Well, you've read the notes, you now know it's the Wednesday after the Tuesday before the Thursday and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home, which might be on the Monday after the Sunday before the Saturday prior to the Tuesday before the Wednesday - or, the 12th. Of Never.
-
And the word of the day is: VORACIOUS!
-
bk - in your notes you said you must "take the day" - be sure to bring it back. Just today, I told the DP that I was going to take a shower and if he was nice, I'd bring it back. He said "huh?" If you can muster the energy, don't miss the Brokeback Mtn. screening. I know a lot of us are waiting your take on the film. Just bring it back :)
-
Welcome seven GUESTS! We're askin' BK or any dear reader questions. Join in.
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
And, in honor of Pogue's birthday, we shall add sweet gherkins to our repast of cheese slices and ham chunks.
-
A Very Happy HHW Birthday (with sweet gherkins) to our very own Charles Edward Pogue!!
-
Talk about redundancy: I am a voracious reader of cookbooks!
-
Hello, Jed!
-
Happy Birthday, DR Charles Pogue!
-
Up.
Getting liquids.
Dry, dry, dry.
And in the first throes of a full-blown head cold.
I tried not to get it.
Yes, I tried not to.
But here it is.
Truly.
It IS.
And yucky.
-
Good morning, DR Ron!
Cold vibes.
[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~[/move]
-
Still dry.
Parched.
Sere.
My thirst is voracious.
Unquenchable.
And the water just sits there in my stomach.
Sloshing when I move.
Gurgling a bit.
Where is absorption when you need it?
-
Good morning, DR Ron!
Cold vibes.

Good morning, DR S. Woody.
Thanks.

An aside to DR CP:
What can you tell me about a dish known as a Kentucky Hot Brown?
I understand that it is an open-faced sandwich, with roast turkey and bacon served atop toast, all covered with a cheese sauce. Does this sound familiar?

Do I have a fever?
Feed a cold and starve a fever, right?
But the idea of that otherwise delectable sandwich puts me off my feedbag.
My cold doesn't want to be fed.
But my temperature seems okay, too.
Maybe it's the time of day.
-
Or....maybe it's the cheese sauce.
-
I wonder if they mean Velveeta?
(grossing myself out at this point)
-
I should return to bed. I've a late shift today (Lost will have to be taped, I'll be getting home that late), but that's still no excuse for me to be keeping vampire hours.
Fletcher, who is lounging on a bean-bag chair right behind me, sends everyone his love and kisses.
-
Doggie kisses.
That's the ticket.
Good night, S. Woody.
My bed beckons me, as well.
-
I wonder if they mean Velveeta?
(grossing myself out at this point)
Apparently, it's named "Kentucky Hot Brown" after the Brown Hotel in Louisville (not sure, I think that's right). I doubt they would have used that Yankee stuff called Velveeta at an establishment such as that. Southerners do have their standards, after all (Paula Dean not being in the same class).
-
Good morning, all! I missed dinner with DR Ginny and Richard last night, but we plan to catch up on Friday at Artie's. Did anyone mention on HHW that the Second Avenue Deli has closed? They had great food.
Today's Tams-Witmark and THE GOLDEN APPLE orchestra parts, which should be the final instalment on this show, and then it's back here to work on a Jule Styne song "Blame it on my Absent-Minded Heart" for Kelli O'Hara to record on Monday. I hope to have it all finished by tomorrow to turn it in to the copyist and I've got 22 players for the session, which will be fine.[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!DR CHARLES EDWARD POGUE, A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-
Happy Birthday to Mr. Pogue!
Thanks for the pictures Tom/Rod.
I will still be at Jury Duty today. I am in civil court so there will be no sequestering. I went yesterday at 8:45 for "orientation" Since I've done this six times in 20 years I know the drill. It was a bit of a waste.
I arrive today by 9:30am for attendance and then I wait to be called for a panel. If I don't get on a jury today I come back tomorrow (Thursday) and if I don't get put on a jury tomorrow I am done for six years. If I do get put on a jury I am there for the length of the trial. If the trial goes for more than 10 days (highly unlikely in a civil case) I will be released from Jury Duty for 8 years.
In the Jury waiting room I am reading an old (from the 1970s) bio of the Joan Bennett family called The Bennett Playbill written by Miss Bennett with the able assistance of Lois Kibbee (related to the great character actor Guy Kibbee). I also have the newspaper and other reading material.
-
Ginny and Fred I don't think I will be able to join you after the Barbara Cook show on Friday. I don't think I officially mentioned that. I don't want to keep you hanging so make plans without me. Sorry!
-
Here are a few more pictures from Dublin.
The Brazen Head is the oldest operating pub in Ireland. It has been in existence sin 1198!
-
We had no Christmas tree in Dublin so we went to the equivalent of the Dollar Store (the Euro Stretcher and Pound City still called that because Ireland's currency was called the Pound or the Punt until it went on the Euro) and bought cheap decorations and made our mantle look spiffy.
-
This is a picture of me in the living room of our apartment before we left for Christmas luncheon at the North Star Hotel.

BK Question:
What is your favorite thing to do outside the home enviroment to relax?

Lovely pictures of the HHW NYC 2006 Winter Get Together, Part One.
Everyone looks great! What a fine group of internet typers.

Happiest of Birthdays to Mr Charles Edward (The Fly, Hercules) Pogue.
Mr Pogue is the ONLY writer I know (internet-wise) who is on a first name basis with BOTH Mr Harlan Ellison AND Miss June Wilkinson AND appeared onstage with Miss Cyd Charisse!
-
Library vibes to DRJED...sounds promising!
-
DR MATTH - The transfer of ICE STATION ZEBRA seemed fine to me...good color and lots of detail (of course I have been watching it on a tape from TCM for quite awhile). The music sounds wonderful, I have always liked the score - and the 5.1 soundtrack is very nice. I remembered as I watched how much I like ALL of the ambient sound of the submarine when I saw it in CINERAMA, many years ago.
Though it's not a GREAT movie, it is one that I enjoy....and Hudson, Borgnine, Brown, and McGoohan are all very good in their roles. In fact I like everyone except the cross-eyed Russian colonel near the end of the movie!

Page Two June Wilkinson Dance in honor of DR CP's birthday. ;D

So....my first question for ASK BK day:
What were your favorite Comic Book Villains?

Kentucky Hot Brown. :)

[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]! ! ! ! ! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO DR CHARLES POGUE ! ! ! ! ![/move]
-
What can you tell me about a dish known as a Kentucky Hot Brown?
Perhaps she's a relative of Sweet Georgia Brown.
-
We had about three inches of snow which means people are driving one of two ways:
1. Going faster than ever to try out the snow tires.
2. Going ten miles an hour in case they spin out.
-
Perhaps she's a relative of Sweet Georgia Brown.
I hear they are both hot dishes! 8)
DR DtM - thanks for my Date With an Angel....which also had Nancy Kulp and Richard Deacon AND as one of the shoppers, Miss Hazel Pierce who was Lucille Ball's stand in (and an extra) on many episodes of I LOVE LUCY and THE LUCY SHOW and HERE'S LUCY.
-
Elmore and Ginny - Are you having dinner at Artie's on Friday night before the Barbara Cook show?
If so, can I glom on to your reservation before the show (since I was having a little trouble finding a reasonable place for after the show around Lincoln Center anyway).
-
A very happy birthday to DR Charles Pogue.

