Well, you've read the notes, you know the magic number is 190,000, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're rehearsing for a revival of Whoop Up! right now.
-
And the word of the day is: LIBATION!
-
Let the roll towards 190K begin!
-
And with that, I will begin my roll towards the Land of Nod.
-
Libation? I'm sure that most dinner parties that will be discussed will include much libation. I don't partake, myself, but I wouldn't prevent anyone else from enjoying.
As for the Topic of the Day Dinner Parties (assuming I had all the money that I'd need), I'd like to have an official round-the-world HHW event...fly every HHW poster to some place exotic, where no one's been and party like there's no tomorrow. I'd hire a world class caterer/party planner to take care of all the details because if it were left to me, I'd just order pizza. ::) I don't think that that would be special enough for a special HHW party. ;D
-
And on that note (A#), I'm off to bed. Nighty-night!
-
I've received an e-mail asking me the derivation of the expression, "Divoon" which we use here a lot at haineshisway.com. My memory is that it's from one of the Frank Tashlin Jayne Mansfield films - anyone remember?
-
I first heard it in the movie GREASE, so they were probably referencing a term from the fifties, which indeed could've been a Tashlin-Mansfield film.
-
I guess the charcaters will be having quite a few libations in the all-live LORD OF THE RINGS.
Have I mentioned I'll be E&T (Entertained and Traveled) today, seeing LORD OF THE RINGS in Toronto?
Oh, that's right, I have mentioned it. :)
-
Sorry I'll miss the big countown to 190,000.
-
I haven't seen Charlotte Rae in anything since I saw 70, GIRLS, 70 at the El Portal several years ago. Looking forward to the Encores show, and especially Rodzinski's Playbill.
Have a great day, all.

