Ummmm...... I did bellydancing once and it was NOT a very pretty sight....

For those who have the body and flexibility to do it successfully, it is an interesting dance... I will stick with clogging, stepdancing, waltzing, swing and a few others.

Now wouldn't this be a twist on bellydancing... Males may be the future of bellydancing....

The Equivoc Eight were not particularly successful Jazz Musicians based in Finland in the 1980's.  They toured extensively in the Baltic States to little acclaim. Two of their members wrote the Finnish entrant in the Eurovision Song Festival in 1988. The song received no votes.

I have to put out the garbage before I go to bed...and before I forget. ::) I forgot a couple of weeks ago.  Oh, well.

In my CD player right this very moment is the soundtrack of "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever" that I just got a few hours ago in Seattle.  After that (actually, later when I get to work), will be the gift that I got from DR François:  "Overture: American Musical Theatre, Volume 3."

In my DVD player (still):  three DVDs that I got from Netflix several weeks ago.

In my VCR:  things that I had taped earlier in the week (except for last night...I forgot to set my VCR before I went to the movie).  I plan to be home in time to watch my Friday evening shows. :D

She has an incredible voice... Matt is not too shabby either..

I do have to by a new copy of Christina's CD if it is still available. My car CD player suffered from some ill effect and it scratched the daylights out of it....

Greetings from the Terminal C Baggage Claim Area of the San Francisco International Airport!

*I didn't realize that this airport was a not a 24-hour "deal", like LAX and ATL.  I had figured with all the international flights... I guess I figured wrong.  The passenger terminals are closed, but there are still a few public areas that are "public".  So, I'm nestled here by the baggage carousels in a rather comfy chair.  My cell phone is recharging a couple feet away from me, and I'm accessing the internet via the T-Mobile Hot Spot network.  Whoopee!

*I'm still amazed that Dulles (IAD) does not have wireless internet access available in their passenger terminals.  I noticed this morning that they had even ripped out those sit-down booths where you could use a dial-up connection.  Get with the times, folks!

And as the custodial crew does their job...
Title: Re:BELLY DANCING
Post by: JoseSPiano on January 27, 2006, 01:57:51 AM
As DR elmore reported yesterday, I got bumped off my original flight.  Well, that was not exactly true... I actually got myself bumped off the flight.  -Yep, I'm fessin' up!  I ran up to the gate the minute after the closed the door and had just pushed away from the gate.  Arrrggghhh!!!  I had just missed the "flights close 10 minutes before departure" point.

Alas, I was running late.

I actually got up on time - 4:45am - but it just took me a while to get ready, to get out of the house.  I am just so not a morning person.  Even with all the packing and prep I did the night before, I didn't get in my car until 6:00am... And my flight was scheduled to leave at 7:00am... And since I was leaving from Dulles... That's a good 25-minute car ride away... And then I would have to go through security... And then ride those people movers to the terminal... And, of course, I was leaving from Gate D1... Which happens to be at the very end of the terminal... Ah, well...

It ended up working in my favor in a way...  The guy at the gate ended up rebooking me on the next flight out... For no fee...  And it was on a bigger plane... And he even upgraded my seating to "Plus" so I had more leg room...  And I ended up having a window seat... And the whole row (well, it was just a two-seat row) to myself!  *My original flight was almost sold out.  So...  No biggie... And the extra time also gave me a chance to grab a bite to eat, as well as calm down from the all the rushing and worrying I did to get to the airport "on time".

And the flight itself was fine.  However, I did have to deal with some horrible sinus pain issues once we started the descent.  I've had it before, but it had been a while, and since I've been sniffly...  OUCH!!  It really hurt for a bit.  I could even feel it in my teeth.  *I bought a mild decongestant for the return trip, and I hope I don't have to deal with the feeling of having an ice pic going through my sinus cavity.

And as for the Topic of Yesterday...

Encyclopedia Brown, The Hardy Boys... Did anyone else read "Alvin's Secret Code"?  A great kids mystery, and in the process of telling the story, the author revealed some various ciphers and codes.  It's stuck with me since reading it in the fourth grade.

