together alone carry enough star wattage, but add also some other stellar persons who know the true meaning of the phrase "I never repeat gossip, so listen carefully the first time" - and you've got a funfest for which I truly gave thanks.

Good Evening!

Phase I of the Simbulan Thanksgiving Feast has just ended - turkey, ham, stuffing, green beans, mashed potatoes (with monterey jack cheese mixed in), sweet potatoes (prepared fresh!, not canned), rolls, gravy, cranberry relish, and assorted beverages for everyone!  My sister-in-law prepared the turkey, and she did quite a good job.  Very good, flavorful and juicy.

Next up, Phase II - a.k.a Dessert.  -We're all just digesting for a few minutes.  On the dessert table - Caramel Pecan Pie, Pumpkin Pie, Pumpkin Bread, Apple-Pear Chardonnay Tarte (from Balducci's) and Breyer's Vanilla Ice Cream.

-And, yes, the diet resumes tomorrow.

My Thanksgiving Dinner was/is scrumptious, although the pork loin roast was not sufficiently thawed to be cooked today (how many days DOES it take to thaw a 3-lb pork loin?????)

Still, I had prepared a small rotisseried pork roast two days ago and that filled the gap.  The sweet potato souffle is incredible, and the cranberry-pear relish delectable.

Believe it or not, I have allowed my brain to rest today.  The TV has been on the "That 70's Show" marathon on F/X.  Mindless humor runs rampant.

I did catch some of the parade this morning.  On NBC I caught a gosh-awful number from "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" with Norbert Leo Butz and an evern more gosh-awful number from "Chitty Chitty Bang-Bang."  There was a Rockettes number that was nifty, though.
And there was a number, which I think was staged at some landmark in central park, from "Wicked."  The ladies playing Glinda and Elphaba performed "For Good" and it was good and touching and a pleasure to witness.

I'd switch to CBS during commercials, and it was on CBS that I saw the Barney balloon bite the dust.  Looked like a glorious, if cold, NYC day!

I had thought I might catch "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" tonight, but I don't quite feel up to snuff.  I am flirting with a head cold and its associated effects on my body.  I am ahead in the fight, but I cannot be too careful.

At the rate they're going this year, the corpse of anyone would liven up W/G a bit.

Just finished watching JOEY.  NBC should change the title to DEAD HORSE because they keep flogging it and nothing works.   When did Thursday become "must-miss"?

Last year when "Joey" first aired.  For me, it was DOA.

There is nothing funny in this show, for me.  The character, Joey, is NOT a leading character...and should not be the only funny character in the show.

I find the cast mostly boring and unattractive.

The night's fate was sealed this season when "Will and Grace" returned for an 8th season, but forgot to tell the writers whose previous-year leavings must be what they're using for story lines this year.  I've seen all this season's episodes and cannot remember laughing more than once....period.  Debra Messing isn't back to form after having her first child and appears to be pregnant again.  Will is not being developed in any positive way, and the story arcs seem to be leading him toward a partnership with Jack...an ill-advised, unfortunate and sad development if I'm reading it corerctly.  That would make Will the single most pathetic and masochistic character in the history of Television...hell, in the history of entertainment, period.

I agree that ending the series with Will and Jack together would be a mistake.

But ending the series is imperative.  I haven't really laughed at it for a long time and it is one of the worst offenders of the A story-B story type of sitcom writing that is so popular today.

I had a great salad and some meatballs and some pound cake today.

Molly and Jason came by and they are getting a divorce.  I guess I am not suprised, but it will be an adjustment for everybody.  They seem to be okay with the decision, and as I say it's not unexpected.

I don't have to work until Saturday, so I think I will watch MOVIES tonight and TOMORROW!  No shopping for me!  I learned my lesson!

DR Ron Pulliam - Almost all the Simbulan clan is currently in Fairfax, VA - well, at least Fairfax County - which is a big county!  I was the only one who was ever Richmond-bound - bound to Richmond.  ???

My brother, Jay, is currently in San Diego.

-And my former(?) sister-in-law and her new husband have just bought a new house.  In the Landsdowne Resort area.  $1.4 Million!  8 bedrooms!  I guess she did "trade up".  :P

I just spent the past half hour entertaining my nieces and nephew with some music.  I plugged in my Kurzweil, and started "demo-ing" some of the bells and whistles.  Then I let them "bang" away for a while on their own.  It was actually fun. And John Michael had way too many requests.  However, instead of naming song titles, he would just hum snippets.  Kind of like Name The Tune.

Oh, my, what a time we've had here in SW Ohio!  Our Thanksgiving gathering was a huge success, except my sister's husband stayed "home" at my mom's with a sore back.  The turkey turned out very well, the side dishes and desserts were great.

We even had a surprise visit from our great nephew, Nathan, and his mom and dad who were on their way to a gathering of a different branch of the family.  They stayed long enough for Nathan's mom, Rev. Amy, to say grace before we ate.

I've also tried to post a photo, but got the message about the upload folder being full.

