Oh, honey...you don't want to see this in a Speedo. Hell, I couldn't even stand to see this in a Speedo!!
I'll do what I can about the Gypsy of the Year pics now that I've figured out how to take pictures without a flash... ;)
Favorite romantic score is OUT OF AFRICA.
Does MGM-UA/Sony own the DVD rights to the O'Toole/Clark MR. CHIPS or does Warner Bros?
Dan (theMan) how are you feeling?
I'm thinking it falls under Turner, which would probably make it a Warner Brothers product for home video.
Speaking of cold meds, has anyone tried that new TheraFlu "strip"? The one that you just peel out of a plastic pack and put on your tongue to dissolve?
And I have to agree that Clark was warm and wonderful in CHIPS and RAINBOW.... Of course she had done many films as a child & teen, so she wasn't a film novice, but her special qualities were perfect for the roles she played in those movies. She and O'Toole made a sweet couple. How is the DVD version of this? I only have the VHS.
Last night, DR MattH wrote:
"Maybe I was too old to appreciate RUDOLPH when it first aired. I was already 14 or 15, so I felt too grown up for it, I guess."
And now? You've watched it "again" and...what?...you thought you might have underestimated it 40-something years ago????
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D
I don't believe you'll never watch it again. I think you'll watch it often...and you'll love it. That's what I think.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
Re: "Summer Stock" -- this is one of my favorite JG musicals. Her opening number called "Happy Harvest" ??) is sheer delight!
That's her second song. The opening number is Judy in a shower singing "If You Feel Like Singing Sing."
Many years later, I got the 10" LP soundtrack for SUMMER STOCK, and it was later reissued on an MGM LP series of their famous musicals paired with other works.
That's a good one, too.
It has been quite a few years since I last saw it and it's HIGH TIME this film saw the light of day on DVD.
And while they are at it, they can issue "Words and Music," "Till the Clouds Roll By" and "Best Foot Forward."
And they can do a boxed set on the Andy Hardy series. And a boxed set on the Maisie series. And a boxed Mickey-Judy set, too.
Damn! They are SLOW! I'm not getting any younger.
I finally found the song on a Judy compilation album on the Metro label for $1. I screamed out loud in the record store when I ran across this LP.
Did you get that British reissue...the one that paired "If You Feel Like Singing Sing" (the UK title of "Summer Stock") with another musical?
That was YOU???!!!!
DR Jennifer, my sister finally replied to my message about her sore throat cure:
Mix 1/2 cup of honey with 1/2 cup of vinegar and store in a jar. Take two tablespoons and gargle (yes you can do this one spoonful at a time) and swallow. Do this 2-3 times a day till throat feels better.
She swears by it. I've never tried it myself, though.
No, it was on THOSE CLASSIC MGM MUSICALS combined with EVERYTHING I HAVE IS YOURS and I LOVE MELVIN.
DR Jennifer, I understand the VERONICA MARS alternate ending will be on-line for a week. Since I have a dial-up connection, I doubt I'll be able to watch it unless I download the thing during the night and watch it the next day. I'll see if I'm interested after I watch the actual show this afternoon.
Oh, yes.
It's so hard to keep the issues all straight. I know there was a 10-inch issue and a 45 rpm issue. There MAY have been a 78 rpm issue.
Then, I think it was paired with another title in the early 50s...one of those MGM LPs on which cover was reproduced the 10-inch cover art for both titles. It didn't make the late 1950s reissue (the double-feature series), but it was definitely in that series you found it on, plus it was one of the MGM Select titles on Polydor/MGM in the UK.
I have dial-up at home and I've watched videos before and they usually play very easily.
I almost want to watch it now before seeing the show! I am so anxious to watch it.
I just went to aol.com/veronica mars, and it lets you watch the original ending and the alternate ending. It says it is 9 minutes.
But don't go there till you watch the show. They give some info, which I started reading, then stopped when i realized it was a spoiler.
Jennifer what antibiotics are you taking? Taking them when they aren’t necessary only builds up a resistance, or worse an allergy, to them. The pain you describe sounds like the flu to me.
Oh, yes.

