Title: THE LIKES OF ME
Post by: bk on December 01, 2005, 12:06:42 AM
Well, you've read the notes, you've become acquainted with the notes, you can quote the notes from here to eternity and hell and back, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - the likes of them are quite busy kicking the ass of a few people who've treated them meanly.

Oddly enough, a favourite romantic film score of mine is the musical version of Goodbye, Mr. Chips with Peter O'Toole and Petulia Clark.  Probably because I saw it with The Lovely Wife in college, long before she was The Lovely Wife but merely The Lovely Girlfriend (and before she became The Lovely Ex-Girlfriend.  But that's a whole 'nother story.  But True Love...or Madness...triumphed in the end and she became The Lovely Light of One's Life and ultimately The Lovely Wife...and all ended happily ever after...so far -- I mean, she hasn't killed me - yet!).  But depsite Chips' often mundane music and silly lyrics, it remains a romantic fav for both of us...and there are some very lovely numbers despite the dubious ones.

Anything Miklos Rozsa does is a romantic film score for me.  Favs are Valse Crepulscalaire, the main theme from Providence, a movie I've never seen.  But the music is gorgeous!  I also love the main theme of The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, based on one of his violin concertos.  Thief of Baghdad and Moonfleet are also wonderful.  All Dr. Rozsa's scores are lush, sweeping, and intensely romantic, as are his concert compositions.  It must be his Hungarian heritage.  A gypsy knows how to make a violin cry!

Good morning, all!  Another busy day between prescription trips, music deliveries, a trip to the accountant, and some office time.  A change in office schedule forced me to cancel a lunch date with my friends at the Cole Porter Trust, so we'll hopefully do it on Monday.

I think the Mario Frangoulis work is finished for the nonce, to prepare everything I've done for the Dec 11 rehearsal, and now I've got a chart for Judy Kaye to work on.  First, however, I've got the Men's Chorus holiday work to finish, and that's going to take most of the weekend and part of next week.

TOD:  I agree with DRCharlesPogue about Rozsa; he's the best, and we're long overdue a complete recording of the THIEF OF BAGDAD score on CD.  One of my favorite scores is his TIME AFTER TIME:  I still remember the elation and relief I felt in 1979 at the end of the film when Mary Steenburgen told Malcolm McDowell as H.G. Wells that he wasn't returning to the past without her.  The movie was romantic and I loved the screenplay, but I believe the score by Rozsa was the romantic undercurrent.

Another vote for GOODBYE, MR CHIPS, score and songs.  Lovely performances.  "You and I" and "Walk Through the World" are both beautiful love songs that also work in the story so well.  It helps that I love to hear Petula Clark sing.

Romantic scores.

Well Max Steiner's music for GONE WITH THE WIND and later MARJORIE MORNINGSTAR,  A SUMMER PLACE, SUSAN SLADE, and YOUNGBLOOD HAWKE were all beautiful.  I didn't add ROME ADVENTURE because the music I like best from it was the song "Al-Di-La" - although Steiner's work was excellent as well.

Raksin's LAURA, of course.

Bernstein's THE CARPETBAGGERS has some nice themes.

But for ROMANCE itself, I will take the scores to THREE COINS IN THE FOUNTAIN and LOVE IS A MANY SPLENDORED THING - with the latter having the edge.

Mornin'...

Wow! It's chilly outside at last!! I noticed the temp as I was walking to the office was 41 degrees. Yesterday's high was 63. We might have snow on Monday. God love New York. :)

I just found out that I will be attending the Gypsy of the Year competition on Monday afternoon courtesy of MTI. No, it's not something they're sending us to just to treat us for our hard work - they buy these tickets every year because they're expected to and then they draw names to see who gets to go. This year a group ranging from upper management to file clerks will be attending. I just got lucky. But I'm happy 'bout it!

I worked out again last night. I don't know what's wrong with me... ;) As a result, the muscles in my buttocks - muscles I didn't even know I had - hurt like the dickens. See? Working out IS a pain in the ass!

