Title: THE BLURBS

Danger: Walking in to any classroom of "unknowns".
Car brakes failing (master cylindar jamming) as I was driving down a hill with a cross road at the bottom of that hill. Amazing how we can find religion suddenly. (This was 1970 and I remember it very well indeed)

Most dangerous and as a consequence mostly blocked from memory was "escaping" this house 21 years ago as bush fires engulfed the properties around and houses exploded. We just wanted to get the dogs out of the area. Driving through black smoke and "feeling" the way along the road which was lit by spurts of flame crossing in front was somewhat scary. We drove (two cars) for about a mile to a safe clear area, not knowing if each other was safe until we arrived. Not a good memory. BTW, the house survived - many of those in the "village" did not.

To quote a young lion in a Disney movie, "I LAUGH in the face of danger! Ha ha ha ha!"

I'm sitting here, trying to think of something dangerous that I've done, but I can't think of anything. Scary stuff has happened, but I don't think it really counts as dangerous.

Once, while walking home fom a friend's Halloween party (he lived on my street), a man followed me home. He stayed about 20 feet behind me, but he never slowed or stopped. If I sped up, so did he. Once I was IN the house, he stood out front for a while. I was terrified. My parents called the cops to report a creepy man in the area, but they never found anyone.

And what great news about Juliana! Where is the tour right now? I remember she had told me about going on as Millie in another city, but I know that's not for months. Super good-luck vibes to her!

Well, I'm of to get ready for school. I hope you all have nice days.

I was about to turn (legally) onto a one way street. What I didn't know there was a high speed car chase. I was able to stop in time but I will never forget the scared look of the driver as pass within inches of my car. (If I had been a foot or so further up he would have broadside my car) and if that was not bad enough the policemen in the car that was chasing him was also firing their guns at him. I am also convinced that I was inches away from being shot myself.

Coda to the story. They caught up to him about five minutes later and shot him to death.

Sounds like a page out of one of my mystery novels. But it was true. (Happened in Montreal)

Good danger or bad danger?

If it's good danger, then it would be skydiving (although as i've said, I felt less fear jumping out of an airplane than I do entering a party).

Bad danger?  Other than flukes with cars (catching on fire, failing brakes, etc.), I guess I'm oblivious to when I am in danger, and I only realize it afterwards (thank God).   Sure, there have  been plenty of bullies in my youth, and some guys even held a knife to my throat in high school, but I'm not counting that stuff.

I'll have to think on this one.  I need to go have my cereal now.

As Kerry said, Good Danger or Bad Danger.

Good Danger would be snorkeling in over 12 feet of water in Key West this year. It's dangerous because, despite coming from the Land of 10,000 Lakes (Minnesota) I don't really swim very well. But we wanted to do this and it was great. I want to snorkel again in calmer and more shallow water.

Bad Danger would be the three muggings I survived during my 23 years in NYC. The first happened one week to the day after I moved here at 11am at 57th Street and Broadway. For those of you who know NY, you know that's usually a high traffic area. Well, not on that particular day. The second involved some thugs who decided to "beat up the fag" as I was walking home around 9pm one night in 1983. I luckily escaped with little damage, more psychological than anything. I'm so glad I can run. Track was the one sport in high school I could do without a problem. The third involved the most serious mugging when two extremely tall men jumped me at 7:30 in the morning as I was walking to work. Again, luckily, I survived with little physical harm. Rolling into a ball like a hedgehog and screaming seemed to save me from further harm, although they did break my glasses and hit me repeatedly. They never got my wallet because that side of me was on the sidewalk in a fetal position. They ran away, never to be caught. At least the policeman was sensitive and helpful, although I still find it annoying that at 7:30 in the morning on a major NY street no one would even call the police to report a crime in progress. There were people on the street who just walked by! I went to my office and called the police from there.

On a brighter note, Jason, I think George answered your question about Broadway, The Golden Years, near the end of yesterday's notes. I went to the site and watched all the trailers. You can do it on a dial-up connection, but it's much easier if you have high speed. The movie looks WONDERFUL. I can't wait until it comes out. I know someone on the production end and he said it was amazing to be involved in this project. They have entered it in some festivals and are still raising money, I believe, to help in distribution. Jack (the person I know) said that Sondheim was not really interested in speaking but agreed to talk for about 5 minutes. He ended up going on for a long, long time speaking eloquently about the difference between current Broadway and the "old days". There are also intereviews with Gwen Verdon and others who are no longer alive. It sounds wonderful (to repeat myself) and I'll be right there on line as soon as it's released in NY.

Quiet morning here at HHW. I remember seeing Dan-in-Toronto here yesterday but he didn't post! Right now it's just Andrea and me. I must finish my report on my trip to Cleveland but I will be in and out all day looking for exciting things to talk about.

While it's technically not danger, I'm involved in an obnoxious dispute with my cable company, which is becoming more unpleasant as time passes. I thought perhaps it would be resolved yesterday but no such luck. I have indicated to them times in which they may contact me in an attempt to resolve the dispute so I may be speaking to them over my lunch hour. I hope that between 12 noon and 1pm today we can come to some resolution satisfactory to all parties (does that sound sufficiently lawyer-like?).

It should have been called VERA.  Never before have I seen an actress totally stop the show with such laughs and applause after every line of dialogue as the wonderful Marian Seldes.  She was a Vera like none I have ever seen.  Also stopping the show with just about every line was Swoosie Kurtz as Gooch.  They were the high points of an otherwise mixed AUNTIE MAME.

In the title role was "male actress" Charles Busch.  The more I see Mr. Busch the more I realize that in every role he plays he is basically the same.  This personna worked fine as Mame, but was less of a special treat than some of the others.

There was obviously a lot of problems with casting.  By the time the program was printed several announced names were no longer listed (notably Robert Sean Leonard and Olympia Dukakis) and from program printing to performance three more stars (Louis Zorich, Lucie Arnaz and Rosie O'Donnell) were gone.  Rosie was replaced as Nora by HHW's own Allison Frasier who was a delight.  The rest of the cast ranged from excellent (Sarah Uriate Berry, Charles Kimborough and Beth Howland as the Upsons, Douglas Sills as Lindsay, Rue McClanahan as Mother Burnside) to miscast but game (Anthony Edwards at Beau, Christopher Sieber as Patrick).  There must be better child actors in NY than T. J. Larke who played young Patrick, but I'm sure there are also worse ones too.  My only disappointment (although the audience loved him) was B J Wong as Ito who played it like he was Hirohito stuck working as a butler.

