Well, you've read the notes, you are now dressing for our annual Oscar Bash, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they'll be watching the Oscars, too, and will have plenty to say about the gowns.
-
And the word of the day is: PANDOWDY!
-
Oscar Day Postin'! Let it begin!!!
-
A low moment, I don't remember what year it was, but some young ingenues who had good agents were paraded onstage as "Oscar Winners of the Future." I wonder if any of them even amounted to anything.
Also Billy Crystal calling out "We love you" to Bill Murray, reinforcing the idea that a person's life is incomplete without an Oscar.
-
Let the Par-tay begin!!
DR Rod, I met my freind Cassie through Big Blue Marble. You could write in for a Pen friend and they asked what country and I said Ireland. Cassie adn I have been writing and now IMing back and forth since.... Her hubby will no longer let us talk on the phone despite her now living in the US>.... We had a very long, long distance conversation that lasted four hours....
-
one of hte wildest moments was when they had a Streaker run across the stage.. .I remember hearing about that and it was in the early 70s.
-
I agree on DAYS, DakotaCelt. The person who bothers me to no end though is Roman or John or whatever his name is. Drake Hogestyn. One of the most annoying actors known to mankind. I haven't watched the show in ages, but I can't even see that guy in a commercial.
-
That's awesome Dakota. When I found that LP, I called one of my sisters and played her the theme over the phone. She had two pen pals she met through that show. One in France and one in Iraq! Another of my sisters had a pen pal in Thailand and they stayed in touch for years.

I am not a DRake fan... He exists...
I really Like Matt Ashford, Melissa Reeves and many of the actors taht Days had in the past like Charles Shaughnessy, Stephen Nichols, and Mary Beth Evans...
Sadly, I feel sorry for many of the veteran actors for the show was once relatively well written. The present writer is an abomination to the craft and to all writers in general.

Thanks for posting that album cover... I have nicked it to send my friend Cassie, if that is okay. My friend Cassie grew up in Belfast and Dublin.. She has told me of the violence in Belfast in the 70s and early 80s.
She also introduced me to Irish music

I bought some LPs last night - a sealed stereo copy of the cast album of A Time For Singing - still unreleased on CD. A rare Stanley Myers soundtrack from his golden period. Two EPs of songs from the London production of South Pacific, which starred Mary Martin along with a bunch of Brits. Don't know if these recordings have ever been released on CD or even in the US. And a spoken word recording of James Thurber's The Wonderful O, with incidental music by my old friend Ray Henderson, with narration by Burgess Meredith and a cast that includes Ken Berry. And a later pressing, sealed and stereo, of A Thurber Carnival - I have the original pressing but when I went to transfer it to CD it was very scratchy.
-
Perhaps today I'll play my "Marcy Sings" LP.
-
Does the "pen pal" concept even exist anymore? Not like it did then. Big Blue Marble harkens back to a time when world unity seemed like an actual possibility. At least there was a certain amount of optimism displayed in getting kids excited about learning other cultures.
-
I recall the Thurber Carnival as being a part of the Kritzerland saga, if memory serves.
-
Sweet Marcy.
Sweet, creepy Li'l Marcy!

Sadly no... There was a certain mystery and joy in writing with someone from another country. IN a way the net has demystified that. Then again have we learned anything from that experience... Soem have, but other refuse to learn that lesson and experience the curiousity of learning a new culture, language and even music.
-
I thought of you the other day, BK in searching through a 99-cent box of LPs, there was one labelled a "Test Pressing" of some Broadway show on Varese. Or it might have been a movie soundtrack. Of course the name escapes me now. It was a show/movie I had not heard of. I wondered if you had any involvement and so forth, but what in blue blazes good is it to wonder now if I can't remember the name of the thing?
-

I am getting very intrigued about these books and I will have to add them to my summer reading list. I hope they are available yet up here.
-
Yes, on the flipside, I can now have instant communication with someone who lives in North Dakota, talk pop music with a dude in Australia, etc.
Still, there's nothing like getting a letter.
-
It is nigh 4am here, and I'd best be off to sleep that I may remain alert during the Oscar telecast. Peace.
-

I agree... There isnt...
The feel of the paper and the excitement of opening an envelope from a faraway place... the stamps... the handwriting, etc...
-
Hmmm.... The record is 915
We are sitting at 21 posts.... Less than 900 to attain last years record... but wouldn't it be cool if we hit 1000 posts....
Nighters everyone!
-
Yes, A Thurber Carnival looms large in Kritzer Time - it was one of the shows that hugely influenced me. "I'd like you to meet Miss Gorce - Miss Gorce is in the embalming game." "Well, if I dialed the wrong number, why did you answer the phone?" "I said, 'Why don't you wait here and I'll bring the etchings DOWN.'"
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
PANDOWDY, baby, PANDOWDY! That's what I'M talkin' about.
-

He is the master of smelling-a-fart school of acting: whenever you forget a line, and he does often from the few I've caught, look as if you've smelled something really bad till you remember it.
Good morning, all! I'm off to Toyland shortly, and then home for the day working on Ms Ziemba's chart. I was going to see GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK THIS AFTERNOON, but after CAPOTE I need a day before seeing another serious film.
DR Ben, Ron Raines called me last night raving about GREY GARDENS. He, too, thought Ms Ebersole was great. After working with her in Chicago, I think I'll pass on seeing her show. I'd rather spend my money on something else.
I'll be in and out tonight: at 8:00 I'm watching SLINGS AND ARROWS on Sundance, and that's more important to my scheme of things than the vanity and competition of the Oscars. Our DR MattH is all set to gives us a running red carpet treatment so I'll have missed nothing, unless someone's breast pops out of a gown. Perhaps DR Matt H will have video at 11?
-

And Marlena! I've only caught a few episodes in the past two months in the afternoons working at home, but the idea of any men competing for the affections of that affected ice princess is too funny for words, almost as funny as believing some of the nelly boys on that and PASSIONS are straight. Or actors.
-
I recall the Thurber Carnival as being a part of the Kritzerland saga, if memory serves.
I loved the Thurber Carnival cast album. I lament the loss of the spoken word catalog: none of the Columbia play recordings are on CD, and HarperColins is pathetic with the old Caedmon catalogue: I'd love CDs of their SCHOOL FOR SCANDAL with Gerladine McEwen, MARAT/SADE, TARTUFFE from the Stratford Festival, and others. RCA also had Congreve's LOVE FOR LOVE, Olivier's OTHELLO (I believe). and a few more. Which label had WAY OF THE WORLD?
-

"How can I be overdrawn when I have all these checks left?"
"You can call it sleepwalking, but I say she's promiscuous."
-
Oscar Night! I won't be around until around 7 or so.....but I will be here. Work LOOMS.
-
I have the Banana Splits album as well - and a great CD of songs from THE BEAGLES, thanks to DR RODZINSKI.
I also have the Lancelot Link LP - their music video to Rollin' In the Clover made me laugh and Laugh and LAUGH!!
-
Oh mighty Isis.....turn around and around and around!

Favorite Oscar Moment:
Several, but they include:
Louise Fletcher signing her acceptance speech so her deaf parents could read it. :'(
Jane Fonda's acceptance speech for KLUTE. ;)
The year they had ALL the past winners sitting on a dais in chairs....although it was sad, too. :-\
WORST OSCAR MOMENTS:
A very sad looking Deborah Kerr coming out onstage after a showing of a LOT of clips of her looking young and beautiful. :'(
ANY moment with Dustin Hoffman. :P
The "coincidence" of Luise Rainer making an appearance at the ceremony the year that FRANCES was nominated in several categories, the movie which portrayed her ex-husband's affair with Frances and put her in unflattering light. ::)
Two great musical moments;
Ann-Margret dancing to BACHELOR IN PARADISE :o
And Isaac Hayes' performance of SHAFT the year it was nominated. 8)
-
And of course, we must dress accordingly for the HHW OSCAR BASH.

Good morning!
Beautiful but nippy day here. And the temps are goping to plunge later in the week which really surprised me! Maybe that'll kill that grass that's been growing and asking to be mowed. I'd rather Jack Frost do it for me.
-
Sure does look like what Julie wore the year she won for MARY POPPINS.
-
I remember Angela Lansbury tearing the house down doing "Thoroughly Modern Millie" at the Oscars. One of the all-time best song and dances ever staged there.
-
Yes, that streaker happened in 1974. David Niven was just about to announce Elizabeth Taylor who was coming on to present Best Picture (THE STING won that year), and after it happened and Liz came out, she claimed she was jealous of the attention that fool had just gotten.
I remember Liz wearing a stunning yellow gown that made her violet eyes pop on color TV. She looked amazing that night.
-
One memorable speech I recall was Howard Ashman's lover who came up to accept the Oscar for Best Song for "Beauty and the Beast." Howard had already died, and it was a very brief but moving moment hearing him speak of the love they shared.
-
After suffering through DOGVILLE last night, I started doing some surfing on the net last night finding out how others felt about it (I seem to definitely be in the minority). One thing that shocked me was how much was spent making this movie.
Now, granted, it had several big name actors in major roles, but still, this was a single studio set with minimal costume, set, and prop requirements. This film cost $83 million!
Who in their right mind would think this kind of parable story done in a very muted style, lasting three hours would ever be able to make back anything like what it cost to make?
It grossed $2 million.
-
I am looking forward to the oscars, even though i have not seen many of the movies or performances. I am curious though why so many people are saying Reese Witherspoon will beat Felicity Huffman for Best Actress. I really hope Felicity wins (even though i like reese). And I actually think she will win.
Btw, I am also looking forward to seeing the dresses!
-
Reese has won quite a few awards recently for WALK THE LINE including beating Felicity at the SAG Awards and at the BFATA (British Academy) Awards a week or so ago. She's also in a much more seen movie than Felicity's.
You have to remember that Oscars quite often aren't awarded just on the basis of quality but rather a combination of many factors.
That said, I do think this will be one of the closer contests of the evening.
-
Well, I'm all alone here once again!
HELLO!
Hello!
hello . . . . . .
-
I am soooo over the oscars. Have been for the last 10 years or so.
-
Hi DR MATTH!
I am on my way to work. I have five cd's of movie music. We will be wearing our 1999 Academy Award hanging badges that a friend who worked for E! then had when he was at the ceremony...and I will put up a board so the customers can vote on their favorites.
I will have the World of Wisdom results this evening.
IT is Academy Award Day at World Of Wisdom Bookstore.
Thanks for the JA info, DR MS....I didn't know that! I thought they were newly posed photos! Interesting!
-
Oddest Oscar moment that i remember was when Fay Wray was asked to stand up in the audience and she looked like the proverbial deer staring into headlights.
Also when no songs from SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER were nominated, didn't they do a very very strange dance routine to a discoed-up version of "How Deep Is Your Love?" - or was that in another year when they were doing songs that weren't even nominated?
One of my favorite Oscar moments was when they were doing a schtick about stars' internal thoughts and they focused on Judi Dench and her supposed internal thought was "This thong is killing me." The joke was OK but the good-sport reaction on the Dame's face was simply priceless.
Were both of the above Billy Crystal moments? I can't quite remember.
-
Re the Rob Lowe moment with Snow White - I had just seen BEACH BLANKET BABYLON in Las Vegas not too long before that Oscars show, and I remember thinking it was odd that they were giving that kind of exposure to that show, so i wasn't focusing on the awfulness, just my bewilderment about the fact of what show they were giving such a big worldwide plug. Having just seen the show in Vegas, I didn't appreciate while watching the Oscars that I was watching one of the great camp moment of the late 20th century. I was surprised that it became such a hot topic for so long and had such an effect on Rob Lowe's "reputation." So glad he's able to laugh it off at this point.
-
I mentioned this last year, but it still makes me laugh to thnk about it.
The year Miss Piggy wasn't nominated for Best Actress for THE MUPPET MOVIE, she was asked to introduce "The Rainbow Connection" on the show. Before she did that, host Johnny Carson came over to talk with her a little bit. She was miffed, of course, about not being nominated.
Miss Piggy: "But tell me, Jonathan, don't you think I deserve an Oscar"?
Johnny: "Oscar Meyer, maybe."
Miss Piggy: "Watch it, Carson."
-
Good morning everyone! I can't believe I slept in so late today- Rodzinski is still conked out but that makes sense when I see how late he was up posting.
-
Good Morning!
Catching up from late last night...
Ah... Michael Gray played Billy Batson on "Shazam"...
And Jackson Bostwick (any relation to Barry?) played Captain Marvel in the first season, and John Davey played him in the second and third seasons.
Ah, the joys of Google!

Sunday greetings! Getting ready to go to Dayton's Victoria Theatre for the matinee of the touring Thoroughly Modern Millie. We have to get there early enough to go to the box office and try to change our tickets for the next show, Movin' Out. Our assigned time is 2pm on April 9, which is the day I'm going with my mom and my aunt and their retirement community neighbors to Erich Kunzel's 40th anniversary concert with the Cincinnati Pops.
-
I would say I'm pretty "over" the oscars- and most other award shows for that matter- the only exception is when I have an opportunity to watch with friends, as I do tonight!
-
Well, I doubt I'll ever be over the Oscars despite how angry I get sometimes at the ridiculous choices or how disappointed I sometimes am by what gets looked over.
I've watched them ever since I was old enough to stay up that late, and I guess that will probably never change. It's a fun guessing game, and I guess I have to keep reminding myself that it is, like such much in our competition-hungry culture, just another contest.
Nice thing for ABC that they don't have to worry about DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES oir GREY'S ANATOMY stealing audience from the Oscar telecast. It's the same network so those shows aren't on tonight!
-
One memorable speech I recall was Howard Ashman's lover who came up to accept the Oscar for Best Song for "Beauty and the Beast." Howard had already died, and it was a very brief but moving moment hearing him speak of the love they shared.
That year had my favorite moment, too, DR MattH - the performance of that song (or was it "Be Our Guest"?) with Jerry Orbach as Lumiere.
-
Rodzinski and I usually make a bet with eachother where we pick our winners for the major categories (who we think will will, not who we think deserves to win- not always the same). The person who gets the most right wins, and the loser buys the winner the CD of their choice. It's nice to be able to add a new CD to my collection at this time every year. :)
-
OH! And the main page is quite informative too!
http://www.70slivekidvid.com/ (http://www.70slivekidvid.com/)
AH!!! How could I have forgotten "The Bugaloos" (now there's a theme song that sticks in your head!), and "Sigmund & The Sea Monsters"!
....With more info here:

Other odd Oscar moments. Susan Hayward and John Wayne each made their last public appearances presenting Oscars at the ceremony mere weeks before they died.

That sounds like fun.
I have a contest with myself. I give myself two choices in the top categories and award myself three points if I get it with the first choice and 2 points if I get it with the second choice.
A perfect score is 21. Two years ago (the LORD OF THE RINGS: RETURN OF THE KING year), I scored all 21 points for a perfect score. Last year, I got everything on the first choice except Best Song which I missed entirely. Thus, last year my score was 18.