I’m posting while I can.  Due to the weather we keep loosing our satellite connection.  Last night Keith covered the satellite dishes to keep the snow off of them, however much of our problem is the over-all weather conditions.

I have a splitting headache, still I’m pleased not to have-so far-caught Keith’s cold I have been fighting for days.

DR Jennifer, my sister finally replied to my message about her sore throat cure:

Mix 1/2 cup of honey with 1/2 cup of vinegar and store in a jar.  Take two tablespoons and gargle (yes you can do this one spoonful at a time) and swallow.  Do this 2-3 times a day till throat feels better.

I finally got to the Leslie Caron vocals on the GIGI soundtrack album. Her vocals are almost as bad as Rosalind Russell's were for GYPSY. She seems to have some idea of melody and pitch, but her voice often goes to strange places as she's attempting to sing.

What makes me astounded is that either of these ladies ever got angry when the decision was made to use voice doubles in place of their own vocal tracks. Did they honestly want to appear before millions of people sounding like that?

I'll second and third every nice thing said about "Goodbye, Mr. Chips" and I have some very joyful news, of sorts.

The "rumor mill" has long (the past year or so) been saying that the original soundtrack would be issued by one of the "limited edition" labels in a 2-CD set.

A coupla weeks back, someone posted a query to a discussion group I participate in as to whether that rumor might ever be realized when a very reliable source, who won't go named but is one who knows and is one of our very own, said that "extra materials" had been discovered during the restoration process and that a release date had been delayed to include those materials in the final release.

I truly don't know when or how much material or the cost...but I can tell you it's a dream come true for me.

I LOVE THIS FILM, warts and all.  It breaks my heart every time I see it.  It is also uplifting and joyful.

It contains one of the screen's most brilliant lead actor performances with O'Toole's Mr. Chippings.  And Petula Clark's appearance in this and "Finian's Rainbow" constitute two of the finest female film musical performances I've ever seen.

"London is London
Can there be any doubt about it?"

Also looking forward to S. Epatha Merkerson on last night's LAW & ORDER. Over her many years on the show, she's only gotten a handful of episodes where she has done more than hand out orders to the detectives. She's always been excellent when given some meaty dramatic scenes, so last night's show should be interesting.

Favorite romantic score is OUT OF AFRICA.

OUT OF AFRICA is one of my favorites, too.  It's one of the few soundtracks I have on myPod.

When I read TOD, the first score that popped into me head was Max Steiner's NOW, VOYAGER.  And now I keep hearing the main theme over and over in my mind.

It also reminds me of Christopher Durang's A HISTORY OF THE AMERICAN FILM, in which the Paul Henreid character lights two cigarettes and hands the one to the Bette Davis character and she responds, "No, thanks.  I don't smoke."  Then the Paul Henried character attempts to nonchalantly smoke both cigarettes throughout the rest of the scene.

I'm thinking it falls under Turner, which would probably make it a Warner Brothers product for home video.

You're probably right about that. It's hard to know sometimes with later MGM films who controls the rights.

Maybe they're planning another boxed set of musicals that will include this.

I know I read somewhere that THREE LITTLE WORDS, THE PIRATE, IT'S ALWAYS FAIR WEATHER, ZIEGFELD FOLLIES, and SUMMER STOCK were being readied for a future musical boxed set.

SPOILERS

SPOILERS

re: LOST and INVASION

I have to say right now that I have seldom been as thrilled with a show as I am with LOST.  In fact, it fills a void that hit the airwaves when BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER ended.

By that, I'm referring to quality story lines, quality performances and interesting plot twists/developments.  Last night's episode was a doozy.  Kate's back story is fascinating.  And the fact that extra footage was found (and there must be more somewhere -- what INCIDENT is the man on film referring to????) concerning the experiment that was going on is riveting.

And where the frell did that horse come from?

And is Walt really on the other end of that computer communication?

As for INVASION, I am so pleased it has transcended what, to me, started out as a ripoff of INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS.  This is its own invention and it, too, is fascinating, fun to watch and thought-provoking.

Who'd a thunk it?