In watching, I realized that this is a textbook case of turning a book into a play and even more importantly a play into a musical.  Many lines of dialogue in the play ended up as lyrics in the musical.

It was a packed house and I hope it made a lot of money for BC/EFA.

That is super news about Juliana! I hope Millie comes to Portland!! I would love to see it and see her!

Most dangerous moment: Hmmm. The only thing that I can think of right now was when I worked at the Bi-Mart pharmacy. A gentleman became agitated because we wouldn't give him his prescription for free. He came back a few minutes later with a rifle. Thankfully our security man tackled him and a the police were called. But it did shake us up a bit. I left retail shortly thereafter.

Good morning everyone!

Snaps to Julianna for the great news!  I guess she'll literally have to sing for her turkey supper on thursday! ;)

I am still knee deep into my Madhi paper but I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel and know where my arguments are going.   It's just a matter of grinning and bearing the agony of 6 more pages...

I don't think I have ever been in a truly dangerous situation.  Of course, like Sarah (and Simba) I have a tendency to disregard the danger of something I am doing.  I especially like walking home from parties/nights out at ungodly hours by myself.  While I understand the danger that could be involved, I have never experienced it. I like being out alone on an empty street in the wee hours of the morning.  There's something very conducive to thinking in that.

Don't forget everyone that tonight is the American Idol Christmas Spectacular (8pm on FOX) with Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken and a special performance by CANADIAN IDOL Ryan Malcolm.   The Cdn Idol is so awful! I can not wait!  :)

I have had several close calls in my life, but I'll write about the one that came to mind first. It started snowing during one day in February during the morning. The school district was fairly quick about calling off school,, but the school where I taught was not centrally located in the district, so we had to wait for buses to get there. I had a 37 mile commute to the north to get home, and I begged my principal to let someone sit with my class while I set off on a long, arduous drive in heavy snow and sleet. (We don't have much snow in the South as a rule so I'm not the most experienced driver in the stuff.) Anyway, the principal would not let me go, so I didn't get out of there until it had been snowing about two hours. I was driving probably 30 mph and staying well behind a truck in front of me when all of a sudden, he slammed on brakes and started to skid. I was trying not to panic but the truck was swerving all over the road, so I pushed down too hard on my brakes and started swerving off the road and faced going down about a 20 foot enbankment into a fairly large creek. I had no clue which direction to turn the steering wheel as I turned to the side heading over but somehow the combination of my turning the wheel and pumping the brake made me swerve the other way instead and go over into the median where I came to a stop. If I had gone down that embankment, I think I would have been killed because it was very steep and there was no guard rail. Makes me clammy just to write about it now.

Needless to say, when we went back to school, I told the principal what a near escape I had because he had not let me leave before the snow got too deep and the roads too treacherous.

What lovely blurbs!  I love the word "whimsy!"

Enjoyed the pictures that Tom from OZ posted last night, of the small hole Baby Jane  :o  and the LP from Mr Roger Smith!  Also enjoyed reading about Jason's recitals.  Yes "Happiness" is a wonderful song to sing....and I also like the finale of SNOOPY!!! that is called "If Just One Person..." that is similar.  I staged it liked Jason describes, and had Woodstock using sign language to do the lyrics, and it was a sweet ending to a very funny show!

It is official my sister Molly, her husband Jason, and I will be going to Midnight Madness at Walmart.   So soon after the curtain comes down on Juliana's Millie, we will be heading out!

All of these stories about driving on snow and ice are scary....I try to avoid it if possible - which is why I have no vacation days left come summertime!

Danger - like DR Kerry, parachuting, which I did on my 40th birthday.  Never again!  And a couple of close calls in the car.

But I guess - one evening driving home after a rehearsal on a two lane road - no center line no shoulders.....I saw the headlights of a car coming toward me...and they did something weird...and then didn't keep moving toward me.  As I slowed down and drove ahead, I reached the car and realized that the driver had somehow flipped his car over on the roof and was trapped inside.  I stopped, and I was scared....no way to get around him...and I couldn't leave him.  No cell phone and no house nearby.  In the next seconds another car drove up...and then another.  We sent the third car to call for help (not a cell phone among us then), and the second driver and I finally got the guy out of the car.  Gasoline was leaking out and I assumed it would go up in flames any second (it never did).  The police and ambulance arrived after about 12 minutes and the driver was more shaken up than anything.  But hearing him yell: "Help me...get me out of here...help...."  I will never forget it, and though he would have been fine...I guess the element of danger was there....

Good morning all.
Why am I always running late in the mornings?
Dangerous situations...none come to mind right off the bat...unless you count survivng a 14-hour operation.  They kept me under for as long as humanly possible without causing damage. And they were cutting into my skull...so I guess that was fairly dangerous.  Lucky for me I was asleep for that part..

Post more later...bye!

Let's see...danger.  When I was a senior in college, I somehow bluffed my way out of a situation in which a guy with a knife decided he wanted the hubcaps off my 1964 Chevy Malibu SuperSport.  And I was damned if he was going to get them.  I saw several people "see" what was happening and giving us a "wide" berth as they went about their business.  Fortunately, one of the guy's friends walked up to him, took the knife from his hand and slapped the back of his head for being stupid in public.  Then he looked at me and said, "He's never cut anybody. He's just stupid."   I learned what "feeling contempt" means just afterward when a guy emerged from his car, walked over to me and said, "I was watching you closely and I'd have jumped out to help if he'd made a move."  That guy learned that day what a "contemptuous sneer" looks like!

Other than that, the only perceived danger in my life was when I was onboard USS Kitty Hawk in the Persian Gulf in January 1993 when the U.S. was launching strikes against Iraq when Saddam Hussein had violated the no-fly zones.  That went on for several weeks.  I had other things on my mind, though, like taking care of 18-20 international journalists on a daily basis...getting them to the flight deck for flight ops, setting up interviews with pilots and intelligence, getting their exposed film off the ship, getting them food and lodging and having their clothes cleaned for them.  I was a jack-of-all trades, averaged 4 hours of sleep a night for all three weeks.  When it was over, I slept for nearly two straight days.

Good morning!  I had a loverly sleepover at my friend's house last night, and now I am here to post til those bar-hopping cows come home.