Page Three Oscar Dance!
This is Howard Koch accepting his Oscar for co-writi
ng CASABLANCA. The Oscar he's hold ing unique for two reasons.
1. It's the old design with a smaller base than they have now. The design was changed in 1946.
2. During the war years, Oscars were made of plaster which were spray painted. After the war the plaster Oscars were exchanged for gold plated ones.
-
Heading down now to prep lunch and watch something interesting on video.
WBBL.
-
While I normally hate the Oscarcast these days, the chance to watch and then attend the haineshisway.com Oscar Bash is too much fun, priceless, and it's made the whole sorry thing a true event and the Oscars should THANK us. Damn them, damn them all to hell.
-
Yes, having the HainesHisWay Oscar party does make it all that much more fun!
-
...but I hardly think we will get t o1000 posts seeing as how I am the only one in the jernt!
But perhaps everyone is busy girding their loins for the Oscar telecast.
-
Hmmm...still the only one here...maybe this is not the place to be on Oscar day...I just don't know.
-
Off to New Jersey now to visit Dear Friend Leslie. I hope to be back in time for the Oscars, but considering I haven't seen many (any?) of this year's nominees, I may not have much to contribute to the HHW Oscra bash.
-
Did I just write Oscra instead of Oscar.
As in Uma, Oscra.
-
You don't have to have seen any of the films to contribute to the Oscar Bash - that's the fun of the Oscar Bash.
Last year's Oscar pre-show here at haineshisway.com started off very slowly - but as soon as the official pre-show started, the jernt was jumpin' like it's never jumped before. Now, all these excuse-making hainsies/kimlets better knock it off and be here or there will be a bitch-slapping from here to eternity and hell and back.
-
I'm here, but I'm just checking to make sure everything is in readiness for tonight.
Ready! :D
-
Check out MBarnum trying to goad us into more posts!
-
It is with some trepidation that I look forward to the Robert Altman segment tonight. I never feel these types of clip retrospectives do any justice to a career. But I hope they don't just focus on M*A*S*H and NASHVILLE and GOSFORD PARK, but dig into some of the other crazy stuff that guy did. I want clips from BUFFALO BILL AND THE INDIANS, BREWSTER McCLOUD, IMAGES, QUINTET, THAT COLD DAY IN THE PARK...
-
He is the master of smelling-a-fart school of acting: whenever you forget a line, and he does often from the few I've caught, look as if you've smelled something really bad till you remember it.
LOL DR Elmore.... He also has the eyebrow thing going too...
-
I have to work at 330 but I will check in and still take part in the merriment from time to time...
-
Larry, I remember you mentioning the problems with CE in Chicago. I actually was thinking about that as I was watching the show. It's quite wonderful and exciting but I understand your reasons for not seeing it (or her).
As Michael Shayne said earlier, I am so over the Oscars. I will post here about some of the shenanigans and a friend in Ann Arbor always has a party and she sends out ballots. I partake because it's my dear friend Alison but that's it. Althought it seems like this year there is actually a better crop of films, (I know I've said this before but it still holds true for me) but I think that so much of what comes out of Hollywood is just garbage (IMHO) and I can't sit through the trailers let alone an entire film. I would rather spend $30 for a seat in a theatre than spend $10.50 to suffer through crappy commercials, bad trailers and a mediocre to perhaps decent film. Seeing Grey Gardens last night only reaffirmed my feelings.
The only films I have seen this year that are nominated are Harry Potter, Brokeback Mountain and March of the Penguins. Anthony saw those and Mrs. Henderson Presents. I do admit there are some films I want to see like Good Night and Good Luck, Capote, Enron, The Smartest Guys in the Room, but there isn't much else I feel drawn to see. And I can see them in the comfort of my living room when they arrive on DVD.
That's it. Rant over. I will not rain on the happy parade of HHW on Oscar Day, except to say I think Joan Rivers is a sad caricature of her old, used-to-be talented self.
Later! And I really am a happy person, not the curmudgeon that may seem to come from the post above ;D
-
Also Billy Crystal calling out "We love you" to Bill Murray, reinforcing the idea that a person's life is incomplete without an Oscar.
Gosh I interpreted that as….you should have won. ;D
-
I shall now be on my way to see Sweeney Todd, after which I shall return to our Oscar Bash - post away.
-
A special Oscar moment, watching Roberto Benigni as his name was announced for best actor. ;D In fact he won so many, well deserved, awards his joy was overflowing. :D

One of my favorite Oscar moments was when Anna Paquin won as Supporting Actress for THE PIANO. She became all little girly and started crying and sobbing. It was a rare sweet and sincere moment on the show.

I forgot all about that... Yes, that was a sweet moment..
-
I just remembered Bette Middler's reading nominations for some category and one of them was "from that endless movie, ENDLESS LOVE."
-
My favorite speeches have usually been from surprise winners who haven't prepared anything and thus speak from their hearts.
-
I watched two entertainment items this afternoon, both of which I've watched many times before.
First up was DESK SET. Since I've seen the movie so much (and that DVD transfer is stunning; one of the best ones they've ever done, I think), I turned on the commentary track and there was Dina Merrill running on and on about her career with only a few anecdotes about DESK SET specfically. She mentioned liking Spencer Tracy, Hepburn, Joan Blondell, and Sue Randall so much and told a few stories. She liked Walter Lang, the director, but many of her stories had to do with other films she's done, other directors she's worked for, and other stars she knows and sees often. She's a lovely lady, but her commentary really didn't amount to much.
-
Favorite Oscar moment (and I have said it before): When Patricia Neal's name was announced and the curtain opened with her on stage, after nearly dying from those destructive strokes. The tears, love, and emotions; and the seemingly endless standing ovation were one of the true genuinely emotional highpoints in Oscar's history.
-
Next up was my favorite Joan Hickson/Miss Marple entry, NEMESIS. I don't know exactly why it's my favorite. Miss Marple plays a more important part in it than in some others. NEMESIS was the first Agatha Christie mystery I ever read having bought it from a book store on Fifth Avenue the summer of its release when I was visiting NYC (or it might have been the summer after its release the previous year; hard to remember exactly). Didn't quite get to the end, but I'll probably finish it when I go back downstairs before I flip over to the Oscar arrival shows.
-
Other unique Altman achievements: HEALTH, A WEDDING (whcih I really loved), SHORT CUTS, THREE WOMEN.
-
Oh, I'm sure they'll show scenes from McCABE AND MRS. MILLER and THE PLAYER since they were two of his biggest hits.

BREWSTER MCLOUD remains one of the weirdest movies that I have ever seen in my life. It was one of those rare moments from the late sixties, early seventies that was not improved by the presence of marijuana.
-
I am glad Robert Altman is getting his due, however. You know, they never did honor Hitchcock with a special Oscar while he was alive. He won the Irving Thalberg Award (which is for producing and is a bust of Thalberg's head, not an Oscar statuette). One of the Academy's most terrible oversights.
-
Well, I'm heading down now to tend to a few chores before settling in with the Oscar arrival shows.
Should be back in about an hour.
-
Good Afternoon!
Just been watching my niece and nephew for the past couple of hours. Actually, we've all been watching The Disney Channel for the past couple of hours. They've been showing some clips/videos from "High School Musical", and I think I may have to set aside some time to watch it. It looks like fluff, but fun fluff. In fact, this Friday, they are having a special "Dance-Along" presentation where the stars of "High School Musical" will teach you some of the steps from the movie, but you are also encouraged to "add your own flava" to the steps.
;)
-
What's been really 'cool' about the past couple of hours of watching The Disney Channel... Whenever one of the commercials for "High School Musical" would come on, but John Michael and Alyssa would start singing along. Apparently, it's become their favorite TV show, and they really dig the music. -And Uncle Jojo will be buying them the soundtrack so that they can listen to it in their personal CD players.
-
I have no idea.
Marisa Tomei?
Elizabeth Taylor. She played Helena Cassadine
-
But the best part of the afternoon has just been being able to spend some time with my niece and nephew. And surprisingly low maintenance too!
:)

That does sound tempting Jose, but you might want to hold out for a repeat of the Karaoke version of HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL that I watched. Actually, it was kind of fun -- mindless, but fun.

As for Grey Gardens... NPR ran an interview with the creators of the show during the closing segment of Weekend Edition this morning. If you go to www.npr.org (http://www.npr.org), you can listen to the interview as well as an extended song clip from the show.
-
That does sound tempting Jose, but you might want to hold out for a repeat of the Karaoke version of HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL that I watched. Actually, it was kind of fun -- mindless, but fun.
I believe the DVD will be coming out soon... And it will have both the Karaoke and Dance-Along versions on it.
Mindless fun - ain't that the best kind?
-
And, yes, I believe the pace of the posts will pick up exponentially once the Oscar telecast begins. And unlike the Tony's, there's no tape delay to worry about.
*And, remember, you still have a few hours to join in the "World's Largest Oscar Pool"...

I've set up a Private Group: HainesHisWay. And the password is what BK calls those of us who are not late night denizens, singular form.

-
Hello I just caught up
-
Belated birthday wishes to dear former reader Panni
-
But the best part of the afternoon has just been being able to spend some time with my niece and nephew. And surprisingly low maintenance too!
:)
Sounds like a fun afternoon... I saw the pic you posted yesterday. They are cuties....
I will try and check in from time to time... Oddly busy here today at the library.
-
Gosh I interpreted that as….you should have won. ;D
There was that aspect too, which pretty much insulted the person who did win.
-
The Vixter's 30 Hour famine was a rousing success and the 20 kids ages 13 -17 that participated were very happy to finally sit down to dinner at 6 PM last night.
The Vixter collected $410 in donations all on her lonesome and the gropup collected a total of $575 and seven shopping carts full of nonperishable items from customers of the the five supermarkets where they stood for three hours in the 40 degree temps with the wind blowing.
A nice dedicated bunch of kids. Next week we will learn the dollar total collected by the group as a whole.
-
I will proabably not be in here while the OSCARS are on as the computer and the TV are incseparate rooms and Vixdad loathes the Oscars or any award show for that matter, so if I have control of the TV he will have control of the computer ... I imagine playing a rousing game of Empereror, Battle for Dune
-
I believe the DVD will be coming out soon... And it will have both the Karaoke and Dance-Along versions on it.
Mindless fun - ain't that the best kind?
No, I believe sex is the best kind of fun!
-
DakotaCelt is the answer for your "Irish" trivia question The Coors?
-
There was that aspect too, which pretty much insulted the person who did win.
yeah, that's what I though too
-
Oh no, we'll miss you Vixmom.
Here we have ordered a feast of Chinese food to eat as we watch. I have the same love for the Oscars as Vixdad and Ben, but HainesHisWay makes it fun, and I am introducing TPunk to the fun this year.
Which is worse, Joan and Whoever Rivers doing the red carpet or Ryan Seacrest? Nails on a chalkboard or a fork scraping across fine china?
-
No, I believe sex is the best kind of fun!
Sex might just BE mindless for some folks! ;D
-
I always wondered if a presenter ever annouced the wrong "winner" I am sure there has been strong temptation to....
and wasn't there one Oscar moment where the presenter came out and just immediately ripped open the envelope and announced the winner, completley ommiting the opening patter and the reading of the nominees?
-
I always wondered if a presenter ever annouced the wrong "winner" I am sure there has been strong temptation to....
Some say it happened the year Marisa Tomei won.
-
Oh no, we'll miss you Vixmom.
well if he goes to bed early I'll jump in during commericals... any body renting out wireless laptops for the eveing?
Here we have ordered a feast of Chinese food to eat as we watch. I have the same love for the Oscars as Vixdad and Ben, but HainesHisWay makes it fun, and I am introducing TPunk to the fun this year.
I went with BBQ ribs this year!
Which is worse, Joan and Whoever Rivers doing the red carpet or Ryan Seacrest? Nails on a chalkboard or a fork scraping across fine china?
Oh lordy!! They are both awful... I can't actually watch the preshow, I may dip in here and there, but sit down and watch.... can't do it!
-
;D
Some say it happened the year Marisa Tomei won.
;D
-
Does the ceremony start at 8:00ET/5:00PT? Or is that what time the pre-show starts?
-
Well If I'm gonna see the Oscars I better get dinner in these people so I can totally ignore them for the rest of the night LOL!
-
Ceremony at 8, supposedly.
-
I am really looking forward to the Oscars. And the pre-show fashions. I'll have to watch on ABC since I don't get any of the other pre-shows. :(
I just hope i can make it up (doesn't it usually go till midnight?). I had a drip in my throat and took a non-drowsy pill. Should have known those always make me fall dead asleep.
-
Sex might just BE mindless for some folks! ;D
Depends on what you're thinking with!
-
Just watched Mizrahi interviewing Matt Dillion. His interviewing is rambling. Matt looked good. George Clooney was moving around in the background and he looked even better.
-
Joan just interviewed Amy Adams. Her eyes were heavily made up, but she looked great. The dress resembled a little like Julia Roberts' dress the year she won.
-
Well gang, I am going to miss the bog bash at HHW tonight. I'm going to a very relaxed no boys allowed oscar party. Well, it isn't really no boys allowed, they just aren't invited!! Anyway, I have to run. I need to stop at the store and pick up something to take - other than a bottle of wine. If it wasn't so tacky I would consider taking my laptop, but my mother taught me better manners than that
-
Tom O'Neil is with Joan and Meliisa on the TV GUIDE channel. He used to be on E! with them, but since they went over to another channel, I guess he went with them.
-
FJL - no you weren't rude at all yesterday. I saw your name and did the post, but signed off shortly after that, so even if you had responded, I probably would have been gone
-
Well., gotta run. Have fun, I'll check in when I get home. I'm already tired. I worked at the office for 4 hours then worked hard around the house for 4 hours....then soaked in a wonderful hot bath....Calgon take me away.....
-
The ABC telecast is going to be in high definition, so I'm happy about that.
-
Lee Majors just stepped up to talk to Joan Rivers, and she introduced him as Larry McMurtry.
-
SOme woman was just walking down the red carpet. her hair was chartreuse. Could that be Edy Williams? Didn't have enough time to see for sure.
-
Verbatim moment:
Gary Busey: Do you know why men chase women they have no intention of marrying?
Joan Rivers: Why?
Busey: The same way a dog chases a car he has no intention of driving.
Joan Rivers: Gary, stick to acting.
Busey: Huh?
-
Dolly Parton has on a pink dress. She looks good.
-
Keira Knioghtley has on a necklace that looks like a peacock's tail.
-
Eric Bana, hunk of the world!
-
I like Amy Adams's dress- I think it was reminiscent of Julia's dress but structurally different. And it looked to me like it was dark brown.
-
Michelle Williams has on a deep yellow dress, but I don't think it goes well with her blonde hair.
-
Isaac Mizrahi (sp?) is oh so painful to behold, I had to switch back to the Riverses.
-
Well, they hire these people because they AREN'T great interviewers. In their nervousness, no telling what they'll say.
-
DakotaCelt is the answer for your "Irish" trivia question The Coors?
Nope... The Chieftains, they won for part of the score they did for Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon in 1976
-
I'm just glad Star Jones isn't there any more. I'm not a fan of hers.
-
Yup I am with Joan and Melissa all the way.
Dolly looked great. I love DOLLY!!
And now the World of Wisdom Academy Award Day Results:
-
We only voted in three categories:
Best Actor: Joaquin Phoenix, no one else even close
Best Actress: Reese Witherspoon followed closely by Felicity Huffman
Best Picture: Brokeback Mountain in a runaway with Crash and Goodnight and Good Luck tied for second place.
-
I'm just glad Star Jones isn't there any more. I'm not a fan of hers.
Amen! Thank you, Lord! ;D
-
David Straitharn wearing a hook & eye tie not a TIE tie....grrrrrrrrrrrr
-
Ben Stiller needs a haircut.
-
Bennett Miller director of Capote....looking GOOD! Nice white shirt and regular tie.
-
My God, Melissa's dress is beautiful What color is that? Is the TV GUIDE channel in HD?
-
Sky shot....hope no one in that traffic is just trying to get to Kroger's.
-
No, no HD for TV GUIDE channel.
-
Did Joan Rivers just tell George Clooney he'd be going home with a little gold man and "it's not Jackie Chan"?
-
Obviously, the E! station is closer to the curb than TV GUIDE since we gets the stars with Joan after they've bee with Iziach.
-
Yup I am with Joan and Melissa all the way.
Dolly looked great. I love DOLLY!!
And now the World of Wisdom Academy Award Day Results:
Dolly is one of them timeless people
-
Did Joan Rivers just tell George Clooney he'd be going home with a little gold man and "it's not Jackie Chan"?
Yes, one of her more tasteful jokes. ::)
-
Not a huge fan of Joan.... I do like Melissa though...