I haven't.  Doesn't seem possible that there would be much of a does of anything in a strip like that, doesn't it?

Something that I bought but also haven't used yet are those Shower Soothers.  They are tablets that are dropped on the shower floor and effervesce some kind of soothing vapor as you cleanse.  I was going to use one the other day but I read on the foil wrapper a warning that the tablet gets hot when it is wet.  I was worried that it might discolor the Rubbermaid mat I have on my shower stall floor, so I need to test one out in the sink first to witness what actually happens when one of these things go off.  Maybe all I need to do is put it in a shallow soap dish.

Welcome home Freddy!

DR RLP - never has CD news been more welcome.  Hello, "Goodbye."

And I have to agree that Clark was warm and wonderful in CHIPS and RAINBOW....  Of course she had done many films as a child & teen, so she wasn't a film novice, but her special qualities were perfect for the roles she played in those movies.  She and O'Toole made a sweet couple.  How is the DVD version of this?  I only have the VHS.

As to the vocals of Caron and Russell....dammit, DR MATTH, how many times does Rosalind have to say it....NO ONE DID ANY OF HER DUBBING for GYPSY...it's ALL her!! ALL!!!  Of course when her book came out and Earl Wilson contacted Lisa Kirk for a comment, all that Lisa would say is:  "Then I guess Jack Warner has been sending me those checks all these years out of the goodness of his heart."  :)

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Here's the full TRUE story of my RUDOLPH experiences.

I *NEVER* watched it as a teenager. As I tried to explain (but did a poor job with) last night, I guess I felt I was too grown up to appreciate what the commercials for it seemed to suggest was a kiddie special.

The only time in my life I had ever seen it apart from last night was three or four years ago when my friend John showed it to me from a commercial videotape as an after holiday dinner treat. I was totally underwhelmed and couldn't understand his enthusiasm for it. (But he's many years my junior and had grown up with the show as many HHWers here obviously did.)

I watched last night strictly to assuage my curiosity about what this show would look like in high definition. My curiosity now sated, I see no need to ever watch it again.

I meant to say that I also love "Happy Harvest." For years, I tried to get the soundtrack to SUMMER STOCK primarily to get this number, and it was LONG out of print. I finally found the song on a Judy compilation album on the Metro label for $1. I screamed out loud in the record store when I ran across this LP.

Many years later, I got the 10" LP soundtrack for SUMMER STOCK, and it was later reissued on an MGM LP series of their famous musicals paired with other works.

Oh, yes.

It's so hard to keep the issues all straight.  I know there was a 10-inch issue and a 45 rpm issue.  There MAY have been a 78 rpm issue.

Then, I think it was paired with another title in the early 50s...one of those MGM LPs on which cover was reproduced the 10-inch cover art for both titles.  It didn't make the late 1950s reissue (the double-feature series), but it was definitely in that series you found it on, plus it was one of the MGM Select titles on Polydor/MGM in the UK.

DR Jennifer, I understand the VERONICA MARS alternate ending will be on-line for a week. Since I have a dial-up connection, I doubt I'll be able to watch it unless I download the thing during the night and watch it the next day. I'll see if I'm interested after I watch the actual show this afternoon.

I have dial-up at home and I've watched videos before and they usually play very easily.

I almost want to watch it now before seeing the show!  I am so anxious to watch it.

I just went to aol.com/veronica mars, and it lets you watch the original ending and the alternate ending. It says it is 9 minutes.

But don't go there till you watch the show. They give some info, which I started reading, then stopped when i realized it was a spoiler.

Those 1950s double soundtrack MGM sets were the hardest for me to find. For years they were listed in the Schwann catalog but you'd try to order them, and you'd get out of print notcies all the time. I finally did find a few of them before MGM started their 1970s reissues.

Jennifer what antibiotics are you taking?  Taking them when they aren’t necessary only builds up a resistance, or worse an allergy, to them.  The pain you describe sounds like the flu to me.

I'm not sure what exactly they are. I'll have to check. I don't think it's the flu, in fact that wasn't even an option mentioned by the doctor.