Geez, where is everyone?? I'm all by myself and no posts in the last two hours??
-
Well Jayne said that immortal line in WILL SUCCESS SPOIL ROCK HUNTER? in describing Tony Randall's character to her fiance' on the telephone. Her translations of what Randall was saying are priceless and so DIVOON may have been a creation of George Axelrod, but Jayne did appropriate it and make it part of her own vernacular.
-
Good morning, all! I slept very late, I've been catching up on last night's posts, and voila!
I have nothing to report. I may see our DR Jose later today, but for the nonce, I have work on Toyland and some band parts to occupy my time.
TOD: It would all depend on the event
Orchestrator night: Otto Langey, Frank Saddler, Harold Sanford, Philip J. Lang, Robert Russell Bennett
Musical Theatre night: Victor Herbert, Jerome Kern, Jerome Moross,
Frank Loesser, Richard Rodgers
-
Well - like DR GEORGE a meeting of the HHW'ers would be fascinating....but ....hmmm
Present company excepted, my idea of a nice dinner party would include:
Harlan Ellison, Stephen Sondheim, Illeana Douglas, Rita Moreno, and Betsy Palmer.
And Carroll Baker.
-
On DEAD PEOPLE night, I would have:
Allison Hayes, John Agar, Shelley Winters, Troy Donahue, and Henry Willson.
And Frances Farmer. 8)
-
Continuing the discussion from last night:
Di$ney is all about money and control. Ask Annette Joanne Funicello - her family sued Disney in 1959 saying that at the time they signed Annette's first contract for the MMC they were not represented by an agent and did not have the advantage of professional advice. They wanted a raise for Annette (the only original Mouse to remain under contract) and better future terms.
They lost. Annette was under contract for ALL activity to Disney Studios until early 1964, earning for ALL her years and work there a total of $250,000. Most of that came in her last year when Disney voluntarily gave her a raise to $1500 per week with a 40 week guarantee. By then she was represented by Jack Gilardi, the man she eventually married.
-
NCAA - you wacky people and your football.
-
On DEAD PEOPLE night, I would have:
Allison Hayes, John Agar, Shelley Winters, Troy Donahue, and Henry Willson.
And Frances Farmer. 8)
DR JRand55, if you're having Henry Willson to dinner, DR MBarnum better be invited so he can learn how many of Mr Willson's clients were "gifted."
-
Good morning!
Pretty nice day so far though it's cooling down and will only be in the mid 50s today. How quickly we get spoiled by 60-70 degree weather only to have it taken away for awhile longer.
-
Last week, I bought a two liter bottle of Diet Black Cherry Vanilla Coke.
I was not a fan at all of Diet Vanilla Coke (vanilla flavoring was way too strong), but this black cherry vanilla is better. The two flavors are rather balanced and thus one doesn't overpower the other. I did buy another bottle of it this week, but only as an alternative to regular Diet Coke which continues to be a mainstay here.
-
DR JRand55, if you're having Henry Willson to dinner, DR MBarnum better be invited so he can learn how many of Mr Willson's clients were "gifted."
Very true, DRELMORE. But I didn't want to mix my HHW'ers with my civilians. ;D
And I don't have a table big enough for everyone HERE that I would be invited. ;D Just choosing 4, 6, or 8 HHW'ers would be impossible.
-
DR DakotaCelt, I read this morning that a favorite movie you mentioned the other night - CHEYENNE AUTUMN - is being released June 6th, so that will give you something to look forward to.
Warners is doing two John Ford boxes in June was well. One is a big John Ford-John Wayne box with new versions of THE SEARCHERS, STAGECOACH, and their other films together which Warners controls the rights to. The other will be a Ford box with such films as CHEYENNE AUTUMN and MARY OF SCOTLAND among others.
For Ford and Wayne fans, sounds like heaven.
-
For dinner parties, I'd do a theater based dinner with folks like Stephen Sondheim, John Kander, and Harvey Schmidt. (Only three guests so the party doesn't get too big).
I'd do a movie based one with George Clooney, Susan Sarandon, and Tim Robbins.
I'd do a TV producer based one with Marc Cherry, Joss Whedon, and J. J. Abrams.
As for what I'd serve, I'd have to find out if any were vegetarians. If not, definitely something rich and caloric like beef stroganoff, asparagus with hollandaise, and chocolate cheesecake for dessert.
-
Before I put HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE on the shelf with the other ones, I'm going back through the film again and should be finished with it today. Then, I'd like to settle in tonight with the remaining three FIREFLY episodes which I haven't yet seen. That will finish up that boxed set.
I got MURDER SHE WROTE season 3 in the mail the other day, so I may start with it or get back to ANGEL season 3, but this will likely be tomorrow.
-
Off to work....
Nice guest lists!
-
NCAA - you wacky people and your football.
That's exactly the way I feel about it! ;D
-
My dinner party... I would have President Bush and Dick Cheney, my public policy professor from last semester, 10 out of the millions of children who are currently suffering from poverty and malnutrition, and Angelina Jolie (because she demonstrates a level of social awareness, and also because she is outrageous and hot and I think she's great)
Bush and Cheney would have to eat mayonaise sandwiches and/or maybe split a pack of ramen noodles between the two of them, representing what most families subsisting on food stamps have left at the end of the month. Everyone else gets the same dinner served the inauguration ball.
-
LOL, DR TPunk. I love your reasoning!
-
No dance for Page Two!
But a nice Disney vista from TARZAN!
-
Heading down now for some general household work before settling in for the afternoon with some DVDs.
Since I'm not interesting in the NCAA tournament, I'll be DVDing it this evening for sure.
-
'Morning all!
When the repair man showed up yesterday, he told me that a tree branch was blocking the signal but he wouldn't cut it down for me. With that, he left. He did leave the parts and told me to call him when I could manage to get the limb down.
So Dear Readers, guess what I had to do? Cutting tree limbs are NOT on the list of things that I should do but I did it.
Instead of calling HIM back, I went ahead and reset the dish myself and got the satellite working all by myself. Sigh. So much for customer service. :-\
TomovOz--I really enjoyed seeing the Bear pictures. They really made me :).
-
Danise, I think you have officially done everything on the list of things not to do after having major surgery! Take care of yourself!!!
-
Danise, I think you have officially done everything on the list of things not to do after having major surgery! Take care of yourself!!!
I know. It wasn't planned, believe me. Every time I say that's the last thing I'm going to do that I shouldn't, something else happens.
I need to go back to work so I can relax! I still have 2 whole weeks of "rest" ahead of me. Lord only knows what else is going to happen in that time. I don't know if I'm going to make it. :D
-
Good morning. I am drinking my coffee and awaiting the arrival of Digger the dog who will be spending the week with uncle Mike and cousin Freddy while his owners, Mark and James, are in Wyoming visiting Mark's family.
-

I hope Mark and James have a wonderful time. I know that Digger will enjoy his vist with you, DR MBarnum.

