Well, you've read the notes, you shall now sing The Mucous Of The Night from Phantom of the Opera, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently reciting that classic Noel Coward line "Strange how potent cheap mucous is."
-
And the word of the day is: HICCUP!
-
And a very happy haineshisway.com birthday to JB-NYC, whoever that is.
-
Well, whoever this JB-NYC is, the only two posts that he posted were on November 18, 2003, 12:04:51 PM and January 05, 2004, 10:54:37 AM. Hopefully, he'll pop in and say "hi." But then, he didn't on his birthday last year, so I'm not holding my breath. ;)
-
Otherwise, Happy Birthday, JB-NYC!! :D

There are so may female-female duets that I like:
"Enough Is Enough/No More Tears" by Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer
"The Brotherhood of Man" and "Our Time" sung by Liz and Ann Hampton Callaway
"What You Don't Know About Women" from City of Angels sung by Randy Graff and Kay McClelland
I'll leave it there for now and think about others.
-
I have to sleep now. Goodnight, all.
-
I didn't know Wild Bill well enough to just refer to him by his family name. Mr Hiccup to me.
-
Good morning, all! I'm back to work on the Toyland notes, I also have trip today to my accountant and to midtown for lunch with an old friend. Tonight, I've got a rehearsal with the Men's Chorus so I have an afternoon of taping band parts together.
I had forgotten that Ang Lee directed the THE ICE STORM, the film that BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN mostly brings to mind. There are many similarities between the two. I felt ICE STORM was greatly underappreciated and that Kevin Kline was quite wonderful in it.
TOD:
"Au fond du temple saint" the greatest duet ever for tenor and baritone
Perfect Strangers (DROOD)
Oh Happy We; You Were Dead, You Know; We Are Women (CANDIDE)
Baby, it's Cold Outside
Make a Miracle (WHERE'S CHARLEY?)
-
Hello you all. I'll think about duets-- see which ones start going through my head as I get ready for work. So far, it seems to be starting with, "if Mama QWere Married."
I will admit that Merman dong "Anything You Can Do" (originally with Ray Middleton-- or later with anyone) Is hard to top).
-
TOD:
Perfect Strangers (DROOD)
DR Elmore, I would agree that this song is not only one of the best show tune duets around but also one of the most under appreciated, or perhaps, undiscovered. The track on the DROOD OCR sends shivers up and down my spine whenever I listen to it and I've never understood why no other artist have taken it on. I wonder how it would sound with M/F vocals...
-
Speaking of strangers (and the TOD), I remember liking "I Never Talk To Strangers" with Bette Midler and Tom Waits.
More duets to follow as I recall them. I'm a bit foggy-headed right now--back in the office after a week's vacation in which I was constantly on the go. I don't quite know if I need to rev myself up to get back in the swing of things or if I should look forward to the more relaxed atmosphere of the office. In any case, my 24oz cup of Wawa coffee is doing me just fine.
-
Jason, great shots at the zoo!
If I’m posting with the morning east coasters, means I’m up way too early.
-
Oh darn, we didn’t like THE ICE STORM.
Cillaliz, I found Syriana depressing. I also left feeling bits and pieces still need filling in and left disappointed. I’m glad I saw the movie and found it interesting. What did you think?
-
Good Morning! I just caught up with yesterday's posts. I'm glad to see that BK didn't have to slap any of us after all.
-
The first duet thatpops in my mind is from the original concept album of Chess... "I Know Him So Well" I think it's Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson (Dickenson?) but I'm not really sure....
"A Boy Like That/I Have a Love" from West Side Story by the orignal Broadway Cast Chita Rivera and ?
and also from that same album "One Hand, One Heart" cannot for the life of me tell you the names of the singers
When I was little ( 4, 5 , 6) my dad used to play this album over and over .. he would put it on after I went to bed but I could hear it quite clearly in my room and I loved it.
-
The Youth Group Play last night was hysterically funny.... all the actors, the Vixter included, mugged, over acted and chewed scenery shamelessly
-
Good morning!
Very beautiful but cold day here in North Carolina. No clouds in the sky again, but temp is 41 now and not expected to get out of the 40s today.