AARRGGHH!!!! Yesterday, when I was ushering, my sister called and asked if she could borrow my computer keyboard. Her boyfriend Larry was testing another computer at her house, but she only has a wireless keyboard and it would be too much trouble to hook it all up on this other computer. So I said sure, go ahead. I had logged out of my computer, so all Larry had to do was turn off my computer and take the keyboard. He did. He returned it and when I went to turn on my computer last night, everything seemed fine.
Today, I turned on my computer and there was a problem! My control key didn't work! I use control-alt key combinations to start certain programs. I couldn't figure it out, so I just turned off my computer and jiggled all of the wires connecting to the back and when I turned it on, everything worked. BUT THERE WAS ANOTHER PROBLEM!!! I went to my e-mail and all of the e-mails in my main e-mail address in-box were gone!! Nothing was there except fifteen or so brand new e-mail addresses (and most were spam)! :P I don't know what happened. I called my sister and Larry was there (they were having lunch). He said that all he did was turn off my computer, take the keyboard and then put the keyboard back. I don't think he did anything...he actually built/assembled my computer, so he knows what he's doing. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary when I logged into my computer and e-mail. There were only about 30-40 e-mails in my inbox, and nothing contained life or death information, but still, it's damned frustrating to lose stuff like that. However, it's not as bad as a couple of years ago when my whole computer crashed and I lost EVERYTHING! So, I'm fairly luckly. :)
-
Lauren Hutton just said there were a lot of people outside the red carpet protesting BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN! That's the first real protests I'd heard about.
-
Jessica Alba's dress is gorgeous.
-
Whoh! Felicity Huffman has a VERY low cut black dress. Wow!
-
Jada Pinkett Smith has this startling indigo dress, very form fitting, and she looks great.
-

I hear ya I lost a lot when my puter crashed over a year ago...
-
I agree on DAYS, DakotaCelt. The person who bothers me to no end though is Roman or John or whatever his name is. Drake Hogestyn. One of the most annoying actors known to mankind. I haven't watched the show in ages, but I can't even see that guy in a commercial.
Drake is the most favorite (soap) actor of a woman that I work with!
-
Salma Hayek has a tight soft purple dress hat looks wonderful on her.
-
Well, they hire these people because they AREN'T great interviewers. In their nervousness, no telling what they'll say.
good point
-
Whoh! Felicity Huffman has a VERY low cut black dress. Wow!
I love it! and her hair and makeup look great.
-
I love it! and her hair and makeup look great.
I agree. She can look wonderful, and tonight she does.
-
I love that Sandra Bullock's dress has pockets- brilliant!
-
Nicole Kidman's dress is obviously expensive, but it's not eye-catching like some she's worn in years part.
-
I don't know from the Oscars, so I am planting tomatoe (a Dan Quayle reference) plants.
-
SW Ohio here, checking in for the Oscar bash! DH Richard and I thoroughly enjoyed Thoroughly Modern Millie at Dayton's Victoria Theatre this afternoon. We stopped and did a little shopping on the way home. We've had some dinner and now I'm settled in here in my computer/dressing room. The TV in here in a tiny B&W, so you all will have to tell me what color the dresses are!
-
Hi! Hey, my sister and I went to see TransAmerica today - wow. I don't care WHAT Reese Witherspoon "went through"... Felicity Huffman's performance is one of the great achievements. Yowza. What she did... in every way, off the charts. Hope she wins...
-
Der B and I just got back from a shopping trip. We're having to replace something the Dalmatian, Fletcher, broke.
What he broke was the toilet seat.
He's in the habit of getting nighttime slurps from the toilet. He sticks his nose under the seat, lifts it up, and drinks what he wants. Then he withdraws his head and BANG! the toilet seat comes down.
Well, he did it one time too many, and the seat cracked. For a while, der B and I tried to cope with the broken seat, but it pinched our... uh, thighs, that's it, it pinched our thighs. We toyed with the idea of using duct tape to work a repair, but in the end (remember, no groaning) getting a new seat won over.
Unfortunately, Home Depot was closed by the time we got going today. Hey, we were tired from yesterday's trip to Philly, we got going late. If Home Depot was closed, we figured Ames would be closed, too. That left us with... Super K Mart.
That place gives me the creeps. It's large and it's blindingly lit, and the workers there wander around like zombies. Still, they did have toilet seats. They had a wide variety of toilet seats.
They had white toilet seats. They had oak toilet seats. They had cheap plastic toilet seats like you find in gas station rest rooms. They had toilet seats with palm trees embroidered on the cover. In the end, we chose a padded toilet seat in a dusty shade of blue. I thought it kinda matched der Brucer's eyes.
He's installing the seat now. Hopefully, when Fletcher goes to get a drink tonight, and he will, the seat will fall down a little more quietly.
-
Not a huge fan of Reese Witherspoon's dress. It looks kind of puckery.
-
I switched over to the ABC preshow.
-
That marbling on Reece's dress kind of washes her out. Not impressive.
-
That was interesting. They used pipe tobacco in the cigarettes in GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK.
-
I saw a little bit with Felicity, but didn't get to see the back of her dress...hopefully, I'll get to see it as she's walking up the stairs to accept her award. ;)
-