I'm up, I'm up, a bit earlier than I'd like to be, but not by much.
I figured divoon was from Rock Hunter.
Now let's reach our new plateau, shall we?

Hi, bk, ginny, Matt...
I had great ideas for the changes to my play which my fabu new mentor suggested! So today will be a bit of a work day. Also going to my sister Tami's son Jesse's fiancee's mother's house this morning to help assemble the invitations to the wedding.
Oh, what a beeyootifull mornin'!!
-
So, Bruce, how was the play last night??
-
Already told a few folks about the possible cast change - maybe a dozen of my peeps would show for the event...
-
Well, ONWARD!!
-
Ginny: should I contact the Arts Org directly, with my Art as Lifework seminar/cum performance/cum arts-in-ed proposal??
-
Saturday morning greetings! I was up early this morning to go to the grocery before having to leave in a little over an hour to take my empty car to the University of Cincinnati to move DS Rob home for spring and summer quarters. He starts his co-op job a week from Monday.
TOD - funny you should ask, BK, about dinner parties because I'm throwing one tomorrow night. The guests will be:
My mother
My aunt (her sister)
My two cousins and the son of one of them
My niece Laura, who many Hainsies/Kimlets met a year ago this weekend when we gathered in NYC for DR PennyO's show
My son Rob
My aunt's two sons live in Georgia and Japan. The one from Japan, who has lived there and taught English for almost 20 years, arrived in GA with his teenage son a couple of days ago and the three of them are now on their way to Ohio. My niece, a golf pro, is on her way from Illinois with the golf cart Rob and I are buying my mother to replace her car, which will become Rob's.
The menu is make-your-own tacos & trimmings. We will have both soft and crunchy shells, beef and chicken fillings, lots of veggies, Spanish rice, refried beans, salsa, sour cream - what have I forgotten? My mom and aunt are in charge of drinks and dessert.
-
Well, i guess you ARE enjoying your 5 day vacation! How did the book sale turn out? I love used book sales...
-
Ginny: should I contact the Arts Org directly, with my Art as Lifework seminar/cum performance/cum arts-in-ed proposal??
PennyO - why don't I pass along what you sent me (when I get back to work next week) and find out how they would prefer to proceed?
-
Yipes! 9 Ayem - I really must get on with it! okay, later, gaters!
-
Cool beans, Gin! Thanks. Have a swell day!
-
Well, i guess you ARE enjoying your 5 day vacation! How did the book sale turn out? I love used book sales...
The book sale continues today and tomorrow. The report this morning was that we'd made over $2200 Thursday evening and Friday. Sunday is the bag sale, in which customers buy a brown paper grocery bag for $4 and fill it with books. We move a lot on that last day. The money raised is used for scholarships.
DR PennyO and others might be interested in Book Sale Finder (http://www.booksalefinder.com)

The usual usage of E and T is errant and truant, but I like FJL's better

We are getting very close to 190,000 posts
-
If I'm right we only need about 6 more posts to make the milestone
-
I shall now be on my way to the Park of Oak to work with Mr. David Wechter, hence I may not be here for the new plateau, but I shall celebrate with the best of them upon my returning for which I know you'll be yearning.
-
I'm looking for Salsa recipes or anything else to do with lots of tomatoes and peppers
-
Danise, I think you have officially done everything on the list of things not to do after having major surgery! Take care of yourself!!!
I agree TPunk, DR Danise, please take care of yourselff....
On the case of customer service, I agree, that was rather poor of him...
-
We're almost there...

