Well, you've read the notes, the notes were clean as a whistle, and now it is time for you to post until the clean cows come home.  To it, I say.

I also really like the Olympics, although I have a hard time watching them on tape delay.  IF something has already happened, it seems odd to be nervous awaiting the results.

I do like figure skating. And I even like curling when the Canadians are playing.  But one of my favorites to watch (which can make a person crazy with nerves) is speed skating.  They fall so often, it is crazy on the nerves!

I wasn't able to watch much yesterday since i was gone all day.  And i'm not sure how much i can watch today. My sister is having a big party for her husband's sister and her family (who arrived from nunavut). But they may have their big screen tv on during the party. We shall see!

...And we actually had lightning and thunder snow last night too... I woke up thinking it was the sound of a snow plow... And then saw a couple of flashes every now and then... Then heard the thunder...

Hmm... Time for a pic or two, I believe.

Good morning, all!  I love the quiet of the City after a huge snow.  I have yet to hear the sound of a snow shovel scraping against concrete this morning.  And the City is beautiful covered in snow.  I'm listening to Haydn's "Mass in Time of War" and enjoying the feeling of beng snowed in.

I was going to hit the recording office today, but I think I'll stay in and work on Toyland notes at the computer instead.

As DR MBarnum reported, I watched the Bridie Murphy-inspired THE UNDEAD last night,  I loved this film as a kid, and  I think it holds up fairly well, given the fact that the special effects are cheaper than my porn.  The dialogue is poor man's Olde English, but the story's pretty well told, and Dorothy Neumann's makeup as old Meg Maud is plain peculiar enough to keep the viewer fascinated.

As for the beloved Allison Hayes?  Huge, humongous bazooms and a lot of sincere acting.  I think she always had a proclivity to sneer her dialogue, but she has two levels of sneer:  hard and soft.  I loved Pamela Duncan, who was better than I remembered, but the joke on me is that I have always thought for the past 40 years that Alison had played Pamela's role.

So, I'll start a TOD: are there film performances you've seen again and realized you've confused credits?

How much snow is predicted for today?  And when is it supposed to stop?

My sister just called and I totally forgot that my parents were coming back from their vacation today through new york city. They are supposed to take a bus back here at 1pm.  But i'm wondering if the bus station will be operating?

Does anybody know?  Thanks.

Ah, all airports are still open at this time, but most carriers have cancelled all flights for today.  Call your airline.

Re Elmore's question of the day - No film performances where I've confused credits, but as a VERY VERY young kid, with the TV show FAMILY AFFAIR, the  credits announced only "Brian Keith and Sebastian Cabot," I naturally assumed that those were the names of the actors playing the kids - since to my way of thinking the kids were the stars of the show.  Obviously, I had no conception that Sebastian was not a girl's name.  :)

I didn't log back on last night due to "the big sleep."

I fell asleep in my chair, and didn't wake up until amost 1 a.m. Then, just put myself to bed and continued sleeping. Not having felt well the latter part of the week, I guess my body just needed this rest very much. Two cups of hot chocolate could also have ease me into my slumbers.

PINKY has a fairly grainy transfer with some light spotting running along the right side of the frame.

Its grain was all the more noticeable because after I finished it for the second time, I put in FOR ME AND MY GAL which has one  of those silky black and white transfers that is astonishing to look at. Wonderful film.

Very sad for Michelle Kwan, but I appreciate her willingness to give a spot to an up-and-comer, and I wish Emily Hughes the best of luck with her first try at the Olympics.

Michelle has won two Olympic medals in her career, something very few skaters have ever accomplished. She has nothing to feel bad about.

I finally got through to the bus station in NYC. They said they are closed till tomorrow morning. I had thought that perhaps they would have had buses going out at midnight. But I guess not.

I wonder if my parents will have to sleep at the bus station. :(
Or if their cruise made arrangements for them.

Sheesh, I feel so stupid, cause I'm going to pick them up but I totally forgot that they were coming from NYC. And here I was listening to all of you talk about the storm, and I'm thinking "how cool". :(

Did they sail out of NYC?  Or were they flying from somewhere into NYC?  And then bussing back home?