Very impressive! Please tell the Vixter congratulations!
-
One memorable speech I recall was Howard Ashman's lover who came up to accept the Oscar for Best Song for "Beauty and the Beast." Howard had already died, and it was a very brief but moving moment hearing him speak of the love they shared.
I remember this and was surprised that they were so open about his "partner" accepting for Howard. I had tears in my eyes.
-
Drake is the most favorite (soap) actor of a woman that I work with!
GIVE ME MATT ASHFORD!!!!!!
I do have to give Drake credit for having guts. I did like the character of RoJohn at one time and especially with Isabella but not anymore..
My other favorites in daytime are Phil Carey, Stephen Nichols, Trevor st. John, John-Paul Lavoisier, Tuc Watkins.....
I also like Charles Shaughnessy
I am fascinated by the genre from the cultural aspect... However the writing really is not as good as it once was.. Days and Passions are becoming an embarrassment.
Days last great story was Cruise of Deception....
-
Jack Nicholson is sitting on the front row. We will see a lot of his reactions tonight.
-
Tuc Watkins, the most undervalued actor on daytime.
-
Jack Nicholson is sitting on the front row. We will see a lot of his reactions tonight.
I'm not a fan of Jack's. :P Why is he there? Is he presenting?
-
He must be presenting.
-
Tuc Watkins, the most undervalued actor on daytime.
Yes, along with Matt and a number of others. I wouldnot be upset if Matt left Days for greener pastures.
-
It's starting!!
-
Loved that animated opeing.
-
It's starting!!
I wish I could see it... I am stuck at work!!!
play by play from time to time would be nice....
-
Cute opening comedy sequence.
-
The opening sequence with the past hosts is really funny! Jon Stewart is very funny. ;D
-
Whew we got my dad a new television set and I have been helping my brother in law hook it up.....we had to do it wrong in order to do it right....even though I SAID > You can't have the television running INTO the VCR and expect to be able to watch a tape....you have to run the picture OUT of the VCR into the TV....duh!
Now everything is working...tv, vcr, AND DVD! Finally.
-
What the heck is growing out of Charlize Theron's shoulder!!??
-
Meryl behind George....looking nice....
-
The opening sequence with the past hosts is really funny! Jon Stewart is very funny. ;D
He is a card....
-
What the heck is growing out of Charlize Theron's shoulder!!??
Let me guess....
Attack of the fabric!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
FJL talked about the year Billy Crystal (or someone) did the old Steve Allen trick of talking and showing someone in the audience...
"The Academy is cracking down on people selling their screeners on EBAY...."
Close shot of Meryl....
-
John....hands down....
-
Yes, Charlieze's shoudler bow looks silly.
-
Matt Dillon looking good!!
-
Charlize....Charlize....Charlize....
Ray for white people....they said that last night on MAD Tv
-
What the heck is growing out of Charlize Theron's shoulder!!??
If she gets sleepy, she has a build-in pillow to rest her head.
-
Jake looks nice.
-
Nicole - give that girl a sandwich.
-
Yes, Matt Dillon is certainly aging nicely!
-
I'm here. I'm here!
Loved the Cowboy Montage. Amazing what some creative editing and musical underscoring can do!
:D
-
And Ryan Phillippe has grown up nicely too.
*And seeing Felicity Huffman break down on the red carpet after seeing the "Good Luck" clip from her fellow "Desperate Housewives"... Awwww..
-
And here comes the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor....
-
Judi Dench looks beautiful.
-
Yea!
-
Back just in time for the first Oscar - George Clooney
-
Well... I got that one wrong...
:(
;)
-
Supporting Actor not a great surprise but not my first choice.
-
Loved your descriptions of the pre-show, but not nearly enough, and I cannot see us topping last year's record, since there are so many Oscar WUSSBURGERS.
I'll run the TIVO of the start of the show.
-
The supporting actor has won his award and they started playing the music as soon as he got there!! What's that all about?? :o
-
George is devastatingly handsome.....devastating.
-
I was hoping for another, but happy with the winner. Neat guy.
-
How fast can we get to three hundred. George is STILL talking and the orchestra is getting LOUD
-
He's pontificating.
-
What's with the underscoring for his acceptance speech? Is that how they're indicating timing this year? Each actor gets 12 counts of 8?
;)
-
Naomi Watts is coming up - love her.
-
I saw a preview for Judi Dench's MRS HENDERSON PRESENTS...it looks good.
-
So, have we had any fashion faux pas?
-
Devastating....bring out the Bat Suit - let's see Matt Dillon try that on!!
-
I liked his speech. Just long enough.
-
Best dressed? Worst dressed? Biggest dip?
-
Sweeney Todd was pretty okay.
-
As I aid earlier, I saw a woman with purple hair, but I don't know who it was. She was only on camera for a second.
-
Who knew you could come from the TV series THE FACTS OF LIFE to winning an Academy Award...!
If only June Kenney had stuck it out in Hollywood who knows where she could have gone!
-
He's pontificating.
I didn't mind it. Sort of like when people still ask me what the Red Ribbon on my jacket means. Do we really need to be reminded that there are still some causes out there that have not been cured/solved/defeated?
-
Jessica Alba or Keira Knightley were my top two choices. Felicity Huffman probably third.
-
Sorry for my pontificating.
-
And as people around America rush back from the bathroom....
;D
-
Show's on again.
-
I liked that comedy spot about speeches.
-
I really liked the speech. Funny with a nice significant moment.
-
The Tom Hanks bit was cute.
-
Hmm... So who's responsible for Ben Stiller's bit? :-\
-
I am over 2000 miles away, and I am embarrassed for Ben Stiller.
-
"Hey, honey. I received my Oscar from Ben Stiller earlier tonight..."
-
Well, all that money spent on KING KONG paid off, I guess.
-
Kong is climbing the Empire State Building. That is all.
-
Now that I see the comparison between the King Kong and Narnia special effects, I guess I am glad that Kong won (even though that isn't what I originally voted for).
-
Hmm.. I guess everyone is getting underscoring tonight.
-
King Kong. I liked Spielberg's reaction to Stiller.
-
Reese...A for the Dress....C- for the hair...
-
WALLACE AND GROMIT has this sewn up.
-
Reece's dress is pretty, but ya, a different color would have been nicer.
-
Hurrah! I love W and G and clay animation!
-
As I said, no surprise there.
-
There's Moe and Larry...where's Curly.
The ties, boys, the ties!
-
Damn them, damn them all to hell. If any of these Academy IDIOTS had bothered to see Howl's Moving Castle it would have won. Interesting that the cameras cut to the winners PRIOR to them being announced.
-
Don't like Naomi's dress at all.
-
Did the dress guide say NO BRIGHT COLORS?
-
What happened to Naomi's dress? Is Kong backstage?
-
Take that gum out of Marc Anthony's mouth!
-
Yeah! Dolly! She makes me smile!
:)
-
Holy moley on rye, what has Dolly Parton done to herself???? She looks like Paris Hilton.
-
Guy Haines must sing this song on his next CD!
-
BK, Wallace and Gromit was very cute, but I was thinking it didn't really have much competion...maybe I need to see Howling Castle?
-
This is a song???
-
Uh - Dolly just left her contemporaries and her back up - far behind.
-
This is a song???
Not tonight, it isn't. 8)
-
I should just take the laptop in the other room where the TV is, but I get so much exercise this way.
-
Are they under the stage with the rest of the orchestra or is she singing to canned music/backup singers??
-
How many times does the word "travelin'" appear in this song.
-
What movie is this song from? I missed it.
-
I'm getting a headache from this song and Dolly's lips.
-
Dolly should FIRE her stylist.
-
It's over!!!
-
At least Dolly' song had a melody, something lacking in most nominees in recent years.
-
From TRANSAMERICA, DR MBARNUM
-
There were about four notes repeated ad nauseum, but I know what you mean.
-
Having just come from Sweeney Todd, melody is in the ear of the beholder.
-
What movie is this song from? I missed it.
TRANSAMERICA
-
Who knew you could come from the TV series THE FACTS OF LIFE to winning an Academy Award...!
And he was on a sitcom called "E/R" with "Battlestar Galactica"'s President Laura Roslin, even before "The Facts of Life."
-
Or should that be the ear of the behearer?
-
I think Naomi Watts is very pretty.
-
What little I saw of the gay cowboy clips was pretty funny.
-
From TRANSAMERICA, DR MBARNUM
LOL! Considering I just saw that movie last night I sure do forget fast!
-
ORPHEUM movie theater in a DIET COKE commercial!
-
That rap song from HUSTLE AND FLOW will no doubt be LOADED with melody.
-
The sitcom E/R also featured what other Academy Award nominee????
-
LOL! Considering I just saw that movie last night I sure do forget fast!
Don't you hate it when that happens?? ;)
-
How was the SWEENEY Anthony.....was he handsome? Did the Joanna have crossed eyes like on the tape?
-
I hate RAP. It's sub PAR, which, of course, is RAP spelled backwards.
Welcome six GUESTS. Come on in, the water's fine.
-
I'm just travelin' travelin' travelin' travelin' travelin travelin...
-
I think Naomi Watts is very pretty.
You liker her dress? She's a stunning woman.
-
I wish I'd stopped for some snacks on the way home.
-
John is good but his jokes are bombing.....
-
The sitcom E/R also featured what other Academy Award nominee????
Elliott Gould
-
That rap song from HUSTLE AND FLOW will no doubt be LOADED with melody.
I'd read that they will have special "TV friendly" lyrics. ;)
-
I'm just travelin travelin traveling....traveling on...
-
Baldwin brothers joke was great...but was it maybe in poor taste, didn't one of them just die? Oh well, I laughed
-
Look at those boys.....George Clooney is still the best looking man onstage so far.....and maybe of the night.....time will tell...
-
Martin looks like Anderson Cooper.
-
Six Shooter - so all the movies with cowboy titles in them are going to win? Watch Brokeback Mountain win best picture.
-
Was Elliot Gould nominated for something?
If so, then who ELSE in the cast of the sitcom E/R??????
-
I wish it was easier to see the shorts and documentaries prior to the awards.
-
Jada...dress A Hair: C-
-
useless useless bit usless waste of valuable air time STARS WE WANT STARS
-
We rarely get to see any of these shorts.
-
Peggy walks like she's walking behind the plow.
-
The Moon and The Sun. Another Cowboy title. Only kidding.
-
Hey I got the animated short correct...of course it was just a guess on my part.
-
1st Life Partner mention.
-
Howl's Moving Castle got robbed.
-
Martin looks like Anderson Cooper.
Yes...he does. ;)
-
How does one rob a moving castle????
-
Jennifer Aniston looks real good.
-
Why doesn't Jennifer Aniston ever try a real hair style?
-
Jennifer...Dress A Hair - D
-
Does Jennifer A. ever not look good?
-
MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA will win.
-
...But most of the costumes in "Geisha" were not authentic Japanese patterns or designs. :-\
-
No surprise there.
-
Colleen has Barbra's old hair!!!!
Good choice...but I like P/P costumes better.
-
Memoirs of a Geisha - costumes. STOP it.
-
Has anyone seen MEMIORS OF A GEISHA yet? I haven't but would like to.
-
Okay, time's up!!
The answer is Mary McDonnell who was nominated for PASSION FISH.
-
...But most of the costumes in "Geisha" were not authentic Japanese patterns or designs. :-\
EXACTLY!!!!
DRMATTH you are making some great calls! ;D
-
I've gotten four out of six right...so far. :)
-
Why do costumes designers always wear ugly dresses?
-
Look out - he's got a cell phone!!
-
Wow! I'm surprised Russell Crowe is there.
-
What the heck?
Just go buy a bunch of kimonos and such!
TPunk and I both missed that one. I had Pride and Prejudice. She had Mrs. Henderson...
-
Congrats to DR GEORGE
-
What's this? Motion pictures about real people???
Could they have come up with a broader topic?
Where was Franz Liszt in LISZTOMANIA!?
-
What was the point of that montage?
-
Nice montage....did I miss Carroll Baker as Jean Harlow, or was she forgotten on the slag heap of memory?
-
Wasn't Elliot Gould also on E/R. He was also an Oscar nominee for BOB AND CAROL AND TED AND ALICE.
-
LOl JRand, I wanted to like her dress, but I just couldn't!!
-
I hear that, DRMBARNUM.
-
WOW!
Just checked the standing in the Oscar Pool...
DR TPunk is in the lead 5 for 6!
You go girl!!!
And DRs Cillaliz, George and Dan (the Man) are right behind her with 4 correct so far.
-
Nice montage....did I miss Carroll Baker as Jean Harlow, or was she forgotten on the slag heap of memory?
Sorry to say forgotten, DR JRand.
-
Where was Dirk Bogarde as Liszt? Where was friggin' Larry Parks as Al Jolson?
-
Where was Dirk Bogarde as Franz Lizst and Cornel Wilde as Fredric Chopin?
-
Felicity Huffman's performance is one of the great achievements. Yowza. What she did... in every way, off the charts. Hope she wins...
Keith and I agree with you!!
-
A completely pointless Oscar montage. Whose idea was that?
-
Sorry to say forgotten, DR JRand.
Oh well..... 8)
-
What was the point of that montage?
They couldn't find enough clips for the montage: Movies with Actors in them.
-
Not MY idea.
-
Is every technical presentation going to involve a bit?
:-\
-
LOL....looks like what happens when I let the High School Boys do their own makeup at Putnam County Playhouse.
-
Is every technical presentation going to involve a bit?
:-\
Looks like it. ::)
-
I suspect NARNIA will win make-up.
-
Narnia wins an award.
-
Oh, YEAH! "Narnia" won... Too bad I picked "Star Wars" in the Oscar Pool.
-
They look GOOD....and a very nice speech!
-
I suspect NARNIA will win make-up.
Yup...I got that one wrong. :-\
-
I suspect NARNIA will win make-up.
Another one for MATTH.
-
That poor girl didn't get to say anything :-\
-
Why ARE they playing music under the speeches. Just like the movies - everything MUST be scored.
-
Careful John....I see a black eye in your future.
-
Hmm... Why did they cut her off? Surely, they still had more time?!?!?
-
I saw a preview for Judi Dench's MRS HENDERSON PRESENTS...it looks good.
It was :) and she was great.
-
DRs TPunk and Cillaliz got it right too!
-
Smiley Face Tank Top award.....
-
Technical awards...
-
I think the rule is supposed to be one speech per award, but they let two people talk a minute ago.
-
Why ARE they playing music under the speeches. Just like the movies - everything MUST be scored.
I hear when you sit down on the john, the music starts. ::)
-
A real award now!
-
Can't read....can't dress....can't talk....
Damn, he shoulda come to rehearsal.
-
Fingers crossed for Rachel.
-
Supporting actress coming up...
-
I don't know from Oscars, but I planted tomatoes, peppers, and my herb garden.
-
No surprise there with Rachel.
-
Yea....Rachel.....so beautiful....
-
Michelle Williams cleans up real good!
-
Haven't caught up yet, since our company just left and the only working TV is in the other room.
But didn't the costume winner seem to be confused because of the underscoring to her speech that they were about to give her the hook?
-
Well, the costume designer of What If lost to the LEADING performance of Rachel W. How is hers a "supporting" performance.
-
She kissed Brendan Fraser with THOSE lips....well lips that....well the lips she had back then...not THOSE lips.
-
I love when they show clips that feature the co-stars more than the nominees!
-
YEAH! I finally got another one!
As did a couple of other DRs... Sorry, DRs vixmom and MBarnum.
-
Judi Dench looks beautiful.
She is a very classy person and always elegant!
-
Well, the costume designer of What If lost to the LEADING performance of Rachel W. How is hers a "supporting" performance.
It wasn't....ask Beatrice Straight or Mercedes McCambridge. :P
-
It's where the studio wants the actors to be placed. George Clooney's publicist originally placed George in the leading category, and the studio nixed it. Look what happened.
-
Back just in time for the first Oscar - George Clooney
I got it right!
-
Poor Amy - she goes from What If to a nomination, wins every other award, but can't snag the Oscar. Tammy's former boyfriend, of course, was Amy's bro.
-
How can it be a Hollywood event if Carroll Baker and Annette Funicello are not there? Definitely D-list...
-
Weird to see a man once known as "Easy Reader" flub the teleprompter.
-
These commercials are worse than ever.
-
I loved Catherine Keener in CAPOTE, but hers WAS a more reactive performance than an active one.
-
Amy's got a great future in front of her.
-
You know I saw a woman, about 50 years old, at the grocery store yesterday buying a six pack of TAB.
-
I had Felipes' French Dip sandwich for lunch. It's like walking into a time machine - the sandwich is under five dollars. if you like coffee, it costs nine cents.
-
I am over 2000 miles away, and I am embarrassed for Ben Stiller.
I am sitting here trying to picture all this ;D
-
Tammy's former boyfriend, of course, was Amy's bro.
Oooohh.... So Eddie's single now, huh? Hmm....
;D
-
They're lovely people, but our company and Skip talked all the way through Dolly Parton's song. :(
-
Yay! Betty Bacall - loved working with her.
-
A post to acknowlege DR Laura's tomatoes and peppers.
-
I had Felipes' French Dip sandwich for lunch. It's like walking into a time machine - the sandwich is under five dollars. if you like coffee, it costs nine cents.
Ah, Philippe! Did you put that amazing hot mustard on your sandwich too? Double-dip? Cole slaw and pickles on the side?
-
My 1400th post on page 14. Is that a good sign?
-
Jennifer Aniston looks real good.
Her dad is on Days once in a blue moon but backa in the day...
He played Victor Kiriakis! he was also on Search for Tomorrow and owrked with Matt Ashford there also...
-
Poor Lauren having so much trouble reading the teleprompter.
-
FJL, it's a good sign that it came on page 14.
-
Why do costumes designers always wear ugly dresses?
Sense of style for themselves is confused...
-
That was so hard to watch!
-
I was wondering if the teleprompter was not working properly... or if she just didn't want to put on her glasses.
???
-
My 1400th post on page 14. Is that a good sign?
Play the lottery! ;)
-
My gosh - don't they realize these clips prove how creatively bankrupt they are and how talentless and mundane the "stars" are now?
-
The sitcom E/R also featured what other Academy Award nominee????
Are we talking about the Elliot Gould, Mary McDonnell ER?
Of course we are, you said sitcom ;D
-
A completely pointless Oscar montage. Whose idea was that?
a confused creative director?
-
Is this a lead-in for the cinematography award?
-
I liked it... But what was the point?
-
Lackluster applause.....the audience doesn't know why it was shown either.
John just said unseemly.
-
Just got a call (during the Oscars) from someone trying to solicit a donation for a local not-for-profit. And the caller turned out to be someone who lives right here on our floor.
-
That was very funny.
-
Those commercials were hilarious!
-
At the rate everyone is posting tonight I will never catch up. Instead I will say goodnight and catch a bit of the show.
-
These commercials are worse than ever.
commercials are irritating in any show!
-
That sounds like the music from Police Woman.
-
At the rate everyone is posting tonight I will never catch up. Instead I will say goodnight and catch a bit of the show.
I am just posting along for I am at owrk and no telly is available...
-
You know, one comedy bit or two comedy bits would have been fine. Do we have to have ALL these comedy bits?
-
Would this Oscar broadcast be more compelling if I were watching it on the bigger screen color TV in the family room?
-
I wish we could see these shorts locally.
-
Would this Oscar broadcast be more compelling if I were watching it on the bigger screen color TV in the family room?
I might be as we all do our own little bits of witticism...
-
I did have a bit of the spicy mustard. Also, cole slaw and potato salad. Yummilicous.
-
LOL....George mugs....he is handsome handsome handsome....oh I said that.
-
At least some of these doicumentaries got exhibited.
-
I have seen too many shorts locally.
-
Too many shorts get exhibited around here.
-
Oh my, I see what you guys meant about Theron's shoulder bow! Yikes.
-
No DRs got the Documentary, Short Subject category correct.
-
PENGUINS!!!
-
Why would they carry those penguins up on stage?
-
LOL....George mugs....he is handsome handsome handsome....oh I said that.
I agree Jrand55...I have been having a lot of nasty thoughts about him this evening. 8)
-
I can't listen to these documentary makers - they're so SERIOUS!
-
Jennifer Lopez was just called an "actress."
-
LOL....George mugs....he is handsome handsome handsome....oh I said that.
George Clooney is rather appealing looking. I bet he looks very nice in his tux...
-
That color dress goes great with Jennifer's coloring.
-
Is that a two-piece thing that Charlize is wearing.
Jennifer Lopez? Entertainer.....GIGLI!
-
She look lak a alien.
-
Lauren, Lauren, forget vanity, reading glasses! The film noir retrospective probably wasn't a good idea. Today's films pale in comparison. It showed what real glamour, style, and nuance looks like.
-
Jennifer Lopez actually looks classy for a change.
-
I have seen too many shorts locally.
They freeze in shorts up here!
-
Why is she wearing a vomit-green dress, with her hair plastered down on her head? Do these people look in the mirror and think they look GOOD?
-
I really liked Jennifer Lopez's dress.
Horseracing. ::)
-
Jennifer Lopez actually looks classy for a change.
That is unusual....
-
WOW! DR TPunk did not pick "March of the Penguins"?!?!?
-
Yes, Betty should have worn glasses.
This is what they nominate for Best Song? I tell you, the world has gone to hell.
-
Mrs. Onassis' Moose by Oleg Cassini
-
It should have been called: REMEMBER WHEN GOOD MOVIES WERE THE NORM?
-
Why is she wearing a vomit-green dress, with her hair plastered down on her head? Do these people look in the mirror and think they look GOOD?
Believe me BK, compared to how trashy she usually looks...she is stunning tonight! LOL!
-
They freeze in shorts up here!
I freeze in shorts UP to HERE. 8)
-
That song put me to sleep three times already.
-
Very simple song. It will probably win.
-
I liked that nominee for best song. Except for the fact that it had no melody whatsoever.
-
Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock? Who's driving the bus?
A surprise performance? Maybe Annette IS there! That would be a surprise.
-
The film noir montage had no point - they just decided to show some clips from a genre. Things MUST have a point. That said, every shot in that montage was art, art like they don't know how to do anymore.
-
We have a "surprise performance" coming up? The mind boggles...
::)
-
I think the lady who choreographed that is the gal who choreographed the moon maidens in MISSILE TO THE MOON.
-
So far, I'll take Dolly's number for song.
-
I just fell asleep THINKING about that song.
-
Poll for HHW'ers. Just post a number from 1-10. 10 being total approval.
Approval rating for Jon Stewart as Oscars host so far?
-
I'm travelin travelin travelin travelin on.................
-
Oh, no, not a surprise performance. My problem with Mr. Stewart is my problem with most of today's humorists - they reek of thinking they're funny.
-
6 for Jon.....2 for his material
-
Well, the remaining song has he word "Pimp" in the title, so... I'm guessing that will win.
It's all about the title.
-
So they only nominated three songs this year. What's that about?
-
Believe me BK, compared to how trashy she usually looks...she is stunning tonight! LOL!
I will agree with that assessment....
-
Maybe Ann-Margret is going to do BACHELOR IN PARADISE again!!!
-
Maybe Babs Streisand is going to show up and sing.
Nah.
-
And, of course, Mr. Stewart obviously reads this here site, hence his use of the word "unseemly" - I tell you, I feel strongly that soon we will be the most popular site on all the Internet.
-
Poll for HHW'ers. Just post a number from 1-10. 10 being total approval.
Approval rating for Jon Stewart as Oscars host so far?

-
This show looks like a 21st Century "Strike It Rich" - ugh.
-
Poll for HHW'ers. Just post a number from 1-10. 10 being total approval.