Get out the party hats and do a 190,000 post dance

The usual usage of E and T is errant and truant, but I like FJL's better

Yes, Dakota, we should meet, Fargo isn't that far. Let's wait until winter is over... Well, until the snow stops. Spring is next week, but we're supposed to have a ton of snow on that day, so....
-
Ok, I must be blind. Where does it say the number of posts????
-
It's on the opening page of the HHW Community Forum index. You see "Daily discussions" then it lists "topics" then "posts"
-
Yes, Dakota, we should meet, Fargo isn't that far. Let's wait until winter is over... Well, until the snow stops. Spring is next week, but we're supposed to have a ton of snow on that day, so....
Winter seems to want to hang on for some odd reason.... However, at least Texas and AZ are starting to get moisture...
I am ready for spring...
-
We've had a very mild winter and virtually no snow. I think I've had my snow blower out 2 or 3 times. We could miss this storm too, but it's unlikely. I'm really hoping for a big snow. I like it in the spring when it looks great and only lasts a few days. And when the temp is in the 30s
-
I'm going to go catch up on the posts from yesterday.

We had a rather decent winter with some snow but a not a lot until recently. We have had a lot of ice storms which is unusual for us in winter months. We have had temps in the 20s

DR Rodzinski, yesterday was a bad day at Blackrock for the Iowa teams or I guess you could say there was trouble right here in River City. I have to admit on a personal level I smiled because I decided not to get in the NCAA pool this year, I would have been toast on the Hawkeyes (my alma mater).
The Iowa State thing is interesting. I got the impression from the local news conference that they were looking for an excuse to fire the head coach and they said the bad publicity for the alleged scandal was a good enough reason. They weren't that clear about it, but that's what it sounded like to me.
The Hawkeyes wouldn't have made it to the final four anyway. They have some sort of a mental block with Duke and can NEVER beat them. They always seem to get in the same bracket as Duke too, it's sort of a sick joke of you ask me.
-
DR Francois, I remember FAMILY, it was one of my favorite shows at the time. I'm a year older than Kristy McNichol, so I really related to her then. Wasn't John Rubenstein the brother? Guess I could look at the link
-
Well, I think I'll go run my errands before any bad weather hits, if it hits indeed. I could use some house selling vibes today, my realtor thinks the people he's showing the house to in an hour could very well decide to buy it. That would just be too amazing. It just got a sign yesterday or the day before.
-

No dance for Page Two!
But a nice Disney vista from TARZAN!
Wouldn't that make it a Buena Vista?
-

THAT should look familiar (this very same artwork!) to DR Tomovoz, hey?!
Rent this movie! You won't regret it! :D

Continuing the discussion from last night:

Just an opinion: The Disney Company of the 50's and 60's should NOT be compared to the Company we know today!
Walt Disney was never a filthy rich man and never had the wealth that Mr Eisner knows...
Walt's nephew is a multi millionaire that Walt never was!
Most of the Disney Classics we know today lost money on their first and even second releases!
It's the merchandising that save the Compnay's arse, most of the times, and then, through the years (After Walt!) the theme parks!
We all know that Annette enjoyed and has fond memories of her tenure at the Disney Studios!
That's all I had to say... in my clumsy ways, as usual! ;)
(Walt learnt a lesson he remembered all his life when he lost the rights to Oswald!... )

Merideth Baxter. She hasn't been married to Birney in twenty years.
She WAS then!
(Hey! I'm French; you can't expect me to know that much about American entertainment!) ;)
Btw, how did you like my pun yesterday? I was very "proud" to come up with that! Maybe I should not be... I guess... I mean... Oh well! ;D

Oh puh-leez, François! You know everything about American entertainment. It is French kissing that you have forgotten.

Ain't that funny for Meredith to go from FAMILY to FAMILY TIES?!
AND she's divorced again and only 3 years older than I! Wow!

Oh puh-leez, François! You know everything about American entertainment. It is French kissing that you have forgotten.
Oh, NO! It's because of the... germs!
And it's like bicycle; once you "know" it you can't forget!
Or so they say!

And Kiss Me Once Again!
It's been A Long Long Long Time!" :-* :-*

I think I found my new home office color...it's called mother nature. It's a nice muted green. The office is on the second floor with lots of windows. There are trees outside that will be full of lovely leaves most of the year, I thought the green will make it feel a bit like a tree house.
Home Depot has a way you can buy a sample for a few bucks, think I'll go get one of that color so I can try it out before diving in. This color thing is so new to me, but I'm having fun with it.