I don't know if I've ever been in any really dangerous situations.  But I am sort of like Swishy and Emily I guess...I can be kind of impetuous and heedless.  Like when I lived in Brooklyn, I used to think nothing of taking the subway past midnight.  Then again, I lived in Brooklyn Heights so I wasn't TOO worried about bad things happening.  Now that I'm a little older and wiser (but not by much), I would probably think twice about doing that.

BK--Congrats on the wonderful blurbs!  Can't wait to read Kritzer Time!

Swishy--loved your sonnet from last night!  Very, very sweet...you definitely have a touch of the poet!

Andrea--In response to the pic of you and CYGOPP:  :o

WEL--Thanks for the Auntie Mame report!  One of the reasons I miss New York so much...I have to miss events like THAT!

The blurbs, BK, are not just good ones; they read well!

Der Brucer is busy making lists of things he wants and wants us to do.  I'm adding to the list: a notepad he can stick in his pocket, because he left his in Long Beach and has been using mine!  (But it's so good to have him back.  That, and I'm already starting to feel the effects of the meds, which is good news in itself.)

Most dangerous situation? Emily being bossy... yes lads and lassies... I have to live with that every single day!

Seriously, I think one of the creepist things I ever did was walk through Harlem in the middle of the night, only accompanied by another female friend. I had just read Bonfire of the Vanites, and was absolutely petrified of New York City at that point. No doubt, nothing would have happened, but sterotypes die hard.

I'll tell you something that's dangerous. Walking into my English class today without an essay. Cross your fingers, everyone. But to have an essay and a ten-minute presentation due on the same day, that's just evil.

My partner for this presentation never did answer my email. I haven't seen him since it was assigned. I came up with my five minutes last night when I decided I wasn't going to hear from him. I hope he came up with five minutes of his own.

Oy. This is why I hate group projects. I always end up doing it on my own anyway. Why should I have to share my grade?

Hey, I had already written that part prior to BK's pathetic pleas for comments.

Dangerous experiences:  Well, of course, the most memorable was back in November of '63 when I was sitting in the jump seat next to my husband John in Dallas, and I had just turned around and said, "You can't say Texas doesn't love you, Mr. President," when suddenly I heard a gun......... Wait that wasn't me, that was Mrs Connelly.  Well, I do recall someone calling me Nellie back then.

Seriously though, lots of dangerous experiences, most of which I try not to dwell upon.  I was beaten up once in a Denny's bathroom by the mountain man from DELIVERANCE and his son who were apparently in town to bash some queers.  Or, when I was a bartender, there was the drunk biker who shoved the loaded gun in my face and was going to shoot me, becuase I cut him off.  The rest of the dangerous ones were mostly my own fault, back in my drinking days.

Don't forget everyone that tonight is the American Idol Christmas Spectacular (8pm on FOX) with Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken and a special performance by CANADIAN IDOL Ryan Malcolm.

Now that I know that, I shall do my best to forget it, as Sherlock Holmes would say.

You want us to mention the blurbs?  They are like preaching to the choir.  All of us DRs don't need blurbs to remind us of how good these books are.  They just make us more anxious for the book to come out and jealous of those who got to read it in advance.  They are great, and I hope they are read by others who will then buy the book(s) and discover everything in the blurbs are true.

Is there still going to be a slipcase so the whole trilogy can be boxed?  Now that you have finished the trilogy will you write any books about something or someone other than Benjamin?

Well I will of course be watching.  Hey, our Canadian Idol is not awful at all. He might not be as good as Clay or Kelly. But he is still good!

Oh and I was wondering if Ryan was really going to be on the show. The commercials confused me so much. when i would see the commercials on FOX they of course didn't mention him. But when I would see the similar commercials on CTV (Canadian channel) they would show him. It took me a while to realize that I was seeing the commercials on two different stations (and of course CTV wanted to plug their own Canadian Idol).

Btw, DR Emily: Will you be watching Trista and Ryan's wedding? Starts this Wednesday.

Thank you, WEL.  I didn't print the blurbs for any other reason than that I was pleased to get them and I thought they were terrific.  Only four people have read this book "in advance" and we're so ahead of the game with this one, that I'm hoping I may have books for sale as early as late Feb or early March.  It won't be available anywhere else until the end of April, though, just here.

I am currently ruminating on what I will write next, but the answer I would like to give is yes, I will write a totally different kind of book next if I can get up the nerve and come up with an idea (I have a few) that is fun and which excites me.

Lovely blurbs!

Dangerous situation:  Probably when I was out riding, training a three-year-old mare at 6 a.m., and she reared up, lost her balance, and fell backwards on top of me.  Early as it was, there was nobody around to help.  Even if there was someone around, I couldn't breathe for an eternity so I couldn't call for help anyway.  But I toughed it out and eventually got up.  There wasn't any major damage done, not that I would know because my stepmother never took me to the doctor or the ER or anything.  I was in Jr. High at the time.

I HUGELY admire novelists....I tried to write one once...and failed miserably.  Short stories are easy...it takes dedication as well as talent to be a good novelist.  :D

BTW we all love you Jennifer very much!

Awww, thanks!

Yes, I did notice that Rupert wasn't on Letterman. He also wasn't on the Early show on Friday.  He is definitely in Panama filming Celebrity Survivor. It's no rumor.

My pick is Colby (aka Hershey bar). I love him and was so devastated when he gave the money to Tina.

It will be VERY interesting to see how this Survivor plays out.

I just hope Rupert calms down a bit. I really liked him at the beginning. But he got too crazy for me near the end.

The blurbs are wonderful. I'm glad to have a sneak glance at one part of Kritzer Time.

Well, my saga with Time-Warner Cable seems to be over. It took most of my lunch hour and some vocal explosions on my part. I'm so glad I have a calmer side. His name is Anthony. At one point he took over and was able to deal with the "customer service" agent. As far as we know, the problems with my bill and the abysmal level of customer service have been dealt with and I should be receiving a free month of cable service and an offical letter acknowledging the dreadful level of service over the past month. I know there are worse problems in the world (like that war over in Iraq) but at least in my little corner of the world things will move a little bit more smoothly.

I don't think that I've ever been in a real dangerous situation, other than an earthquake here in Washington a couple of years ago.  That was pretty scary as it was happening, but as soon as it was over, and no one was hurt, I thought that it was a pretty cool experience.  I had only felt one small earthquake before, and not one since then.

BK, the blurbs are totally Blurb-a-licious! (http://forums.aliensoup.com/images/smilies/Jig.gif) They do seem heartfelt and sincere...and they're not the kind of blurbs that make you question if the blurbers actually read the book.  I've read a few of those.