-
So they only nominated three songs this year. What's that about?
I did not care for any of the pieces they selected...
-
He's had some dud jokes, but I like him A THOOUSAND times better than last year's Chris Rock.
-
Maybe Barbra is going to sing BACHELOR IN PARADISE!!!
-
7
Better then last years person! But not as funny as some of the past hosts.
-
We're back.
-
BACHELOR IN PARADISE = George Clooney
-
This show looks like a 21st Century "Strike It Rich" - ugh.
I am sitting here at work and trying to picture this and nearly bursting out in laughter....
-
Jon Stewart...6. Average, 4.
-
Oh no...
-
I'm wondering if they'll be doing a different montage for different types of actors and films throughout the evening?
OOh.... A Disaster Movie Movie montage would be fun.
-
Love Sandy's dress....but not her makeup and hair.
-
Just pray Drake Hogestyn or David Hasselhoff dont show up and start singing.....
-
Sandra's dress is quite nice...but she looks sort of dazed.
-
Sandra Bullock should shoot her hairdresser.
-
Art Direction - King Kong?
-
How do you art direct CGI?
-
I'd say 6 or 7. The bar is pretty low. He does seem self-amused, it's true, but he doesn't overdo the gags like others.
-
Or will Geisha take another?
-
Just pray Drake Hogestyn or David Hasselhoff dont show up and start singing.....
Consider it done. ;D
-
Sandra Bullock should shoot her hairdresser.
the hairdresser must have failed design class i take it
-
Predictable - Geisha.
-
At least that $85 million they spent on MEMOIRS is earning some awards.
-
Brokeback Geisha!
-
Consider it done. ;D
I saw both sing once.... IT WAS SCARY!!!!!!!!
-
Certainly it didn't earn its money back, so the Awards are nice.
-
That's Steve NOT Rob....director is pulling out his hair.
-
Brilliant/Rob Marshall. Boy.
-
And DR Cillaliz pulls into the lead!
-
Certainly it didn't earn its money back, so the Awards are nice.
Oh, lord no! Didn't come close.
-
Uh oh - another montage???
-
What a load of bull hockey being shoveled by Samuel.
What about Beach Blanket Bingo? It did all that, and more!
-
Again with the clips!
-
And the bulk of the clips will be from newer movies I'll bet.
-
And here's another montage...
There better be some payoff for all these montages at the end of the evening.
-
That's Steve NOT Rob....director is pulling out his hair.
What did I miss??
-
Old Dolly....much prettier.
-
What did I miss??
They thanked Rob from the stage and showed Steven Spielberg in the audience. 8)
-
And the bulk of the clips will be from newer movies I'll bet.
ding ding ding ding
-
This montage is called: BIG IMPORTANT MOVIES.
-
And the bulk of the clips will be from newer movies I'll bet.
THey must have raided the montage vault in montage mountain
-
With banners flying.....I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take these clips anymore!
-
This bra doesn't fit and I'm not gonna wear it anymore!!!!
-
Too bad the Ska number from BACK TO THE BEACH wasn't this year. It would have walked away with Best Song.
-
Another name for this montage:
"Our annual excuse to show the Peter Finch speech from NETWORK"
-
Nice clips, but makes a long show longer.
-
Who's the blonde chick, Sid's mistress?
-
"Astonishing set of images!"
-
Hmmm... very interesting choice of clips, movies... Who'd of thunk you'd ever see "9 to 5" and "The Deer Hunter" in the same montage?!?!?!
-
Too bad the Ska number from BACK TO THE BEACH wasn't this year. It would have walked away with Best Song.
Ain't it the truth....although I am partial to Pajama Party Tonight....it's the latest craze....having a party wearing your P Jaaaaayssss.... ;D
-
I think the person who puts clip montages together forgets that movies existed prior to 1970.
-
Oh, dear, more pontificating.
-
Holy cow, 18 pages!
-
Shut up Sid!!!
And listening to all the damn people talking on their cell phones in the audience with you.
-
I wonder if Mickey Rooney even knows where he is.
-
New Orleans the NEW Hollywood!
-
Yak yak yak. These awards could be over in 2 hours if not for these meaningless speeches and pointless montages.
-
Aye Caramba!
-
Sorry, Sid, I bet all of them said, "that will look great on DVD", as they frame for a TV screen now and they continually conscious of their "cool" shots.
-
Damn, Salma Hayek is hot.
-
Nice statement about seeing movies in movie theatres.
-
Her teles are lopsided.
-
Oh, yes, the movie industry comes to the rescue of New Orleans! It doesn't get much lower than that.
-
Wow, Selma is beautiful! And her dress is wonderful!
-
Salma usually has Penelope Cruz with her in these introductions.
-
I guess Geisha will win music, even though I don't think it's deserving of it.
-
Salma-licious!
-
HA! "Oscar Weener"
;D
-
What color is Salma's dress?
-
All you need is Itzhak Perlman and Yo Yo Ma.
-
Please God....this is Margaret.....don't let this be the surprise performance....please God....thank you....
-
A most beautiful blue, DR Ginny!
-
I think the person who puts clip montages together forgets that movies existed prior to 1970.
I agree... They often forget that!!
-
I mean, if Mr. Williams has to win, give it for Munich, which actually has a theme or two.
-
HA! "Oscar Weener"
;D
They should have had her on with a great jazz singer and it would have been Salma ;n Ella. ;D
-
Hmm.... And Itzhak Perlman is a surprise because...???
Did the Academy just find out that Isaac Stern and Vladimir Horowitz are no longer available?
-
Hmmm... very interesting choice of clips, movies... Who'd of thunk you'd ever see "9 to 5" and "The Deer Hunter" in the same montage?!?!?!
ROFLMBO
That would be a riot
-
GEISHA has won several previous score awards during this Oscar season.
-
Yak yak yak. These awards could be over in 2 hours if not for these meaningless speeches and pointless montages.
AMEN!!!
-
JHC - too bad Gisele MacKenzie is dead....she could play the hell out of her fiddle....
-
Welcome eight GUESTS. Twenty-two people online right now here at haineshisway.com.
-
I don't understand what is going on. Is he playing the theme songs?
Oh, I guess he is.
-
Thanks for the color report, DR MBarnum! I hope by the time we have the HHW Tony bash to have a color TV, with cable connection, here in my computer/dressing room!
-
Where's Debbie Allen when you need her?? ;)
-
Of course, they could give it to Brokeback Mountain out of sheer ignorance.
-
ROFLMBO
That would be a riot
Well, it did happen... Not sure if it really was a riot, however.
-
As Nanette Fabray is probably saying in her living room right now:
"Where's my f*****g ukelele?"
-
Welcome eight GUESTS. Twenty-two people online right now here at haineshisway.com.
I hope they join us in the posting frenzy!!
-
Where's Debbie Allen when you need her?? ;)
I almost said that, DR GEORGE, but then thought better. :(
-
Of course, they could give it to Brokeback Mountain out of sheer ignorance.
Well there you have it. ;D
-
Here it comes - BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN!
-
Of course, they could give it to Brokeback Mountain out of sheer ignorance.
I thought it was a good movie even though some narrowminded people I work with were horrified that I went to it...
-
Hilarious!
-
Since his song didn't get to be nominated, I'm happy for him.
-
Good win...that is quite nice theme music.
-
One theme does not a score make, but I'm sort of happy Geisha didn't win - just didn't care for it at all.
-
I think the person who puts clip montages together forgets that movies existed prior to 1970.
Well, they probably didn't want to pay Ted Turner for all the clips.
;D
-
More commercials.
-
Why would Morgan Freeman dress so casually.
-
Honoring a movie legend?? That HAS to be Annette Funicello (who by the way, is still a voting member of the Academy).
-
I still want to see Capote and Good Night and Good Luck.
I wish I had some food in the house. Nothing here but some tortillas and cheese, and I don't want that.
-
And some Girl Scout peanut butter cookies.
-
So is Ricky Shroeder.
-
Why would Morgan Freeman dress so casually.
Good question....
-
Why not call for take out?
-
I suppose I could run to the liquor store and get some pistachio nuts, but it's COLD out.
-
Sorry. I won't do any dance until we're at the Governor's ball.
-
Well, they probably didn't want to pay Ted Turner for all the clips.
;D
That is true.... He is already wealthy enough
-
Think the show will make it in three hours?
-
CAPOTE and GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK certainly deserve to be there. They are wonderful, very involving films even when you already know the stories they're telling.
-
I hope they do a good job on the Memorial segment....I want to see Shelley Winters!!!
-
I still want to see Capote and Good Night and Good Luck.
I wish I had some food in the house. Nothing here but some tortillas and cheese, and I don't want that.
Well... Most Papa John's and Pizza Hut can have orders placed over the internet now.
-
Grate the cheese over one of the tortillas. Put in the oven for a few minutes until cheese is melted and enjoy!
If you have any salsa, you can break off pieces and dip.
-
Think the show will make it in three hours?
Are you kidding? I would say they are about 35 minutes behind already. And it's NOT the speeches.... ;D
-
If I called for takeout, I'd end up getting a whole pizza and EATING it all.
-
I still want to see Capote and Good Night and Good Luck.
I wish I had some food in the house. Nothing here but some tortillas and cheese, and I don't want that.
That sounds good...
I have dark Chocolate and some nuts here...
-
I hope they do a good job on the Memorial segment....I want to see Shelley Winters!!!
Who will they forget this year?
-
Think the show will make it in three hours?
If they keep haveing montages, no way!
-
I hope they do a good job on the Memorial segment....I want to see Shelley Winters!!!
Yes, but I suppose Cal Bolder and Carolyn Kearney won't be listed.
-
DR GINNY run downstairs and see some of the audience shots....you must see George Clooney in widescreen and color!
-
I'll swap with you, Dakota Celt.
-
I hope they do a good job on the Memorial segment....I want to see Shelley Winters!!!
Maybe the Hollywood Legend that they're honoring is someone everyone thought was dead.
-
This music they keep playing is annoying me.
-
Oddly, they did show a clip of dead Shelley Winters floating underwater in the film noir clip.
-
I just ate the last of a bag of Lay's Reduced Fat Ruffles. Now, I'm really hungry.
-
Yes, but I suppose Cal Bolder and Carolyn Kearney won't be listed.
Probably not.... :'(
-
Well... Most Papa John's and Pizza Hut can have orders placed over the internet now.
NOt allowed up here....
-
Maybe the Hollywood Legend that they're honoring is someone everyone thought was dead.
Then it IS Annette!
-
Here comes another montage!
-
Think the show will make it in three hours?
Well... Here comes another montage...
???
-
Another clip montage.....epics
-
I'll swap with you, Dakota Celt.
:: hands Bk the nuts and dark chocolate for the tortillas and cheese :::
Enjoy Monsieur!!
-
Ooooh! Another montage of totally unrelated movies! Tonight's running theme...
-
This just in:
Portable DVD player sales plummet in the wake of Gyllenhaal's reckless comments!
-
Frank Thring....
But this is really making me mad.....screwy music......music bumps....
-
Tese are not bein g shown in the proper aspect ratio.
-
Oh, come on now--I just started page 20 two minutes ago!!!
-
Here comes another montage!
I have this most interesting imaage of film cells walking across the stage and John stewart is talking and one bonks him on the head
-
Hmm.... "Braveheart" and "West Side Story" and "Moulin Rouge" and "The Poseidon Adventure" and....
SHEESH!?!?!?!
-
This one is called: BIG HOLLYWOOD MOVIES PART 2 (THIS TIME BIG IN SIZE, IF NOT IMPORTANCE).
-
Umm... and "The Matrix"!?!?!???
-
Ooooh! Another montage of totally unrelated movies! Tonight's running theme...
THey must have raided the NBC department of 'we dont knwo what continuity is" department
-
Well some were and some weren't.
BUTCH CASSIDY an epic?
-
Hmm.... "Braveheart" and "West Side Story" and "Moulin Rouge" and "The Poseidon Adventure" and....
SHEESH!?!?!?!
that is an odd combination....
-
Jessica Hubba Hubba Alba!
-
Well some were and some weren't.
BUTCH CASSIDY an epic?
I could not classify that as an epic
Spartacus or Cleopatra --- YES
-
Her dress is gorgeous!
-
Why can't Eric Bana be dressed in something backless?
;D
-
More clips
-
Alba-licious!
-
Who are all these faceless presenters - I don't know who these "actors" are.
-
Jessica Alba is such a cutie. I wish she could act.
-
Note to Academy: Musical...Epic...not the same thing. Still it's always nice to see the inimitable Frank Thring. "DanssssSalome!" And Mr. Buster Keaton showing 'em how it's done.
-
I will see that may be the only clip of THIS IS CINERAMA I've ever seen in my life.
-
Who are all these faceless presenters - I don't know who these "actors" are.
He played "The Hulk" before he transformed into the green thing in the movie remake.
-
More clips
::: hands everyone a scissor::: we might as well start snippin' the clips
-
Why can't Eric Bana be dressed in something backless?
;D
or frontless
-
Jessica's dress is lovely.
-
Yes, they didn't exactly show "epics" - ET is not an "epic".
-
Eric Bana played Hector in TROY.
-
elmore has joined us. He'll be caught up with the posts in about two hours.
-
I think I've seen only one bad dress tonight.
-
Meryl and Lily ...
-
I saw Lily Tomlin wear that schmatte before. A few times.
-
I think this may be the Robert Altman tribute.
MNore clips!
-
Was ABC really hoping to get this show done in three hours? I figured three and a half or four was the norm now.
???
-
I love Lilly T.!
-
I see Meryl's belly button, I think
-
I think I've seen only one bad dress tonight.
I would say Charlize's from what I found through google is .... ah nice but ti does not do her justice
-
I turned it on and have watched a few minutes. I shall now turn it off again. Two women are just rambling.
-
Lily Tomlin and Meryl Streep, thank you from keeping me from gouging my eyes out with a pen.
-
Also, Jon Stewart's tribute to montages joke was greatly appreciated.
-
I love Lilly T.!
I have always gotten a kick out her
ERnestine is a hoot!
-
What a couple of great pros.
-
Lily and Meryl - funny at last
-
Also, Jon Stewart's tribute to montages joke was greatly appreciated.
Alas, I don't think they're out of clips yet.
-
I tell you, Meryl is almost the right weight to play Minnie Kritzer.
-
I would say Charlize's from what I found through google is .... ah nice but ti does not do her justice
That's the one, DakotaCelt!
-
But why did Meryl have to have an antenna sticking up from the back of her dress. She looked like an alien.
-
Not that funny...
-
A lull...
-
Certainly a most deserving award at last!
-
elmore couldn't take the number of posts and left. So did Jane. We shall have to carry on in their stead.
-
I wish I liked Mr. Altman's films more.
-
Alas, I don't think they're out of clips yet.
Time to snip the clip
and on with the slip
No time to dip
but make the snip
for time is but a ship
-
We might come close to last year's record - we're nearing seven hundred postings and we're five hours away from the end of the evening.
-
No matter what it will be our second highest day - we've already achieved that, I think.
-
Robert Altman is one of those people who will work till they drop.
-
Altman seems like a very nice guy, but I can't really say that I like any of his movies.
-
Were Keira Knightley and Natalia Portman separated at birth?
-
Okay, I'm ready to have the next award.
-
Love M*A*S*H and Nashville!!
-
Altman seems like a very nice guy, but I can't really say that I like any of his movies.
I am drawing a blank to his movies
-
I think three hours is a dream. It's seven-ten, and there is at least another fifteen minutes of commercials in the next hour.
-
Popeye!
-
Love M*A*S*H and Nashville!!
Love MASH but I have not seen Nashville
-
Thanks, Robert. Bye.
-
They will have to go to commercial after this, which will leave forty minutes, but ten of those will be commercials.
-
Nice speech.
-
Meryl IS Minnie....what a great advertising slogan!
-
Wow--I guess he won't be dropping anytimg soon! Good for him, I say!
-
Oooh, an exciting performance of the third nominated song!
-
I am not here.. We do not see the telecast for another six hours. Enjoy.
-
I think three hours is a dream. It's seven-ten, and there is at least another fifteen minutes of commercials in the next hour.
...And there's still TEN major awards to be given out tonight.
11:00/8:00? Not gonna happen. No, sirree.
-
I'm hungry!
-
No more wire montages, EVER!
-
Idle musing: Will Dan O'Herlihy of the LAST STARFIGHTER film be included in this year's "In Memoriam"?
-
Isn't this the BEST Oscar party???
-
We're certainly funnier than the show itself.
-
I think the numbers are moving right along.
I meant the numbers on the site - our numbers of posts.
-
Dan O'Herlihy better - superb actor with a major film career.
-
And DR Dan (The Man) is in the lead!
-
That credit card commercial was odd.
-
...And there's still TEN major awards to be given out tonight.
11:00/8:00? Not gonna happen. No, sirree.
I would say 1130 my time...
-
Welcome eleven GUESTS!
-
That new sitcom SONS & DAUGHTERS does not seem terribly inspired.
-
I can't listen to this
-
Isn't this the BEST Oscar party???
we probably have the classiest fashions and wits!! Our best Jammies, comfortable clothes and diamond-crusted tiaras and slippers.. Tiaras for Ginny, me and Tpunk!!!
-
The minute my back is turned!
-
Rap "musicians" know NOTHING about rhyming.
-
Altman has directed some movies I love and some I despise, but he always has an interesting p.o.v.
-
Here it comes...
And most of America turns down the TV and goes to the bathroom...
Oohhh... There was one "bleep".
-
That new sitcom SONS & DAUGHTERS does not seem terribly inspired.
I was just thinking the same thing DR Matth! LOL!
-
And DR Dan (The Man) is in the lead!
With my predictions? I thought I missed quite a few.
-
Oh... my.... God!
-
Yep, I heard that beep.
-
Oh, my gosh...who nominated this horrible, horrible song?
-
Here it comes...
And most of America turns down the TV and goes to the bathroom...
Oohhh... There was one "bleep".
It sounds like there should have been another bleep!
-
That new sitcom SONS & DAUGHTERS does not seem terribly inspired.
I loved the movie with Trevor Howard and Dean Stockwell.
Oh wait...
-
I always thought rap would be a fad like disco was. Shows what I know.
-
If this is music, it's the end of the world. Think singers will be covering this song ten years from now? Think Rod Stewart will do this on a songbook album?
-
I don't mean to sound old and out of touch, but this is the most hellish audio nightmare I've ever experienced.
-
That credit card commercial was odd.
I was in the other room to watch the Altman tribute in color. About halfway through the commercial, DH Richard said, "What IS this?" But we watched the whole thing...
-
We even have Arnold M. Brockman here.
-
Oh, my gosh...who nominated this horrible, horrible song?
Hmm... And surely there was some animated feature this past year that had an Oscar-nomination-worthy song in it?
-
This has to be the worst Academy Awards ever. I thought thry couldn't surpass last years fiasco.Jon Stewart is completely out of his element.
-
Okay, shoot all those people. And the audience CHEERS. Shoot them, too.
-
This sucks! Why is American Idol on the Oscar show?
-
I think that girl is probably a lot better then the song she is singing.
-
If Rod could make a buck off of it...
-
Yep, I heard that beep.
who or what got beeped....
-
I don't mean to sound old and out of touch, but this is the most hellish audio nightmare I've ever experienced.
Did you catch the band last night on SNL?
-
I always thought rap would be a fad like disco was. Shows what I know.
I thought that exact same thing. :-\
-
Since when do pimp and rent rhyme? Please...can you actually see this on an Oscar song compliation with The Continental and When You Wish Upon A Star and Moon River?
-
I'm picking the "Crash" song.
-
This sucks! Why is American Idol on the Oscar show?
I think she was trying to audition for "RENT: 2"
;D
-
The end of the world, for sure!!
-
And the censors are at the ready.....
-
You can just see the thinking that went into that. "We gotta do something to attract young people and show the Oscars are cool and hip!"
Good gawd, it won even.
-
Jose, I did catch the band on SNL. Horrible and indecipherable.
The F#*king song just won. Please shoot me now!
-
A new Oscar low. Pimp, best song.
-
Oy! I don't think Diana Darrin voted for this song.
-
Wasn't "Wet Monkey Love" from KING KING nominated?
-
The first person that they thank is their choreographer! :P
-
Look at these winners. They are wealthier than we will ever be.
-
Art is dead
-
Well... at least their "speech" was short.
:-\
-
I didn't understand a word those guys said.
-
Not funny, Jon...not funny.
That song -
-
Art is dead
Linkletter or Fleming? ???
-
Oh no!
-
Jose, I did catch the band on SNL. Horrible and indecipherable.
The F#*king song just won. Please shoot me now!
You have got to be kidding?
-
Another for KING KONG.
-
Now we've got to have the same joke again -
-
Hollywood for all the supposed good it does and noble deeds, goes a long way toward promoting the image of pimps as fun characters.
-
Art is dead
what a sad sight....
-
Boob Bouncing Garner....grace personified.
-
WE are almost to 30 pages....
-
Empire style dress for Jennifer Garner to hide her baby weight.
-
Well, at least with "Pimp" I guessed another category correctly.
;)
-
Whoops - Jennifer Garner just tripped!
-
KK OK
-
Jennifer almost fell. She obviously hasn't lost the baby weight yet. And why do all these women have their hair in pony tails - whose awful idea of a hairstyle is that? It's like they got up, didn't wash their hair, and put it back in a pony tail. Awful.
-
I can see the wretched headlines now
Rap has come of age and is recognized as an artform
It never will be in my book
-
So, do you think Jennifer Garner was inspired by Christina Applegate's entrance on the Tony's?
-
Kong is climbing the Empire State Building - that is all.
-
There are obviously no sweeps tonight.
-
Gorgeous George.
-