Ever since we talked about favorite Jones / Schmidt songs, I have had the song I DO, I DO stuck in my head. There is nothing wrong with that, becasue I love the song; but it is kind of like a goldfish singing about the Sahara.
And how is Mr. Schmidt doing?
-
In honor of our milestone of 190,000 plus posts today I hereby announce that Anthony will be gone for part of the summer. He's going back to Mill Mountain Theatre in Roanoke, VA to play Maurice (Belle's father) in Beauty and the Beast. He's not wild about the fact that he's playing a father (at his young age). He thought he would be cast as Cogsworth or Lumiere but a part's a part as they say. It's six weeks of work in an otherwise desolate landscape. He will be gone from May 23rd to July 2nd. I will just have to depend on the kindness of New York HHWs to keep me company. I've already had kind offers from Rodzinkski and TPunk.
That's the news from a windy and rather cool Chelsea. It's hard to believe that Monday will be the first day of Spring.
We're having Tuna Glop for dinner tonight, BTW.

The French version is called
Adieu! Adieu!
which, I think, is a mistake!
A Deux, A Deux would be more appropriate!

Now, is BTW a new kimlet I haven't heard of?!

This in honour of Antoine!
Belle:
Papa, do you think I'm...odd?
Maurice:
My daughter odd? Where did you get an idea like that?
Belle:
I don't know. It's just that, well, people talk.
Maurice:
They talk about me, too.
Maurice:
No, we're not odd, its true
No fam'ly ever saner
Except one uncle who...well, maybe let that pass
In all you say or do
You couldn't make it plainer
You are your mother's daughter; therefore you are class
Belle:
So I should just accept
I'm simply not like them
Maurice:
They are the common herd
And you should take my word
You are unique: creme de la creme
No matter what you do
I'm on your side
And if my point of view
Is somewhat misty-eyed
There's nothing clearer in my life
Than what I wish and feel for you
And that's a lot...
No matter what
Belle:
No matter what they say
You make me proud
I love the funny way
You stand out from the crowd
Maurice:
It's my intention my invention
Shows the world out there one day
Just what we've got...
Belle:
No matter what
Maurice:
Now some may say all fathers just exaggerate
Belle:
That ev'ry daughter's great?
Maurice:
You are!
Belle:
And ev'ry daughter tends to say her father's tops
Maurice:
She pulls out all the stops
To praise him
Belle:
And quite rightly!
Maurice:
No matter what the pain
We've come this far
I pray that you remain
Exactly as you are
This really is a case of father knowing best
Belle:
And daughter too!
Maurice:
You're never strange
Belle:
Don't ever change
Both:
You've all I've got
No matter what.

Hey!!! LOL!!! I mock you
The strangest brit com I saw years ago was Allo Allo... It was a comedy set in World War 2 France and this farm family took in these two British pilots. It was a riot...
The French have been good to america through its history.... Lafayette was an ally to Washington!!

Hmmmm
The most interesting dinner party I have been two was a medeival one that a friend of mine put on and we had to go in costume. It was a blast! It was a small gathering and we had a 5 course meal.

I knew that he would get the role! Is the age thing really that bad? After all, it is well known that Belle was conceived as the result of a teenage indiscretion between Maurice and Sleeping Beauty. And since she is only 18, that would put Maurice only at about 34 or 35.
-
Congrats to Anthony and his new role!!!
-
Ben, great news about Ant!
-
Congratulations to Ant!!
-
Congrats to Anthony!!
-
Good afternoon!
Continued being a beautiful, cool day outside. No rain anywhere even though some forecasts said there was a slight chance of showers. Not a cloud in the sky right now.
-
Hooray for Anthony's casting. That's wonderful news!

Antonia, Anthony will kiss you when he reads this. I think you are now his favorite person.
I look forward to a summer with my HHW pals ;D

This afternoon I took out the EASTER PARADE DVD and watched the documentary on the making of the film on the second disc.
Then I watched the Judy Garland Emmy winning documentary BY MYSELF which is also on the disc. One of the very best specials ever devised about the Garland legend and legacy.
-
Tonight will be FIREFLY episodes since there is no prime time TV I'm interested in watching.
-
You never have to ask me either!
Ah, Lar, what a pal :D
The weeks will fly by.

Congratulations to Anthony!

And congratulations on hitting the 190,000 milestone!

Heading downstairs now to read a bit and then get set for an evening of DVD viewing.
WBBL.