Oh, boy, I'm glad you guys remembered "Perfect Strangers." Always been my favorite song from DROOD, and yet had it not been mentioned, I would have probably forgotten it, and it's too beautiful ever to be forgotten.
I also think "Barcelona" is haunting. Someone mentioned "There's Always a Woman" the other day, and that is a great duet.
Berlin: "An Old Fashioned Wedding" and "A Couple of Song and Dance Men."
"Till There Was You" is another I really love.
-
Can anybody tell me what they take when they have a drip in their throat? I've never had this during the day.
At night I usually take sudafed tablets. But that makes me very drowsy and dries out my throat (which i don't need right now cause it makes it hurt).
Thanks.
-
I would really like for THE SPY WHO LOVED ME to come today, but if it doesn't I'll go back to the BATMAN Anthology and pull BATMAN FOREVER for viewing.
-
The TV section in the local newspaper still lists KITCHEN CONFIDENTIAL as coming on tonight with a new episode, but I'm sure that's wrong and the change was decided too late to make a change in the listings.
Fox stated in a press release last week that it would show no more episodes of the show and that reruns of ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT would fill the time slot.
-
DR MattH, the schedule in our paper has 2 ARRESTED DEVLOPMENTS on tonight.

DR MattH, the schedule in our paper has 2 ARRESTED DEVLOPMENTS on tonight.
My on screen cable guide says the same thing.
-
I noticed that MEDIUM is a repeat tonight, and I remember an episode with Chad Lowe as the guest star, but I can't honestly say I remember much about the episode otherwise, so I'm looking forward to seeing it again. Perhaps it was an episode from last spring.
-
Jason I loved those pictures from yesterday.
We really must get to the zoo again, its been too long since we were there.
-
"A Boy Like That/I Have a Love" from West Side Story by the orignal Broadway Cast Chita Rivera and ?
Carol Lawrence. :)
Favorite duet? Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger.
Oh! You meant SONG duets...hehe...
"Hey There," "No More Tears (Enough is Enough)," Emily & Alice doing "I Will Never Leave You," the soprano duet from "Lakme," "O Suave Fanciulla" from LA BOHEME, "Both Sides of the Coin" from DROOD [my cast recording has been M.I.A. for the last 3 or 4 years - that is the correct title of the song, right?], "A Little Priest" and "I Still Believe" from MISS SAIGON.
That's all of them...for now...
-
Thanks for the pictures DRJASON. I wondered if lions and tigers would be out in the snow, but of course they would, it snows in Africa and India!
-
So many lovely duets already mentioned.
But I will add:
PITIFUL PENNILESS BUMS by Mr BK and Brent Barrett - this track is so much fun on so many levels. Loved it from the moment it first started to play!
IT TAKES TWO by Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston. I love the arrangement! And those two voices apart and together make a GREAT record.
WHEN I FIRST SAW YOU from Dreamgirls OBC Ben Harney & Sheryl Lee Ralph
BARCELONA is lovely....had to mention it again!
And in conclusion
Kiki Dee & Elton John singing DON'T GO BREAKIN' MY HEART

My score was 17!

For the life of me I cannot think of anything for the topic O' the Day.
-
Jrand: I was surprised that the lions were out - all the other African animals were keeping warm in their winter homes. :) The rock on which they were resting is heated and the keepers keep it dry and clean with fresh hay. They're big and furry, so they can handle the cold better than, say, a gazelle or giraffe, but you could tell George did NOT like walking on the snow. The tigers, however, love it. The ones at the Bronx Zoo are Siberian tigers, so they're built for such weather. I believe they may have Bengal (Indian) tigers on display in the Wild Asia outdoor section of the park, but that's closed off for the winter.
Sasha, the one whose pic I posted last night, is the male (there are four or five females) and he gets an exhibit all to himself for most of the year. He's 10 feet long from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail and he is absolutely gorgeous. I could sit and watch him all day. Next time anyone's in the City and wants to visit him, let me know!
-
Let's don't forget "Sisters."
-
I got a 16 on your quiz, DR VixMom...does that mean I'm older than dirt?
-
I see Philip Seymour Hoffman has won another Best Actor award for CAPOTE, this time from the N.Y. Film Critics Circle.
Having seen CAPOTE, I'm not at all surprised he's winning these awards though I have yet to see some of the performances he's being selected over. Perhaps in the weeks ahead, I will be able to catch some of them.
-
Interesting - thanks DRJASON.