Happy birthday CP!

For ask BK day:
BK, what is your opinion of the following 3 people as singers, and if they were available to appear in one of your shows what would you want them to sing?
Martha Tilton
Keith Andes
Yvonne De Carlo
-
Many thanks for all the B'day wishes! I also received a lovely E-card from our very own Hisaka. Though I'm getting to the point where I somewhat ignore Birthdays, this one looks to be a pleasant one. Yesterday they began bringing in my library shelves and fitting them to the room. By the end of the week, I should have a completed library and will be able to unpack all the books from their boxes and get them up on the shelves. That will be the best birthday present I could get. I will, of course, post pictures once the library is completed.
Woody, you've pretty much got the history and description of hot brown down. Originated at the Brown Hotel. Turkey, Ham, Bacon, and tomato open-faced on toast or bread, slathered in a cheese sauce (a white cheese sauce, if I remember correctly). I've not had it in years, but I remember liking it. I used to get it at Columbia Steak House up on Limestone in Lexington. I actually almost had it for lunch the other day at the Fava Restaurant on Main Street in downtown Georgetown, but I find it a tad heavy for mid-day. I'm also not just not sure how that cheese sauce would go down these days.
-
Good morning.
I awoke to murky skies and biting temperatures. As the morning as progresed, the clouds have moved out, and the skies are beautifully blue. The temps aren't going much of anywhere, however, and there is a breeze blowing. But the rain which was rpedicted for today might have gotten here last night. No rain in sight today.
-
ENjoyed the additional pictures last night and yours also, DR Ben, this morning.
I especially thought it was very cute to see DR Jose's face poking up between two other DRs. Gave me a hearty laugh.
DR Jason, I believe you have lost some weight, too! You and Jose are going to be our poster boys.

Happy Birthday to Charles E. Pogue!

May he be happy/content in his Old Kentucky Home!

In addition to four hours of episodic television I recorded last night, I also got TCM's screening of Billy Wilder's A FOREIGN AFFAIR. I have never seen this film all the way through, so I am looking forward to seeing it tremendously.
-
How are you feeling at this later hour of the morning, DR Ron? Hope you're a bit better.
-
Elmore and Ginny - Are you having dinner at Artie's on Friday night before the Barbara Cook show?
If so, can I glom on to your reservation before the show (since I was having a little trouble finding a reasonable place for after the show around Lincoln Center anyway).
Absolutely, DR FJL!
My computer access is very limited this week, but I logged on to do just a few things and one of them was to make contact with you about Friday evening. I will send a private message to you with my cell phone number.
-
Thanks, DR JRand, for your take on ICE STATION ZEBRA. I may get it this week since I'm not interested in acquiring anything new that's being released next week.
I was slightly tempted to get TIME TUNNEL, but I can see them for nothing on Encores Mystery Channel, so maybe I'll satisfy my need to see them there rather than forking over the money for a handful of episodes (Only 15 episodes in the set, and they're asking $40 list price for it. Outrageous.).
-
Greetings from Times Square! Well, actually, West 46th St., just off TS.
As you saw in the photos, DH Richard and I made it here in time for the lovely dinner at Barrymore's Monday night.
We spent yesterday at the American Museum of Natural History, had dinner at Sarabeth's Kitchen, and then attended Jonathan Pryce's opening as Lawrence Jameson in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. We had recently watched the movie and thought the musical was a vast improvement.
-
I agree with you, DR Ginny. I thought the original film BEDTIME STORY was pretty lame and the remake DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS didn't make it much better. David Yazbeck's score is just what the doctor ordered to take this trifle and make it entertaining.
-
Now, I must away to the shower to begin preparations for my lunch date.
WBBL.
-
A very happy, Eastern Time Zone birthday to DR Charles Pogue! Be sure to have Graeter's ice cream with your birthday cake!
-
I'm staying home. I'm self-medicating.
I cannot produce sufficient spit to keep my tongue from sticking to the roof of my mouth, but my sinuses aren't draining/running.
It's a rainy day. And my feet are cold.
I need a hot cider and a roaring fire.
-
Continued library employment vibes to DR Jed!
-
Thank you all for the lovely anniversary wishes yesterday. DH Richard and I gave each other this trip as our presents, because when you've been married 25 years you don't need any more stuff.
So, I'm off now to figure out how we're going to spend the first day of our second quarter century of married life. Probably indoors (another museum? Columbus Circle shopping? a matinee?) because it's raining. Tonight we're going to the home of a Michigan friend for dinner.
Bye for now!

Hmmm... Questions....
BK, What has been your most rewarding experience in your long list of accomplishments?
What has been your funniest experience?
For MattH.... Have you ever done Brigadoon?
-
Mmmm....Kentucky Hot Browns are WONDERFUL! My grandmother makes incredible hot browns.
MattH: Thanks for the weight-loss comment. I might have lost a pound or two... :)
-
Oh!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR POGUE!! (I meant to say that in my earlier post, but I'm in a Musinex-induced haze right now).
-
DR Ginny it sounds like you and DH are having a wonderful time in NY for the big 25!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR POGUE!!
I am awaiting the DirectTV installer. Yay!!