As to my "danger" situations, they're all in Kritzer Time.

Last night I was looking at collector cars on eBay, just for fun.  I've never even glanced at that category before and it's fascinating.  For example, you can get a Porsche 914 (a car I REALLY wanted in the early 70s) in primo shape for around $5,000.  On the other hand a Mercedes SL class from 1968 (one of the most beautiful sporty cars ever made) will cost you close to 20K in primo condition.

Ben - I've never had any trouble with Time-Warner Cable which is more than I can say about cable companies I have dealt with in other parts of the country.  They are a little high priced but they do offer a great selection of channels.  One reason I won't switch to sattelite is New York 1.

BK - Do we get a lot of "guests" all the time?  Are there more "guests" than there used to be "lurkers".  I know there are some people --- including a popular newspaper and internet columnist --- who read these here notes and posts on a regular basis but would never consider posting.  Over the two years that you have been doing this I have received at least half a dozen e-mails regarding something I posted from people who admitted they read but never posted.  I'm sure they are among the "guests" who won't bother to register because (they think) they have nothing to say.

LOL JRand53! I know. You sent me both Frances Farmer books long, long ago. It has only been recently that I have started taking books to the gym as it has only been recently that I have been doing cardio whilst at the gym (it is hard to read a book while doing the other work-outs). So after reading Benjamin Kritzer and then Gloria Stuart's bio I thought it was high time that I dusted off one of the Frances Farmer books. I can't recall which one I popped into the gym bag though. You should really aspire to being a god, Jennifer.

"Goddess" is so sexist.

It's like adding "ette" to a word, and then it's described as a "diminutive."

God has no gender; it's all-inclusive.  Goddess is feminine, and, in today's PC world, a diminutive, as well.

Wonderful blurbs, BK. Congratulations.

I was in many dangerous situations as a child in Hungary. We tried to escape, were shot at by the Russians, captured, put in jail. all that fun stuff. That was AFTER our apartment buidling was set on fire and we had to escape to another building through crossfire with bodies falling left and right. (They didn't let us into that building, BTW.) Well, I could go on and on, but I won't.
To be in danger as a child is, I think, the worst possible experience, because you're so helpless. As an adult, you can act, react. As a child, things just happen to you and the adults are always in control. That does tend to do stuff to your head.
That's probably one of the reasons I like to write - you're the master of your (your characters' that is) destiny.

I actually hate THE BACHELOR and all that it stands for.  I will most definitely not be watching Trista do whatever she does.

Don't forget - Survivor is TOMORROW and not Thursday because I hear some foreigners are having a holiday in the middle of the week.  I say, how strange... ;)

Trista is getting married.  I think they will be the first couple from the series to get married.

Ahhh, it will be nice. Weddings are nice.

And yep Survivor is on tomorrow at 8pm.  Can't wait.

Jennifer, I don't think we go to the home page to see who's on, it's just that the information is available when you first go to the home page after reading the notes. I don't switch back and forth from page 5 of the notes (for example) to the home page I just go up to to see who's snoopin' around these here parts. Ben is right: I am here. I just had to read all of the posts before I could post. :)

Congrats to Juliana! I think the tour is in Cincinnati now.  (Correct me if I'm wrong.) Like Sarah, I remember Juliana telling me that she'll be playing Millie somewhere else, but I know it wasn't the Thanksgiving performance that she mentioned.

Danger: I don't think I've ever been in much danger. I'm pretty wary of doing things alone, and so far, nothing's happened if I've been out late with others. I'm scared pretty easily, though. For instance, a few days before my birthday this year, someone came to my house at around 11:15 PM and at midnight to ring my doorbell, set off firecrackers on our porch, and run away. I was so scared. Being dramatic, I said to my mom, "AAH! Someone's out to get me! They want me dead!" Looking back, I have to laugh at myself. Still, I can hardly go through the foyer without looking out the windows onto the porch before I go to bed.
I also have a story like Sarah does about being chased. During a choir trip to Myrtle Beach when I was in 10th grade, a few of us took a sick friend to the golf course a few blocks away from our hotel. (We had been told to go to the one right across the street in case she needed medicine. We were breaking the rules and living dangerously...um right :).) After we played, we walked back to the hotel. All of a sudden, one of the girls in our group whispered, "Don't turn around!" through clenched teeth. Two men were following us. We sped up and ran into a Friendly's right next to the hotel, where we ate ice cream and forgot about the scary guys.

I will sort of miss Rupert by the way. I already miss Ryan (Ryno). My hope is that Burton keeps his word and takes Lil as far as possible.

Why did Sandra vote for John anyhow? That messed things up for her team didn't it? Hmmm. She must have really been mad at him (and who can blamer her).

I would bet money that Burton and Lil will stay strong as far as they can. Although I wonder if things might turn out so that either Burton has to side with John or Lil with the women.

As for Sandra, my best guess is either a) that she didn't realize hers could be the deciding vote or b) she's an idiot.

I mean Rupert thought that he had himself, Lil, Sandra, and Crista. He was not sure if Burton, and John had switched with Darrah and Tijuana. If that had been true, then Sandra's vote would have cost him the tie. Sandra could not have known that Lil was siding with B, J, T and D.  And I doubt she would have purposely cost Rupert the tie. She must have thought Burton and John would vote with Rupert, Crista, Rupert and Lill. And I guess she hated John enough and wanted to give him the vote.

She obviously did not think it out. And it would have been very funny if SHE had sent Rupert packing because of her own stupidity.

You know, now that you mention it, guys following girls is very normal in Myrtle Beach. I don't think that ever occurred to us. Wow. You made a good point! I think the thing was, these guys looked like they were in their thirties, and we were youngish teens. (Middle-aged teens? All I know is I was 15.)

I learned something about soup?  I have no memory of it.

In Friday's (I Am The Steam Man) notes, bottom of page 2, you wrote:

""Has anyone misunderstood the nature of soup lately?  I sometimes misunderstand the nature of people - for example, this morning I found out a little something that baffled me but good.  Perhaps I'll share it with you later, for I must ready myself for the work environment.""

The soup reference, I think, may have been to Leek Soup which someone MAY have had the previous evening...but I wasn't sure what you learned that baffled you was soup-related or not.  You HAD mentioned having something called "tira misu" in your notes that day.

