So are we having dinner on January 16th at Barrymore's w/DR Ginny, Richard, Larry and possible others? I have a new calendar and I think I forgot to write that in. We are going out to Long Island for the long weekend but will be back early Monday afternoon in time for dinner.
Last night I hastily reported on here that the trapped coal miners in West Virginia were found alive, but that sadly turned out not to be the case with the exception of one sole survivor. I apologize for jumping the gun and posting the news here.
So, when are you going to come into NYC and join us all for a bit of conviviality?
LOL! Great minds DTM!
LOL! If we are thinking alike we are both in trouble!
I woke up with a miserable cold. I took some cold medicine which has effectively stopped the sneezing and coughing and allowed me to breathe freely.... but all I want do is go back to bed. :P
I suppose they would frown on using a sick day on the second day of the year, especially since I am coming off a vacation. :-\
What does "waiver" theatre mean?Instead of applause, the audience stands up and raises their hands in the air, then sits down again. They usually do this starting from the right hand side of the auditorium, and heading left, but on occasion they do it from left to right. It's particularly spectacular when it happend at theater in the round.
The tv was still on when I was stirring around 4am and I heard them saying they had a miscommunication.
Ron seems up rather early. I hope he is not having health issues.
Set not dressed....important component missing until Thursday....my guess is that NONE of the people responsible for getting these things to the theatre are actors. I think EVERYONE should act in a play so they understand exactly WHAT it means to have and to have not!
Last month I mentioned those Shower Smoother tabs that are supposed to clear up nasal congestion. I did finally get around to using one and it did absolutely nothing for me. I got a bit of a whiff of the effervescent fumes but that was about it. I think it would have been effective only if I had gotten down on all fours in the shower and put my face right up to the fizzing tablet. Not a worthwhile product, as far as I'm concerned.
What does "waiver" theatre mean?
I think the opposite is also true--actors should have an opportunity to run lights, sound, build sets, and do props.

there's something evil lurking in my condo.
I Googled this and found part of a discussion. Someone named Brian Lemming added this:
" Here in L.A. we call it 'Equity Waiver' theater. The union Actors Equity allows its members to participate in plays in 99-seat theaters for token payments--gas money, basically, for each performance.
"This system has resulted in a hell of a lot of great theater. (And a play I co-wrote, 'Bat Boy: The Musical', came out of this system--and resulted in high-paying New York performances for two Equity members of the original cast.)
"The Equity Waiver system has also created many more opportunities for actors to practice their craft in front of audiences than would otherwise have existed. It's a great system--and it would be a great disservice to their members if Actors Equity were not to have it. It's good for everybody--playwrights, directors, theaters, audiences."
I just popped in before going to work to say:~~~ VIBES FOR EVERYONE!! ~~~
And Vixmom, a few times, I've mentioned The Barra MacNeils (http://www.barramacneils.com) since seeing a tape of them on New Year's Eve. If you haven't checked out their website yet (they have full-length songs to listen to), you should! I think you'll like them. ;D
Question for Ask Bk Day -
Is "waiver" theater in L.A. (or anywhere else for that matter) different from the "Equity showcase" code in New York?
Thanks! Yes it looks like a group we would enjoy. Looking at their tour info I see that they were in my SIL & MIL's town in November & December and will be in my niece's town in March... (her birthday is in April I wonder if I should get her tickets.) I am going to see if my SIL can pick up a copy of the latest CD for me locally.
JRand55, did I ever send you a copy of the THUNDERBIRDS soundtrack music cd? It is very groovy!
So, the media mis-reported about the mine deaths, did they? What exactly is the story on this? Who did the mis-reporting?
Forgive me for asking, but...what are the Thunderbirds??

Thanks for the health vibes... i am actually feeling better now just very..... very....... sleepy ZZZZZZZZZZZZ
I'm reading a good book called HOLLYWOOD TALKS TURKEY, about notorious film flops. I like it because it is strictly anecdotes and oral histories by actors, producers, writers. People just talking about their worst movies, rather than some critics just ripping stuff apart.
Great Lucille Ball anecdotes by the gal who played Vera Gooch in MAME.
Hello all, good health vibes to everyone. I came home from work this morning and slept for 4 hours. I got up and had some home made chicken vegetable soup. I feel better but not quite there yet. I've very glad I decided to come home. I think I may be able to nip this in the bud
I took my phone off "Do Not Disturb" at 3:58pm. I JUST NOW HUNG UP. It will not stop ringing!!! ARGH!!!
And anyone else "feeling poorly" (a Prissy reference).
Yes Enterprise thought they were on the cutting edge of production - hiring a BIG writer and a couple of BIG stars.... Unfortunately they produced a movie NO ONE was interested in seeing.
I did bring back, however, a book about the Gnostic gospels, purchased at JRand's book shoppe.
A good question is whether I even brought that book back with me from Indiana...
Until JMK just mentioned it, I had completely forgotten that one of my sisters bought me that Kenneth Turan book for Christmas. I wasn't super-excited by it from the list of movies on the back cover though. None of them seemed particularly off the radar.

Spent a great afternoon with THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, and magnificent they were/are.
NetFlix doesn't have OUR MAN IN HAVANA. They do have a wonderful movie, we watched last night, THE MIGHTY. It is a sweet and delightful story of two unusual boys, well played by Elden Henson and Kieran Culkin, who develop an unusual friendship. In some ways it is similar to SIMON BIRCH only far superior, IMHO.
Vixmom, it is a good family film.

Did you read A PRAYER FOR OWEN MEANEY? SIMON BIRCH was "inspired" by it (or something like that) it's the whole story and much better than the movie
No, I won't say I've totally given up on CRIMINAL MINDS (have only seen one episode), but I'll probably watch the next one only if there is nothing else going on when it's broadcast, and, of course, once BONES moves to the 9 p.m. hour, that will give me LOST and VERONICA MARS in that time slot, too.
Then, I watched this week's episode of THE CLOSER which was recorded on Tuesday evening. Another good show, but I'm wondering if the men who work on her team are ever going to accept her expertese with the job and cut her some slack. She's proven she can do great work, but most of them are still treating her like she's poison. Irritating. Maybe one by one they will each start to come around and recognize her as an asset.
Just finished watching the first disc of Season One of "The Greatest American Hero." It makes me laugh, though not as hard as I remembered laughing as a kid... But, gosh! Connie Selleca was a looker!
What is this "Owen Meaney" book? I loved "Simon Birch" - how could I not know about it's source material??
It's hell to be popular, isn't it? ;)
Has it been mentioned that BK's very own Kevin Spirtas will be playing the role of Corny Collins in the Las Vegas company of HAIRSPRAY? If not, it has now!!
Craig's List?
www.craigslist.org
Sort of like your local classified section and personals on the web. It's city-based, and it's popularity has literally sky-rocketed over the past couple of years. And it's still free. Very bare-bones, but useful. Tons of New York City sublets on there.
Thanks for the skinny, skinny! Hmmm.....no Indianapolis listings. 8)
In keeping with the word of the day, a great film is Ken Loach's WAS. It is the sad tale of a poor British boy and his wastrel hawk.Wonderful film - the only time I really needed some subtitles in a UK film I think!!
(I want to nominate this ahead of time for most obscure word of the day pun of 2006.)