Yep, that show seemed to be jam-packed with fun folk.
I seem to be seeing Burt Mustin everytime I watch TV lately. Over the weekend, I caught him in two ALL IN THE FAMILY episodes and on Sunday night, he was sitting in the background during CAT BALLOU.
-
CAT BALLOU is one of those movies I've never sat all the way through. I just get bored with it half way through. Lee Marvin is a hoot, but just not enough of one to keep me hooked.
-
...Woody, you've pretty much got the history and description of hot brown down. Originated at the Brown Hotel. Turkey, Ham, Bacon, and tomato open-faced on toast or bread, slathered in a cheese sauce (a white cheese sauce, if I remember correctly)....
That's what I was forgetting, the tomato! And yes, it's a white cheese sauce, from what I've read.
Apparently Bobby Flay, of NYC restaurant and FoodTV fame, has a version at his newest store where he serves it on French toast. This struck me as gilding the lily.
-
God love Bobby Flay. I've become particularly smitten with Dave Lieberman. He can butter my toast any time. ;)
-
When I re-awoke (little Mikey insisting it was his turn to wash my face) I discovered that it's been raining here in RB. The gullies caused by the rain coming off the roof of the house next door are getting deeper and wider. And I thought the Grand Canyon was bothersome! :P
-
Happy Birthday to Mr. Pogue. May it be filled with much cake and ice cream.
-
DirectTV guy is here and almost done already. HighDef is mere moments away. ;)
I just myself watched Richard Deacon last night in a Leave it to Beaver episode. He was playing a completely different character than the one he played in the pilot with the different Ward, Wally and Harry Shearer. And Edgar Buchanan played a character named Capt. Jack, who owned an alligator farm (don't ask) in another episode. Ah, it was a simpler, stranger time. :)
-
My question is for our Canadian dear readers.
Q: What is the correct term in Canada for black people who live in Canada? African-Canadian?
-
DR Laura: That's an excellent question!! I await a response with bated breath...
-
Good Morning! Good Afternoon! -Wherever you are!
I guess all the festivities on Monday in NYC and all the driving and show-stuff yesterday really tuckered me out. I was in bed last night by 1:00am, and I didn't get out of bed until 12:30pm. Whew!
However, like in DR MattH's environs, there's not a sign of rain and the sun is out. Yes, it's on the "cool" side, but it looks nice.
*And I'm very tempted to bundle up and go for a run in a few. **And after basically three days "off" from working out, I need to do something active today.
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR POGUE!!!
Enjoy your Natal Day in your Old Kentucky Home... with your soon-to-be-completed home library.
:)
-
OH!
And before hitting the road back down to Fairfax yesterday, I bought some NY Lottery tickets... And it turns out I won $50 in the Numbers drawing. It would have been $40, but since it's Bonus Week... Bonus, indeed!
:)
*Of course, I have a feeling that I'm still "behind" when it comes to my lottery "investments", but it's still nice to win from time to time.
-
Where is BK? He should be here answering some of the "Ask BK day" questions!
-
DR RODZINSKI! You will be pleased/horrified/intrigued to know that the USPS is bringing a package to you.
You are aware of ONE of the items, the other THREE are surprises! Delights for the eyes and ears of you and DRTPUNK.
If the USPS is on the ball, they will be in your office Friday....if they are as they usually are....you will get them Monday.
-
God love Bobby Flay. I've become particularly smitten with Dave Lieberman. He can butter my toast any time. ;)
I like him too! *And that slight lisp - at least I think it's a lisp - is very endearing.
:D
And watching his latest show, "Good Deal" is really a good deal. ;)
-And then there's his cookbook, "Young & Hungry"... Hmm... I think I saw a movie with that title... Oh... Nevermind...
;D
:P
-
DR Jason, what are Kentucky Hot browns?
I believe if you check back on Page 1 or 2 of today's posts, you'll fine the answer.
:)
-
HI DEF JMK! The boys will be intrigued I am sure by all the choices they have now....as will you and DW Betsy.
Wait till you see Frances in THIS IS YOUR LIFE on the BIG TV SCREEN!!!
-
BK Question:
What is your favorite thing to do outside the home enviroment to relax?
If there is absolutely no traffic, I enjoy driving to relax. I enjoy used nosing around used bookstores and used CD stores. And I enjoy a nice walk if the weather's fine.
-
...And there are some restaurants in Richmond that make a pretty good Kentucky Hot Brown.
But I do remember having one when I was staying at the classic Galt House in Louisville. That's some good artery-clogging eatin'!
-
Congrats on your lottery win, DRJOSE! That's fifty dollars MORE than I have won in the last 10 years!
-
DR Ron Pulliam - ~~~~~~FEEL BETTER VIBES!~~~~~~~
*And some Gatorade if you have it around the house.
-
So....my first question for ASK BK day:
What were your favorite Comic Book Villains?
I wasn't that in to comic books (except MAD), but I liked that one from Superman, the one with all the letters Mr. Mxyplyk or whatever it was.
-
Food Network's Dave Lieberman.... ;D
-
For ask BK day:
BK, what is your opinion of the following 3 people as singers, and if they were available to appear in one of your shows what would you want them to sing?
Martha Tilton
Keith Andes
Yvonne De Carlo
I only recently discovered Martha Tilton, and I really like her vocal stylings and the film I saw her in (can't remember the title) - I bought a couple of CDs. Love Keith Andes' voice in Wildcat, but that's all I really know of him. Yvonne was always fun and, of course, I love her I'm Still Here.
Don't really know how to answer the rest of the question - I shall think on it.
-
DR Ginny - Sometimes New York City in the rain can a most wonderful thing. It actually makes you go inside all those buildings you normally just admire from the outside.
Have a wonderful day! -And if you can get back to Sarabeth's for Breakfast/Brunch... Highly recommended. They have great oatmeal!
-
I hope no one minds my shilling for a friend, but just wanted to put in a plug for Dear Friend Milla's encore performance of her truly wonderful cabaret show. Skip called it one of the best cabaret shows he's ever seen. This is her press release - the press release a little suggestive (and has a few arguably "single-entendres" :) ) but it's really a wonderful show.
CABARET COURTESAN SEDUCES IN ONE-NIGHT STAND
NIGHTLIFE AWARD FINALIST MILLA ILIEVA
BRINGS HER CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED NEW SHOW
"SO MANY NIGHTS, SO MANY MEN" TO DANNY'S ON VALENTINE'S DAY
Jazz/cabaret sensation Milla Ilieva, a 2006 Nightlife Award finalist (for best female vocalist), brings her critically acclaimed new show "So Many Nights, So Many Men" to Danny's Skylight Room Cabaret, 346 West 46th Street, for a special one-night stand on Valentine's Day, Tuesday February 14 at 7pm. A style-spanning romantic round robin of songs about love -- many rarely heard and some that will knock your clothes off -- "So Many Nights, So Many Men" mixes Broadway ballads, rediscovered theatre comic curios, and a bon bon sampler from the American popular songbook.
"So Many Nights, So Many Men," featuring musical director Paul Trueblood on piano, and directed by Margery Beddow, was called "a saucy new show… a particularly well-crafted act" by the Siegels of TheaterMania.com when it premiered at The Encore in October. Piling on were Peter Filichia (also of TheaterMania.com) who wrote "those planning cabaret acts should be given a conference with Milla Ilieva." Writing in America Oggi, Mario Fratti oozed that "the sexy Milla Ilieva delights us with impassioned and sometimes erotic songs." David Finkle, writing in Backstage.com, claimed that Ilieva "wins hands-down… with effortless effort."
A multifaceted vocalist, Ilieva is as comfortable performing standards as she is singing opera and country western. A five-time bride-to-be (and proud of it!), Ilieva's colorful upbringing includes her formative years as a country girl in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, stints learning the trade at the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins and the Académie Ravel in France, followed by more years of servitude in New York where she was further groomed at The Juilliard School's Professional Studies Program. She is proud of her Russian heritage, and counts among her ancestors a general in the Czar's Imperial Guards (who was not, in the interest of accuracy, a Cossack.)
In "So Many Nights, So Many Men" Ilieva lampoons her apparently insatiable appetite for love as she jumps from songs by composers as varied as Rimsky-Korsakov, Vernon Duke, Jule Styne, Ray Jessel, Harold Arlen, Sondheim, Kander & Ebb, Jacques Urbont, Lionel Bart and Arthur Schwartz. Singing of love's heartbreak, loss, excess, quixotic optimism, and out-and-out-decadence, she wraps the whole affair in dazzling packages that show off her vocal mastery, emotional range and urbane wit. Among the show's juicier musical morsels are songs from the cult classics "All in Love," "Lock Up Your Daughters," and "The Act."
Come to Mama on Valentine's Day -- Tuesday February 14 at 7pm, at Danny's Skylight Room Cabaret, 346 West 46th Street (between 8th & 9th Avenues). The music charge is $20, with a $12 food and drink minimum. A special prix fixe Valentine's Day menu is available for dinner before or after the show. All major credit cards accepted. For reservations call (212) 265-8133.
-
DR FJL - how about a picture of Ms Ilieva? She can be our Page Four Dancer!
-
DRJASON - ya got any Seussical promo stuff laying around there? I got a couple of Playbills from a DR - but I can use anything for the display case. Thanks.
-
Oh the mailman just handed me a box from Oregon....I must investigate!
-
Hmmm... Questions....
BK, What has been your most rewarding experience in your long list of accomplishments?
What has been your funniest experience?
Writing the Kritzer books, I should think. Even though I really loved writing Writer's Block and Rewind, the Kritzer books really were special to write and getting through them and then getting them out in the world was very very rewarding, as was the reaction to them.
Funniest experience - so many, too many. One childhood experience I remember with great fondness (it's recounted in a very different way in the first Kritzer book, I believe - maybe the second, can't remember) is sitting in the Stadium movie theater watching a reissue of The Ten Commandments circa 1959. I was with my best friend and we got the giggles over something early on in the film, and then we just couldn't stop, and for over three hours we sat there howling at every line and scene of The Ten Commandments, whilst the other members of the audience gave us dirty looks and shushed us - until they caught the giggles from us, and then it was just a communal laugh fest.
-
Yesterday, DR Matthew asked:
Dr Jose, be sure and let us West Coast Bay Area people know when you'll be here, perhaps we can have a mini get together.
Well, as of now, here's my schedule - in rough form...
Thursday, January 26:
6:00am (EST) - Leave from Dulles
10:30am (PST) - Arrive in San Francisco
8:00pm (PST) - See Lestat
Friday, January 27:
6:30am (PST) - Leave San Francisco
3:00pm (EST) - Arrive back at Dulles
8:00pm (EST) - Damn Yankees at Arena Stage
Truly a whirlwind trip, but I will have a whole "day" free in San Fran, so... Any and all suggestions and gatherings would be appreciated.
*And I think the "secret" for the whole trip will be to not reset my watch so that I can keep my "head" on East Coast time. -I'll just use my cell phone to keep track of the local time.
-
Dave Lieberman's picture made for a fine Page Four dance, I thought.
But lots about Milla (including pictures) can be found at