Yesterday was unbelievable...I was cooking all day and preparing "Santa Claus" for co-workers.
I made a Pumpkin/Walnut Cheesecake, two coconut custard pies, and two sweet potato souffles (9 X 13s).
I prepped 21 "Chinese takout" containers (red and gold) by inserting candy and a Christmas ornament (the Christmas pickle) inside each one and closing the lid. I took them all to my office last night and placed one on each desk. They are individually tagged To: XXX From: Santa.
This morning, I feel yucky. I have taken an Airborne tab and have made a cup of coffee.
I leave here at about 10:30 for the office so I can help set up food.
Even though I don't fly out until Wednesday night, I feel like time is my enemy but I've got many things I want to do and a few things I have to do, and I guess I'm going to have to dump some want-tos so I'm not all stressed. Stress leads to illness this time of year.
Jennifer: About that post-nasal drip -- I take a strong allergen/sinus tab...like Allegra D. I would consult a pharmacist, if I were you, if you do not wish to followup with your doctor after last week's illness.
-
Every now and again, it does a soul good to pick a hiccup by his bootstraps and set him on the road to enlightenment.

Joi Lansing AND John Bromfield....thanks for the pic DR MBARNUM. We know Joi can sing....don't know about John, though.

I told my co-workers Friday that when I come in today, I don't care HOW PITIFUL they attempt to seem, I'm not doing one thing to help them

Jennifer: I take a strong allergen/sinus tab...like Allegra D. I would consult a pharmacist, if I were you, if you do not wish to followup after last week's illness with your doctor.
I was thinking of going back to the same doctor. It's just i've felt fine during the day. So i'm not convinced my throat infection has returned.
I did consult two pharmacists nearby. One said that i should take something like actifed (similar to sudafed). And that would dry out my throat a lot. The problem with that is that when my throat already hurts at night, it sort of aggravates it. But it does make the drip stop. The pharmacist suggested that perhaps it's the sudafed that was making my throat sore (one of the side effects).
The other pharmacist talked to me for a long time. He wasn't convinced i should take sudafed since i had the throat infection and it would make my throat sore. He suggested flonase (which i already have and which i actually tried this morning). And he also suggested otrivin, which i also happen to have. He seems to think that the otrivin will make the drip stop.
I'm not familiar with Allegra D. For sinus meds i have the advil cold and sinus (which i took when i got up) and the sudafed.

"Beauty That Drives a Man Mad" from Sugar/Some Like It Hot. Having performed the song transcribed from the version on the London cast recording, I do prefer that over the original Broadway version. It has some different lyrics and a longer (and I think) better ending.

Well I am leaving in a couple of hours (Vixdad has an afternoon followup appointment with the cardeologist)

D'oh! i forgot all about that one but now I'm hearing it clear as a bell. It is lovely.
What sounds a little so-so is a Rita Coolidge/Rupert Holmes rendition I found on Amazon. It's hard to tell because the clip begins at the mid-point crescendo and it gives no real sense of how the song is working. I have my doubts because Holmes sounds tinny compared to Coolidge's warmth.

I forgot to mention yesterday that I had an epiphany after reading in yesterday's notes about Gnik Gnok--the name of one of my favorite childhood games, Gnip Gnop was Ping Pong spelt backwards.

Okay, so fave duets, hmmm? Well, the first that springs to mind is the tenor/baritone duet from Pearlfishers. Most lovely. If you don't know it, try to find it. Bizet, same guy who did Carmen.

First Act tenor/soprano duet from Lucia.