Actually no airlines. They are coming from a cruise. I wonder if the cruiseships will even be able to make it into NY? Actually that would be better if they were still on the ship.

I guess it is Port Authority - Greyhound bus which they will be taking.

No snow at all here, just frigid weather (-20C).  I had to turn on the car and lock it. Cause I want it to heat up before I go in.

Oh well I guess I won't have to pick them up tonight (which is okay). But now I'll be worried until I hear something. I don't want to think of them wandering around NYC with all their luggage.

I wonder if I can find out if the cruise arrived. I do feel bad for those people leaving again today (i think it's today). I'll bet many won't arrive in NYC. :(

Oh, my, that's some snow in NYC!  We have "decorative" snow, just on the grass, rooftops, trees, but the roads seem to be clear.

DR Jose - thanks for the photos.  I hope you and all the other New Yorkers stay safe and warm and that travelers like Jennifer's parents are not too hampered by the conditions.

I, too, wish Michelle Kwan all the best.  Olympic silver and bronze medals are nothing to sneeze at and she has acted with class by stepping aside in time for Emily to savor her first Olympic experience.

So, my topic for discussion today:  What is your favorite moment from the Winter or Summer Olympics?  Mine was Paul Wylie's no-expectations trip to the 1992 games in Albertville and his silver medal.  I've always thought of 1992 as the last year of figure skating's "innocence," before the Harding-Kerrigan debacle.

Mayor Bloomberg is giving an update....

I didn't realize the New York City Parks Department has a First Day of Snow program... They provide sleds, hot chocolate, music, nature walks, etc. at various parks throughout the city on days like this.

-Oh, and at this point, all Broadway shows are scheduled to go on today as scheduled.  Hmm... Could be a good day to snag a cancellation ticket.  I wonder if some shows will be "inviting" people in. Does that ever happen? -just to fill the seats?

My favorite "snow days" were the 3 days leading up to Christmas 2004, my first Christmas here at HHW.  It started snowing here on Wednesday morning, Richard and I went to the grocery right away, and we didn't get out again until Saturday, which was Christmas day.  Richard, Rob, and I had 3 lovely days of Christmas cocooning.  Here's one of the photos from that time - the snowplow stuck at our corner.

My favorite Olympic skating moment: well, I had two.

1. Dorothy Hamill winning at Innsbrook. She skated with such freedom and joy (to Korngold music) and after winning silver medals at the previous two world championships, was considered a favorite for a medal but not necessarily gold since she was skating against the previous two world champions.

2. Brian Boitano winning the gold at Calgery with a stunning, perfect program. Again, skating against the defending world champion Brian Orser, the odds weren't in his favor.

I get cold very easily, so I'm not one who likes snow all that much. I love the pictures of snow, and it's undoubtedly one of nature's loveliest creations, but I never enjoyed playing in it as a kid as I'd get too cold too quickly and have to come inside. I'd almost always get the flu soon after, too. One time I got pneumonia after playing in the snow.

Okympic moments..... Boitano for sure.

I think some of Kurt Browning's programs were great to see.

And the first Olympic games I remember on television in 1960....I think an airplane of American athletes crashed - it was so sad.....and that may have been the year Carol Heiss skated a beautiful program.  Of course that's before we heard her voice and realized she talked like Froggy from Our Gang.

Carol definitely won in 1960. The airplane of American skaters that crashed was the next year, I believe, on the way to the world championships.

If there was a 1960 plane crash, I don't remember that.

Well, I've been out to the market and back:  little traffic, a lot of smiling faces, a very quiet Sunday morning for New York by any standards, and it's so beautiful:  Holy Trinity across the street from me is a blaze of gold mosaic covered in white, the trees are outlined by snow and all the sidewalks have about a 1-2 feet-wide path stretching between Amsterdam and Broadway.

And now, to work; I'll finish Noah Racey's piece, then take up a discussion of the Toyland libretti.

You're finishing Noah Racey's piece?  I'm not touching that with a ten-foot pole or even a five-foot armenian.

Was hoping to sleep later than this, but I guess my Interanl Clock (IC, in Internet lingo) is set for eight these days.

I never has seen snow, at least not right now in LA, where the temperatures have been in the mid to high 80s.  I was in one of those NY snows where my flight was cancelled for at least one, maybe two days.