DR Jason, I believe you have lost some weight, too! You and Jose are going to be our poster boys.
We're planning on doing a calendar.
Well... We'll at least be the photographers... Shots of New York City, the Bronx Zoo, etc... Stuff like that.

Just checked the weather...
Upper 40's, low 50's... Hmm... I really do want to head out for a run, so...

Happy Birthday to that Rascally Rogue, Charles Pogue!!!!!!!!
Question for you Pogue, by the way. Are you able to pick up WMKV from Cincy over the airwaves where you live now? I guess you don't need to since they do the netcast, but it could come in handy in the automobile.
-
How cool. I'm planning on doing a colander. (Of spaghetti, probably.)
-
Question for BK:
What is this 5-song performance Ms. Purl is doing? Is it as a showcase to book further gigs and so forth, or part of some other event?
-
We're planning on doing a calendar.
Well... We'll at least be the photographers... Shots of New York City, the Bronx Zoo, etc... Stuff like that.
;D
Oh...I thought we were doing the Maria Christine calendar...? Maybe that's next year. ;)
-
Well, it is about time JRand55...that package must have come over on the slow boat...but I do hope you will enjoy the contents!
-
Oh my gosh...for the first time in three weeks, I think I'm actually caught up on all my work!! Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!
I spoke too soon...the phone just went crazy. :-\

Bobby Darin and the DarinAires

DR MBARNUM I am very excited about said box of entertainment. I am not sure where to start, but I am thinking it will be HELL'S BLOODY DEVILS followed by SCANDAL!!

Dory Previn and the DoryAires?
-
DR MBARNUM I am very excited about said box of entertainment. I am not sure where to start, but I am thinking it will be HELL'S BLOODY DEVILS followed by SCANDAL!!
Good choices, good choices! But I am most interested in your thoughts on the two "musicals" that I sent! LOL! I just want to see the look on your face!
-
Oh yes, the "musicals" - Okay I will start with them.
Bruce Kimmel and the KimmelAires.
Although DR SWW, I really like the DoryAires.
-
Question for BK:
What is this 5-song performance Ms. Purl is doing? Is it as a showcase to book further gigs and so forth, or part of some other event?
Yes, it's a twenty-minute "tab" version of stuff from her full two-act one-woman show - for bookers. Every cabaret artist does it.
-
Was it DRFJL who was reading the Bennett book?
Yes, Lois Kibbee had just finished that book when she was contacted by France Farmer to work on her "autobiography" - Lois' (daughter of Roland, niece of Guy) account of their time together is VERY interesting.
Lois was great on THE EDGE OF NIGHT!!
-
Richard Deacon was, of course, Fred Rutherford on LEAVE IT TO BEAVER, father of Clarence aka Lumpy.
BUT - what was his wife's name?
-
Leave It To Beaver Page Five Dance.

Hello!
All caught up!
-
Before the sermon today, brothers and sisters, please enjoy "Is It Me, Lord?" sung by the RandallAires!
-
Rodzinski, you know I haven't tried to pick up WMKV via the airwaves on any of my radios here yet. I know in rental cars I've had when visiting here the station seemed to die out about 35-40 miles down the road from Cincy. We're about 70 miles from Cincy. But I should try. Coming into town the car radio on my Caravan was picking up Chicago, St. Louis, Philadelphia, so who knows.
Of course, I just usually click it on the computer first thing in the morning and it's on most of the day...unless I'm listening to the BBC. What I do miss is that the best continuous music on the station seemed to come on around eleven/twelve at night until early in the morning. That was great back in LA because I got terrific music with almost no breaks throughout the earlier evening hours until I went to bed. Here I'm usually in bed by one or so...so I'm missing a lot of good stuff.

DR GEORGE put up in a box, tie up with a ribbon, and throw up in the deep blue sea....
As sung by Doris Day and the DayAires
-
Morris, an elderly man, went to the doctor to get a physical. A few days later the doctor saw Morris walking down the street with a gorgeous young woman on his arm.
A couple of days later the doctor spoke to Morris and said, "You're really doing great, aren't you?"
Morris replied, "Just doing what you said, Doc: 'Get a hot mamma and be cheerful.'"
The doctor said, "I didn't say that. I said, 'You've got a heart murmur. Be careful.'"
-
A little old man shuffled slowly into an ice cream parlor and pulled himself slowly, painfully, up onto a stool. After catching his breath he ordered a banana split.
The waitress asked kindly, "Crushed nuts?"
"No," he replied, "arthritis".