Rosie didn't even have to the courtesy to appear in her book writer's AUNTIE MAME (after being mentioned in all the publicity).  Maybe she was unsure how the audience would react or maybe she realized that she can't act any character other than Rosie.

What's your least favorite Christmas song?

I'm beginning to think mine is the Andy Williams version of "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year."

For one reason, it seems to get played all the time, everywhere I go.

For another, it is NOT the most wonderful time of the year...not by a long shot.  It consistently fails to live up to most folks' expectations of it and it induces stress, chronic overspending and a general malaise, that in many people, evolves into deep depression.

I love the season, to be sure.  But I hate seeing what it does to others.

Every time I hear that song, I ask myself "What was he THINKING" when he recorded it????

Hi, I’m back from L.A.  I hope Keith entertained you while I was gone.  You certainly kept him entertained.  Echo injured her shoulder and wasn’t doing well at all last Friday.  He had taken her to the doctor who tranquilized and X-rayed her.  The rest of the day she was groggy and kept crying.  I’m pleased to say she is much better now though it will be awhile before she can go for a walk.

I had a delightful time with Bruce and Jay.  It was a pleasure to meet Jay and he was so kind to make the dinner arrangements.  I look forward to doing getting together in the future.

Maya, I see a beautiful new picture of you.

Lulu, is that a self portrait?   Did you draw it?

Bruce, the blurbs are exceptionally nice and of course only increases my anticipation of the forthcoming book.

Panni, I’ll miss you.  When will the story of your escape be televised?

“Also on the news was a Mayflower moving van had overturned on I-580 and burst into flames.  All traffic going across the Bay Bridge was stopped.  And folks could see furniture in the van....burning to cinders.”  Our first move from LA to New Jersey was with Mayflower.  We still cringe when we see a Mayflower truck.

Storytime…

Once upon a time, when I was much younger, I was admittedly down on my financial luck and was living in a very seedy hotel on Hollywood Boulevard.  It was easy to get to my job from there, but I was still just managing to live hand to mouth.

Well, one night a gang had found their way into the hotel, looking for trouble, and not finding any they had decided to create some of their own.  As I was going to my room, the leader of the gang came up to me and, without even saying so much as “Excuse me” whapped me in the nose, breaking it.  They then proceeded to chase me down the hall, yelling “Get the faggot!" and slamming me against a fire door, breaking my shoulder.  I’m still not sure how I managed to get through that door and away from them; I think someone else may have shown up, and that the gang wasn’t cool about having witnesses.

This was before the term “hate crime” had been coined, by the way.  Just a historical footnote.

The doctors at the emergency room were able to put my arm in a sling, and give me some pain pills and a referral list of doctors.  I’d managed to call a friend who lived not too far away, who agreed to put me up for the night, as there was no way I was going back to that hotel.  But by this time, even the busses in Hollywood weren’t running, and I wasn’t thinking too clearly, so I decided to walk.

About a block or two from my friend’s place, a trio pulled up behind me in a car and hopped out.  One of them waved a pistol in my face and hissed, “Give me your money!”  I was pretty groggy at this point, the pain pills working their effect, and could only manage the intelligent response of “Huh?”  “I said, give me your money!” he repeated, a little louder this time.

At this point I just started to laugh, which threw the fellow and his fellows.  (Odd, how they never show up alone, or at least they never do in my experience.)  Rather loudly, I told him “I don’t have any money!”  This drew a gulp from my assailant.  “Will you keep your voice down!  And, uh, give me your money.”  He wasn’t sounding so sure this time.  I just stared at him, and calmly, but even more loudly, told him “You idiot!  I’ve just been mugged!  You’re too late, the other guys got all my money!”  By this time he’s starting to shush me, and waving with his hands in a downward motion to be quiet, which looked kind of odd with that gun he was carrying.  “Look at my shoulder!  Do you think I’d be wandering the streets of Hollywood with a broken shoulder and my arm in a sling at this time of night if I hadn’t already been mugged?”

The poor fellow looked at his cohorts, who could only shrug in return.  They hopped back into their car and drove off, and I made the rest of the way to my friend’s place without incident.

Was that fast enough?  I have been busy reading Friday’s and today’s posts in-between running back and forth to do my laundry and.

First Failed attempt at making a Jennifer song: (Keep in mind, my cultural references are probably messed)

I am a Goddess Song

"May I have your attention please?
May I have your attention please?
Will the real Slim Goddess please stand up?
I repeat, will the real Slim Goddess please stand up?
We're gonna have a problem here..

Y'all act like you never seen a musical theatre person before
Jaws all on the floor like Chita, like Liza just burst in the door
and started stealing her show worse than before
they first were on stage, throwin her over the set(Ahh!)
It's the return of the... "Ah, wait, no way, you're kidding,
she didn't just say what I think she did, did she?"
And DR.  BK said... nothing you idiots!
DR. BKs dead, he's locked in my orchastra pit! (Ha-ha!)
Singing Diva's love Jennifer{*vocal turntable:
chigga chigga chigga*} "Slim Goddess, I'm sick of her
Look at her, walkin around flaunting her you-know-what
Kissing the you-know-who,"  "Yeah, but she's so cute though!"
Yeah, I probably got a couple of scores up in my head loose
But no worse, than what's goin on in your average message board.

hehe... I should actually study...

Good eve, everyone.

I'm very frustrated, y'all. You can tell I'm frustrated because I just said "y'all." For some reason, my important pieces of mail don't seem to be arriving. For example, my DVDs from NetFlix STILL have not arrived. One of them is overdue by a week. And I ordered things from Amazon.com on Friday, and they should have arrived by now. I'm truly baffled, and I'm beginning to wonder if perhaps the mailperson or one of my neighbors is helping him/herself to my packages. I'm truly concerned and confused and a little upset about it. Actually, quite upset about it. Who do I contact?

Dangerous situations: I make it a point to avoid danger at all costs, but I guess the scariest thing that's ever happened to me was this: I was 8 years old and we had an above-ground swimming pool in our back yard, and my cousin, grandmother and great aunt were staying with me while my parents were out of town. My cousin ran an extension cord from the kitchen out to the back yard to plug in her radio, and I got out of the pool to use the bathroom or get a snack or something... Anyway, there was a cut in the rubber sheathing on the extension cord, and the exposed wires just happened to be touching the aluminum storm door, which I didn't know, so when I grabbed the door handle, a pretty strong current of electricity ran through my wet little body and my hand clenched up and wouldn't release, so I couldn't let go of the door. A little girl in the neighborhood saw me and went around to get my cousin, who, in her panic, tried to pull me away from the door, but she was wet too and I became a conductor of electricity, so she couldn't let go of me, either. Luckily, my grandmother heard the little girl screaming and opened the kitchen door only to find the two of us being electrocuted. She grabbed a towel and unplugged the extension cord and we were finally able to let go of the door handle. I don't think I ever got in that pool again, and my parents got a new storm door (a plastic one, I think) post-haste.