A quick visit back to say bye and her is the lovely and talented PennyO!!
You can't leave Hawaii yet Penny O!!! I havn't had a chance to "drop by" yet!! : )
-
And I'm moving into a swell loft in the Marina - actually Playa Vista - next week. Haven't even seen it yet, but my sister and her son say it's absolutely gawjus. I'm a one-fifth owner - the others have it as an investment, but it has to be Owner-Occupied... oh, all right, dammit, I'll move in.
-
Hiya Vixmom! don't worry - I'll be back in late January or early Feb - the IAO Theatre is looking for a new Artistic Director... and I'm the only one on the short list... so far...
-
should I actually come to some agreement with the Board, the first thing I would do is hire in BK to do What-If... here. I think it would be so great! And, of course, to save the org some $$$ in royalties, I might ask the lovely and talented (and currently grey-haired) Penny Orloff to do Jewish Thighs...
-
So you think BK could tolerate an expenses-paid couple of weeks on Maui???
-
It's all pie in the sky, anyway, until they actually ASK me... but I'm workin' on it...

Yesterday I was trying to clean things off of my home computer...uninstalling various and sundried software that I never use....unfortunately some items are hard to identify...I swear that they looked like things I had rarely if ever used (in fact the computer would say things like "last used on 12/2/03")...
....now my computer seems to be unable to copy any dvds at all! I keep getting an error message saying something about I am trying to transfer a source file to my destination file and it doesn't like it.
I am an unhappy camper. >:(

That's funny--I was thinking this past weekend how much I dislike him in ADAM'S RIB. (Though I did like him when he was older and curmudgeonly.)
-
Am I wrong, but isn't David Wayne in Richard Lester's under-rated FINDERS KEEPERS and quite wonderful in it, to boot?
I'm back from a fantastic luncheon with my friend Mark Robinson, and now it's back to Toyland for a couple of hours.
DRPennyO, the PEARL FISHERS duet "au fond du temple saint" was my first choice this morning. Another duet I truly love: Lily's Eyes from SECRET GARDEN.

But thanks for the package that arrived today DRELMORE!!! ;D The lovely tunes will be spinning this weekend at World of Wisdom, alternating with Mr BK's BROADWAY CHRISTMAS. ::)

Oh Ron... Pumpkin Walnut cheescake sounds wonderful... care to share the recipe?
I believe I've posted this here before, but there is no time like the present:
Walnut-Pumpkin Cheesecake
Ingredients:
Crust:
1 ½ cups crushed vanilla wafers (about 45 wafers)
½ cup finely chopped walnuts
¼ cup sugar
6 tablespoons melted butter or margarine
In a small bowl, combine all ingredients. Press firmly into bottom and halfway up sides of 10-inch springform pan.
Filling:
3 8-ounce packages of cream cheese, softened
¾ cup sugar
¾ cup brown sugar, firmly packed
5 eggs
¼ cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
1 16-ounce can pumpkin puree (a 15-oz can will work just fine, too).
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
In the large bowl of an electric mixer, cream the cheese and sugars together.
Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat until the mixture is light and fluffy.
Stir in cream, spices and pumpkin.
Pour into prepared cheesecake pan.
Bake for one hour.
Topping:
6 tablespoons margarine or butter
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
(garnish as desired)
While cheesecake is baking, prepare topping.
Place margarine or butter in a large bowl, add brown sugar and cream together.
Stir in walnuts.
When filling is out of oven, gently dot with small pieces of topping, being careful not to deflate the cheesecake. Return cheesecake to the oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
Cool completely, then refrigerate overnight.
Remove springform ring just before serving and garnish as desired.
Yield: At least 12 servings.
-
Well...watching a bit of THE TENDER TRAP... Another actor whose message I just don't get (in fact he irritates me) is David Wayne. whew!
Irritating beyond words...and I've seldom bought into any character he has portrayed because I've never believed any of the other characters would relate to him.
His best performance, IMO, is in "Adam's Rib" BECAUSE his character is so irritating and is meant to be.
Tom Ewell is another actor who affects me the same way. Cannot abide him.