My God how many phone calls did that woman make?
-
No one knows Fred Rutherford's wife's name?
-
Burt Mustin told a joke that made Johnny Carson laugh harder than I ever remember him laughing.
A guy was ice fishing and not catching anything. He moved down beside a small boy who had a large basket of fish. He asked the boy what his secret was....and the boy mumbled an answer. The man asked again, and again the boy mumbled. Finally the man said: "What is YOUR secret."
The boy spit out a mouthful of worms and said: "Keep your bait warm."
-
No one knows Fred Rutherford's wife's name?
Mrs. Rutherford?
-
An older couple decide to go to the doctor for a checkup. The doctor tells them that they're physically okay, but they might want to start writing things down to help them remember. Later that night while watching TV, the old man gets up from his chair.
His wife asks, "Where are you going?"
"To the kitchen" he replies.
"Will you get me a bowl of ice cream?"
"Sure."
"Don't you think you should write it down so you can remember it?" she asks.
"No, I can remember it."
"Well, I'd like some strawberries on top, too. You'd better write it down because you know you'll forget it."
He says, "I can remember that. You want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries."
"I'd also like whipped cream. I'm certain you'll forget that, so you'd better write it down" she retorts.
Irritated, he says, "I don't need to write it down, I can remember it. Leave me alone. Ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream. I got it, for goodness sake."
Then he grumbles into the kitchen. After about 20 minutes the old man returns from the kitchen and hands his wife a plate of bacon and eggs.
She stares at the plate for a moment and says -
"I knew you'd forget the toast!"
-
DR Laura: That's an excellent question!! I await a response with bated breath...
Since I refuse to consider myself a Euro-American, I hope it's not the humongous concern it appears to be here. Perhaps they're just "Canadians" or, even better, "people."
-
Mrs. Rutherford?
Good guess, partially correct! 8)
-
I shall shortly be on my way to lunch with Miss Tammy Minoff at my beloved Musso and Frank, after which I shall return.
-
DR Elmore: It's really of no concern to me. It's just one of those little trivia tidbits that is sometimes pondered. People is people. That's how I see it...I just found it to be an interesting question. Sorry if you were offended by my curiosity.
-
What no Seussical swag?
-
He's back!
-
Jack: I haven't been able to find much of anything that's SEUSSICAL-related. We don't really have a whole lot of promo stuff - just CDs. Sorry... :-\
-
That's okay! But after all you are THE SOURCE! :)
I bought a book that I thought was ABOUT the show, turned out to be a vocal selections book, but that's okay, too. People will be screaming for that before auditions!
-
Now I am going to watch a movie called Sinderella and the Golden Bra.
-
He's back!
HOO and RAY!!
and thanks for my calender!! :-* I am right now lookig at the Sydney Opera House
(this is as close to it as I will proabably ever get!)
How was your trip?
-
Now I am going to watch a movie called Sinderella and the Golden Bra.
On purpose?! :o
;D
-
I've not caught up DR JRAnd but there was certainly a large article etc in one of the Show Music magazines re "Seusical". I still think the show should have won best score in its year -- IMHO way ahead of the enjoyable but not brilliant score for "The Producers"
-
On purpose?! :o
In my case "on porpoise!"
More later. I'm not awake enough yet. 13 hour drive yesterday.
;D
-
For MattH.... Have you ever done Brigadoon?
No, I haven't, but I love the show and have always wanted to play Jeff even though he doesn't have any songs of his own.
-
Enjoy your movie JRand55, and please forgive me ;D
-
My lunch date went great, and we had a wonderful time talking movies. He's a big movie buff, loves classic films, and is a big fan of cheesy 50s sci-fi, so he'd fit right in here with DRs JRand and MBarnum among others.
He's coming over Saturday afternoon to watch a DVD or two. Looking forward to that!

I remember that! That became one of my favorite jokes! I never knew that that man was Burt Mustin.
You learn something new everyday!

Once I got in, I started by finishing the CSI: MIAMI episode I started yesterday about pirating. The story turned out to be more about ethnic cleansing and was a nasty piece of goods all around - riveting drama.

Next switched to last night's LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT. A newborn baby was found thrown out with the garbage, and that was just the beginning of an eye-opening story concerning genius, madness, and incest. Among the guest stars was Zeljko Ivanek, a favorite actor of mine.
-
Creature from the Black Lagoon

He's back!
And he brought a date! :)

Is he a buff movie buff?
I'd say so. He's half an inch taller than I am and somewhat stockier in his upper torso.