190,000 postings! We have achieved our new plateau. Congratulations to one and all and also all and one. Onward to our incredibly major next plateau of 200,000 postings!
The read-through of the musical with writing partner David was very interesting. Much of it works really well and is really funny. Other bits we'll have to keep our eye on to see how they play with the actors and audience. Other things were so downright horrid that they boggled the mind, one long scene in particular. We'll be fixing those.
-
Congratulaions to Ant.

Gee, theater people can be so vain!! :o ;)
No! It's just that Anthony's personality matches Maurice's; sweet, nice, attentive and a little goofy!
(And I don't even know Anthony!! ;D 8) )
Actually, Maurice had an "indiscretion" with the Evil Queen but that's another story!
Yes, it's true; I read it in the national Enquirer as well as in US Magazine! :D
-
Congratulations to Grasshopper!

Mirthy beauCup!

Perhaps in the Desert regions, my cup runneth over with myrrh would be more approriate.
It could be a matter of age... which is elusive of course!
(Myrrh... age! Farfetched all right!)
-
If I neded to go to the Middle East to obtain my myrrh it would indeed be far fetched.
-
Little Boy Blue perhaps DR Elmore!
Tom Tom
Sorry, mean Uncle Barnaby is more to my liking; kids in comas cause no problems.
-
Myrrh is extracted from the thorns of the myrrha bush which grew along side the walls of Jericho.
Hence the expression - "myrrah myrrah on the wall".
-
That is of course a wailing (or groaning) wall joke.
-
I was going to write "Coma Suitya" but I think that is pushing the word plays way too far - and FJL is in Toronto. When he first sees the Rings on stage will he call out Hi Ho Silver I wonder.
Another really bad Tonto joke.
-
Have I had too much or too little coffee this morning I wonder.
Has Ann caught up?
-
Good Evening!
It will be soooo nice to have to wake up at 7:00am tomorrow. Soooo nice. :)
But in the meantime, I guess I have some catching up to do. And since I'm pretty sure I'm staying in for the evening, I should have the time to do so...
-Did that make sense? In any case...
Laters...

I won't ask How Are Things In Glocca Myrrha, of course! Thorny issue!

That explains all; you usually drink tea! ;)

Ann Boleyn?
I don't have a myrrh idea!
Better bang my head against a wall!

At least we can amuse ourselves DR François.
Indeed I do prefer Tea. (Because I Want To Be Happy).

Tea for Two at breakfast.
A NZ joke would be the following:
Picture ewe upon my knee!

Yes! Selfsatisfation is all what counts... or dukes... or princes!
And, like for the bicycle, it's better for two! Tea that is!
Somewhere Beyond The Tea...
Two For The Teasaw.

Tea for Two at breakfast.

That's a sheep, err, cheap joke!

For that number I should have brought my ewekulele!

Ann got turned off by the jokes I guess, and she turned us off!
-
George has followed Ann!
Must be that ewe #5 I'm wearring!
-
It's all ewe fault, Tom!
Are we reaching another plateau for the flock of sheep?
I feel like in a scene from Brokeback Mountain!
Cool beans!
-
We shall wether this storm François. Just keep ramming the sheep jokes home.
Australians tend to make sheep jokes about our New Zelaand neighbours where the sheep outnumber the humans (and hobbits).
-
Does an itchy sheep have fleece or knits?
-
Talk about ... ramming!
TCB has entered the scene!
-
Does an itchy sheep have fleece or knits?
Only TCB can answer that! ;)
-
Here comes TPunk!
Sjhe's so punktual!
-
He may try and pull the wool over our eyes DR François.. Perhaps you could then try French knitting.
-
Was it Jason who was searching for the golden fleas?
-
Does an itchy sheep have fleece or knits?
Get it! A pronunciation drill!
Like:
Les chaussettes de l'archi-duchesse sont-ellles sèches, archi sèches?!
Tes laitues naissent-elles.
Yes, mes laitues naissent!
-
Was it Jason who was searching for the golden fleas?
Argue, me? Not! :D
-
Oh my goodness, what witty company I am in.

Now we have ship as well as sheep references.

Though I believe no matter how bad the puns, at least there is a mind that is agile in residence!
The anti punsters are usually people who would not have the mental agility to think of one!