I have not taken any antibiotics in quite some time.  And I do think the doc gave it quite a bit of thought before she decided to give them to me.

Btw, I spoke to my 10 week old niece today. My sis put the phone to her, and she babbled to me and I told her i missed her. :)

I have a couple of the MGM two LP sets...some of them had three movies, I think.  I have SEVEN BRIDES, BANDWAGON, and another, forget which.  Oh, EASTER PARADE...but forget which other movies are with them and which ones are together!

My SUMMER STOCK is the single disk version with LOVELY TO LOOK AT (I think), with some nice artwork on a white background.....  And I got it for HAPPY HARVEST and GET HAPPY!  LOL....

Of course one of my favorite Judy stories is about the the days and days she took to get the "Happy Harvest" number right....one afternoon finally saying:  "What the hell am I doing sitting on a tractor.  Someone get my husband to take me home!"

Has Jennifer gotten up yet?  Has anyone seen her lurking?

I'm wondering how she's feeling today.

It's no fun being sick, and I'm pretty sure she was quite ill yesterday.

Yep quite ill.  That was no fun.  The memory of sitting in the doctor's waiting room with a fever and chills shaking is not one I care to remember.

I went to the hospital for my blood test.  It was so quick. Only took 15 minutes. Apparently though I have very few veins and they don't have much blood in them.

I am feeling better than yesterday. Although my throat hurts when i swallow.  I'm not sure how long the antibiotics are supposed to take to start working.  But thankfully no more fever, bone aches or chills.

Although I woke up starving at 4am. Yesterday all i had was 2 Cup-A-Soups. So i had some pea soup!

Thanks everyone for asking. I appreciate it.

Jennifer I wanted to modify my post before I lost my connection again.  Oh well.  Was the doctor referring to your throat pain and suspect Strep, therefore the antibiotics?

I don't think so since my first strep test was negative. There was only a 10% chance the second test would come back positive. So i'm pretty sure she ruled that out.

When I asked her what she would do if it wasn't strep she said she had a backup plan. I'm guessing the antibiotics were the back up plan.

Does anyone know how severe the sore throat is for strep vs the flu vs throat infection?  This is the sorest my throat has ever been.

Darn, I lost my connection again.

Strep really, really hurts and continues to do so for a long time if it isn't treated.  Severe sore throats can also signal something else, or not.  I'm very prone to them.   In fact I have one building minute by minute, yet mild by my standards.

The question is a back up plan for what?

Does anyone know how severe the sore throat is for strep vs the flu vs throat infection?  This is the sorest my throat has ever been.

I've had strep three or four  times in my 57 years.  It's never pretty.

The last time was about 6 years ago the weekend before Thanksgiving.  I knew I was sick, and my throat hurt severely, but it came over me on a Saturday.  My doctor's office was closed, and I didn't think about going to an emergency room.

I was never sicker than I was that Sunday.  I wanted to either die or be instantly better...but I wasn't optimistic about getting better.

My throat was better by Monday, but I wasn't better overall.  I went to my doctor, told him what had been going on and what I had done, and he could see I was more visibly ill than someone with just a cold.

After X-rays, he discovered I had developed a mild pneumonia.  I was given some antibiotics and told to go home, get rest and take the pills until they were gone.

I didn't really feel "good" until the following Friday.

It's ALWAYS better to be safe and get treatment.

I am glad you are feeling better today Jennifer.  Just take it easy .  I had a terrible sore thorat the first week of November and I found hot tea (as hot as you can stand it)  with honey ( I don't think it matters what kind) and lemon helped it feel better.  I also had lots of hot chicken soup with egg noodles and hot tomato soup (but not creamed.. I stayed away from dairy ) all seemed to help.

I will try this, although I wonder if it matters what type of honey you use. I don't have the clear kind. I have the thick one that I use for baking.

Jen, I would think that as long as it's not some kind of exotic honey it should be okay as long as it dissolves in water (or vinegar.)