I got JERRY SPRINGER: THE OPERA on CD today. It's funny, but I'm only through the first few tracks and it's starting to get redundant. I'll let you know what I think once I get all the way through it.

MBarnum: Your package went out today. I hope you enjoy it. :)

God, I am a dork sometimes.  Or at least a ditz.  You see I thought I had to work tonight, but I just remembered (only AFTER I got to the school, mind you) that the teacher who I assist on Tuesday nights called off tonight's class, because he figured that no one would bother showing up with the holidays!  Oh well..I got paid today...not too upset!

Jane--WB and thank you so much for the compliment!  :D

Andrea--very cute song!!

Jason--hmm...well once a package I was expecting was late, so I called the UPS people.  You DO need to have a tracking number for your orders though!  I hope you get everything soon!

Here's my attempt at a Goddess song.

You've heard of Woman and heard her roar
Of her virtues sweet and modes'
But next to my riches, she's just poor
Behold, I am a Goddess!

We've won no small degree of fame
Us ladies like Aphrodite;
But we'll set your clothing all aflame
If you dare to call us flighty!

Chorus:
I am a goddess
And not the oddes'
I have a lot of power
I am a goddess
Who wears a bodice
With many a pretty flower

There's Hera and Freya, Kali too
There's Lakshmi and Astarte
Mortals, they don't have a clue,
How we goddesses like to party!

There are goddesses too at HainesHisWay
Goddesses of druggies and tarts
Goddesses of the Musical and the Play
And a Goddess of CYGOPP's heart

Repeat Chorus:

I am a goddess
And not the oddes'
I have a lot of power
I am a goddess
Who wears a bodice
With many a pretty flower

I'm very logey right now as the afternoon winds down.  Are any of you logey?  Are we having a logey lull?  Can a lull be logey or, conversely, can a logey be lull?  Can one be logey and be low key at the same time?  I don't know, I'm feeling a bit logey right now.  Maybe if we weren't in the middle of a lull I wouldn't feel so logey.  Soon I'll be leaving to go home and then I can feel logey in my home environment.

Good evening all!  What a day.  I should have hit that hay harder.  I was dragging from the get go this morning and almost missed the bus.

I even fell asleep on the ride in.  Something I have never done–going home I’ve fallen asleep several times but this was a first.  The scary part was that what woke me was that I wasn’t breathing.  Laugh if you will but it scared me.  I was seeing black when I first opened my eyes until I managed to take a deep breath.  It gave me a horrible headache that took most of the day to lose.

The weather didn’t help much for my mood or my head either.  It was overcast all day.

One bright note was that I got a free T-shirt at an agricultural fair they had in Court House Square at lunch.   I managed to get the 2nd to last free shirt and a co-worker got the last one. Yay!  We also got to sample lots of goodies.  Fresh orange juice, milk, tomatoes, some stir fry and pumpkin pie to name a few.

They even had a fake cow that you could milk but I thought it was utterly ridiculous and didn’t try it.

Congrats to Juliana! Break a leg, an arm or whatever it takes but knock’em dead!  Wish I could be there to see it.

Equal Congrats to BK for the blubs on the new book.  I see I  have some catching up to do.  I have twelve  books in my stack waiting to be read but as soon as that goes down a bit, I will have to start with your first book and work my way up.

Wow, look at those Karma points.  Thank you.  I really didn’t say what I did to get more Karma.  I was only answering the question from the other day.  I’m still catching up.

As far as danger goes, humm.  Nothing recent that’s for sure.  Growing up I had plenty of times being thrown from a horse and we had a travel trailer overturn on a trip one time.  After it was over it was kind of funny because the ketchup in the fridge had hit the door and was dripping out the door.  The cops thought someone was in there and pried the door open to look.

As far as “Guests/lurkers” go.  Sometimes that’s me.  I forget to log in, I just start reading the posts and writing what I want to reply in WordPerfect as I read them.

I know people that are to shy to post on a board, any board.  That’s why I try to say “Hello” to them and acknowledge that they are there.

I do have to say that in chat, if someone enters the room with a name you don’t know, if they aren’t hurting anything, I think it’s best to say hello and leave them alone.  They might be trying to figure out the controls or shy but want to sit and watch for awhile before joining in on the fun.  You notice I hardly said two words at first but I think I’m getting better.  I’m starting to get used to the controls and the speed of the board.  Anyway, even if it is an interloper, if he/she isn’t doing anything or saying anything wrong, I don’t see the harm.    Better that then to scare a shy person away.  Anyway, that’s just IMHO err In My Humble Opinion.

Whew!  I FINELY got caught up on all the posts and notes!  It’s been a postin’ kinda day!  If I can ever get time, I do want to work with my Photoshop program so I can post some pictures!

Lastly, I would also like to say how very, very glad I am that despite the various dangers (some of which gave me the chills to read), that you all managed to survive them and are here with us now.

I came home from school today only to find that my parents had bought a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts and am now repeating over and over again:

"I WILL NOT EAT A KK DONUT!  JARED NEVER EATS KK!  JARED ONLY EATS SUBWAY!"

I decided to eat an apple to assuage (is that a word? Noel? :) ) my donut hunger but of course an apple is an apple and not a donut.  I hope my stomach can't tell the difference and will stop its KK craving.

A KK donut has 10 grams of fat.  A 12 inch Végé-délice sandwich from Subway (no cheese) has less than 2.

"I WILL NOT EAT A KK DONUT!  JARED NEVER EATS KK!"

I am going to go eat another apple.  :'(

Does it say anything?  Like, oh... Farmers wives make the best hoers?

Or, World Champion Gelder ?

Good evening everyone.  Currently I am watching the last few minutes of the Idol special, in which the classic "Silent Night" is being butchered by a bunch of screaming young adults.  Stop the madness.