Has Jennifer gotten up yet? Has anyone seen her lurking?
I'm wondering how she's feeling today.
It's no fun being sick, and I'm pretty sure she was quite ill yesterday.
Happy day! Freddy the wandering cat returned to his home at 12:25 am...or at least that is when I woke up to him meowing outside!
He had no explanation for his disappearance and headed straight for his food bowl.
He seemed not at all pleased to see Hildy...but I am sure she had nothing to do with it...I think ::)
So thank you all for the vibes! They really are quite effective!!!
Jennifer I wanted to modify my post before I lost my connection again. Oh well. Was the doctor referring to your throat pain and suspect Strep, therefore the antibiotics?
Does anyone know how severe the sore throat is for strep vs the flu vs throat infection? This is the sorest my throat has ever been.
I will try this, although I wonder if it matters what type of honey you use. I don't have the clear kind. I have the thick one that I use for baking.
My girlfriend just called me about this, she is this girl's English teacher

talk about spoiling your kids!
DR Dan, are you sure about the swallowing part of the remedy?
The honey did dissolve. And the gargling went fine. But the swallowing was bad. It tastes quite vile!
DR RLP did your pork loin EVER defrost?
Yeah, well, that's why I've never tried it ;D.
But my sister swears by it!
Harumph! Obviously, new money...
Will it still work if i don't swallow the stuff?
I also wonder if it would only work on a mild sore throat.
Is tea better than coffee? I really don't like tea. I've been having mocha coffee.
I will be talking to her tonight and I'll find out for sure. I do recall her saying that it was an interesting taste sensation.
Someone hasn't "Caught Up"!! :D
Yes. I cooked it last Friday...in my crockpot! It was sensational.
which made me think of you and your rock hard loin ; :D
Interesting?
:)
Ha ha. Nope, it was VILE. Pretty bad. Although you wouldn't think that vinegar and honey would be such a bad combo. I do love vinegar on my fries. :)
I wonder what hot lemon and honey would taste like. Okay I will try it. But who knows. It might go with coffee.
Nope I didn't catch up you caught me!! Still have Friday and Saturday to read...
I was just thinking about what to make for dinner and thought some pork loin might be nice for a change of pace
which made me think of you and your rock hard loin ; :D
Jennifer are you using the BROWN vinegar people piut on their fries in your gargling mix? I don't think that's what JRand was recommending. It's not usual for Americans to use brown vinegar. I suspect he was talking about white vinegar. Correct me if I'm wrong Jack...
.
Veruca Salt.
Ummmm....gee, Mrs. Robinson....I don't know what you're getting at....
...but...ummm....
DR Vixmom: Yes, I will be flying back to Kentucky on Dec. 22 - three weeks from today!
Strange day today. I had a weird run-in with the new neighbor above me this morning. She's a youngt bimbo who got on the elevator talking into her cellphone. To whomever she was speaking she was talking about being at the TODAY show since she was representing Tim Russert. One of her classic comments between the first and third floors: "Katies' breasts are not to be discussed."
A week ago I sat on the bus next to a fat woman who insisted on letting all of us passengers hear her private business as she loudly talked into a cellphone. What drives these rude assholes?

Jason, just wanted to let you know that I'll be at the theatre this evening to watch Miss Chita. Since it's a pick up ticket I don't know where I will be sitting but we will probably be close enough to chat with each other.
I have been errant and truant for many days now. I just got off the exercise bike (and I took a shower) after a morning of shopping and lunch. Now I'm visiting you fine folk.
I think I mentioned posting a link for Anthony's Volkswagen spot. It's a the Volkswagen Web site. Click on this link and you're taken to a site with a picture of a Passat. Click on Launch the Mini-Site Now (or something similar, I don't remember the exact wording), and if Film No. 94 doesn't load and play, click on it (it's a thumbnail of Anthony sideways) and you'll see a 15 second "film" (VW's words) about a safety feature of the new car. You need Flash on your computer to watch it but if you can open those animated greeting cards you probably already have flash installed. You don't need headphones because there is no sound. I wouldn't recommend trying it if all you have is dial up. It takes at least 15 minutes to load. Check out some of the other clips also. There are not yet 120 15 second spots loaded but there are many, many pieces and lots of them are funny.