Eminem's song from 8 MILE won several years ago so it's not even the first rap song to win!
-
Oh, now it's ACADEMY award winner, George Clooney...
-
Wasn't Mr. Clooney the lead in Syriana - over the title and everything.
-
Andy Serkis has now been thanked twice. Hmmm. ;)
-
Jennifer almost fell. She obviously hasn't lost the baby weight yet. And why do all these women have their hair in pony tails - whose awful idea of a hairstyle is that? It's like they got up, didn't wash their hair, and put it back in a pony tail. Awful.
It's all to show off the jewelry... So that they can keep them.
:)
-
Time to clap for dead people!
-
Nice Dan and Sandra clips both from IMITATION OF LIFE.
-
I liked the NOW VOYAGER music underneath that montage.
-
Eminem's song from 8 MILE won several years ago so it's not even the first rap song to win!
I really questions the collective brains of those who select the song nominees
-
Completely shameful moment: Listing The King and I and Virginia Woolf as Lehman's writing credits - both adaptations - where the HELL was North by Northwest?
-
They did show Simone Simone, that was cool.
-
I lied the NOW VOYAGER music underneath that montage.
I'm not sure, DR MATTH - but I don't have an alternative..... 8)
-
clap, clap
-
Completely shameful moment: Listing The King and I and Virginia Woolf as Lehman's writing credits - both adaptations - where the HELL was North by Northwest?
Exactly!! ;D
-
and continue and continue and continue
-
And Moira Shearer. Naturally, you could tell from the applause, that Chris Penn was the only dead person they really knew.
-
DR ARNOLDMBROCKMAN is correct....this is a very bad Oscar Telecast.
-
And here's the current ranking in the EW Oscar Pool:
1 Dan the Man 11 (correct picks)
2 cillaliz 9
3 TPunk 8
4 vixmom 7
5 MBarnum 6
5 JoseSPiano 6
5 georged55 6
8 tcb 4
-
bk, a question for a commercial break... perhaps you have answered this and I have missed it....
You mentioned that they bought out the show for the imposter's show... Was it his production company, the netowrk or the theatre that did that?
-
Yes, I notcied they used IMITATION OF LIFE for the two clips.
-
And Moira Shearer. Naturally, you could tell from the applause, that Chris Penn was the only dead person they really knew.
None of the clips were from Shelley's Oscar winning performances.
Oh no NOT Will Smith....ugh
-
Not funny, Will....not funny.....
WtG - DtM
-
I found out that Will Smith is a fan of Bollywood movies! That makes him OK in my book.
-
Dakota Celt: It was the network, I believe.
-
Will Smith was funny once... or did I dream that?
-
Will Joyeux Noel win?
-
These foreign films almost never come here.
-
And now I'm recalling a rather morbid "game" that I used to play with some friends... We would all come up with a list of names of who we think would be on next year's "In Memoriam". One lady must have had psychic powers, she won at least three years in row.
:-\
-
No.
-
Whatsi Tsotsi?
-
I know I didn't pick Tsotsi as best foreign film.
-
It's now seven-forty. Think eight o'clock is a possibility? Think eight-thirty is a possibility.
-
Who IS this clown?
-
He seemed like a good guy.
-
At least it's not coming up on 11pm for you!
-
There are only eight awards left to give out...how long will it take?? :P
-
Awww... That speech actually made me cry. Very heart-felt.
-
No WUSSBURGERING allowed tonight!
-
Ziya is wearing my favorite dress so far....well almost wearing it.
-
CRASH should win film editing.
-
That is the Crouching Dragon lady isn't it?
-
Editing.
-
I know I didn't pick Tsotsi as best foreign film.
But DR Cillaliz did. -She's gaining on you, DtM!
-
J Stewart is using 3-6 Mafia as his Jack Palance. The joke that doesn't quit.
-
No surprise there.
-
That Geisha girl is CUTE. Nice hairdo - our young "stars" should learn something from her.
-
CRASH should win film editing.
Wow Jerry Van Dyke looks great! ;D
-
I guessed correctly! :)
-
CRASH should win film editing.
You should have joined the Pool, DR MattH. As they say, if you don't play, you can't win.
;)
-
OMG I left on page 5 and came home to page 27!!!!!!
-
I think I picked CRASH...or did I?
-
I can't seem to get logged back into the pool, how am I doing?
-
Just about to pass 800 posts, which puts us in sight of last year's record. CAN WE DO IT???
-
This is Best Actor!
-
If people don't WUSSBURGER, we could make it.
-
So, I'm guessing the Technical winners are getting 45 seconds for their speeches, and the Acting winners are getting 60 seconds.
-
Hilly fergot her turtleneck sweater.
-
I don't care for Hillary, but her dress is nice.
-
I do not like Hilary Swank's hair. :o
-
BIG AWARD COMING UP!!!
-
None of the clips were from Shelley's Oscar winning performances.
Oh no NOT Will Smith....ugh
I have a cute vid clip at home from classic days of Jack Deveraux alluding to Shelley Winters....
-
I can't seem to get logged back into the pool, how am I doing?
Here ya' go:
1 Dan the Man 11
2 cillaliz 10
3 TPunk 8
4 vixmom 7
4 MBarnum 7
4 georged55 7
7 JoseSPiano 6
8 tcb 5
*And while going through some boxes today, I believe I found a sparkling prize or two. :)
-
Just about to pass 800 posts, which puts us in sight of last year's record. CAN WE DO IT???
LETS GIVE IT HECK!!!!!
-
I finally got in - cool didn't know I was doing that well
-
These are all wonderful performances.
-
Wooohooooo....
-
This just in: Toby and Dylan are still quite despondent over the Pimp number winning. They think it's the end of civilization and would like a treat to console them.
-
Go blondie!
-
YEAH!!!!! I loved Philip Seymour Hoffman's performance in Capote. Glad to see him win
-
Has anyone mentioned how irritating the underscoring under the acceptance speeches is?
-
Any of these wonderful actors might have won in a different year against lesser competition.
-
My guess is that they have just cut some comedy montages and film montages, in an attempt to end at eight. Ten minutes from now. They are really trying to rush now - stupidly, if you ask me. I mean, why now?
-
Not a word from PSH about Truman?
-
Phillip is a sweet guy.
-
I'm surprised that they've given the best actor award so early. Hasn't it usually been given next to last, just before the best movie award?
-
Welcome twelve GUESTS. Come on in, that water's fine.
-
This just in: Toby and Dylan are still quite despondent over the Pimp number winning. They think it's the end of civilization and would like a treat to console them.
Discerning animals. 8)
-
What's left? Actress, two screenplay awards, director, and picture? Did they give cinematography yet?
-
Phillip is a sweet guy.
I was hoping he would win....
-
I'm surprised the Writing Awards have not been presented yet so far?
I'm guessing ABC is thinking that the awards for Best Actress, Best Direction and Best Picture will keep people tuned in until the bitter end. In the meantime, they had to go ahead and announce Best Actor just to keep everyone awake.
-
Will they try to give all the remaining awards in five minutes?
-
He was given such a strong chance of winning that I think they'd save the closer race, Best Actress, for later.
-
Seeing the clips tonight, I really must rent WALK THE LINE next weekend.
-
I tell you, I feel that soon we will be the most popular site on all the Internet.
-
Nope they haven't done Cinematography
-
The jernt is jumping. It's commercial time - a time for everyone to post!
-
What's left? Actress, two screenplay awards, director, and picture? Did they give cinematography yet?
No, not yet.
-
Definitely a great performance. Even better in the context of the whole film than in the clips. See it BK!
-
Nope they haven't done Cinematography
Which means one more montage.
:-\
-
I have the DVD of Walk The Line here - haven't gotten to it yet. Must finish The House on Telegraph Hill tonight after the Oscars. I'm HUNGRY!
-
My oscar party was good food good wine and several people fell asleep during the show so we all decided to call it a night
-
A post just for yuks.
-
Actually, haven't the Tony Awards been a high posting night too?
-
I'm looking forward to Capote - I think it should hit DVD this week, right?
-
Were there really no songs from CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY that could have been nominated? Three nominations in that category implies that no other songs were worthy.
-
Tonys are high, too, just not like this.
-
I'm eating saltines and drinking diet Pepsi! Whoo whoo!
-
I just can't picture John Travolta as Edna. :P
-
Travolta looks good tonight!
-
I tell you, I feel that soon we will be the most popular site on all the Internet.
bk, this is a a cool board!! Lots of sparkling personalities!! 8)
-
I'm jsut glad to be back in my recliner at the HHW party!
-
Ooohh... And just had a thought...
If the gods of theatre are smiling upon The Palace over the next couple of weeks, I will not be here (on HHW) this year during the Tony Award telecast... Since I will - hopefully - be at the Tony Awards!
-
I got this one wrong.
-
John can't pronounce "memoirs."
-
Mem-Mars of a Gaysha?
-
Predictable
-
I just can't picture John Travolta as Edna. :P
He played a clinton-esque character in Primary colours
-
Is all of Good Night and Good Luck in black and white?
-
Here comes the Best Actress award!
-
What now?
-
Well, nobody said cinematographers were supposed to be interesting.
-
Ohh...they're just rushing through them, now.
-
Actress?
-
I got this one wrong.
We have the same picks on all but best actress, I went out on a limb -
-
Is all of Good Night and Good Luck in black and white?
yes.
-
Is all of Good Night and Good Luck in black and white?
Yes.
-
Is all of Good Night and Good Luck in black and white?
Yes
-
JINX!!!
;)
-
Who who who will it be?
-
And according to the time stamp - well all posted "Yes" at the same time!
-
Is all of Good Night and Good Luck in black and white?
Aw, what the heck.
Yes.
-
JINX!!!
;)
LOL!!!!
-
OH! There's Danny Burstein in the "Transamerica" clip.
DR Rodzinksi - That's who I was thinking of. Rebecca Luker's husband. Not Danny Gurwin. Oops.
-
Is it just me or does Charlize look a lot like Juliet Prowse?
-
Yup
-
Wonder if she will mention June Carter Cash?
-
What I predicted but not what I wanted.
-
Reese.
-
Yeah, I knew she'd win it, but I really liked Felicity Huffman
-
Thanks you , Reese!
-
LOL!!!!
Great minds think alike
-
Yeah REese!! I picked her also....
-
After eight. I'm telling you that they've cut stuff trying to bring it in in the next ten minutes.
-
We have the same picks on all but best actress, I went out on a limb -
??? But you picked Felicity Huffman in the Pool too.
-
I picked Felicity, but I do like Reece
-
I'll be looking forward to seeing Reese in the film.
-
shut up now, Reese
-
How come they're not playing her off?
-
Less than 40 posts until we tie last year
-
??? But you picked Felicity Huffman in the Pool too.
I was responding to Dan the Man, he picked Reece
-
I think they saw she was going to be emotional and said, "Let her go."
-
What's with this extreme close up on Reese?
-
I'll be looking forward to seeing Reese in the film.
It is a decent film bk
-
A little rambling but heartfelt. At least she didn't read from a list.
-
Screenplay next, then director, then picture, then we can quickly make 100 more posts and go home.
-
What's with this extreme close up on Reese?
You never saw her in Legally Blonde
-
Meijer was out of WALK THE LINE dvd's tonight....
-
I want to try that new Black Coke.
-
Heck, we can do forty posts during this commercial break!
-
I really think they should simply drop the Best Song category. It really doesn't seem revelant any more.
-
A good time for a Reese's Pieces commercial?
-
Wow, with four hours to go, I'd say we have a very good shot at surpassing last year! Hoo and ray for us! Anyone for 1000????
-
I bought some Diet black cherry vanilla Coke. Can't imagine what that's going to taste like.
-
Whatever happened to Mason Reese?
-
I'm HUNGRY!
-
Man, that Huffman/Macy house is a house full of losers!
(just kiddin')
-
It's looking like the show will end around eight-twenty to eight-thirty. And Jon Stewart has basically been told to move it along.
-
Meijer was out of WALK THE LINE dvd's tonight....
I love me some Meijer! Ah, fond memories of heading Mishawaka at 2:00am!
;)
-
And with Four more awards to be presented...
1 Dan the Man 13
2 cillaliz 11
3 TPunk 9
4 vixmom 8
4 georged55 8
6 JoseSPiano 7
6 MBarnum 7
8 tcb 6
-
I may have to go out and get something to eat - maybe a couple of slices of pizza from my local pizzeria - or a Philly cheesesteak sandwich. Or something lighter.
-
Frankly the show has been a yawn this year.
-
And remember, there are TWO Screenwriting awards - Adapted and Original.
-
Say, who's on Barbara Walters tonight?
-
Oh no not Dustin Hoffman....gag.
-
Meijer. Yeah, I once bought a ping-pong table at 1am from a Meijer in Toledo.
-
I am not a Dustin Hoffman fan.
-
I didn't go back over the earlier posts, too many to catch up, but the dresses were pretty awful this year too
-
Frankly the show has been a yawn this year.
I wouldn't be watching if it weren't for HHW!
-
shut up Dustin - you suck
-
Anyone know why Judi Dench looked so stern and upset?
I thought Jamie Foxx's calling her a Great Dame was odd.
-
I bought some Diet black cherry vanilla Coke. Can't imagine what that's going to taste like.
I like the stuff.
Just as good as the Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper.
*And it's better than the regular, non-diet stuff - which reminds me of sucking on a scented candle.
-
Ok Screenplay
-
Say, who's on Barbara Walters tonight?
They plopped her on last Wednesday night. She had Clooney, Matthew MacMonaghue (whatever his name is) and Mariah Carey.
-
BM wins one at last
-
A good time for a Reese's Pieces commercial?
::: hands the bag around:: Help yourself
-
Very pleased with that award.
-
No surprise here... "Brokeback Mountain" for Adapted Screenplay.
-
I got this one!
-
Larry McMurtry is wearing Jeans!!!!
-
I like the stuff.
Just as good as the Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper.
*And it's better than the regular, non-diet stuff - which reminds me of sucking on a scented candle.
cant drink diet - allergic
-
BM wins one at last
It won Best Score earlier.
-
TALK FASTER!!!!
-
Larry McMurtry is wearing Jeans!!!!
That does nto surprise me
-
Will Brokeback take Best Picture and Ang Lee best director?
-
You're cutting into Ang Lee's time!
-
I am glad they got an award for adapted screenplay
-
Why aren't they letting these guys go on without no music?
-
It won Best Score earlier.
How quickly I forget.
Oh World of Wisdom just got thanked.
-
Yeah page 32!!!
-
Will Brokeback take Best Picture and Ang Lee best director?
It should but who knows?
-
Looking like eight-thirty. Ooh, Uma.
-
Our loyal Lawyers that is the title of my next book
-
They plopped her on last Wednesday night. She had Clooney, Matthew MacMonaghue (whatever his name is) and Mariah Carey.
And McDreamy from "Grey's Anatomy," Patrick Dempsey.
-
Why aren't they letting these guys go on without no music?
their minds have become numb or they got cooked with money under the table?
-
CRASH will win original screenplay
-
Why aren't they letting these guys go on without no music?
The tape ran out. Happened during Reece's speech too.
-
Is my tv screwy or are some of these gals orange or tan?
-
Another ponytail - it must be this year's hip hairdo - how boring.
-
CRASH....
-
I got this one, too!
-
No surprise there.
-
Crash - predictable - who cares?
-
BK, you should have opened the chat room tonight.
-
WOW!
Did "Crash" have this much buzz when it first came out?
-
Art is NOT a hammer....except in the hands of bully.
-
If I'd opened the chat room, we'd have ten posts.
-
I want to spank those people?
-
Dan you can't lose our pool at this point....congrats
-
And I do believe we just passed last year's record. Wow!
-
I just lost to TPunk. AGAIN! :(
-
WOW!
Did "Crash" have this much buzz when it first came out?
No. It and CINDERELLA MAN were the two most celebrated films from the first half of the year, but then CRASH got hotter when the DVD came out.
-
We should be able to hit 1000 easy
-
I want to spank those people?
On certain boards that could get you some dates!
-
I just lost to TPunk. AGAIN! :(
So, what CD are you going to buy for her?
-
From what I understand there was a big campaign for CRASH after it came out on DVD
-
On certain boards that could get you some dates!
Oh really? ::)
-
Well.. If DR Dan (the Man) will e-mail me his snail mail address, I shall post his Sparkling Prize once I get back to New York later this week.
Congratulations!
-
Note to self: Buy CRASH and WALK THE LINE dvd's.
-
I didn't realize we'd beat last year quite a while ago - last year was 915 posts. We've still got three-and-a-half hours tonight - and the evening is young, which is more than I can say. 1000 here we come!
-
She says a Dolly Parton hits collection.
-
CRASH was a very good movie!
-
On certain boards that could get you some dates!
Where??
;)
-
WOW!
Did "Crash" have this much buzz when it first came out?
I had not heard of it until the nominations came out
-
I liked but didn't love Crash - very Magnoliaesque.
-
Actually, they may not make eight-thirty.
-
Dan you can't lose our pool at this point....congrats
Thank you. First of all, I'd like to thank my loyal lawyers. And God. And my accountants. And all of you wonderful people out there in the dark. And--DON'T YOU DARE START PLAYING ME OFF!!!! PLEASE DON'T CUT ME OFF!!!
-
Oh really? ::)
Well, that is what I have heard, anyway :-X
-
I didn't realize we'd beat last year quite a while ago - last year was 915 posts. We've still got three-and-a-half hours tonight - and the evening is young, which is more than I can say. 1000 here we come!
Hainsies and Kimlets, lets give it heck!
-
So very happy that he won!
-
Ang Lee. Looks like Brokeback Mountain for Best Picture.
-
The actors had nothing to do with bringing their characters to life?
-
I felt the same way about CRASH. It was well made and certainly absorbing, but I didn't find it haunting or great.
-
I guess they'll make eight-thirty after all.
-
Is that Jack Nicholson or Jack Benny?
-
Wonder what "comedy" got cut.
-
No George sweep!
-
Why the hell is Jack wearing sunglasses?? :P
-
He obviously need them to read, but they look like sunglasses.
-
Wonder what "comedy" got cut.
good question....
-
Why the hell is Jack wearing sunglasses?? :P
because he's Jack and that's what he does
-
I actually went out on a limb with this prediction.. let's see...
-
CRASH!!!!
-
UPSET!!!!!
-
He obviously need them to read, but they look like sunglasses.
Jack walks to his own drummer...
-
WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
:o
-
I think in five years, this will be a forgotten film.
Very disappointed.
-
That was the BROKEBACK producers falling down.
-
Best Mochen Picture goes to CRASH! Big upset. In ten years, people will look back and say, WHAT?
-
Ten years, hell....ten minutes.....
-
My secret wish of the heart was for GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK to take all of its nominated awards....sigh.
-
Best Mochen Picture goes to CRASH! Big upset. In ten years, people will look back and say, WHAT?
I am horribly disappointed!!!
shocker!
-
The Chariots of Fire of this decade.
-
Dan IS the MAN
-
We are just about to pass 1000 posts, a haineshisway.com first.
-
What? Who? Where? Did I miss something?
-
CRASH did not deserve best picture over the others...I liked it, but it wasn't THE best.
-
I went ahead and picked "Good Night, and Good Luck" in the EW Oscar Pool... Just because... However, I don't think I would have ever picked "Crash".
Again... WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
And we're not done yet!
-
I liked Capote and Good Night and Good Luck the best, but didn't think they'd win
-
WOW poll got one out of three.
-
I was fearful this would happen.
Well, I have to keep telling myself, the Oscars mean nothing, the Oscars mean nothing.
But, damn!
-
And another Oscarcast is history. Now, who's on Barbara Walters?
-
Congratulations to MR BK, the all the HHW gang.
Good night, and good luck!
-
Haven't been shocked like that in many moons.
-
We are just about to pass 1000 posts, a haineshisway.com first.
And you were post 1000, bk!
-
Mr BK go get something to eat!
-
Congrats to all for 1000 posts and climbing
-
George Clooney and Joaquin are both on Barbara, I think....
-
Clooney was on Barbara.
-
And another Oscarcast is history. Now, who's on Barbara Walters?
Scroll back a few pages for the answer.
;)
-
And I wonder if the celebs at the El Portal have trashed our theater? Much time was taken to protect everything, and they supposedly put a drape up in front of the set so no one could get near it. We shall see. We have it in writing that any damages will be paid for and fixed long before our next show.
-
That was fun!
-
Well, it's not that late, but I think I want to get off line and lick my wounds a little bit.
-
I adore George Clooney, he's only 2 months older than I am....not that that means anything
-
Well, I don't think I need to watch Barbara Walters. Who will be watching the after parties?
-
Well, I'm not normally one to follow numbers... But it will be interesting to check out the spike in "Crash" DVDs over the coming week.
-
Page 35 COOL BEANS!!!!!
-
Hooray, Hooray on 1000 posts!!
-
Crash, hmmm. One I didn't see and know very little about. No interest in seeing it, really.
At least Ryan Phillippe can feel like he won something and not feel too inferior to that overachieving wife of his.
-
Well, time to go home and dream of next year.
-
Yes, congrats on the new all-time post total.
-
35 pages. Over 1000 posts and counting, as the evening is young, which is more than I can say.
Can you imagine when the errant and truant log on in the morning and try to catch up or even ketchup? We shall laugh and laugh and just when we think we cannot laugh anymore, we shall laugh again.
-
Bathroom break...
-
Well, it's not that late, but I think I want to get off line and lick my wounds a little bit.
Just don't hurt your back again, DR MattH.
;D
-
I think I will go get some snack or other.
-
NOW you could open the chat room.
-
Didn't we do the chat room during the Oscars or the Emmys or something, one year?
-
Great to be a part of HHW history!
During it, I passed 2,500 posts.
-