Went to lunch with a friend and had a most surprising and not altogether happy discovery: all of the Media Play stores in the area are closing. The store near where we went to lunch has everything vdieo at 20% off now (and I'm sure after CHristmas this will increase even more). I picked up the newest special edition of TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD which I had skipped over when first released along with a couple of other items. They had all 2006 calendars for 40% off, so I picked up a PEANUTS one for next year.
-
Tried that, but no change. Some paperwork did mention unplugging and then plugging back in some cords, so I will try that and see.

Perhaps we should form a Tom Ewell-David Wayne Non Fan Club.
The fact that Fox saddled Marilyn Monroe with them is astonishing!
-
Never minded David Wayne much in his films though I do think Tom Ewell is an acquired taste.
I agree the point of Wayne's Kip character in ADAM'S RIB is to be an irritating foil for Spencer Tracy.
-
I came back to enjoy the neon-colored comic book land of BATMAN FOREVER. It has a very strong DTS track on the new DVD, and the picture is flawless, of course. I couldn't do a comparison with the old DVD because it's been given away.
-
My used $4 DVD of WAR OF THE WORLDS arrived today.
I liked it. I was afraid that it was going to be Tom Saves the World, but it wasn't like that at all. And I liked the creatures and the spaceships.
So I will say that it was okay!
Dakota Fanning was just SOOOOOOOOO irritating - although I guess her character was supposed to be.
-
DR MATTH - my new RCA Surround System has a place for Digital Sound Input, and so does my PANASONIC DVD player....
But the Digital Sound Output on the DVD player is NOT the same as the input on the Sound System.
Is there such a thing as a cable for that?
-
Right now I am using the DVD Analog input on the Surround System.
-
I have never tried pumpkin cheesecake. Does it taste similar to something i might know?

Vibes for The VixDAD.

While I was at the dermatologist this morning, getting a small portion of my forehead scooped out-I kid you not- scooped, the granite installers called to come a day early. They are here now. I’m thrilled they have begun, except I was using the counter to work on our Christmas cards. Now I don’t have another convenient comfortable space to work at. Tomorrow morning as planned would have been easier, just not as much fun. They will be here all day tomorrow as well.
-
Missed Jane's and BK's birthdays ... shame on me...
LOL-I know when your birthday is ;D
Have a safe and smooth flight!

To the best of my knowledge, no. Optical digital sound (which use a red laser) and coaxial digital sound are two VERY different methods of conveying the digital sound information and totally not compatible.
Both of my DVD players in my home theater offer both optical and coaxial digital outputs, but I'm guessing your DVD player has only one. Until you get a new player, I geus you'll have to use the analog (red-white) outputs and get only DOlby Surround sound.
-
Even with that setup, DR JRand, I'll bet WAR OF THE WORLDS was bone-rattling!
-
So, now BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN has won Best Picture from three groups: Boston, L.A., and NY. It also has a nomination for Best Picture from the Broadcast Film Critics.
Tomorrow is the announcement of the Golden Globe nominations.
-

Yes it was...it gave my $150 system quite a workout.
And I looked again...the player and the receiver both have matching COAXIAL connections. I don't know why I was trying to mix my optical with my coaxial.
-
I am hoping that GNIK GNOK has a matinee showing at the famous Mooresville Movies on Wednesday so that I can see it without a BUNCH of kiddies in the audience. Seeing it with a bunch of grown ups will be difficult enough!
-
Prediction: Memoirs of a Geisha, which is getting terrible buzz and which is simply not supposed to be very good, will be up for many Golden Globes (it may not fare as well at the Academy) - why? Because the GG people are very susceptible to the kind of offensively over-the-top promotion that MOAG is doing - sending kimonos, scripts, CDs, DVDs, and hundreds of other items on a daily basis. The Academy members, on the other hand, I believe have seen through all that crap for the last year or so, and I think it's going to backfire this year.

Oh, so you can have Dolby Digital! Great!
I can hear absolutely no difference in sound between the optical and the coaxial. Some clerks will tell you that optical is a superior surround delivery system, but that's just not true.
-
I had a nice if not terribly fruitful time with Miss Linda Purl. Our next meeting will yield better results.