DR Jose, I was wondering if Broadway shows would be on today. I wonder if my parents will go see a musical, since they love Broadway.

But at this point I'm wondering if they are still on the cruiseship, since they did not call. I think if they were off they would have called. Although it could have taken longer due to weather.

And he's very very very happy!

My mom just called. They let them call from the boat.  They are still on it, but they arrived in NYC (a few hours late). But they are making them leave.

I felt so bad to break the news to my mom about the storm. She knew there was snow at that the airports were closed. But she had no idea the buses were not working all day.  And to make things worse. She didn't bring her boots (since it doesn't really snow in NYC).  I had to laugh at that one, picturing my mom walking in the 20 inches of snow with no boots.

They don't know what they will do yet. I really thought the boat would have helped them with arrangements, but I guess not. :(

Hiya, all.

I'm tucked in at the cabin - and it's a lovely day, bright sunshine, not a cloud! Odd for this time of year. The daffodils are up about 6 inches already - think they know somethin??

I have the Theater Puget Sound general auditions tomorrow - and though I am rarely sick, somehow yesterday I came down with the flu. But the show must go on - so I'll shlep into town tomorrow morning and recite. Then, gotta get the car serviced, and head back down. Just a zip up and a zip back down. Hoping to get a show up here during the summer - wouldn't it be loverly? Actually WORK up here, and LIVE IN MY HOUSE!! Whatta concept...

We've snow here in Rehoboth Beach!  At long last.  I'm dreaming of a white Valentines, just like the ones I used to... wait, I'm from SoCal, this snow stuff is new to me!

The dogs are happy.  They'll run outside, play, and come back in smiling and wet.

But now it's time to dash off to work yet again.  We've been swamped over the past couple of days, as shoppers have stocked up in anticipation of the end of the world.

Later.

Free for all Topic:

What's your happiest Snow Day memory?

I have two --- one is snow and the other is cold related.

One of the happiest days was when classes were cancelled and I did not have to take my psychology midterm until the following Monday.. That was Sweet!!

The second one is courtesy of the Governor of North Dakota when he shut down the schools due to high winds and extreme windchills of -100 Fahrenheit!  That was a perfect day to stay in bed....

DR Ginny, I agree with you about Michelle Kwan, she demonstrated a lot of class and integrity. It is a thing all athletes and people for that matter can learn from.

My favorite Olympic moments are

1980 - even though I was fairly young, I loved it when the US beat Russia in hockey!!!

1984 - Dean and Torvill winning gold in ice dancing

That snow looks like fun...as long as you can stay home and not have to drive in it! It has been a few years since we have gotten a lot of snow, and probably about 15 years since we got snow THAT deep!

Here in Salem, Oregon it is sunny, and if it warms up enough I might have to go outside and do some yardwork.

As DR MBarnum reported, I watched the Bridie Murphy-inspired THE UNDEAD last night,  I loved this film as a kid, and  I think it holds up fairly well, given the fact that the special effects are cheaper than my porn.

And speaking of cheap porn, elmore, thank you for that copy of the one that was filmed a few months ago out on your balcony.  I don't usually enjoy solos, but the guy was cute, and that underwear looked so familiar.

And for a LONG time I thought Howard Hawks was Howard Hughes!

We (Ant and me) have been inside all day watching a movie and listening to CDs. We are about to go out to see if any life exists in Chelsea. We see people walking in the street since the sidewalks are not completely shoveled. It reminds me of the days of yore in Old Minnesota when I used to walk 5 miles uphill in the snow (both ways) to go to school  :D

We also have to see if Staples is open because yesterday the toner on the laser printer decided to give out. Oh, well. It has been at least 3 years since I bought the last toner. Perhaps it is time for a new one.

This is Ben, reporting from Chelsea (just blocks from the studios of New York 1, the local all news channel, in fact it's in the same building as Chelsea Market and all that delectable food).

Speaking of Fort Tryon Park:  We once went to a wedding in Fort Tryon Park.  On our way there, we hailed a cab but this well-dressed couple "stole" our cab saying "We're really in a hurry, on our way to a wedding."  We were about to say something, but something told us to just shut up.  Anyway, a few hours later, we're at the reception and sure enough, the well-dressed couple is sitting at a very prominent table full of producer-types.