Columbo, Mannix (wasn't he a detective?), Magnum P.I., The Hardy Boys (ah, Sean Cassidy and Parker Stevenson), Ironsides (always seemed to catch that on late night), Barnaby Jones (and I guess I had a crush on Mark Shera (JR Jones too!).  ;)

Back to San Francisco...

Well, might as well get it out of the way...  Here's the Food Report:

Lunch: Quizno's Sub - It wasn't exactly my choice to eat there, but a couple of the cast members were there, and it was right across the street from the theatre.  -And it was a good sub, so...

See's Candy - Amazing Walnut Chew Bar - they were giving out samples today, which happened to be full-size bars, so...  And I did buy a Scotchmallow Bar, two Peanut Brittle Bars, and two Nut Chew Bars for sometime later.  ;)

Richart Chocolates - Walked in and browsed... Walked out... But was VERY tempted.

Teuscher Chocolates - Walked in and browsed... Walked out...  Walked back in a few hours later to buy some of their signature Champagne Truffles for the Conductor and his crew here in SF.

Ghirardelli - Walked through the retail store...  Almost bought some stuff, but realized I can get Ghirardelli back home... And at cheaper prices, so...  However, I did end up in the ice cream parlor where I ordered their Foghorn Sundae which is basically their Chocolate Sundae - Chocolate Ice Cream, Chocolate Sauce (I opted for the Dark Hot Fudge), Raspberry Sauce, Whipped Cream and Chocolate Chips.  Very good.

Dinner at David's - A Jewish Deli in San Francisco.  Quite the meal, and quite the bargain too!  I got their daily special: freshly baked rye bread, a bowl of split pea soup, Chicken Paprikash (today's special), vegetables and mashed potatoes with brown gravy - all for $11.99!  And I added on a Doc Brown's Black Cherry Soda and a Prune Hamantasch to go.  *Oh, and they threw in a small slice of their Chocolate Mocha Cake as a "thank you".  :)

And besides the airplane food, that was about all I had to eat today, so... Not too bad... And since I walked.... And walked....
Title: Re:BELLY DANCING
Post by: JoseSPiano on January 27, 2006, 02:20:53 AM
After meeting the folks at the Curran, I walked over to Grant Ave...  I walked up Grant Ave to Chinatown... I wanted to do my Flower Drum Song tour... ;)  Lots of sights, lots of smells... And I picked up a package of x-rated fortune cookies...  -It's Chinese New Year this weekend...

Then I kept going up Grant...  Then I ended up heading up to Coit Hill/Tower...  Then back down...  Then over to Lombard Street - the crookedest street... Then down to Ghirardelli Square and Fisherman's Wharf...

Then I decided to take the Trolley Car back to Union Square...  Whew!

San Francisco really is quite the city, and I do hope to make it back again.  However, I think it would be good if the tourist maps included elevations and "steep grade" warnings.  I truly was a bit out of breath while talking with DRs Ron Pulliam and Jason.  *However, I probably would have been more out of breath if I had been working out and running the past two months.  :)

Alas, I missed meeting up with both DR Matthew and DR Ron Pulliam.  It's all in the timing.  Hopefully, I'll be able to make it back here sometime to catch up with them in person - or if they happen to make it east sometime...  But their assitance and hints via e-mail and phone were most helpful.  Thank you, guys!

:)

And then came Lestat...

I'm not really sure what to say right now.  And I'm not really sure what I can say right now, so...  However...

Everyone knew coming into this, that the San Francisco run would be one big preview period for the Broadway bow.  The show has undergone both major and minor changest since the first rehearsals in NYC, and even since the first performances here in San Francisco.

Thankfully, everyone is still of the spirit that the show is a still a work in progress, and that we're still in the process of creating the show.  That said...

I had read the reviews and heard reports (official and unofficial) about the show, and sort of knew what to expect.  It was what what I expected.  Lots of potential on that stage.  Lots.

It was very interesting gauging the audience reaction both at intermission and after the show.  Opinions ran the gamut...  Dreck... Amazing... Bland... Powerful... What the ??... I smell a Tony...

We shall see...

One positive side effect of all the changes - and one that directly affects me - is that the cast recording will now be done in New York City.  The original plan was to record the show out here the day after they close.  With the San Francisco pit musicians.  Well...  It looks like I'll be going into the studio for my first Broadway Cast Recording the next couple of weeks!