I think the Academy has a new swag rule that will eliminate a film from consideration if the production company violates what may and may not be sent to voting members.
Supposedly, the Foreign Press instituted some rules of its own when Sharon Stone sent very expensive watches to the 30-50 members of the Association the year she was campaigning for a nomination for THE MUSE. It worked; she got her nomination, but the members were made to send back the watches and a ban was put on "expensive" gifts like that.
Of course, I read that some film, was it GEISHA, sent out a DVD player with the DVD of the film for the members to use to watch the film on.

Did she have her black market baby with her?

Some clerks may be like me! LOL....remember when the tv was considered to be working fine when you had ANY sound and picture that didn't roll? 8)

Yes, the world of TVs is very different today. Frankly, I think buying a new digital set is VERY intimidating for most people if you haven't done any research.
Used to be so easy. Just buy the size that fit your room, hook up an antenna, plug it in, and turn it on. Light-dark, color intensity and hue to adjust, and that was about it.
Now, if you have any any video equipment at all you want to connect, there is a plethora of cables to use and quite a bit of knowledge needed to get things to work.
-
Well, heading down now to clean the dining room. Will probably watch THE DARK CORNER when I finish with BATMAN FOREVER.
WBBL.
-
Irritating beyond words...and I've seldome bought into any character he has portrayed because I've never believed any of the other characters would relate to him.
His best performance, IMO, is in "Adam's Rib" BECAUSE his character is so irritating and is meant to be.
Tom Ewell is another actor who affects me the same way. Cannot abide him.
Didn't David Wayne and Tom Ewell work together in one or more of thoe "UP FRONT" or 'ON THE FRONT" series of comedies at Universal in the early 50s?
-
Yes they did.
And how did the cable switching go?
-
Time for dinner!

Monday greetings! We are back home again from Indiana. I woke up this morning with a sick sinus headache, so we scratched our stop at the City Market and headed on home. After several doses of Tylenol and a lovely pampering at the hairdresser, I'm recovered enough to stop in here and then go out tonight to a craft & talent auction (I'm taking 2 cinnamon pecan coffee cakes for the auction).
Reading the remainder of last night's posts, I must say thank you yet again for more birthday greetings. Would that DR Rodzinski's wish for me come true - even once! And I loved DR Jason's photos.
Speaking of photos, here's the first of mine from Indy - the close-up version of one DR JRand posted Saturday evening:
-
And here's the Indianapolis Soldier's and Sailor's Monument all decked out for Christmas. Hope this shows up:
-
Finally, for DR DearReaderLaura and others who requested cake and ice cream:
-
And how did the cable switching go?
I am still at work. But will try to do it tonight. And hopefully it will work as your Christmas present depends on it! LOL!
-
Back from a bit of Christmas shopping, mostly of the stocking stuffer variety. Very nearly finished!
Vixmom, the music is on its way, probably getting to you around the end of the week.
-

Tomorrow is the announcement of the Golden Globe nominations.
As it turns out, this film is playing an exclusive (one theater) engagement in San Francisco. I am considering going to see it tomorrow.
How I feel when I wake up will determine whether I want to risk "exposing myself" to other folks' germs on the BART (i.e. subway system in the Bay area).
I saw a review of it on TV last night (local TV news) and the response from folks walking out was that it was an overwhelming and devastatingly emotional experience for them.
I could use something like that about now.

The fact that Fox saddled Marilyn Monroe with them is astonishing!
:D
I'm guessing it made her seem more accessible to the "everyday" sort of fellow.
I could "almost" buy him as Jane Froman's first husband in "With A Song in My Heart," but I could never buy him as being a man Susan Hayward would fall in love with.
Gee...she went from David Wayne to Rory Calhoun...go figger! That's an example of indiscriminate taste if ever I've seen it.