Making friends
-
Great pic, DR Tom!
-
I'm interested in the Canadian answer as well. I once wrote a piece for a hockey publication, and it was about the first black man to play in the NHL (Willie O'Ree). A PC editrix changed it to "African-American" even though the guy was born and raised in Canada, so that change peeved me. But I don't know what the "right" answer is.
-
Welcome back to our new Mike Nelson!
-
Hello DTM. I've given up on kissing frogs. A change!!
-
Welcome back Tom!
-
Next I watched THE SHIELD also from last night. A compelling cop serial that gets better with each passing season. IAB is hot on the trail of semi-dirty cop Vic Mackey, and now they're wiring a member of his strike team to try to get the goods on him.
-
DR Elmore: It's really of no concern to me. It's just one of those little trivia tidbits that is sometimes pondered. People is people. That's how I see it...I just found it to be an interesting question. Sorry if you were offended by my curiosity.
DRJason, I wasn't offended at all! I just got on my political soapbox again. I see DRvixmom turned tail and ran. I find it fascinating that there's such a need to exert this awareness among certan ethnicities. What about Native Americans or Asian Americans? What are they considered in Canada?
I have no idea if my ancestors were sent to this country through a desire to relocate or that great form of capital punishment, deportation, possibly even a form of slavery called indentured, but I, like probably everyone calling themselves Afro-American, was born here, and my family - just as most of theirs - has been here a long time. I don't think of myself as Euro-American or White American or Caucasian American. Now we'll see what a can of worms I've opened!
-
Great pictures, Tomovoz!! ;D
-
I would assume the Canadian answer to be African Americans. Canada is in America!! As is Mexico etc!!
There appears to be an assumption that the USA is America!!
-
Still have THE CLOSER from last night to watch. Since I may pass on the next night of AMERICAN IDOL auditions, 8 p.m. would be the perfect time to watch that leading right into a new LOST episode.
-
Hello DTM. I've given up on kissing frogs. A change!!
It's about time you got back! You were missed.
-
Of course, I blame DR Jose.
-
Yes, I long for the day when we're all just people and thought of as ONLY that, without regard to any other aspects of our lives be it spirituality, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or anything else.
-
Thanks DR George. I guess the Dolphin added some cuteness! Cute also was a card I received when I returned home yesterday.. LOL.
Hello Rodzinski. I trust you've kept the pop flag flying.
-
VERONICA MARS is a repeat tonight, and that's helpful since the local UPN station is again showing pro basketball during prime time and relegating VERONICA MARS to 11 :35 p.m.
-
The Dolphin blamed Jose too DR Elmore. Thanks.
DR François is away for the next few weeks I think.
-
I am envious of you TomovOz!
We don't have any dolphins here, but when you come to Oregon you can swim with the beavers, I guess.
-
I have much catching up to do - and not just with the NET and HHW. I'll be back later no doubt.
-
I would assume the Canadian answer to be African Americans. Canada is in America!! As is Mexico etc!!
There appears to be an assumption that the USA is America!!
That's what's comical about the political correctness. The "Africa" in " African-American"doesn't really include a white person from South Africa, or even Egyptian folk. And the "America" doesn't really include South America or the rest of America.
My curiosity is not to be taken as support of the term; I just wonder what term people are "supposed" or "expected" to use in Canada.
-
I am envious of you TomovOz!
We don't have any dolphins here, but when you come to Oregon you can swim with the beavers, I guess.
A comment was certainly in my head - but no - taste prevailed.
-
I am of the same mind Rodzinski...and no matter what any ethnicity or orientation is referred to now it will be considered vulgar in 20 years and a new term will be coined, or an old term reinstated.
-
Well, JRand55 should be about half-way through the 1963, made-in-Florida feature film SINDERELLA AND THE GOLDEN BRA...which is the first nudie musical!
Hope he is still on speaking terms with me.
-
I am of the same mind Rodzinski...and no matter what any ethnicity or orientation is referred to now it will be considered vulgar in 20 years and a new term will be coined, or an old term reinstated.
Funny you should bring this up. I was at Wendy's today on my lunchbreak (I needed a Frosty) and all these kids were standing on line waiting to be served, talking and being rambunctious as teens are wont to do. As I eavesdropped, I was suddenly dumbstruck at the number of times one of the boys used the word "nigger" as a reference to his fellow black friends. Having grown up in a "modern" southern home, I always tend to tense up when I hear that word - it's got a horrible connotation to it - and it made me wonder what his grandmother might say if she heard him saying "my nigger" this and "that nigger" that. I suspect she wouldn't take the word so lightly...
-
. I see DRvixmom turned tail and ran.
I couldn't figure out what you meant so I went back to look and discovered that when I was "modifying" my post I actually "deleted" it, so let me reiterate
"BRAVO!" :D (original post)
and here is the modification, let's see if I can get it to post this time
I don"t understand the need for everyone in my neighborhood to identify themselves as Irish or Italian etc when they were born here and their parents were born here... now my new next door neighbors are Indian... they were born and raised there, my husband is English, again , a newcomer to these shores... but despite having three of my four grandparents born abroad, I am an American.
Also, the need for the PC press to call everyone with black skin an African American must annoy the hell out of the Jamaicans!
;D :-*
-
I can understand the concept of people "taking back" the word, taking away its power by using it in a way of their choosing, demystifying it even, through constant use. But it definitely makes me ill-at-ease to hear it.
-
Must head down now to do the cleaning chore of the day and will then begin a marathon night of TV watching.
WBBL.
-
My curiosity is not to be taken as support of the term; I just wonder what term people are "supposed" or "expected" to use in Canada.
I'm just curious. That's all.
DR TomovOz, what is the term in Australia?
-
We probably say Black Americans! For People of African descent living in Australia - Australians of African origin. As with Australians of Mediterranean or Middle Eastern origin. I don't think anyone takes that much notice. It is such a melting pot here. Vietnamese Australians, Chinese Australians, Irish Australians, Greek Australians, Iraqi Australians. For the most part, multi culturalism is encouraged and works well. Certainly in the Schools in which I taught, ethnicity and nationality were rarely issues of any significance. Religious differences seem to be divisive issue in more recent years.
Our own indiginous people in this state prefer to be called Kouri people rather than Aboriginal.
-
Remember, DR RLP:
Through meditative techniques, one can free the mind of delusions and attain what we call enlightenment. The Dalai Lama
That, and torrid sex. :o
-
Well, I don't care what you call me as long as it ain't late to dinner!
-
I wonder if JRand55 has moved on to GOLDILOCKS AND THE 3 BARES (1964)?
-
Well, what started as a routine and easy DirectTV installation turned into the afternoon from hell as I attempted to configure it correctly to my HDTV and VCR/DVD combo unit. The installer it turns out had his head fairly far up his rectal cavity and had left me with a completely misinstalled system (not the dish itself, just the way the box was hooked up to the TV). But I got a great African American ( ;D) lady named Martika, who lived in Oklahoma (we had a looooong phone call, got to know each other quite well, LOL) and together we figured it out. It turns out I am only the 2nd person in the nation to get their brand new upgraded HD receiver, which is MPEG4 or somesuch verbiage. And it took awhile to work through all the menus, which were new to her and most defnitely new to me. But I finally have hundreds of channels, many of which are in HD.
I was so bothered by the installer's incompetence that I actually got up on the roof (ooh, a Carole King reference) to check to make sure he had at least bolted the dish in firmly. Which he had. ;D
-
Here's to the incredibly luscious Evangeline Lilly (sp?) in HD. Mmm, mmm good. ;)
-
Had a lovelier than lovely luncheon with our very own Miss Tammy Minoff. Very yummilicious and the conversation was ever so sparkling and interesting.
-
Good Evening!
Greetings from the Green Room!
And it's Dollar Wednesday!
-Vibes, please. I'll explain later.
;D
-
...You know those people who you shake your head at... They're outside running in the cold weather, while you're sitting in the warmth of your vehicle... Well...
I believe I saw some people shaking their heads at me this afternoon.
;)
-
Otherwise, it was a great run. About 3.2 miles in 30 minutes. Yes, it was on the cool side and breezy(!), but I had bundled up appropriately to protect me from the elements. I ended up running around Hains Point - a place I haven't been to in years. At the "point" of Hains Point, there a wonderful sculpture, "The Awakening". -And I haven't seen that in years either. But it sure was great to see it today.
:)
-
...And during my drive to Whole Foods after my run, I started thinking...
Hmmm...
If I run three times a week...
Two three mile runs, one five mile run...
Then increase my mileage every couple of weeks...
I think I could be ready by November 6 for...
The ING New York City Marathon (http://www.ingnycmarathon.org/home/index.php)
Hmm...
I've had crazier thoughts... And, what's really crazy, is that I don't think it's that crazy.
We shall see...
It's a goal.
-
Well... Just got the Five Minute Call... So..
Laters...
-
Welcome back, DR Tomovoz!
-And wonderful pics too!
:)
-
Vibes DR Jose.
-
My question is for our Canadian dear readers.
Q: What is the correct term in Canada for black people who live in Canada? African-Canadian?
Don't forget that Canada is still part of North AMERICA. So we can still call them
African Americans. But we never called them slaves.
-
Thank you for your answer, DR Tom.
-
I guess Tom beat me to the punch.
But have been raised in Canada I never understood the labels. Still don't. People are people.
-
Thank you all for the lovely anniversary wishes yesterday.
LOL! I thought your post said, "So, I'm off now to figure out how we're going to spend the second quarter century of married life. Probably indoors..."
-
I've seen a few Canadian shows where they've referred to "black" people but I've never heard anyone referred to as "African-American" or "African-Canadian" on Canadian TV...so far. But then I only get CBC and I don't watch it very much.