I think of that lesson (shut up and don't make a scene unless absolutely necessary) whenever anyone says Fort Tryon Park.   :)

Good Afternoon!

Well... I'm taking a little break right now.  I just started "de-Nick-efying" my room around Noon, and just kept going.  I got most of his stuff stashed away and/or hidden, and I just have to clear out his CDs and DVDs from the desk.  -There are a lot of CDs and DVDs crammed in there.  And then I'll set up my shelves, and then... ???

However, in the meantime, I've been having a great time hanging out with my roomies.  We're all still in our pajamas with our laptops nearby.  And I've also been continuing to take hourly snow pics.  And even a few of my roomies.  Fun!

I have spent a leisurely afternoon watching DVDs and doing laundry.

First up was the MARY TYLER MOORE episode with Nannette Fabray as Mary's mother. In 1973 when this show was filmed, Nannette was still young looking and in great shape. What a shame SHE didn't get the movie of MAME if they weren't going to give it to Angela Lansbury. Of course, neither of them had the name of Lucille Ball, but did Nannette ever tour in MAME?

To bring me up to 4 p.m., I watched DADDY LONG LEGS on the Fox Movie Channel. If this is the transfer used in the DVD that bk mentioned the other day, the color was indeed de-saturated. Why would they master this film with color toned down to such inhuman levels? Everyone needed a blood transfusion and the rest of the color was likewise unbearably pale.

Um, if you go back and read my thoughts on the Daddy Long Legs DVD, you will see that I did not, in fact, say that the color was de-saturated - I said the opposite, that it was one of the best scope/color DVD transfers ever - it's incredible and obviously whatever the FMC showed was not the transfer on the upcoming DVD.

COUNT THREE AND PRAY, or it's alternate title: COUNT THREE AND MARRY THE GIRL YOU THOUGHT WAS 14 FREAKIN' YEARS OLD UNTIL THE LAST FIVE MINUTES OF THE MOVIE WHEN YOU FOUND OUT SHE WAS 18—HOW CONVENIENT.

Joanne Woodward, said youngster in an overripe performance. Van Heflin pretty likable. Raymond Burr dripping evil, along with the nasty Allison Hayes, quite a bitter lady! And lo and behold, the guy who plays Asa Buchanan on One Life to Live in a role of substance.

Best moment: Alison and Raymond, stuck together and defeated, she puts her hand on his hand, and he looks down, then at her like, "What are you doing?"

Good Afternoon!

I still need to attend to the desk drawers and CDs and DVDs... Instead, my roommate Megan heated up some bried, poured some strawberry preserves over it, and opened up a box of melba toast... YUM!!!

Uhm, would that be cheese bread?

Again, if you read my comments, the Tiffany's image is brighter, there is less grain, and it's better than the previous DVD.  I'm begin very specific in my comments - the COLOR is OFF.  There are no two ways about it - the COLOR is better on the previous DVD.  Tiffany's was shot on Eastmancolor stock but PRINTED in IB Tech, and anyone who has ever seen or owned one of those prints knows that the skin tones in IB Tech prints do not resemble flat brown pancake.  Mr. Harris knows it, too, which is why I suspect that there's some other motive for him lying about these transfers (The Wild Bunch being another example).

Hello.  We have been out playin inthe snow here on the Island of Long.  We didn't get as many inches aof snow here as they did in NYC "only" about a foot...

The wind was blowing so feroiusly this morning we couldn't see anything out the front window, total "whiteout" so we said a prayer at home and played hookey from church.

I had gotten in the makings of a full English breakfast so we had tea and eggs and sausage and broiled tomatoes and broiled mushrooms and toast with lashings of HP sauce
since we were then too full too move we put Into the Woods into the DVD player and watched theat while our tummies settled.  I really like that show and cast except for Bernadette Peters (who I have enjoyed in other roles) who ( IMHO ) seems to be mugging for the audience the entire time

Then I found  The Notebook playing on one of the cable  movie channels.  So I watched that while hel;ping the Vixter put together a puzzle.