Well its really the honey and the lemon that seem to be the overall soothing agents abd they don't really  'go' in coffee

You could probably just use hot lemon juice mixed with honey and leave the tea out of it ... its basically like the honey & vinegar drink only somewhat more bearable with lemon instead of vinegar

Getting back to the actual thawed pork loin....

I cut it in half, seasoned it generously with Cavender's Greek Seasoning, and then put it in my crockpot and cooked it five hours on high.

I used a meat thermometer to determine doneness, of course, but the crockpot, on high, cooks pork quite thoroughly.

Oh, I might have emptied a nearly empty bottle of peanut sauce in the pot first, and I may have supplemented the volume with a bit of A-1 steak sauce, and it's possible I added some chopped onions....but I swear that's all I did.

Well, come to think of it, I MIGHT have added a cup of water at the one-hour mark.

At any rate, the leavings were yummilicious and made QUITE the "au jus" for the loin.

I blame their parents.  They are wrapped up in themselves.

Whenever anyone DARES to use a cellphone in an elevator, I start a conversation with other passengers or I sing.

I encountered a lady   woman in the grocery store last night berating someone over her cell phone because he was stupid enough to lose his wallet.  She began yelling at him.  Another customer walked by and gave me a look, and I said, loudly, "Yes, it's the CURSE of cell phones...any cretin can use one."

Click on Launch the Mini-Site Now (or something similar, I don't remember the exact wording), and if Film No. 94 doesn't load and play, click on it (it's a thumbnail of Anthony sideways) and you'll see a 15 second "film" (VW's words) about a safety feature of the new car. You need Flash on your computer to watch it but if you can open those animated greeting cards you probably already have flash installed. You don't need headphones because there is no sound. I wouldn't recommend trying it if all you have is dial up. It takes at least 15 minutes to load. Check out some of the other clips also. There are not yet 120 15 second spots loaded but there are many, many pieces and lots of them are funny.

Jennifer are you using the BROWN vinegar people piut on their fries in your gargling mix? I don't think that's what JRand was recommending.  It's not usual for Americans to  use brown vinegar. I suspect he was talking about white vinegar.  Correct me if I'm wrong Jack...

No i'm not using brown vinegar. In fact I don't even know what that is.  People here put the white vinegar on their fries.

Oh and the doctor's office just called. They called in for my results.  Mono test not back. But my white blood cell count was high because of the infection. Not sure what that means, but I have to go back to the doc tomorrow.  It seems she is really on top of this!

Britney Nixes 'Charity' Work

Spears not Broadway bound; Plus, Nicole and Keith's family togetherness, the latest on Nick and Jessica, Xtina's moniker musings and more ...

Britney Spears apparently isn't ready to trade poopie diapers and midnight feedings for the bright lights of Broadway. The Insider reports the semi-retired pop starlet, who gave birth to Sean Preston in September, has taken a pass on a "very lucrative offer" to headline "Sweet Charity."

The Britster, 23, would have replaced Christina Applegate as the titular lovelorn dancer, with her employment-challenged hubby Kevin Federline reportedly in line for a hoofer role.

"Britney said she couldn't do it because of 'family issues,'" a mole tells the Insider.

Seems they shelled out big bucks for a private jet and deluxe accommodations for the Federlines, who took in the show during a mid-November trip to New York.

"The producers didn't mind," says the snitch. "They thought they'd make that money back right away once she said yes."

But Britney ultimately turned her back on the Great White Way "because she didn't want to uproot her family to New York and make such a long commitment," explains a Spears confidante. "Of course, she seriously considered it, but she's a new mom and Kevin has two other kids who are also on the West Coast."

You'll recall that it was just about a year ago that Mrs. Federline fired off a salvo to working mothers everywhere by declaring, "To be a really good mom, I feel your child needs to be your full-time job. I want to raise my kids and share all of those precious moments with them and not rely on nannies."

CSI: NY had two different cases: one involving murder at the roller derby (I didn't know they still had this!) and one with a an unpublished author being murdered on the eve of having his first manuscript published.