Wow! That took a while to catch up!
Happy Birthday DR Pogue!! I'd love to see photos of your library once it's all set up.
-
If I haven't said so, Happy Anniversary DR Ginny and DH Richard, how is the Comfort Inn?
-
AHHHH! I just wrote a long post about how stressed I got today over having too much to try to organize for the move all at once and guess what....the board kicked me off and the post was lost. It made me laugh. I guess this isn't my day....think I'll go get some chocolate chip ice cream
-
Oh, I have to watch Skating with the Celebrities tonight. Sort of like NASCAR, I'm only watching to see the crashes (and no, I don't watch NASCAR)
-
I was going to go see Brokeback tonight, until I got a call from someone reminding me that I'm going to the Gardenia to see Kristopher McDowell, whom I know little about.
-
Charles Pogue, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
I hope you had a grand day in your beautiful Kentucky.
-
Thanks again to all and sundry for the B'day wishes. Just got off the phone with Mr. BK, our genial host, who called to to extend felicitations and we had a loverly, loverly chat.
-
For Pogue, the album cover of the night is this nice Bea Wain collection I got at the WFMU record fair.

UNBELIEVABLY CLASSIC REXELLA MOMENT: I am madly channel surfing through my hundreds of DirectTV choices and paused for a moment on Jack and Rexella. Rexella was finishing her pitch for this week's "love offering" (see previous post a few days ago), a wonderful video about what's going to happen after the Rapture. So, I kid you not, this is more or less an exact quote of hers as she held up the DVD:
"I am so excited about this. If you are wondering what will happen, you need to get this, point to it."
Yes, indeedy, she read the "stage directions" right off the prompter. But at least she pointed as she said it. G-d bless her addled little mind. :)
-

I was going to go see Brokeback tonight, until I got a call from someone reminding me that I'm going to the Gardenia to see Kristopher McDowell, whom I know little about.
I've heard a few songs by him (not a whole CD, though). He has a nice voice and (I know this doesn't matter to you, BK) he's nice to look at. ;)
Here's his website: http://www.kristophermcdowell.com/

My Reverie is one of my all-time favorite classic tunes from the swing era. My Mom had it on a compilation LP when I was a kid and I constantly played it, along with another tune on that comp, And the Angels Sing.

GREAT pics, DRTOMovOZ...thanks so much for sharing. Looks like everyone, including the dolphin had a great time. Any pics of Colin?
DRJOSE - what, I am horrified to ask - is Dollar Wednesday?

Well, ladies & gentlemen, Sinderella and the Golden Bra was pretty much what you might think it would be, except there were many pairs of teles on view as the maidens of the village all tried on the title garment while Prince David was searching for his princess. Oh and there were songs whose lyrics paid little attention to meter....
Followed by GOLDILOCKS AND THE THREE BARES - I listened to the commentary on this film in which they declared this was the First Nudie Musical - and rated MR BK'S film as a later Major Market-Studio film.....not sure if they even ever saw it. The producer of the film was on the commentary track and he was very funny. There were naked people swimming, naked people water skiing, naked people playing musical instruments, AND naked people riding horses....
-
Matt H glad your lunch date when well.
Belated Anniversary wishes to Ginny and DR Richard. Twenty-five years and still happy.
Tomovoz, the photo of you and the dolphin is so sweet.
-
Awesome Rexella story!
-
Now, I don't want to alarm anyone - not even Jack and Rexella (but JMK this may be on their next broadcast, and now that you have ALL the stations in the world you can see it) - but -
The Nazis are meeting in bunds in Florida and financing the return to power of the Master Race by counterfeiting $20 bills from plates made during WWII...AND they are using a motorcycle gang called Hell's Bloody Devils to overthrow the US government.
I just thought you should know!

DR MATTH - ask your new beau to name three Allison Hayes films - if he can do that, he is a MASTER B-film fan. AND if he has read my internet bio of Allison - marry the man today.

NOr have I. I have rellies on both sides of the borders and they are sometimes referred to as African-Canadians also. My cuz who lives in Saskatoon has also called the African-Americans. She also said some influences on labels comes from American media... I just got her email and I thought I would share....
-
A major market studio film, eh? How about that The First Nudie Musical was the first GOOD nudie musical?
-
Almost time for a NEW Pwoject Wunway!!!
-
DR JRand. Colin was 1600 kilometres away!
That would have take SOME lens!!! ;D

After seeing BOTH Sinderella AND Goldilocks - I am not going to debate that! 8)

He was the ex-boyfriend of the guy who started Jerome records by stealing money. He had his cd debut on that label.
DR Elmoore did orchestration for the album

Well, I am now going to eat some dinner and watch a movie that just arrived today via Netflix titled CALAMARI WRESTLER...yes, it is about a giant, man sized squid who becomes a famous wrestler in Japan.
I know you don't believe me so here is the front cover of the DVD box to prove it!

They don't call me the King of Kulture for nothing, you know.

Oh...is that what they're calling you, these days??
;)

I am intrigued. :o
-
When it comes to Kulture, we're the first hogs to the trough.
-
You got that right! ;D
-
It's past time for me to leave work, so later. Off to forage for some food. :)
-
I think I have a movie to watch, unfortunately it doesn't have a wrestling calimari in it!
-
Come to me, my calamari wrestler.
Cuddle up and don't be blue.
-
Calamari wrestler, you got me on the go
Calamari wrestler, I'm all aquiver
Calamari wrestler, the ref he wants to know
Why I'm on the floor now without a liver
-
Project Runway viewers...Make sure to post SPOILER warnings if you discuss because it looks like TPunk is getting home late and we ain't even gonna get to watch tonight's episode I recorded until tomorrow. :(
Thanks!
-
Thank you DtM and FJL. Now I know I'm home
-
At the supermarket tonight, I picked up a copy of the new TV Guide, primarily because of a nifty picture of Matthew Fox on the cover. What a piece of crap this once favorite magazine has become! There is not one substantial paragraph in the entire rag and it has the ugliest layout I've ever seen in a major publication. Tiger Beat would have looked like The New Yorker in comparison. Oh, it is so bad!
-
Dry those big brown eyes and smile, dear,
Banish all those tears and please don't sigh.
Kiss me once again and hold me;
Calamari Rose, goodbye!
(sniff)
-
I've heard a few songs by him (not a whole CD, though). He has a nice voice and (I know this doesn't matter to you, BK) he's nice to look at. ;)
Here's his website: http://www.kristophermcdowell.com/
I did his CD for the late Jerome Records. I like Kris.