Then Vixdad came in and we had a little more tea and watched the edn of North by Northwest which was playing on PBS channel 13 and then had some lunch ( I got in some lovely cold cuts, roast beef, swiss cheese, ham, natural turkey breast,  dill pickles and fresh baked rolls) while watching  Hustle which we taped off AMC last night.

Finally the Vixter and I wentout to play in the snow.  We build a big snowman.  I took some pictures but for some reason I can't get them to download from the camera.

The we had a snowball fight and finally we came in and had some hot chocolate made with Godiva chocolate powder.

I guess I should start thinking about making that meatloaf for tonight.... or maybe shephards pie......hmmmmwhich shall it be?

Back from seeing the last Hairspray performance in Dayton - their 4 semi's were lined up outside the theater with their motors running.  The show was fun (I'd seen it in NYC in 2004, but DH Richard hadn't seen it before).  He went on to Cincinnati for shape-note singing and I went to Target before coming home to eat a sandwich and watch the Olympics.

DR Vixmom - your family snow day sounds delightful.  The Vixter won't have school tomorrow, will she?

Dan (the Man) how did the blizzard treat New Jersey?

Remember how the country house in DR ZHIVAGO looked during the winter?  That's what the House of Mom resembled when I awoke this morning.  The trees, shrubbery and house literally looked like they were sprayed with wax.  And it's been cold enough that the snow clung to the trees and shrubs all day.  Simply beautiful.

Shoveling is another matter.  My body is aching all over from two and a half hours of digging out the sidewalks and my car.  But Mom has shown her appreciation by making me a favorite apres-shoveling lunch (grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup and a cup of hot chocolate) and extra-strength Tylonel caplets.

Overall, the South Jersey area had about 12 to 14 inches.  According to the news, NJDOT seems to have the situation under control and all the major roads are clean.  I'll find out tomorrow when I head out to work and home.

Evening all!

My goodness some people have been very busy with their photo software since we all know there is no such thing as snow!  ;) :D  I still haven't seen it.

Per our local weatherman, we are in for a "chilly" morning--33 degrees F.  I think you all know my view on that.

We toped out at about 45F while I was out and about today with my coat, hat, scarf and mittens while others were out in shorts!  No kidding.  Shorts!    :o

We're in count down mode (T minus 10 days) for my surgery so I am making every effort to keep myself as heathy as possbile.

It's been a rough couple of weeks.  Mom fell but is ok then I looked over at Bear the other night and saw his right eye was blood red.  I took him to the vet the next night.  Four hundred dollars later for shots and meds, I think he is going to be ok as well.  His tear duct was blocked.

I hope everyone else is doing well.   :D

I'm digging the NYC pics and stories.  I was in the city only once during a snow storm and that was way back in 1980.  I was visiting two friends who lived up there and just as the storm was starting, the three of us carried a sofa bed from 60th and 10th to their place at 45th and 9th.  That was an adventure.

My favorite Olympics moment was watching Torville and Dean skate to Ravel's "Bolero."  It was riveting!  I later found out that they had done a wonderful routine to the overture to Mack & Mabel!  Watching that was pretty cool, too, but I don't remember if that was an actual Olympics performance or some other world skating event.

Oh!  I have other news as well.  A milestone has been reached!

Bonnie just rolled past the ten thousand mile mark on Friday.

Poor Bear.  I was sooo proud of him when I took him to the vet.  She said that normally they muzzle a dog as big as he is but with him she didn't feel he needed it.  And she was right.

He took it all in great stride.  Since he was only a month away from his yearly shots, he got all of them.  He didn't cry or growl or anything.  He just sat and took it all.  He really is such a good dog.

He has to go back the night before my surgery for a recheck.

One bad thing, he had one heck of a time climbing into Bonnie.

Okay, smart hainsies/kimlets researchers - is there anywhere online that one can search an older film to find out where it played in a specific city.  When I wrote the Kritzer books I, of course, remembered what played where and when, but to double check my memory I did go to the downtown library and use microfiche of the Herald-Express newspaper.  But, is there anywhere online where one can do the same thing without having to make the trip?

College student tries to buy pot at cop shop
By Mike Nowatzki, The Forum

West Fargo Police Officer Ken Zeeb figured it was just a silly college prank when a student phoned the police station looking to score some marijuana.