I am also making a banana cream pie for my dear friend who has made the very wise decision to let go of a man who has been the source of much confusion and frustration for her.  This rather famous (in the theatre community, at any rate) man would have been perfect for my friend if only he would have been able to figure out what he wants and treat her with respect.  Oh well.  I am very proud of my friend for corralling enough self-respect to walk away with her dignity (somewhat) intact.  Good vibes to all women out there who are in similar situation and can't find the strength to move on.

I missed the big pasta day yesterday, so here is one of my favorite pasta dishes:

Pasta Primavera a la Joy

Ingredients:
Mushrooms
Onions
Tomatoes
Zucchini
Yellow Squash
(insert your fav. veggie here)
FRESH Linguine...

Gotta run, more later.  Sorry to leave you in suspense.

DR td, I hope you'll post your reactions to JACQUES BREL after you have watched it.

Well, I just got in from the theater, and the store would've been closed had I chanced the drive to it, so no BREL on dvd tonight.
On the other hand, I have been a fan of the film's soundtrack ever since it was released, which was prior to the actual showing of the film.
The film was the only one of the entire American Film Theater series which I managed to fit in all four showings of - - there's just something about that cast and that SEVENTY-TWO PIECE ORCHESTRA that made me inebriate.
Having been a fan of Brel's compositions from the first recording of . . .ALIVE AND WELL, the film - and it's very pre-mtv approach touched with a dab of Samuel Beckett (NOT the one that Scott Bakula played, either) - - seemed a bit daunting and incomprehensible at the time, but, after years and years of a third generation PBS broadcast of the film, I'm delighted to know that my dvd of BREL arrived safe and sound at Borders, and I only need go to pick it up BEFORE THE HERDS OF CHRISTMAS SHOPPERS congest all traffic, causing me to curse like a sailor in Amsterdam. . .

In other words, Matt:  I'm a major fan of the film.
The soundtrack was one of the first things I had transferred to cd once the technology came into being.

Did you know that Santa is the only man in the world that can run around with an old bag all night and not get talked about?

But oh my!  What WAS he/she thinking when he/she perched up there in front of that big old cow?  From that angle, I cannot discern the human's gender!

WOW! I'm finally here! I keep getting distracted from my computer by little things such as: Naps, homework, dinner, "family meetings", looking through old papers from grades past, talking to Maya on the phone, etc.

Today was a GREAT day. I got a 100 on my Algebra quiz! *Happy Dance*
I watched Finding Nemo in French class, en francais. "Trouver Nemo" is such a great movie.
I presented my sonnet in English, and it was very well accepted. Not to sound conceited, but mine was the best. I would guess (and probably be right) that everyone else wrote theirs during first period. Slackers.

It's kind of ironic that on this day, when DR Paulie registers, Ben begins spelling names backwards. Ever since we first became friends a few months back, Paul and I have called each other Haras and Luap. Crazy coincidence.

Andrea: CYGOPP is pretty. I want one :).

Laura II: Who got sick at Myrtle Beach?

Jane: Welcome back! Your husband was quite entertaining, with his scolding messages towards Bruce. But we're glad to have you "home" :).

Emily: Resist temptations! Don't give in to the donut call! You sound like Homer Simpson, only he would have given up by now.

My room is messy again. I am doomed to never have a clean room. I would give up, but my dad is just NON-STOP persisting. Parents are so intimidating sometimes! The threat of "Hmm...maybe if the room isn't clean, the computer might get taken away. Would you like that Sarah? Is that incentive enough for you? Maybe I should go look at your closet and see how much work you've done, since I KNOW you haven't been on the computer or anything, am I correct?"

They're right, though. Damn it.

Emily - to defend myself, I lived in the land of 20 page philosophy papers for two years...then I finished that part of my degree.  This is a 100 level class that I need to graduate.  5 pages is nothing...which is why I put it off 'till the night before it was due :)

I also watched the Idol special. What did you Americans think of our Canadian Idol? He didn't have much to do.

Did anyone else think it is still a bit too early to be hearing all these Christmas songs (with snow and trees galore). I know it's November sweeps. But I really think that in 2 weeks I would have enjoyed this special more.

And why was Clay the host and not Ryan Seacrest?

On the topic of donuts: I am on a no sweet diet (Yeah, I know, stupid, cause it's not like I already don't fit into a small)... today, in an effort to resist chocolate, I ate kosher pickles, chicken figures, trukey lunch meat, oranges and croutons... somehow, I think it would have been better to eat the chocolate!

Ann and I posted at the exact same time, but mine is the only one that shows up on the homepage list. So, for future reference, Ann posted too!

Good vibes to Andrea's neighbor! ~~~

Emily and Ann: I had to write a 30 page paper last year on the Mesopotamian way of life. THIRTY PAGES! Do you know how BORING that is? Size 12 font, Times New Roman, 1.5 spaced, and no names/date/class at the top, or on a cover page. Mr. Richards was the devil!

About an hour ago, I was looking through my papers from last year, and I found all of my history essays from last year. Altogether, there has to be at least 85, each 3 pages long. I have myself a book!

Clay hosted the American Idol special because in the last two months he has emerged as the biggest star from the two years of the show. Ryan Seacrest is not a performer and there would be no need to pay him a salary to just introduce acts when Clay (and a couple of others) could do it so conveniently.

I didn't like most of the music or singing, but I did think Ruben and Tamyra did well with "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," and I liked Clay's "The First Noel." Not much else appealed to me.

I was wondering if anyone bought the new re-releas of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I did and was wondering what people thought of the transfer. I saw it over the weekend on tv. they must have cut out over 45 minutes of the film so it would run in a 2hr time slot with commercials. It was a travesty. There should be some kind of rule to butchering a film in that way especially when there is nothing that would need censoring.

I've a Thanksgiving wish - Please, don't glower!
But it grows out of jealousy
You see, I want my very own CYGOPP
To go to Scottish balls with me

Just a certain young gent of political power
(And I wonder where that power could be...
Gee, I hope when you're saying "My GOPP"
You don't mean the G.O.P.)

Now some may wonder why gop
Has gotten in my hair
There's something about There's Something About Mary...
But let's not go there

And one day as I'm driving up Gower
I would give up my hub caps for free
Make a mess of my ham on rye gop
Which I wouldn't share with my CYGOPP
For he'd let out a loud geshrai "Go-! P-
Lease don't sing me no tune called Why Why Go-? P-
Laying 1000 times in Miss Saigo-- P-
You!   Won't you be...
A certain young lady of promise in love with me."

It's always about money.  They have to cut it down so that it will fit in a particular time slot AND be able to show enough commercials to keep up the TV station's profit margin...artistic integrity be damned.