Welcome to the Wonderful World of High Definition, DR JMK. Sorry the install was a nightmare, but all that will be forgotten once you start enjoying all that great HD programming.
-
Thanks, DR Jane.
DR JRand, I will try to remember to ask him about Allison Hayes. That will be a HUGE litmus test for his B-movie knowledge. Of course, not being the fan of hers as you are, I won't be devastated if he's not very familiar with her.
-
Calamari, calamari, calamari, let him go
Be still now, I will not let you go,
Let him go
Calamari! Calamari!
Maybe that one's too obscure, but the lyric seems to fit the photo. :)
-
JRand55, I think you would dig this squid movie! It is pretty funny..and played totally straight, like it was not at all unusual for a 8 ft tall squid to be shopping in downtown Tokyo.
-
Much to my surprise, I got my Amazon package today as scheduled. Sad to say, I didn't get to SUPERMAN - Season 2 at all as I continued watching CSI: MIAMI. Great episode on the DVD set tonight.
-
I wouldn't even date someone who didn't know who Allison Hayes was.
-
A bit Bohemian me thinks FJL
-
All the leaves are brown and the sky is gray
I've been for a walk on a winter's day
I'd be safe and warm if I was in L.A.
Calamari wrestlin' on such a winter's day.
BK, do you think Linda Purl could use a medley in her act?
-
Don't throw Miss Hayes at me
Don't praise her flicks too much
Don't post all her pics too much
People will say you're in love
-
LOST had an exciting and moving episode tonight about love and loss and with some tense moments as well. Great show!
-
Up close and personal
-
Squids!
I don't know what's up with these squids today.
Squids!
Who would guess that they'd pin you down that way?
What can't they fight like we did
What's wrong with Sugar Ray
What's the matter with squids today?
-
Rodzinski, MY REVERIE is my wife's and my song! It is really the only version of the song I know (other than the Ravel original that it is based on).
-
Good Evening!
Well... Dollar Wednesday...
Each Wednesday, stage management puts out The Dollar Wednesday Box. Each person who wishes to play that week writes his/her name on a dollar bill(s). At intermission, the winner of the previous week's drawing, draws one dollar bill out of the box. Whoever's bill/name gets drawn is the winner. And he/she wins the whole kit and kaboodle.
Lately, the average kitty has been around $40. Not too bad.
Alas, I did now win tonight. -I've never won. However, Matt Bogart did, so that was nice. *We've already had one repeat winner so far in this run. Must be fixed. ;)
-
Page 10 Dwarf Nose Dance!!!
-
...And on closing night, we sometimes do a "Five Dollar Sunday" drawing.
-
I wouldn't even date someone who didn't know who Allison Hayes was.
Well...
-There are just too, too many ways to respond to this post.
;D
-
Well, here's one...
I wouldn't even date someone who didn't know who Allison Hayes was.
Personally?
;D
-
INVASION had another ultra creepy episode with Sheriff Tom acting irrationally and unsettling things happening to our heroes.
The show has not been performing that well in the ratings given its monster lead-in from LOST, so this may be its only season. Will hate to give it up if it is only a one season show.
-
I'm laughing FJL. Difficult for me to do as I"m trying to do my Alan Ladd impression. No I'm not standing on a box. I suspect Dolphins eat squid. Is the collective noun squad?
-
And here's another one...
I wouldn't even date someone who didn't know who Allison Hayes was.
Well, at least you know who Patti LuPone and Jennifer Holliday are now.
:)
-
Jose - I think I heard that Matt Bogart got his Equity card on Skip's show BLANCO at Goodspeed - OMG, is that really 16 years ago?
-
...And we had a good show tonight too. However, during the second act, one of the scrollers started going "crazy"... fff-fft-ff-fft-ffffft-ffftt-ffttt (or something like that)... Of course, it was most prominent during the quiet moments. Ah, well... But it eventually stopped sometime during "Good Old Days".
-
Jose - I think I heard that Matt Bogart got his Equity card on Skip's show BLANCO at Goodspeed - OMG, is that really 16 years ago?
Blanco!?!?! With Joe Kolinski?
-
And I have to say that one of my favorite dishes at Legal Seafoods is their Thai-style calamari.
*I'm not even going to attempt a lyric.
-
I have far too few dates as it is to eliminate anyone because they don't know Allison Hayes, Stephen SOndheim, or Helen Hayes, for that matter.
It's called desperation! :D
-
Having lunch tomorrow with best friend John. That should be a more leisurely meal.
-
Question for Ask BK Day...
So, would closing weekend be a good time to come out to LA and see Deceit?
I've started checking out flights, and they're not too bad right now. Right now, I'm thinking Thursday-Tuesday. Strangely enough, the JetBlue flights seem to be running the highest. And I'm intrigued by United's new "p.s." service which promises an unparalleled flight experience on select trans-continental flights (more legroom, better meals, etc.).
We shall see...
-Oh, and the dates I'm looking at are Feb 16-21.
-
Joe Kolinski wasn't in it at Goodspeed, although Joe did play Blanco in one incarnation. Bill Parry played Blanco at Goodspeed. (And both Joe Kolinski and Bill Parry starred in Last Starfighter.)
-
And I believe Bill Parry is headed for Arena Stage soon to be in The Rainmaker, so everything fits together in degrees of separation.
-
Thank you, DR Tomovoz, I'm here all week. (Except when I'm at the office, that is.)
-

OK. When I was at Vassar this past summer for New York Stage & Film, Joe mentioned Blanco. Good guy. -And a favorite person of DR elmore too.
-
And I'll be sure to ask Matt about Blanco and his Equity card tomorrow.
-
Off to bed now. It's been a long day (a HOW TO SUCCEED reference).
Good night, all!
-
And I believe Bill Parry is headed for Arena Stage soon to be in The Rainmaker, so everything fits together in degrees of separation.
Ah, Bill Parry. Love that voice! -Both when he speaks and sings.
-
Joe Kolinski was in Skip's show Time and Again, both at the Old Globe and at Manhattan Theater Club.
-
Well... Time for me to hit the sack, hit the hay, etc...
Goodnight.

I have a new guilty pleasure...........
SKATING WITH THE STARS

No wonder you've hurt your back muscles again TCB

Back from the Kris McDowell evening, about which more later.
Jose, we really don't close that weekend, that's just the way they like to do things here - we'll announce an extension next week or the week after - we're booked in and paid for for eight weeks - we end somewhere around March 5th, unless we REALLY extend, which we'll know in the next two weeks.

THat is good to know ... I have a freind who is going out to LA for a some training for a couple of weeks in February and I was telling her to go to your play!
-
I ate some chex snax, I ate some red licorice, and I ate a bagel with cream cheese - a perfect little snack.
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