But the joke was on the student when she actually showed up to buy the pot.

Zeeb arrested 20-year-old Grace Sium of Fargo for criminal attempt and possession of drug paraphernalia at 3:58 a.m. Saturday.

According to Zeeb:

Sium, a junior at North Dakota State University, called the cop shop about 3:15 a.m., wanting to know where she could buy some marijuana.

The dispatcher told her several times that selling and possessing marijuana was illegal.

But Sium insisted, so the dispatcher told her there was marijuana in the evidence locker, and that if she came to the police station he would “hook her up.”

Zeeb had arrived for his 4 a.m. shift about 15 minutes early and was in the station’s locker room when Sium arrived.

“The dispatcher got on the intercom and said, ‘You know what? She’s here. She just handed me $3 for marijuana,’ ” Zeeb said.

Zeeb said Sium didn’t appear to be surprised when he arrested her.

“She didn’t seem like she was really under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” he said. “She understood what was going on and articulated herself well.”

Sium, who is originally from Oakdale, Minn., did not return a phone message left for her Saturday at the Cass County Jail.

Zeeb, a police officer for the past 15 years, said he worked narcotics for 7½ years and has arrested people for trying to buy drugs at a house as it was being searched by police.

But Saturday’s incident was “about the craziest thing I’ve ever come across,” he said.

“This is something that you couldn’t even make up,” he said.

It was running and playing - which is much louder with hard wood floors, but they seem a lot happier right now.  Today they discovered that a lot of their favorite things are here and they both saw Chuck the cat through the window.  Much better than night one for both them and me....I had hot water and took a nice hot bubble bath.

Ginny yes, Liz Manley’s joy was a joy to watch.

DakotaCelt, Dean and Torvill are incredible.  They were great in 84 and again the time they returned to the Olympics after being reinstated as amateurs.  I never did understand that, but if it was permitted then they should have been judged fairly. IMHO they were cheated out of the Gold that year.

Not sure if Valentine's Day is going to be possible, but we'll see.

We've gotten snow the past week here in Georgetown, Kentucky.  It snows through the day or night, is all billowy white in the morning and then is pretty much gone by late afternoon...at least on the drives and the streets.  Best kind; looks pretty and then is outta here.

I love that movie.... Great writing and great acting

I agree. One of the greats, and it amazes me that the movie won its only awards for the music (which is brilliant) while the direction, performances, writing, and photography won nothing. Just the delightful walk around the five and dime was worth SOMETHING!

COLD CASE had a rerun tonight which I hadn't seen, a moving story with a very surprising murderer.

Dan - There is the famous medley:

Where tree-tops glisten
And children listen
To hear werewolves in the snow...

Werewolves in the snow
Exchanging glances
Werewolves in the snow
Exchanging glances

So if anyone makes that movie, there is a ready made theme song.

And DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, well, good and bad. More about that tomorrow after others have weighed in.

Good Evening!

WHEW!

Nothing like a snow day to help one be productive!  Let's see...

-I got all but two boxes/piles of "Nick stuff" put away and/or hidden.
-I set up my IKEA shelving in my room.  And now I have so much more room in my room.
-I went ahead and dug out my car.  Since it was powdery snow, it was not that difficult a task.  *And it felt great to get out of the apartment for a while.
-I went to Pathmark to buy vacuum cleaner bags and recycling "trash" bags.
-I went to the Chinese place around the corner and picked up some dinner - the Hot & Spicy Chicken Combo (comes with an egg roll and pork fried rice) and Hot & Sour Soup.
-I ate my dinner.  :)
-I vacuumed the living room.
-And I just started a load of laundry.

So, as far as getting my room set up, I just have to transfer the contents of one my storage bins to the dresser, and then put the rest of the "Nick stuff" away.  *Even my roomies were amazed at how much stuff I got done in there today.

Oh...

-And I caught up on the rest of the posts so far today.

;)

...And I was just chatting with a friend of mine who works behind the scenes at Encores!, and it's looking like this past weekend's presentation of Kismet may have been their highest attended and highest grossing show in the Encore's series so far.  -And they had another quite full house today with just a few cancellations due to the weather.