I just bought the movie this evening ;D and am going to watch bits of it (it's too late to watch the whole thing) before I go to bed.  I think I'm getting a cold and I want to get to bed at a relatively early time (basically any time before 2:00 am is early for me).  I also bought some Dimetapp, so hopefully I can drug the cold out of me.

Whew!!  That did take an hour to read all the posts!

I'll have to be brief and succint right now since I have an understudy rehearsal to run in 11 hours...

Good day.  Long day.  Got up at 7:00, and it felt like I really hadn't gone to bed.  I did hit the snooze alarm once, but I made sure I stayed up - I have this "nightmare" that I'd get up at 11:00 for a Noon matinee... and still be in Richmond... TWO HOURS AWAY!  I took care of some cleaning and sorting of stuff before leaving my apartment, and the drive up to DC was nice and uneventful.  I even made it in time to catch the ChuckWagon that pulls up to the theatre every day.  The guy who runs it, really has some wonderful food on/in it.  And he was in a "discount" mode today - got a nice platefull of penne with broccoli and a nicely-sized hamburger patty for only $4.00 - oh, and a wonderful tamale too!  Yes, I know, carb city...

The matinee went well.  Lots of school "kids".  We could kind of tell that they were told to "behave" at the theatre, and they were very quiet during the first act.  But come the second act, Arthur's and Guenevere's goodbye kiss got a few "oohs" and "ahhs".

In between shows, I hung out with some of the cast members, and actually ended up fixing one of their computers.  *It's scary just how much I do know about computers just from my own experience and trouble-shooting.  And dinner consisted of the rest of my wonderful meal from last night: lamb sausage, polenta, broccoletti and white beans with prosciutto.  YUM!!!!  And sooooo much garlic!

The second show went well too, and the sound department made some great strides with our monitor feeds in the pit.

Oh, and we had four(!) new players in the orchestra today.  They were originally called, but they were playing Bounce at the Kennedy Center, so now that that show is closed...  *And the cute drummer is back.   ;)

-Now I guess I'll find out if anyone in the show reads this board too.

So... I've read the posts... and finally tracked down Juliana's special announcement...

As for dangerous situations...  I've had a few close calls in my car.  One particularly scary occurence was during a freak snow/ice storm a few years ago.  The temperature nose-dived almost 20 degrees in a just under an hour.  I was going out to run an errand... And as I was driving back the way I came, the whole road was one big slick, it was covered in "black ice".  My tires - and no one else's - had any traction.  I even had trouble standing on my own two feet once I got of the car... after my car "hit" the curb.  No real damage, thankfully.  However, I had "stopped" just after going a small hill, and everytime I saw headlights coming over the hill.... YIKES!!  Cars were spinning left and right... And, thankfully, not one car crashed into another one.  It was particularly frightening when a fire truck came by and ended up doing three of four spins right down the street.  I eventually was able to get my car into a nearby parking lot and wait until the salt trucks came by.  Oh, and I had stopped at Taco Bell, so I had some food(?) with me too.

-So much for being brief and succint...

I'm sure I've been in other dangerous situations, but they elude my brain right now.

In other news...

Love the blurbs, bk.  MMm... I sense a special edition dust jacket with blurbs from H/Ks on it....

Well, I really do have to get some sleep.

Goodnight.

For the curious - and there were so many of you NOT.
Yesterday's "Thanksgiving Day" was from "The Good old Bad Old Days" by Bricusse and Newley.

This is one of those "Is this for real?" items of the news.  I was perusing TVGuide.com (which is my wont) and they listed this item:

Quote
STRIKE THAT: An Indiana high school marching band has dropped Michael Jackson's "Thriller" from its songlist for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The band's director told the New York Times that in light of the child molestation allegations facing Jacko, the tune would not be "appropriate for the morals and the ideals and the sense of pride" the parade represents. Instead, the band will play "Smack My Bitch Up" by Prodigy.

Is it just me or doesn't it seem that "Smack My Bitch Up" would ALSO not be "appropriate for the morals and the ideals and the sense of pride" that the Macy's parade represents?  Or is the song a truly wholesome, family-appropriate song that when hearing/reading the title without knowing the entire lyric, might just SEEM inappropriate?  Does anyone know this "Smack..." song?  I don't, but it doesn't sound like anything that I would be interested in.

Well, on that note (H-sharp), I'm off to bed (and hopefully my cold will not get worse).  Night all!

My goodness, it certainly does take a long time to read all the posts after being E&T for all of the day.  Of course, it would have been quicker if I hadn't also been paying quasi-attention to the TV and fixing some dinner at the same time.

Ann: 5-page paper!  I scoff at 5-page papers!
Ann: 20-page papers before!  I scoff at 20-page papers!
Swishy: 30-page paper!  I scoff at 30-page papers!

Why do I do all this scoffing?  Because of the 76-page paper I wrote for my Script Analysis class!

Danger?  I typically avoid danger, so I have no exciting stories to tell.  Best I can offer is doing a 360 across the other lane and finding myself on the opposite shoulder last winter.

Jane, so nice to see you back, safe and sound, at least for the day.

That is something we could shoot for next spring when the weather starts to improve -- A Washington / Oregon HHW Gathering in Portland.  Jed, Ann, George, and I (oh, and Tom from Oz) could come south and the Oregon folks could come north.  I love Portland in the spring.  Well, actually, I love Portland anytime!

Woohoo!  Count me in!  Another Portland lover here.

And, yes, MBarnum, this most certainly includes you, as well as Jane, JMK, and Dennis Clancy (if he's still around these parts), as "the Oregon folks" TCB mentioned!

Isn't going to Leavenworth exciting enough for you Jed - and the tension of waiting for that early morning phone call. What more could you ask of life? Who needs danger anyway? What do you think of TCB's Spring in Portland proposal? I am going to try and make it for 2005 re-run.

Leavenworth is a charming little place, but hardly what I'd call exciting.  Even less so after having lived there.

Colin and I will be in France in October 2004. We considered visiting the NW but now have decided we would rather visit properly rather than a brief three day stop over or such. May thus be a quick NY visit as we don't have to bother with sight seeing - theatre and Hainsies only.  We are thinking of flying to Vancouver and then heading South. By that stage (2005) our flights to the West Coast from Oz will be FREE.

By the way, Jose's interesting photograph is taken about 5 minutes drive from here. I hope he has more than that to remember kangaroos by!