It's a studio portrait...posed.  It is certainly a version of the finale dress she wore  (see artwork beloew) but I think the color in the portrait is a bit overdone just as it's a tad underdone below.  The dress below also looks fuller, but it's undeniably the same cut and fabric.

TOD:  One of my favorite scores is his TIME AFTER TIME:  I still remember the elation and relief I felt in 1979 at the end of the film when Mary Steenburgen told Malcolm McDowell as H.G. Wells that he wasn't returning to the past without her.  The movie was romantic and I loved the screenplay, but I believe the score by Rozsa was the romantic undercurrent.
I thought TCB and I were the only ones out there who love this movie. All shows to Go don't it. (I don't usually care for Steenbergen but McDowell's performace is wonderful).

I love the score from "Limelight". I saw the film in my late teens and still love it.  Another vote for "Laura" too.

My favorite moment in the film...both dramatically and musically -- is when they're in the redwood forest and "Herbert" says, "Lost is what I am."

We needed a new stereo system so he decides the thing to get is a CD jukebox (Craig is very excited and has already made his claim to be next in line for it ;D).  It should have arrived a couple a weeks ago since it was just a short distance away in California.  After multiple calls Keith found it was shipped to Florida instead of to us.  Today it finally it arrived.

Keith told them to transfer it to a smaller truck and not to bring it in the large moving van.  Did they listen-NO!  Now we have a large moving truck stuck in our driveway.  It is pouring out there, Keith is sick and a snowstorm is expected tonight.

spoiler - - - -

I LOATHED, despised, and abhored the alternate ending: sensationalistic, melodramatic, absurd, and contrived in the absolute worst sense of the word. The aired ending was much more subtle and open to several interpretations.

Deb and Jane, glad you enjoyed Anthony's video. By sound I meant dialogue. You can hear the sound of footsteps in the hall and I think there is an "oof" kind of thing when Anthony bumps into the other man, otherwise the script was minimal.

I think Anthony would like to still be doing the British Music Hall show. It's nice to know that Vixter enjoys theatre. I'll tell Anthony.

We had a wonderful (and quiet) Thanksgiving by the way. It was the four of us, Anthony, his parents and me. We had ham this year instead of turkey and when we came back to the city we got to bring some leftover with us. We had ham and eggs for dinner last night. Very good!

We saw Harry Potter for a bargin matinee price of $6.50. We also watched Billy Elliot, Isn't She Great and Scrooge.

TOD:  Although the entire score is not romantic...indeed, it is not, as it is made up of marches and polkas and light waltzes such as ship's orchestra might play...Ernest Gold's transcendent "'Ship of Fools' Love Theme" is one of the most heartachingly poignant pieces of music ever to be attached to celluloid images.

This is the music that played when Oskar Werner and Simone Signoret had their romanti-tragic scenes together.

Another score with tons of heartbreakingly beautiful romantic music -- but from a film that is anything but romantic although the heroine does her damnedest, time after time, to seduce the hero -- is Alfred Newman's exquisite music to "The Razor's Edge"...primarily the music that accompanies the scenes between Larry and Isabelle.

Happy day! Freddy the wandering cat returned to his home at 12:25 am...or at least that is when I woke up to him meowing outside!

He had no explanation for his disappearance and headed straight for his food bowl.

He seemed not at all pleased to see Hildy...but I am sure she had nothing to do with it...I think  ::)

So thank you all for the vibes! They really are quite effective!!!

WONDERFUL NEWS!!!!! I certainly hope you told her how worried you were. That means a lot to a cat.

Actually I heard on NPR yesterday that the Vatican has announced that they will no longer teach that unbapitized babies and people born before the time of Christ will go to "Limbo" a place that is supposedly neither heaven nor Hell.  Being raised Lutheran I never held to any such concept, nor that of "Purgatory", another Catholic teaching to which the Lutherans do not ascribe

LOL. I was raised Methodist. We don't have purgatory or limbo either. It's either Heaven or straight to Hell, do not pass "Go" do not collect $200

I've had strep three or four  times in my 57 years.  It's never pretty....