Dakota Fanning was just SOOOOOOOOO irritating - although I guess her character was supposed to be.
Except for the bit where she's screaming in the car...that's irritating...I think Fanning's was a wise-beyond-her-years character who strongly relates to her dad and brother. I don't know many young kids her age who would have reacted any better to the horrific situation in the iflm
And Tom Cruise's performance, for me, is emotionally riveting and powerful.
-
Did she have her black market baby with her?
;D
-
DR Elmore, I would agree that this song is not only one of the best show tune duets around but also one of the most under appreciated, or perhaps, undiscovered. The track on the DROOD OCR sends shivers up and down my spine whenever I listen to it and I've never understood why no other artist have taken it on. I wonder how it would sound with M/F vocals...
Rupert and Rita Coolidge did it as a duet on Rita Coolidge's album Delta Lady

Oh darn, we didn’t like THE ICE STORM.
Cillaliz, I found Syriana depressing. I also left feeling bits and pieces still need filling in and left disappointed. I’m glad I saw the movie and found it interesting. What did you think?
I had similar feelings. It is the first movie in ages where I have literally covered my eyes or a minute or so. It was pretty much what I expected, but I agree, it needed some things filled in and could have flowed a lot better
-
Cillaliz, interesting was the pre-film hype Keith read. He warned me it was intellectually challenging and I had to stay attention & follow the movie closely and to expect the pieces to come together at the end of the movie. After that build-up I felt intellectually deficient. ;D
-
Ginny thanks for the photos and the Bill’s Knapp’s chocolate cake. I recall it was very tasty with Haagen-Dazs ice cream. :)
-
I am still at work. But will try to do it tonight. And hopefully it will work as your Christmas present depends on it! LOL!
OMG then by all means - get it fixed!
Great photos, DR GINNY.

I followed it, but I still think it could have flowed better, Paul said he loved it. But there was one story line he just didn't get
-
For me Dakota Fanning was the best thing in WAR OF THE WORLDS.
I liked David Wayne and, while I wasn't drooling, I can understand his appeal.

Never thought of this re:Monroe - but it makes perfect sense.
Your Susan Hayward comments reminds me of the time Susan and some starlet got into a hair pulling fight over the affections of cowboy star Red Barry.
The starlet Jill Jarmyn was of the opinion that she and Barry were engaged, so when she walked in on an intimate moment between Hayward and her "fiance" - the feathers flew, so to speak.
Don Barry later told the newspapers that he had just invited the gals over for a cup of coffee some time, and they happened to come at the same time.
Susan revised her first statement to say that she and Barry were having a casual cup of coffee when Jarmyn burst in a verbally attacked her.
Jarmyn said she had a standing coffee invitation from Barry anytime she was in town.
Marlene Dietrich finally said: "That 'Red' Barry must make some cup of coffee!!"

Well, there ya are! ;D

I thought Dakota gave a fine performance - it was very realistic.....that was my problem.
Little girls in hysterics "set my tith on etch" (as Ricky Ricardo would say.)
-
Finally, for DR DearReaderLaura and others who requested cake and ice cream:
Terrific cake and ice cream! Thanks!
-
I followed it, but I still think it could have flowed better, Paul said he loved it. But there was one story line he just didn't get
My only confusion was with the brothers until I was sure which one was which. We walked out going, what happened with that, or what was the point of that!
-
JRand-LOL
-
Jane, I don't want to give too much away, so I think I'll email more about Syriana
-
I shall now be on my way to rehearsal. We run the end of the act, then move on to act two.
-
Jrand, I know the feeling.
-
I feel so much better today. Living alone I don't get to argue and shout with anyone very often. Well today I had a shouting match with a probation officer that ended when I hung up on him. What a release! I got all inspired and got a bunch of work done. It was great!

LOL-I live with someone and don’t do that very often.
You should have seen the post I didn’t make. Trying to talk about a movie without giving away anything can amount to a bunch of gibberish.

LOL, I know I was trying to do the same thing, that's why I suggested email.

DR Elmore, did you get my email?