DR Jane, a backup plan if the strep test came back negative.
I didn't recommend any cure or poltice.....don't drag ME into this thing. The whole mishagoss has just been TOO much for me.Didn't you want her to stick a candle in her ear and say the Preamble to the US Bill of Rights backwards?
Let's talk about Katie's breasts.
DRMBARNUM you don't suppose Hildy and Freddy had a spat do you?
Britney Nixes 'Charity' Work[/size]
Spears not Broadway bound; Plus, Nicole and Keith's family togetherness, the latest on Nick and Jessica, Xtina's moniker musings and more ...
Britney Spears apparently isn't ready to trade poopie diapers and midnight feedings for the bright lights of Broadway. The Insider reports the semi-retired pop starlet, who gave birth to Sean Preston in September, has taken a pass on a "very lucrative offer" to headline "Sweet Charity."
The Britster, 23, would have replaced Christina Applegate as the titular lovelorn dancer, with her employment-challenged hubby Kevin Federline reportedly in line for a hoofer role.
"Britney said she couldn't do it because of 'family issues,'" a mole tells the Insider.
Seems they shelled out big bucks for a private jet and deluxe accommodations for the Federlines, who took in the show during a mid-November trip to New York.
"The producers didn't mind," says the snitch. "They thought they'd make that money back right away once she said yes."
But Britney ultimately turned her back on the Great White Way "because she didn't want to uproot her family to New York and make such a long commitment," explains a Spears confidante. "Of course, she seriously considered it, but she's a new mom and Kevin has two other kids who are also on the West Coast."
You'll recall that it was just about a year ago that Mrs. Federline fired off a salvo to working mothers everywhere by declaring, "To be a really good mom, I feel your child needs to be your full-time job. I want to raise my kids and share all of those precious moments with them and not rely on nannies."
What is all this nonsenseabout the Vatican outlawiing LIMBO?! What's next to go..... Pin the Tail on the Donkey?!
For real?
My candidate for the lowest rated program of the year:
Have No Fear: The Pope John Paul II Story....tonight on CBS.
A happy PAGE 5 "Summer Stock" dance is called for:
Yep, that's the 10" one I have!
Yep, that's the 10" one I have!
Is this the Judy LP you found????
No...I offered NO remedies at all....not even metaphysical ones.
Bird food in the feeders at 9:30 am....and not ONE bird all day...NOT ONE!!!
Maybe tomorrow. What do they want, a menu?
DR RLP great Barkleys of Broadway Page Dance!
Is that the finale?

I thought TCB and I were the only ones out there who love this movie. All shows to Go don't it. (I don't usually care for Steenbergen but McDowell's performace is wonderful).
TOD: One of my favorite scores is his TIME AFTER TIME: I still remember the elation and relief I felt in 1979 at the end of the film when Mary Steenburgen told Malcolm McDowell as H.G. Wells that he wasn't returning to the past without her. The movie was romantic and I loved the screenplay, but I believe the score by Rozsa was the romantic undercurrent.

I love the score from "Limelight". I saw the film in my late teens and still love it. Another vote for "Laura" too.
I am never left out....left behind sometimes.
Hmmm.....maybe that's why I couldn't place the photo. The dress is a bit different, but then the RKO designer has said he had to be down on the set when a scene was filmed to make sure Ginger didn't add multiple "improvements" on the garment just before the cameras rolled.
Actually I heard on NPR yesterday that the Vatican has announced that they will no longer teach that unbapitized babies and people born before the time of Christ will go to "Limbo" a place that is supposedly neither heaven nor Hell. Being raised Lutheran I never held to any such concept, nor that of "Purgatory", another Catholic teaching to which the Lutherans do not ascribe
Okay...I'll play.
I can find no references stating you'd made any suggestions.
Of course, no one was specifically asked about it...it was generic...thrown out to all and sundry.
So...what's this about? Feeling left out?
:D :D :D

"Barkleys of Broadway" was MGM....costumes were by Irene and Valles.
I blame Jack!
Glad to see Tomovoz is talking to us again!
Jennifer, it’s nice your doctor is keeping tabs on you. When you are done taking the antibiotic, or near the end of them, I highly suggest taking acidophilus to prevent a yeast infection.
TMI!! TMI!! :-X
Have things quieted down in Parigi, Frank?
I'm missing the joke. What is TMI?
Do you stop taking them if it isn't strep?
It should have arrived a couple a weeks ago since it was just a short distance away in California. After multiple calls Keith found it was shipped to Florida instead of to us.
TMI = Too Much Information
J is really for "J'ai Du Bon Tabac!"
M is for More than I could ever say
K is for the Quelque Chose in you!
JMK; it's you and I!
They're ALL GONE!
Ain't that what you'd call DUMB in English??!! ::)
I have that effect on people. :o
LOL-Well men should also use acidophilus if they have been on antibiotics.
Quelle LULL!