Hark, Pity the poor soul
weak courage wanders the heart
how harken to abandon the night
O the foolhardy who do not believe
that spirit is mastery
-
Just don't hurt your back again, DR MattH.
;D
You're right about that! Actually, I have a sore neck from sitting at the computer and looking at the TV to my left at the end of the den.

Odd way to run a show. Frontload it with montages and comedy, then rush through the awards everyone really wants to see.
-
Good night, all!
ENjoyed sharing Oscar night with you.
-
Great to be a part of HHW history!
During it, I passed 2,500 posts.
And I passed 2100

I'm Number Five! I'm Number Five!! ;)
-
I am really proud to come in second, even if I don't get a sparkling prize, just being here is sparkling prize enough. Congrats to everyone else
-
Crash, hmmm. One I didn't see and know very little about. No interest in seeing it, really.
At least Ryan Phillippe can feel like he won something and not feel too inferior to that overachieving wife of his.
Do you think they'll turn out like Hilary Swank and Chad Lowe?? "This is Mrs. Norman Maine."
-
I'm Number Five! I'm Number Five!! ;)
LOL!!!
-
Lead story on WCPO news in Cincinnati - George Clooney's Supporting Actor award.
-
Well.. I actually may be able to pull together some sparkling prize or another for all the participants in the EW Oscar Pool. Remember, it really is an honor just to be nominated.
;)
-
Lead Story on WUSA in DC - The Baseball Stadium Deal... :-\
-Boy, am I glad that I'm not a DC taxpayer!

Final Approval Ratings (1-10, 10 is ultimate approval, Zero is apocalyptic dismay):
Host: 6

Show: 4
-
Ok, I'm watching the local news and all I can say is I think collegen lips look ridiculous... I said that was all I could say
-
Woo hoo, I won a CD!!
-
Woo hoo, I won a CD!!
Congrats! You go girl.
-
Woo hoo, I won a CD!!
Congratulations, DR TPunk!
-
Umm, how am I supposed to catch up on 35 pages???
You guys were busy!
I'm sort of disapointed that there were no surprises in any of the acting categories. And even CRASH winning over BROKEBACK I don't think was that big of a surprise (well a little). But all the analysts on the ABC preshow said CRASH had gained huge momentum in the past 2 weeks and could easily win.
-
Host: 8
Award Results: 4
Show: 2 (montage overkill)
I would have preferred that instead of 2 or 3 of those montages, they had just had all of the women walk across the stage so that I could have gotten a better look at their gowns.
-
I have not read what others have posted, but I was really annoyed that they cut off two people before they even got a chance to speak (one was the CRASH writer/producer). I found it REALLY rude!
-
Woo hoo, I won a CD!!
Congrats! I'm jealous. ;)

The coverage of the red carpet was pretty lousy. We kept turning to the different stations. You could see some of the dresses on WGN better than other channels....well when the co-hosts breasts weren't in the way
-
DR Dan (the Man) - Don't forget to e-mail and/or PM your snail mail address.
You got it, DR Jose! (Umm..you're not passing along a certain pair of black underwear, are you?)
-
I'm trying to decide who wore my favorite dress. While Keira Knightley and Charlize Theron looked good (they always do). There was something about each of their dresses that was not my favorite.
I thought Reese looked gorgeous. And jennifer anniston was simple and elegant. Jessica alba was quite nice. And felicity looked regal. I did really like Michelle williams. I think doing a bold color like that is great. And she was totally glowing.
-
And OMG that pimp song was hilarious. Loved it! :)
-
This was fun. Glad my party friends were wussburgers so I could join you all here. But it's time for me to get sleep. I did a lot of work this weekend. Well, Friday and today. I'm very sleepy and think I'll hit the hay
-

You can check out the gowns on Oscars.com
-
It will take me a while to get over Felicity Huffman's loss.
-
I liked Naomi watts and Nicole kidman's dresses. I like that tan/beigy color. It must have been popular this year since uma was wearing the same color!
-
It will take me a while to get over Felicity Huffman's loss.
I expected the loss, but I really wanted Felicity to win, too
-
Oh i just read BK's comments about them playing music under the speeches. Let me say whoever had this idea should be shot. This drove me crazy! I wanted to scream so many times.
-
Night all can't wait to see how many posts are here by morning!
-
The coverage of the red carpet was pretty lousy. We kept turning to the different stations. You could see some of the dresses on WGN better than other channels....well when the co-hosts breasts weren't in the way
I had to visualize everything in my mind since I was at work...
-

I would have been introuble... Bring on the CC in that situation...
-
Are we headin' toward 1100 posts? We are indeed. NOW, I'm going to get some snack or other.
-
I just turned off my TV. I don't need to watch any of the Oscar wrap-up stuff. :P
-
I am going to eat some cereal and watch LEAVE IT TO BEAVER, now
Where in the heck did this weekend go?
-
I just turned off my TV. I don't need to watch any of the Oscar wrap-up stuff. :P
I have 53 minutes until I am off of work....