The last time that I had strep was about 12-13 years ago or so.  I had gotten it (and I won't say how ;)) and was given antibiotics for 10 days.  It came back two days after I stopped taking the meds.  I was given two weeks of antibiotics, but again, it came right back.  Then they gave me a month's worth of meds.  It finally stayed away.  They told me that since I got strep three times within six months, they could take out my tonsils.  So they did.  I've been fine ever since.

But, I was real lucky with my recovery.  I'd been told horror stories about adults who get their tonsils out.  A former co-worker said that he couldn't eat or drink anything for two days!  I was at the hospital (in Tacoma) on a Tuesday morning at about 9:30, in the operating room at 11:45 and I woke up at about 1:00 p.m. and home by 3:00.  Easy as pie.  I was given pain killers, but I didn't need as much as they gave me...at first.  The only real problem was on that Friday I felt better than I actually was.  My sister, niece and I went out for dinner and I made the horrible mistake of ordering Nachos! :o SCRAPE!!!!!!!  Anyway, it really wasn't too bad, but that was when I really definitely the pain killers that I hadn't used earlier in the week.

Speaking of cold meds, has anyone tried that new TheraFlu "strip"?  The one that you just peel out of a plastic pack and put on your tongue to dissolve?

I have tried it, and it seemed to work as well as any other over the counter medication. However, I think if I am going to use Thera-Flu, I want the warmth of sipping the hot liquid.

Strange day today.  I had a weird run-in with the new neighbor above me this morning.  She's a youngt bimbo who got on the elevator talking into her cellphone.  To whomever she was speaking she was talking about being at the TODAY show since she was representing Tim Russert.  One of her classic comments between the first and third floors:  "Katies' breasts are not to be discussed."
I'm trying to imagine the on-air conversation.

"Katie, are you feeling OK today?  You're breasts seem to be sagging a little.  Here, let me help pump them back up."

It's the gentlemanly thing to do, after all.

Der Brucer has found the perfect Christmas gift to give the grandlads: The Dinosaur Musical! (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/96518.html)

Since it's written by the same guys who wrote A Year With Frog and Toad, it should have some of the same appeal.

He's ordered the tix for ourselves, the lads, and their parents, for early January.

Convincing one of the parents that this was a good thing took a little doing.  Daddy is terrified by big cities, and would much rather take the lads with himself on a safer activity: hunting.

But it's all set now.  We'll be six of us travelling to the land of cheesesteaks, the Liberty Bell, and Mummers on New Years.

The only thing that I'm worried about is how Mommy and Daddy will behave that day.  What if they decide it's time to fight... again.  What if Mommy decides she has to be in total control of everything... again.  (Freaky.)  What if Daddy decides that any restaurant more complicated than McDonald's is, well, too complicated... again.

Oh, bother.

I think I mentioned posting a link for Anthony's Volkswagen spot. It's a the Volkswagen Web site. Click on this link and you're taken to a site with a picture of a Passat.

[Anthony's Volkswagen Spot] (http://www.vw.com/passat/120features.html?feature=94)

Ben this is so cute! Tell Anthony congrats.

Speaking of THE APPRENTICE, after this season is up, the Trump version of the show will disappear until after the Olympics. It is also going to be taken off of Thursday night when it returns.

In January, MY NAME IS EARL/THE OFFICE are moving to Thursday at 9. JOEY is going on hiatus until March (probably to resurface on Tuesday nights), and WILL & GRACE slides into the Thursday at 8 time slot. A new comedy (FOUR KINGS) is being added at 8:30. SCRUBS will be on Tuesdays at 9 starting in January beginning with back to back episodes until the Olympics and then after they're finished, JOEY will come on at 9:30.

Also Jennifer Garner just gave birth to a little girl.

Next Wednesday at 10 on ABC.

Since I watch CSI on Thursdays at 9, I'll still be recording them, but it doesn't free up a troubled Thursday spot for me because I love SCRUBS, too. I will still have three favored shows coming on at 9: SCRUBS, HOUSE, and SUPERNATURAL.