HOO and RAY!!

Well... The first leg of my journey back east begins boarding in about four hours...  I think I'm gonna go ahead and try to grab a few winks here in my comfy chair...  -As of right now, I've been up 24 hours, so...

I'm looking forward to DR Jason's visit to DC this weekend!  -And I guess that means I'll have to do some cleaning and change some linens when I get back home this afternoon - or whatever time of day my body feels like it is.  ;)  Thankfully, if my flight gets in on time, I'll have a good five hour window to take some breathing time, and if it's a little late, I'll still have a nice chunk of time before the show.

OH!  I love those "Heigh-Ho Mozart" and "Bibbidi-Bobbity-Bach" albums.  I haven't listened to them in a while, but they're fun.  Some of the arrangements are better than others, but, on they whole, they're a good listen.  -And they remind of those classical treatments of Christmas Carols and Beatles tunes by that string quartet who's name eludes me right now.

DR Jose, another whirlwind visit.  It sounds is if you had a great time, and I'm so happy you made the trek.  Get back safely today.

TOD:
DVD:  opera:  Hercles, Samson et Dalila, Hansel and Gretel
CD:  My Grammy purchases are late this month so nothing new, Debbie Gravitte's Defying Gravity, Guy Haines, Babes in Toyland, something by Mozart, probably Le Nozze di Figaro

Going away for the weekend so there will be nothing in the vcr or dvd. But there will be music in my car as I drive. I am sure there will be selections from the Bruce Kimmel Collection. I am thinking of going with the instrumetal division. Harvey Schmidt, Ennio Morriconne, Titanic, Superman, Godzilla, Cinema Romance, Out At the Movies and various Terry Trotter Trio recordings. Since I probably will go through at least 4 cds there at back; I have a wealth of material to choose from for the drive north that will take between 2-3 hours (Depending on traffic and how fast I drive.)

I'm looking forward to a visit from Dear Larry. We didn't get much chance to talk at Barrymore's.

I'm listening to the London cast recording of Little Me right now. I just listened to the Debbie Allen Sweet Charity. Not good, not bad, just blah. I also have my Gracie Fields CD.

Nothing in the hopper for VCR/DVD on the weekend but that may change. I must get back into the habit of riding the exercise bike. I slipped over the holidays and I haven't been consistent since we got back.

BTW
I watched CSI last night. I am not a regular viewer, but it happend that Faye Dunnaway was a guest star.

What did she do to her face?? Way too much plastic surgery! Her face was so tight there were hardly any expression to it. She should age gracefully like her fellow guest star Anita Gillette who in my opinion looked a lot better and more natural.

Other guest stars were Scott Wilson and Jonathan Banks, both who I have not seen in a long time and did not realize they were roughly the same age as Miss Dunnaway and proudly look there age as well.

Good Morning!  Again!

Well...  Just waiting to board my flight to LAX... And then from LAX it's onto IAD.  I tried changing to a direct flight to Dulles, but they were all booked today, and, besides, the first flight out doesn't leave until a bit later, and gets in within just minutes of my flight from LAX.  Horse-racing, I guess. ;)

Alas, both flight segments are fully booked.  I hope everyone is sleepy and keeps the window shades drawn.  ;)

...And now that I've just finished an Airborne...

I'm still a little sniffly right now, but I think that has more to do with the chilly temps here at the airport than anything else.  Oh, and maybe perhaps the lady who sat in front of me at last night's performance of Lestat.  She must have bathed and shampooed her hair in her eau de parfum.  Sheesh!  Even the gentleman sitting two seats away from me asked, "Are you having trouble breathing?  There seems to be something in here that's making my throat close up."  Well... And when his wife sat down a few moments later, she confirmed the source of the "irritant".

Oh, and just in case the gay couple who sat to my right happen to be reading this...  "If you crinkle that goddamn m&m's wrapper one more time...?!?!?!??!!!!!!"   Arrrgghhh!

And the same goes for the lady behind me and her Werther's Originals!

Don't make me get all scourge-y on you!

However, on the BART ride back from Union Square to the airport, I happened to chat a bit with two ladies.  They work downtown, and work late, and they've been hearing all the "buzz" about Lestat from audience members riding the BART back with them.  They hadn't seen the show itself, but they've been hearing lots of opinions.  They even asked for opinions from people holding programs.