I have 53 minutes until I am off of work....
Where do you work??
-
Congrats! I'm jealous. ;)
Well, just wait till you hear what DR Dan (the Man) has won!
;D
-
Page 37...calling Page 37...Are you here, Page 37??
;)
-
This is Page 37!!
-
Where do you work??
NDSU library - night supervisor
-
You got it, DR Jose! (Umm..you're not passing along a certain pair of black underwear, are you?)
Honey, if I had that pair, trust me, that would be the last thing i would pass along!
<snap>
;D
-
Okay, I think I am coming down with a cold and I have to get to bed if I'm going to be any good at work tomorrow. Good night all!
-
Hmm... I guess I'll watch a bit of Jimmy Kimmel Live's wrap-up show...
-
It's been fun - 'night, everybody!
-
Hmm... I guess I'll watch a bit of Jimmy Kimmel Live's wrap-up show...
from the elportal theatre
-
Well, I'm actually gonna stand up for a bit and stretch out my legs. I really don't think I've left this chair all night. YIKES!
-
They really flogged CRASH out in LA with the voters. The Writers appeared at Guild Theatre screenings. I got DVD screeners from both SAG and the WGA. Like JRand, I was kinda pushing for GOOD NIGHT & GOOD LUCK sweep. Glad George walked away with an Oscar from his other film.
-
Whatever happened to Mason Reese?
He was killed by a land mine during the first Desert Storm..........
that's where we got Reese's Pieces.
-

*groan**
-
Winding down... Well we have something to shoot for next year. 40 pages!
Fun and funny posts, all. Take care.
-
I, too, got a Crash DVD screener. Shortly we will pass 1100 postings.
-
Right now, I'm listening to the complete recording of Sweet Charity with Jacqueline Dankworth as Charity. Her British accent shows itself every once in a while and pulls you out of the New York setting. I can't imagine, however, the Britons feel about how Americans do British accents. ;)
-
Did I miss the report on the production of SWEENEY TODD in L.A. this afternoon in all the Oscar hubbub? Or do we have to wait for the notes?
-
I do think I may have missed a page or two of posts somewhere in wandering from the Tv in the living room to the computer in the bedroom work nook.
-
But I'll ramble a little bit so that I can be here for historic post #1100.
-
Hmmm. maybe I'll even BE post #1100...
-
No rambling is necessary. See? Another post. :D
-
unless someone beats me to it.
-
Nope...you did it!!
-
Wow, was I really post #1100. I'd like to thank all the people who made this moment possible, all the computer repair guys at Tek-serve, the doctors who kept me from getting carpel tunnel syndrome, and of course my parents, my dear spouse, and even though I'm Jewish, I'd like to join the PIMP-song composers in thanking Jesus.
-
Cool beans!! You did it FJL!!
-
I probably should have put a smiley after that last post. Hope it offends no one, especially the pimps out there and Sally Fields. :) :) :)
-
Going to head out from work and perhaps i will sign in at home.....
It was fun tonight!! Thanks!!!
-
One of the most heart-felt speeches of the entire evening! ;D
-
And of course, with EVERY post tonight, we're setting a whole new HHW record...and we're heading to page 38!
-
I mean Sally Field, or maybe I mean all the "Sally Fields" of the world, come to think of it.
-
Do you think they'll turn out like Hilary Swank and Chad Lowe?? "This is Mrs. Norman Maine."
I don't think so. I believe that Ryan Phillippe is straight.
-
Shall we sally forth to page 38?
-
I don't think so. I believe that Ryan Phillippe is straight.
What?? Chad's not?? Hope springs eternal. ;)
-
And I think Hope summers in the Hamptons.
-
Hope winters in Miami.
-
Or should something about Hope falls be between where she summers and winters?
But I am indeed rambling.
Maybe Hope falls in the Ramble.
Wonder if the West Coasters will get us to page 40 tonight!
-
Good Morning!
Well, once I got up and stretched my legs a bit, I realized my right leg had sort of locked up again. Actually, it sort of feels like when I had sciatica in my left leg. Hmm... Guess it's my body telling me, "Start exercising again!"
In the meantime, I think I'm gonna do some stretches and then put my feet up - literally - and get some sleep. Yes, I shall have to WUSSBURGER, but this is also the week that I need to start getting my body clock back on the "early" schedule in preparation for the Lestat orchestra rehearsals which start at 9:00am(?!?!?!?!). So...
I really did have a swell time tonight.
Goodnight.
-
I mentioned Sweeney briefly, but I'll have more to say in the notes.
-
Ate a couple of bagels and some cookies.
-
Well, I just hauled my cookies all the way back to page 8 - was that "pretty okay" post the only mention so far of the SWEENEY production?
-
By the way, BK, did you ever have a chance to send us that package of CD's?
I probably should have asked that in an email to be more efficient, but I figured what the heck, it adds another post. :)
-
Is page 40 but a dream?
-
Time for me to wussberger.
Goodnight, George and Dakota.
If the West Coasters can't get to page 40, maybe you can try for something easier, like 1200 posts.
:)
-
Nighty night FJL!!
-
I just noticed something.... I put on nearly 100 posts tonight!
-
Well I've caught up! I lurked. Decided not to watch the Oscars tonight. I'm not missing much it seems. instead we will watch the winner of the Animation oscar.
-
My interest in the Awards USED TO BE for song and score and I've collected most songs nominated since 1940 and of course many of the earlier ones too.
I still haven't recovered for Eminem's win the other year. To me it was not a SONG at all. This year's! . I have the CD already ordered!! I'll probably never play it more than once - as with Eminem's and Bjork's efforts.
-
Acadamy rules say something about if not enough "worthy" songs then there will only be three nominees. Were any of these "worthy"? I hate to think what the unworthy songs sounded like!
-
All those great song by Randy Newman that didn't win in the past! What a waste when you look at this year.
-
I've not seen most of the films nominated so I really can't comment on my view of the performances.
I do have "The Constant Gardener" and was certainly pleased to see it get an award. I've also seen "March Of The Penguins" - with Mr Freeman filling in for the orginal French.

Eminem's "music" is not music... It is noise
-
Of the technical award films, I enjoyed the work on "Narnia" but did not see "King Kong".
I think "War Of The Worlds" missed out.. It missed the boat for me as a movie entirely.
-
I'm always pleased to see a "Child Star" come into the bigtime. I'd loved Jodi Foster's "Little Girl..." and had felt the same about the early movies of Reece Witherspoon. So many child stars get left along the way.
-
I was pleased that BM received the award for the score. Compensation for the ineligibilty (quite technical) of the song that would have otherwise won!
-

I was not impressed with War of the Worlds at all. I did like Narnia.

I agree... Many do get left behind and Reese has matured as an actress..
-
OzDerek would have been thrilled so see his favourite actor win the oscar. He also really liked "Crash".
-
Last year's winner for "Score" was certainly IMHO one of the best in many a year. "Finding Neverland". I'm not a fan of Mr William's scores which to my mind could be interchangeable. (I know I Know I know).
-
I was not impressed with War of the Worlds at all. I did like Narnia.
I bought "War of the Worlds" (used) but haven't watched it yet. I suppose I will...someday.
-
At least there was one Australian winner this year.. Cinematography.
-
We made special efforts to go and see "WofW" and "Charlie & the Choc Factory" on the big screen - both big disappointments.
-
I also bought a used copy of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," and like "WOTW," I haven't watched it, either. ::)
-
[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]~~~ PAGE 39 DANCE!! ~~~[/move]
-
Wow...39 pages! Who'da thunk it? ;)
-
And now, this is my gratuitous 6800th Post! ;D
-
On the other hand (the left) a trip to the cinema to see "Narnia" was very much worthwhile.
-
20+ posts and page 40 may be reached! It's possible in 40 minutes.
-
I enjoyed "Narnia" very much. I can't wait to see how the rest turn out...assuming that the other six books will be made into movies. :)
-
Where are NW DRs Ann and Jed? Perhaps I should not ask that.
-
20+ posts and page 40 may be reached! It's possible in 40 minutes.
Let's do it! ;D
-

I liked that score...
-
Let's do it! ;D
I am game. I would love to hit 1200
-
Last year's nominees included films I am really pleased to have added to my collection - great to share with others and to rewatch. I'm not sure that this year's films will match up.
-
I enjoyed "Narnia" very much. I can't wait to see how the rest turn out...assuming that the other six books will be made into movies. :)
I really liked the books and I did enjoy the movie. I also enjoyed the BBC version that was done back in the 1990s.
-
Last year's favourites for me were "The Chorus", "Finding Neverland" and "The Motorcycle Diaries".
-
Another score I really like is from a few years ago, Michael Collins.
-
40 pages. Can you imagine the errant and truant when they log on in the morning?
-
My sister bought the Narnia videos that BBC did. My aunt is a nun down in California and my sister gave our aunt the videos and bought herself the DVD set when that was released.
-
It think we only need about ten or twelve more posts to reach page 40. I'm going to write the notes now.
-
40 pages. Can you imagine the errant and truant when they log on in the morning?
They will be shocked and in awe! ;D
-
Last year's favourites for me were "The Chorus", "Finding Neverland" and "The Motorcycle Diaries".
Motorcyle Diaries was good but I loved Finding Neverland and I do have that in my collection. Beautifully done.
-
I will certainly buy a copy of "The Chronicles Of Narnia" on DVD. I have ordered a copy of "Mrs Henderson Presents". It is issued in the UK this month.
-

They are going to be stunned when they see this tomorrow!
-
I will certainly buy a copy of "The Chronicles Of Narnia" on DVD. I have ordered a copy of "Mrs Henderson Presents". It is issued in the UK this month.
I still want to see "Mrs. Henderson Presents." I don't remember if it's still playing around here, but I certainly plan to buy it, also.
-
I will certainly buy a copy of "The Chronicles Of Narnia" on DVD. I have ordered a copy of "Mrs Henderson Presents". It is issued in the UK this month.
I look forward to getting Narnia on DVD and also Brokeback Mountain. I hear the latter comes out in April.
-
I still want to see "Mrs. Henderson Presents." I don't remember if it's still playing around here, but I certainly plan to buy it, also.
I have heard about it but it has not come to Fargo yet.
-
We must be getting close to page 40
-
I feel like a petulant child in the backseat whining....
Are we there yet?
-
"Mrs Henderson.." had done very well at the Box Office here - but then Australia loves Dame Judi Dench.
-
For quite a while, I thought that "The Motorcycle Diaries" was the title to the movie written by, directed by, starring, produced by, cinematography by, edited by, ........... etc., etc., etc., Vincent Gallo, but his movie is actually called "The Brown Bunny." I had heard of this movie (BB), and that it was all about this guy riding his motorcycle for more than an hour of the movie, so that's why I thought it was called "The Motorcycle Diaries." But it's not, it's called "The Brown Bunny." From what I've heard about it, it's not a very good movie.
-
The next post will get us to Page 40!! ;D
-
I'm hopeful that "Howell's Moving Castle" will be issued here this month. It had a very short season at the cinemas here - I blinked and missed the opportunity.
-
Welcome to page 40.
-
I'm hopeful that "Howell's Moving Castle" will be issued here this month. It had a very short season at the cinemas here - I blinked and missed the opportunity.
I'd never even heard of it until tonight. :-\

-
HOOO and RAY!!!!!!!!!!
Man, We rock!!!!
-
Shameful DR George - the movie has been mentioned quite often on this site. I think BK's copy was sent to him by Hisaka.
It must so difficult to compare the forms of animation when deciding the nominees etc.
-
I've not seen "Hoo" but I do have the DVD of "Ray" on the shelf - still unwatched!
-
I'm grasping at straws here - just to keep the posts alive.
-
was Just reading something while I was looking for a picture of Liz Taylor when seh was on GH...
I did not realize that Tristan Rogers, who played Robert Scorpio on GH, was from Melbourne, Australia!
-
Of course if we can manage another 20 posts we may give DR FJL a lovely surprise - given his impossible challenge!
-
I've not seen "Hoo" but I do have the DVD of "Ray" on the shelf - still unwatched!
HOO could be related to Pooh but I have seen Ray and that was good...
-
Australians are everywhere. Ms Watts and Mr Bana are truly representative of the talent here.
-
A lot of Aussie actors in the American soaps....
-
Australians are everywhere. Ms Watts and Mr Bana are truly representative of the talent here.
Naomi is a beautiful actress. I also like Nicole Kidman
-
Tristan Rogers and Justin Melvey are two that come to mind...
-
Shameful DR George - the movie has been mentioned quite often on this site. I think BK's copy was sent to him by Hisaka.
Shows you how observant I am. :-\
-
Of course we have the talented Cate B, Rachel G, Toni C, Judy D, and someone Jackman who are rather well known too.
And Heath someone too!
-
(http://www.generalhospital.tv/immagini/storia/gh_robert_helena.jpg)
Here is a still of Tristan Rogers and Liz Taylor on General Hospital...
-
I suspect I left out Ms Kidman from my list for a reason. LOL
I am NOT a fan.

Of course we have the talented Cate B, Rachel G, Toni C, Judy D, and someone Jackman who are rather well known too.
And Heath someone too!
A rich array of talent
Russell Crowe also...
Some also clump Mel Gibson in that bunch also...
-
I think FJL owes us if we make 1200
What do you say?
-
His name escapes me right now but I do greatly admire the actor that plays Nick on McLeod's daughters....
He is HOT!!!
-
Joel E is doing OK for himself as well.
-
Never watch McLeod's Daughter's - Way too unrealistic!

He is gorgeous...
I really enjoy the show when I get the chance to see it..

I don't include Mr Crowe or Mr Gibson. (NZ and USA)

I stand corrected.. I thought Mr. Crowe was from Australia...
Mr. Gibson was born in the US?
-
I can't remember but either Guy Pearce or Hugo Weaving was born in one of the African countries (possibly Nigeria). I'm too lazy to check.

I did not know that...
I remember him doing the Mad Max movies in OZ i think...

Mr Gibson was indeed born in the USA. Mr Crowe did much of his early drama/film training in Australia but was from New Zealand.
"Spotswood" is an interesting film in which to see early performances by Mr Crowe, and Toni Colette.
-
According to IMDb:
Hugo Wallace Weaving was born on April 4, 1960 in Nigeria.
Born in 1967 in Cambridgeshire, England, Guy Pearce emigrated to Australia to live in Geelong, Victoria, with his family when he was three years old

I think we safely shattered last years record by almost 300 posts!
-
Mel Columcille Gerard Gibson was born on January 3, 1956, in Peekskill, New York, USA.
-
No doubt DR FJL shall send us a sparkling prize each.
It is now time for my evening meal. Nearly 7.00pm here.
Goodnight folk.