I don't know why I make video plans because I almost invariably veer away from them.

One thing I did do was watch the DVD of A CHARLIE BROWN THANKSGIVING. Even though it won some Emmys, I've always thought it was one of the lesser efforts and certainly not in the same ballpark with the Christmas, Halloween, All-Stars or YOU'RE IN LOVE, CB, the first four specials. They truly all were something special with kid character voices that have never, ever been equaled.

Then, remembering that FRIENDS always had delightful Thanksgiving episodes, I seletced Season 3 off the shelf and watched the Thanksgiving episode plus two others.

The Season 3 holiday plot involved the guys and girls playing football for the infamous Gellar Cup, a troll doll nailed to apiece of wood on top of a tin can.

Another episode from Season 3 I watched involved Monica reuinting with Richard temporarily and Joey hiding the book THE SHINING in the freezer when it got too scary. This episode also contained the plot of the Phoebe boy friend who wore no underwear and allowed "his mouse out of the house," to quote Gunther's admonition of him. A totally hilarious episode.

After the FRIENDS episodes, I took Woody Allen's SLEEPER off the shelf. I hadn't watched this movie in many years. It still has some funny moments, but Woody's style was still evolving and the movie seems crude compared to later efforts.

CSI's new episode tonight involved two cases, one featuring an overeater found in a dumpster and the other an estranged husband and wife found dead in their home with her throat torn out but the family dog wasn't the culprit. The latter was the more interesting case of the two and we got generous views of George Eads' new mustache and hairstyle.

Hmm...  I just spent a good chunk of time downloading and installing some of the updates for my Kurzweil keyboard....

"Hmm... How come I can't access the sounds on the expansion card... Hmm..."

After a couple of trial and errors, I decided to go ahead check to make sure the expansion card was properly installed.  Well... It's just not installed.

Hmm...

I guess it has been a while since I've had to use my own keyboard for a gig - and, consequently use the expansion sounds.  Well, I guess I will be heading down to Richmond sometime in the next couple of days.  At least I know the box is properly labeled in my storage unit.  Hmm...

Back from a lovelier than lovely Thanksgiving with the Jones's - Richard, Margaret, Ben, Sophie, and Richard's mum Lynn.  We had turkey, biscuits, stuffing, craberries, mashed potatoes, and sweet potatoes, plus pumpkin pie.  I held to one serving of everything.  It was truly yummilicious, and the company was, of course, wonderful.

I'm back from a terrific dinner with Mr Skip Kennon, DRFJL, and some lovely guests.  There was one unfortunate moment involving a bitch fight over food that became so vicious water had to be thrown on the combatants to bring it to a halt.  Other than this social gaffe, the afternoon was quite festive, the food was excellent, and the company exceptional.  And the things you learn!

DR George, I am very confused. Which Macy's did you need? The first hour of CBS or NBC?

I didn't tape any of CBS's broadcast, but I did watch it starting at 10:00 after I woke up.  I was able to tape the entire NBC broadcast.

Well, the current plan is to wake up "early", get a little bit of a workout in, and then do some work here at home before heading in to rehearsal at Noon.  I just finished looking at some more of the sale flyers for tomorrow, and I think I'll just pass on the madness.  For now.  And the more I keep looking at all the specs for an iPod (Shuffle, Nano and Video), the more I realize I just don't need one right now.  Or even really want one right now.  But I'll probably invest in some software, and check the Apple Store site in the morning to see what deals are there.

Again, that's the plan for now... ;)

At our dinner, we had my sister Diane and niece Hilary (it was held at their house), my sister's boyfriend Larry, my parents, and Catherine, a former co-worker of my mom's (my mom retired from being a nurse last year), and Catherine's son Ryan, and Catherine's granddaughter and Ryan's niece (the daughter of Catherine's daughter) Sage.

As for the meal, my sister made a turkey.  There were homemade mashed potatoes and mashed sweet potatoes, jellied cranberry jelly and whole cranberry jelly, my sister's homemade Scarborough Fair stuffing (with parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme), and several other traditional Thanksgiving food items.  Everything was very good and everyone loved it all.  I bought a pecan pie and my mom made a cheesecake, the very first time that she ever made one, but I was too full to have a piece, but there is some left.

After all of the foodstuffs were consumed, my dad, Hilary, Sage, Ryan and I all played Phase 10.  I won!  That was pretty much the end of the evening.  I came home and am now watching "The Apprentice."

And tomorrow, I'm not going shopping, but my sister, niece and I are going to see "Harry Potter."  Actually, they were planning on going and I asked if I could go too.  My niece said that they're leaving at 10:45.  If I wasn't there on time, they would leave without me.  And they would, too!  So, I'll be up before then because I want to see it. :)

Oh, my gosh. I just learned that Keith Andes committed suicide.

I adored him, and was thrilled to be able to interview him for Classic Images. Evidently he was suffering from bladder cancer and a bad back.

He and I used to e-mail back and forth for awhile, but I hadn't heard from him at all recently and he never let on that he was ill.