Well... They're both mothers (with husbands and children), but they go the theatre a lot, and they make regular visits to New York City.  We talked about this and that.  Some gossip, so scandal.  And one of them actually knows a couple actresses that I've worked with and adore.  So...

After quite a lively exchange, we exchanged e-mail addresses, and I'm going to forward them the itinerary from the Food & Walking Tour as well as some "hints" for what to see this spring when they come to New York City.

-Oh, and it also turns out they think their friend, Charles, is perfect for me!

Michael mentioned, regarding CSI:

fellow guest star Anita Gillette

It wasn't this past year (2005) but the previous year (2004) when we were making gift bags for for BCEFA that Miss Gillette came to help out. What a charming and sweet woman. You're correct, Michael. She has aged gracefully and looks and sounds like a real person.

iPod:  TWIN PEAKS soundtrack

Tivo:  The BLEAK HOUSE premier.

VCR:  A friend gave me a tape contains some episodes of Lorne Michales' THE BIG SHOW, a show which ran briefly in the early 80s on NBC.  The skits on the show mostly stank to high heaven, but regulars Buck Henry and Dave Thomas, along with guesting original SNL and SCTV cast members, made it all a lot of fun.  Looking forward to this!

Last night's "Smallville":

SPOILER

SPOILER

Called "Reckoning", this was the 100th episode.  It's also one of the most powerful I've seen.  Superb episode.  Thrilling and heartbreaking.  A prophesy is fulfilled...and it could have been one of three people...two of them are not part of the original Superboy/Superman lore and one of them is.  They got me.  They red-herringed me perfectly.  I didn't see it coming, but one very key character died.

re: "Will and Grace"  -- Okay, the Rob and Ellen minor subplot is resolved for the ages.  Vince has moved on and is a much better...and much happier...person with Will and Grace OUT of his life.

That said, we can now finish the series.  Apparently, Leo will get a resolution episode next week.  Thus, I'll have to assume that the "mothers" -- Will's, Grace's, Jack's and Karen's -- will get a series-resolution episode, too.

Sadly, the two main characters have fully evolved into becoming Elaine and Jerry from "Seinfeld"...unrelentingly shallow and clueless about how very mean-spirited they both are...toward each other and others.

You know what?  Will does not DESERVE any happiness.  He's made stupid choices and MUST PAY for them here and in the hereafter.

Grace is a harpie of the first order.  She is on the earth only to persecute Will and to make his life several times worse than he's capable of making it for himself.

I hate both these characters now.  It took this season for both to be destroyed beyond my caring.  But the deed is done.

Jack and Karen are now at the mercy of twit writers who continue to give them irrelevant nastiness and recycled gags.

ENOUGH.

Put a stake in it!

First off, Happy Birthday, Wolfy!!

Secondly, Happy Birthday DR MusicGuy, wher'er you may be...

Thirdly, YAY FOR JOSE!! I'm so excited that you get to do the Cast Album. Woohoo!!!

Fourthly, I had my first therapy session this morning and it was fantastic. I'm going back on Thursday during my lunch hour.

Fifthly, I can't wait to get to DC! I'm excited to see DR Jose as I've missed him terribly while he's been away and I've sort of planned out my days with lots of fun, free stuff to pass the time until he and I meet for dinner before his evening shows. I will see/hear those evening shows, either from the house or from the pit assuming that's cool with Jose and company management/box office staff.

"What are my DC plans?", you may be wondering. Or not. Well, I'm going to tell you. Since the weather is supposed to be warm and loverly tomorrow, I'm going to head to the National Zoo to see the pandas. I've never seen a real live panda. And since the weather is supposed to be rainy on Sunday, I figured I'd head to the Smithsonian's Museum of American History to check out Dorothy's ruby slippers and Archie Bunker's recliner. :) I'm very excited.

Good morning all

I apologize for being E&T this week.  I haven't felt much like socializing with anyone online or otherwise.  On Tuesday evening my superiors called me in for a meeting and told me that either I needed to resign or they would sack me right then.  The reasons are long and complicated, and focus primarily on a few cruel co-workers of mine that smiled to my face and bitched about me behind my back to save their own hides, a few lies told about me that i simply could not get them to believe false, and a system that didn't work and needed a scapegoat to blame.  This week has been a tough one for me, and I'm still nowhere near "fine"  but I know I will be at some point.