...And while walking around my neighborhood earlier, a very wonderful thought kept running through my head:  There's no other place I'd rather be right now than here in New York City.

Well, time to attend to the laundry, and take a nice, long, hot shower...

Laters...

I am delighted KISMET has done so well, but I'm surprised attendance wasn't adversely affected by the weather. Way to go!

DR JRand, you posted early this morning about Ann Blyth in KISMET and seemed to have a bit of doubt that it was her real singing voice used on the soundtrack. Yes, she really did have that soprano voice. I remember seeing her sing on variety shows like Red Skeleton, so it was Ann doing her own singing in KISMET and ROSE MARIE. She was dubbed for some mysterious reason by Gogi Grant for THE HELEN MORGAN STORY, but the credits clearly identified that it was Gogi doing the singing there, one of the few times a dubber got screen credit.

Added another film to the DVR today: THE UPSIDE OF ANGER with Joan Allen and Kevin Costner. This movie got good reviews especially for the two leads (surprising in Costner's case), so I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Other movies that would work and that were playing somewhere on Hollywood Blvd between those dates: Village of the Damned, The Time Machine, Inherit The Wind, Midnight Lace, Portrait in Black, High Time or Pollyanna.  Just need to know what theater they were in - extra points for the Vogue.

Well, BK, I don't suppose it does you any good to know where THE TIME MACHINE played in Redondo Beach back in 1960; but I believe it was The Strand.

For the DRs who picked up that 50 DVD pack of movie musicals awhile back, there is another nifty one out now called DARK CRIMES...50 vintage film noir, mystery, and thrillers on DVD...some basic titles like STRANGE LOVE OF MARTHA IVERS and DOA, but most are ones I have never heard of...THE CAPTURE with Lew Ayres, THE LIMPING MAN with Lloyd Bridges, PLEASE MURDER ME with Raymond Burr and Angela Lansbury, THE WRONG ROAD with Helen Mack...just a nice assortment of films from the early 30s up through the 1950s...a couple of them are British films and a few are actually episodes the live TV program STUDIO ONE...I just watched one episode which starred Robert Sterling. Fun.

I got all 50 movies for just $22.99.

AOL - just up and quits whenever it feels like it, then you can't log on and then you have to restart your computer and IT JUST SUCKS TURD.

I've scarcely heard anything good about AOL. Anywhere.

MBarnum, I don't like them packaging TV episodes on there and calling them movies, although it is still a bargain package, no doubt.

Good Evening!

Well... I don't seem to have any problems with AOL.

And have I also mentioned that my 1993 Ford Escort actually gets better gas mileage now than when it was new - averages 40 mpg on the highway!

Thank You, Ford!

Thank You, AOL!

;D

BK - One "workaround" for AOL is to start Safari first, and then start AOL.  Sometimes there is a conflict with the internet protocol  when AOL starts by itself - and that happens on PCs too.

Well, my dinner was very good.

My laundry is currently in the dryer, and I shall deal with the dry clothes in the morning.

My long, hot shower was restorative.

And I'm currently having a cup of chamomile tea.

Aaaahhh...

I'm jealous.  I have a '98 Escort and I only get 32-34 mph at the most.  Does this mean that my gas milage will improve??  That would be nice. :)

I have a Chevy Prizm that gets around 40 mpg....

Will never own a FORD again... I had a bad experience with  Tempo and I was not impressed especially when it had to have 4000 in repairs in less than three months.

Flashback to December 30th, 2005...

Quote
Might I just say I HATE STUPID SCUM-SUCKING BUTT CHEEK AOL!  AOL is RIDICULOUS and I have HAD IT.  I do believe a New Year's resolution will be to rid myself of the amateur, hideous, creepy, inept AOL.  I've had it since I've been on the computer, for nine years or so.  I've kept it just for e-mail, really.  But, I'm about to send out mass e-mails with new e-mail addresses, because I just cannot stand it any longer.

Time to keep the New Years resolution maybe??

Enough ranting, it ain't getting any better...time for action!!

I'm working on it, dear reader Ann, I'm working on it.

Thanks to Dakota Celt I have just spent the last two hours in nostalgia heaven on the Cinema Treasures site - looking and reading about all my childhood movie theaters.  Amazing site!