Had he ever stopped??
Favourite romantic score -- of the ones I know, bien sûr! --
SOMEWHERE IN TIME.
My intention was to post updates on our situation here, however, the sensitive satellite has been acting up again.
I've had strep three or four times in my 57 years. It's never pretty....
Speaking of cold meds, has anyone tried that new TheraFlu "strip"? The one that you just peel out of a plastic pack and put on your tongue to dissolve?
The last time that I had strep was about 12-13 years ago or so. I had gotten it (and I won't say how ;)) and was given antibiotics for 10 days. It came back two days after I stopped taking the meds. I was given two weeks of antibiotics, but again, it came right back. Then they gave me a month's worth of meds. It finally stayed away. They told me that since I got strep three times within six months, they could take out my tonsils. So they did. I've been fine ever since.
But, I was real lucky with my recovery. I'd been told horror stories about adults who get their tonsils out. A former co-worker said that he couldn't eat or drink anything for two days! I was at the hospital (in Tacoma) on a Tuesday morning at about 9:30, in the operating room at 11:45 and I woke up at about 1:00 p.m. and home by 3:00. Easy as pie. I was given pain killers, but I didn't need as much as they gave me...at first. The only real problem was on that Friday I felt better than I actually was. My sister, niece and I went out for dinner and I made the horrible mistake of ordering Nachos! :o SCRAPE!!!!!!! Anyway, it really wasn't too bad, but that was when I really definitely the pain killers that I hadn't used earlier in the week.

I'm up, I'm up. Very interesting choices for romantic film score. And boy do I agree with Pogue about Robin and Marian. I also love Mancini's Two For The Road, and Tiffany's.
Two Pope movies? Overkill is the WRONG word I am sure. Got my networks confused.....oh yes SURVIVOR is on CBS. :P
Rock em Sock em Pontiffs....hmmmmmm

Lost prediction (you heard it here first): Mark my words: Echo (Eko?) is going to turn out to be a bad guy, maybe even one of the Others.
DR MattH,
Summer Stock (the soundtrack) was released on the Rhino Handmade label too!

DR MATTH - the EARL and OFFICE moves are good news to me. I can watch them on Thursday and hopefully the NEW edition of THE AMAZING RACE on Tuesday.
Does anyone know when a new episode of Alias will air? Did I miss it? Did anyone else hear that they confirmed this is the final season (sorry if I missed any posts)
Also Jennifer Garner just gave birth to a little girl.
Que es "Areetsed Development"?
Next Wednesday at 10 on ABC.
Since I watch CSI on Thursdays at 9, I'll still be recording them, but it doesn't free up a troubled Thursday spot for me because I love SCRUBS, too. I will still have three favored shows coming on at 9: SCRUBS, HOUSE, and SUPERNATURAL.
However, with the cancellations of NIGHT STALKER and REUNION, I will have fewer shows on Thursday at 9 to worry about.
is yuo insinuatin' I tpyed Arrested Development inncorrrrktlee?
I watched the repeat of CSI tonight which was this season's premiere. Even though it aired back in September, I didn't remember the solutions for any of the cases, so it was almost like a new episode.
Good lord, could they move the timeslot one more time!??
DR MATTH - I have seen them a few times and enjoyed them - I liked the books as well. But as you say, they are very said and worn looking. John Litel looks so YOUNG AND THIN playing her father.
Interesting B-films series.
TPUNK - I didn't mix the names up did I? Was it Killbot who was at the door? I didn't go back to check when I wrote my post (way) earlier today.Yup, it was Killbot who was at the door, out the window, onto the street, through the front door of the building and to the apartment door.
APPRENTICE SPOILER for tonight's show.

I won't spoil too much. But I totally hate what Mr. Trump did. I am so NOT happy!