Lucky time for DB Jed to get a job, though...both of us can't be out of work...

One of my more infamous girlfriends was, believe it or don't, a Moroccan Jewish belly-dancer who was quite famous in the Portland area--she was a pro who danced nightly at a big restaurant that featured belly dancers.  Her name was Seilah, which I always thought was a sign from G-d, being pronounced the same way as the frequent "stop" in the Psalms, Selah.  Well, Seilah was quite a trip.  She was quite a bit older than I, and more than a bit on the wild side.  One of my favorite Seilah stories is the first night we were together.  Get your minds out of the gutter, especially you ,TCB.  No, there we were lying in bed when Seilah said, "My eye hurts."  She then proceeded to remove a glass eye that I had no idea she had and set it on the nightstand.  I managed to keep from seriously freaking out, but it was a moment.  :)

DR ANN - that is a terrible (but not unfamiliar) story.  I am sending you good thoughts and vibes.

IF you haven't done so already - most STATE Personnel departments have websites that make it simple for you to view openings in ALL areas of the state, and you can apply online.

MANY hospitals and larger companies offer the same service and you can even be notified by email when a job fitting your chosen qualifications is available.  If you haven't already signed on to some of those you might check them out.  It's a painless way to start a job search, and helps ease the transition.

I just potponed my visit with Mr Tom Jones and his family till next week:  too much to do this afternon before my trip to the Village tonight.  I had a lovely two hours at the NYPL Music Collection looking at the new Kurt Weill Edition and critical notes.  Wednesday, I looked at the new partitur of THE FIREBRAND OF FLORENCE  and today was the new edition of DIE DREIGROSCHENOPER.  Tomorrow, I need to look over the critical notes to each set.

DR MBarnum, I just caught a bit of PASSIONS, the world's most inane and badly written soap opera, and they had a Bollywood fantasy sequence.  The actors on this show are so grade D that you'll want to interview every one of them some day.

Didn't the author of BRANDO UNZIPPED also release a book about Katharine Hepburn?  Darwin Porter.

It's a terrible book that includes page after page of QUOTES from personal conversations between persons now long dead.

Example:

Cukor told Kate that Errol Flynn had once again made a casting-couch visit to his office "plea bargaining" to be cast as Rhett Butler.

"Even though it's against your usual practice," Kate said, "did you once again manage to resist his sexual overtures?"

"I'm a man of mere flesh, and he overcame my resistance," Cukor said.  "After we'd done the dirty deed, I had to warn him that there still wasn't any guarantee that he would play Rhett."

"When Flynn comes to New York, give im my number at Fenwick" Kate said. "I want to convince Selznick that Flynn is very attracted to me."

"Okay," Cukor warned her, "but in Flynn's case you'll be getting sloppy seconds following your director's conquest of this handsome Aussie devil."

And so it goes, conversation after conversation that in all probability NEVER took place except in Porter's overheated imagination.

Is BRANDO UNZIPPED like that?

And just as smarmy.  He's got Mildred Natwick, whom I adored, telling him the trashiest things about Brando and Guthrie McClintock.  The problem is, a lot of it it's probably quite true, but the telling is so gross and the dialogue rings so false, that it's like reading "Erotic Fantasies of Hollywood by a Mad Queen."  Since every source is conveniently dead, no one can fight the author.

Petruchio, a gentleman from Verona suffered from a form of bi-polar disorder. A local physician prescribed an experimental drug "Equivo" to calm him down. Unfortunately, his shrewish wife was wont to hide the pills. He was oft heard to roar "Where is my Equivo Kate!"

DR MBarnum, I just caught a bit of PASSIONS, the world's most inane and badly written soap opera, and they had a Bollywood fantasy sequence.  The actors on this show are so grade D that you'll want to interview every one of them some day.

I had a lovely lunch with my fella (which passed by all too quickly), and then stopped off at the grocery store on the way home which will allow me to cancel my Sunday morning jaunt to the store. I was very surprised how UNCROWDED this store was on early Friday afternoon. I wish the one in my neighborhood was similarly empty; I'd always shop on Friday instead of Sunday morning.