I'm back from a very moving evening at the New York City Gay Men's Chorus rehearsal for their Carnegie Hall concert on Wednesday. I'm not sure I can explain it but here goes. Through a lucky fluke involving a cabaret act composed of three members of the Chorus, the music director asked me to do somechoral arrangements and I ended up their staff arranger from 1981-1999. The music director left after 20 years and the new MD and Board decided I was an unnecessary luxury and terminated my contract. This led to four years' estrangement when the next musical director asked me to come back and do several charts. Last year, I did a whole Broadway concert which ended badly because the Chorus pleaded poverty and I made life difficult for them until they finally paid me. I vowed never to work with them again.
This year the original music director was asked to come back, and he called me to come back as well, Tonight's rehearsal was a reunion of people I hadn't seen in years: David Rogers on trumpet, Karen Lindquist on harp, Bruce Doctor on percussion - all people I'd brought in to work on BK's recordings for Varese Sarabande and people I respect as musicians and colleagues. A lot of the music I hadn't heard or thought of in around 1o or more years. They played two glorious pieces by two dear friends and wonderful arrangers - Dean Johnson and Mark Riese - who died far too young from AIDS complications, and a piece of mine for antiphonal choir that I really had no memory of writing but shocked me by how wonderful it was. I've been going through some disillusion with several shallow and rather callow friends lately, and it was a bittersweet reunion tonight. I'm still not sure exactly what my feelings were over being there. It was quite moving and nostalgic and a bit sad. And a bit wonderful.
-
DR Elmore, did you get my email?
Yes, dear, I did. I'm still in a bit of a daze. April sounds lovely and May can be quite beautiful and a bit warmer. I'm glad it arrived.
-
I spent a good chunk of the evening finishing BATMAN FOREVER and then watching all of the documentaries on the second disc in the set. Val Kilmer and Chris O'Donnell both look very different now. Jim Carrey and Nicole Kidman have hardly changed at all. (movie released in 1995).
I have to say I got really tired of Carrey's antics in the film, so over-the-top that he wore out his welcome (something Jack Nicholson didn't do in the first one), but the film otherwise is a pretty enjoyable popcorn movie.
-
SYRIANA is playing at the same nearby theater where I went to see RENT last week, and I've toyed with going to see it at some point this week. Just don't know yet.
-
Since I had less than an hour before MEDIUM came on, I put in the first disc from the second season of GOOD TIMES and watched two episodes. After more than two decades, these shows still make me laugh.
-
Page 6 Lucy Hat Dance!!!
-
MEDIUM was an episode from last spring, and I had almost no memory of it at all. I certainly didn't remember how all the dreams were going to play themselves out.
I was busy with LA CAGE AUX FOLLES last spring, so I guess that's why I have a very vague recollection of this episode.
Really enjoyed it.
-
One of the clearance sale DVDs I bought today at Media Play was THE GLENN MILLER STORY which I will probably watch tomorrow. Haven't seen it in ages, and since Glenn Miller was my favorite big band, I know I'll enjoy seeing this again.
-
Let me tell all of ya--you have NOT cyber shopped until you have spent an entire evening trying to track down a pair of classic short Ugg boots size 10 in black! I need to soak my point-and-click fingers in a hot bath.
-
Early today, der Grampa got the call that the grandlads needed to be rescued from day care, because there was no after-school education today. So we've been away all day, taking care of the lads.
When we got home, there was a phone call waiting for me, asking me to come in early to work tomorrow, adding three extra hours to my schedule. Heck, I'm not going to complain about that; I'm enjoying the job, and we can use the extra bucks.
So I'll have to catch up on everything sometime later. Until then...
-
Guess I'll head down for bed myself.
Good night, everyone!

I cannot picture you wearing those.
Hmmm.
-
I cannot picture you wearing those.
Size 10?
Hmmm.
I have very petite feet for my body size. They're the main reason people think I'm always more tipsy than I actually am at parties.
-
DR Jose: You will be pleased to know I just finished watching "The Joy Luck Club." You have excellent taste in film, my friend.
-
JRand55, 1ClickDVDcopy is now working again. I had inadvertently uninstalled a Poutin drive or something, I think. Either way....I upgraded to the current version of 1clickdvdcopy and it seems to work swell now!
Good thing I upgraded....I was about 20 versions behind! LOL!

Let me get this straight: We have LESS POSTS than a Sunday??? What in tarnation IS going on here? Truly baffling. I shall now go eat some chips and ponder this nauseating situation - I think there were a total of eight posts from the time I left to the time I returned over three hours later.