However, with the cancellations of NIGHT STALKER and REUNION, I will have fewer shows on Thursday at 9 to worry about.

LOL....I don't have Tivo or DVR and my broadcast stations are on cable through my VCR - so I can only record something I am watching...which kind of defeats the purpose, but I am still in the 20th Century, recording wise.  8)

I watched the repeat of CSI tonight which was this season's premiere. Even though it aired back in September, I didn't remember the solutions for any of the cases, so it was almost like a new episode.

I am the same way with Perry Mason.  ;D

Snowing here.  A very wet heavy snow, but it is not staying on the ground.  May be different by morning....but right now it is okay!

ABC says it's to assure that ALIAS gets the biggest possible audience before it goes on hiatus (due to Garner's maternity leave).

At this point, though, they couldn't harm it any more than it's already harmed. The move to Thursday night at 8 was a final definite nail in its coffin.

TPUNK - I didn't mix the names up did I?  Was it Killbot who was at the door?  I didn't go back to check when I wrote my post (way) earlier today.

Then, I watched a movie I recorded this afternoon - NANCY DREW, DETECTIVE. I have never seen any of the four films Bonita Granville made as Nancy Drew, and I was astonished that this one was based on my favorite Nancy Drew book - PASSWORD TO LARKSPUR LANE.

I didn't record any of the others since I wasn't sure I'd like them, but now that it was OK, I'll record the other three the next time they pop up on TCM.

I have to say, however, that the Nancy Drew film definitely shows the ravages of time. There was a section late in the film where the emulsion had peeled off the actual film stock and was just white light showing in sections of each frame. Beyond repair, I suspect. I will see if the other three are in as bad a shape as this one.

Right now, the DVR is picking up DEATH AND THE MAIDEN from the IFC. I've never seen this film and am looking forward to it at some point over the weekend.

DR MATTH - I have seen them a few times and enjoyed them - I liked the books as well.  But as you say, they are very said and worn looking.  John Litel looks so YOUNG AND THIN playing her father.

Interesting B-films series.

Bedtime for ME!!

I also started another movie from the to-watch shelf that I've never seen before - ALIEN 3. It got horrific reviews, but it's directed by David Fincher whose work I liked in SE7EN, so let me see what it is that folks objected to so much.

I have to say, the first 15 minutes were pretty intense, and I was already getting a creepy feeling about one of the aliens popping up out of the remnants of that ship.

They're short, so watching them is similar to reading one of the NANCY DREW books -  a quick read!

Yup, it was Killbot who was at the door, out the window, onto the street, through the front door of the building and to the apartment door.

NANCY DREW, REPORTER is available on DVD for cheap...and it is a fun movie. I taped the other two today and hope to have a chance to watch them this weekend.

Well, we three are headed off to bed!

I shall catch up tomorrow - I hope.

Hate is such a strong word.  Although I don't think that Trump should have...done what he did, he's Trump and it's his show and his job interview.  He can do whatever he wants.  But did anyone notice that when this season started, they had 18 contestants and advertized it as an "18 week job interview."  Now, they've had one episode when FOUR people were fired at once and ... tonight ... and Donald's been saying "13 week job interview."  I've also noticed that they never show him say it, it's always been a voice-over. ;)

Tonight after work, my niece, my sister and I braved the light snow of Western Washington and went to Tacoma's Borders Books and Music.  My niece wanted to get the movie soundtrack to "Rent" but specifically, the one with Mimi on the cover.  She called every place here in Olympia and no one had it.  Borders did, so we went there.  I bought "Sondheim Sings, Volume II | 1946-60" and the new soundtrack to "The Producers."  The copies of "The Producers" that are sold at Borders have an exclusive extra bonus track (I wonder where they got that idea??), "In Old Bavaria."  This is in addition to the regular bonus track, "The King of Broadway," available on copies sold everywhere.  The track is only 1' 05", so I say, what's the big deal?  I'll listen to it tomorrow, since tomorrow's the day of media check. ;D

On our way back home, it started snowing a lot more, but driving was still easy.