I decided to watch SMALLVILLE and last night's CSI tonight while waiting for IN JUSTICE to come on.

Instead, I finished up the second disc in the SUPERMAN series DVD set. "The Face and the Voice" had George Reeves playing a dual role which he did very well.

"Panic in the Sky," which many aficianados consider the best SUPERMAN episode ever made, had a commentary by Jack Larson and Noel Neill. They would forget to talk getting wrapped up in the action of the story, and then when they would speak, it usually wasn't episode-specific. Larson did by far the most of the talking, and he's an engaging fellow, but I wish they could have given more insight/information into the making of the show. Of course, they've been telling stories about the show for decades and probably didn't feel they had anything new left to talk about.

Larson did reveal something I had wondered about - who was going to play Perry White after John  Hamilton died; turns out, it was going to be Pierre Watkin who had played Perry in those two Columbia serials that Noel Neill was also in. Watkin guested as other characters in several SUPERMAN episodes throughout the run.

Then I put in the fifth disc of CSI: MIAMI, but only got a few minutes in when a couple of phone calls came in which effectively ended my TV watching for the afternoon. Nice to hear from both friends, neither of whom I had talked to in awhile, so I've had a very pleasant afternoon.

Sigh... the memories.

Philadelphia, during World War II, black-out time - all city lights are off, the house windows covered with black shades, in my bedroom the Emerson Table radio (the size of a microwave!) had a faint glow, I nestled under the covers as l listened to Gracie sing "Now Is the Hour".

Now wait a minute, JMK, you tell me to get my mind out of the gutter; and then you say, "there we were lying in bed...."  Now mind you, I have known my way around a few gutters; but really, what am I to think?

You were composing radio copy for Sealy Posturepedic???

I am so tired of these "singers" and soap  "stars"  who claim the title of diva as if they could bestow it on themselves.  And as if it were a compliment.  But then some "stars" on these idiot dramas also claim that they are great actors because they have to memorize a lot of lines and perform them in a short period of time....as if "memorizing lines" constitutes acting.  Oh well....

Back from a long day (so far), about which more in a bit.  I have to do a quick rewrite of the two spots - the execs notes were clear and pretty simple to fix, although I may have to go searching for a couple of sound bites.  Nothing major, though - just a couple of voice over changes (more kid-friendly in their wording), and a couple of deletions (I thought they wanted to reference some of the running gags in the show, but they don't - just want to concentrate on the music - so that's relatively easy to fix).  Anyway, to work.

Oh, and Suskin e-mailed me earlier this week - there were actually two cover problems - in fixing the first, they screwed up something on the second.  He's thinking early Feb now.

And I get a kick out of him poking fun at me! In fact you would be surprised how often that happens with my friends!  :D

I am a bit less excited about the release of the Superman Series seasons that follow....and after studying a bit on the net, it seems that season 3, 4, 5, 6, each had 13 episodes.  So I would guess (no official word yet) - they will be released 2 seasons at a time....

But please....Professor Pepperwinkle was an annoying twit as is Sterling Holloway who also appears in Season 3, I think.  Ugh.  But hopefully the color will be fine and dandy!

I am somewhat interested in the later seasons as Gloria Talbott, Laurie Mitchell, Diana Darrin, and Joi Lansing all make appearences...but we shall see.

Yes, the color shows are really low budget and silly for the most part, but I love them anyway. But if they're as sharp as this Season 2 set is, we're going to see every one of George Reeves' gray hairs, and by the end of the series, he wasn't even trying to conceal his age.

I always thought DADDY LONG LEGS was about 15 or 20 minutes too long, but it's still undeniably entertaining, and "Something's Gotta Give" is as wonderful a song as any of the classic songs from earlier in Fred Astaire's career.

Looking forward to seeing it in a sharp transfer. I recorded it off AMC years ago on a widescreen telecast, but I've only watched it once or twice in all the years I've had it.

Ann, this is so sucky.  On an emotional level, I'm so sorry that you have to deal with this and they are nuts to ask you to go.  On a practical level, document everything and ask them to put it all in writing.

I enjoyed another CSI: MIAMI episode on DVD before settling in with network TV.

This one had to do with millions of dollars being scammed from a charity by one of the people intimately involved in the organization. The episode also reintroduced the doomed Detective John Hagen who carries a mighty torch for Callie and will come to an eventual bad end. I liked him as a character and hated to see this subplot as it unfolded over a series of episodes. But it did pave the way to make good ol' boy Rex Linn the permanent detective on call for the CSI team.

Last night's SMALLVILLE was a very sad episode as we bid goodbye to one of the regulars. Can't say I was very surprised by the identity of the eventual dead person, but there were plenty of shifts and surprises before we got to that inevitable end.

MONK also had a most bittersweet episode with the subplot concerning Captain Stollemeyer and his wife. The central mystery of the episode was one of the easier ones to solve in the show's history.

DR Elmore.  I watched "Tintypes" yesterday and enjoyed it far more than at my first attempt!  I noticed that "Babes in Toyland" was there in one of the sepia montages and of course Toyland is sung in the show.

I thought the show would have been far better filmed with an audience.  So would have been "Kiss Me Kate" and "Oklahoma".

I have to get the "Tintypes" DVD; I saw it back around 1988 on A&E, before it became the Crime Channel, and I liked it, although I preferred it onstage.  Lynn Thigpen was one of the greats and at least we have her performance preserved.  She should have won the Tony and lost to Lauren Bacall sleepwalking through DOG OF THE WEEK, I mean WOMAN OF THE YEAR.

More vibes to Ann.  I have had many glasses of wine tonight, so of course that puts me in a mood to lend advice, but much of what you said reminds of my situation at Disney.  I think because I was taken by surprise I didn't do what I would have advised others to do.  If I had it to do over, I would have reminded myself that I had nothing to lose, I would have documented all of the conversations I had had, and I would have asked them to put their offer in writing.  It's to their advantage to have you exit gracefully - if it's possible, get them to pay for that grace, and then collect unemployment.

I kept meaning to and never got around to it. I don't think it's playing at my neighborhood theater any more, but I'll check the listings tomorrow. I would like to see it.

Emma Goldman had quite an influence on Musical theatre it seems - Ragtime, Assassins and Tintypes.
Noticed only one film bio - outrageously expensive!! Why I wonder? Was it not on general release?  Something about a very dangerous woman.

I only spent 6 hours today trying to print the newsletter. Add that to the 13 hours yesterday. All to get 200 newsletters.  I gave up and ran most of the black and white copies on the 8-year-old copy machine, which never gives me any problems.  The longer the Ricoh printed, the worse the quality became. Good Evening!

A very nice evening.  I stayed awake!  ;)

-And my brother and his wife and their son, my nephew, came to see the show tonight.  They all loved it.  John Michael was very interested in seeing where Uncle Jojo worked, so after the show, I gave him a tour of the pit, and he even got to get a sense of the view from the podium.  -And he was also sort of star-struck afterwards meeting everyone in the show.  Very cute!

And, yes, DR Jason made it into DC safe and sound.  And the timing was perfect.  I happened to spot his bus turning the corner as I was coming into Chinatown, so I was able to pick him up right when he got it.

-And we just got back from a late night dinner.  -Tex-Mex Eggrolls(!), French Toast, Eggs, Bacon, Clam Chowder, and a Club Sandwich.  Each!  Not!  ;)  Very good food, and very generous portions.

And now...

DR Elmore I want to kiss your hand about your comment about Passions. James E. Reilly also writes Days and what he has done to that shoe is almost just as bad. I dislike the show Passions!!  Many fans of Days dispises Reilly with  venom that is amazing. I am amazed that NBC keeps him on for both Passions and that Ken Corday keeps him on at Days......

I have seen better written fanfcitions than what he has put on the screen. You are generous with the D... I would give his writing an F.

There is news on the locals news of an accident on the set of an ABC soap opera....anyone know any details.  My guess is someone sprained an ankle...

There was an explosion on the set of All My Children and four stunt people were injured. All have been released from the hospital and two had to have stitches....

They were filming and explosion scene and something backfired... Thank god they were not more severely injured and the fire was put out.

Matt Ashford nearly escaped death on Days when he missed a cue. He does a lot of his own stunts on the show and he did not get out of the car fast enough as it filled iwth water.