Now we have ship as well as sheep references.
Yes, but when my ship (oh, a Lady In The Dark reference!) comes in I'll be at the Airport with Maureen Stapelton!
Ain't that "knit"?

Some of today's puns certainly seem from shear desperation!

I feel like such a moron, I have seen Babe about 10 times, but until I saw that spelled out just now, I never got it.

Congrats to Anthony.
What has he done again?
Oh.... sorry! ;)
"Te adoro, Anton!"

Didn't you say something about that yesterday? ;)

LOL, I didn't get it either and I've also seen BABE a number of times. I actually had a cat that would stop whatever he was doing when it was on and sit and watch it. Now I have a cat who loves the weather channel. Go figure

You should have asked the cat! He would have told you!
Cats are smart! ;)

Weather Channel #5 is the best!
That's what Uncle Remus said, and what Coco used to say!

Freddy the Cat only watches the Bollywood version of Babe called Bombay!

Growing up my cats used enjoy watching cartoons. Neither Walty or Killbot has ever really showed the least amount of interest in tv.
They were however VERY interested in the baby that just paid us a visit!
-
A friend and former co-worker of Rodzinski's just dropped by with her husband and new baby for a brief visit. They moved to Buffalo last fall and it was our first time seeing the little guy.

I have officially completed 3 pages of my paper. Now that it only one more page than I began with this morning... but I did put a lot of work into reorganizing the first two pages. The paper now has a very strong and well organized introduction, and I finally have a clear picture in my head of the structure for the remainder of the paper.
-
I can't wait until I'm no longer a student.
-
I've cleared the room with my talk of babies and midterms. It's just me and BK.

I shall now be on my way to the theater, after which I shall return. Keep the partay going, you dear, dear people out there in the dark.

The LOTR has returned to cyberspace!
FJL's (and Skip's) review .......
-
DR TPunk: "Babe" is the perfect Business Management theory based film and covers major concepts:
Conflict in Ownership goals: the farmer and his wife
Conflict in management styles. Babe and Sheepdogs
Technology replacing workers. Alarm clock and rooster
Outside takeovers - sheep rustling
Unionism - MA
Reluctance to adapt
Multi skilling
Communication.
And the significance of the round peg in the square hole factor - the duck!
It was a brilliant teaching aid.
-
Tomovoz - Skip had to hold me back because i was about to do LONE RINGER AND TORONTO jokes - in Toronto!
-
No wonder I like You!!
-
The LOTR stage show is quite something as a spectacle beyond anything I've seen in a piece that's telling a story (of what I've seen, only Cirque du Soleil's "O" has surpassed it visually). Both Skip and I thought the choreography/musical staging was among the best large-scale work we've seen in terms of character and storytelling. Our trip to Toronto was a day well-spent.
I can't begin to predict the critics' reactions, though. I suspect that the critical reception of the show next week will depend upon how much the critics are willing to accept a mega-musical (or some might call it a mega-play-with-songs-and-choreography) where you just might get lost from time to time if you don't know the story going in.
-
Congrats to Anthony on the BATB casting news!
-
Thanks Fred.. We are very tempted - let's hope it survives until mid October.
-
I need to go back to work so I can relax! I still have 2 whole weeks of "rest" ahead of me. Lord only knows what else is going to happen in that time. I don't know if I'm going to make it. :D
LOL! I can SO relate to this. The week I allowed myself after surgery on my elbow was probably the most effective week of house-cleaning I ever had.
I blame the Vicodin, 'cause after every dose, I'd spot something that bothered me...and before I knew it (sometimes after 90 minutes or so) I'd taken care of it -- cleaned it, sorted, rearranged it, etc., etc.
I was glad to go to work just to get away from the cleaning!
-
At least we can amuse ourselves DR François.
There's a joke in there somewhere...but it requires TCB, I think!
-
Spent some time yakking on the phone this morning, and then watched a few hours of "Discovery" channel...one reenactment of the Howard Carter story..the man who found King Tut's tomb...followed by an investigation of the real cause of King Tut's death (murders has been ruled OUT, in case I was the only one here who had not heard that).
I nodded off before I learned the true cause of death, but was not a deliberate act on the part of anyone else, the show said.
-
To the theory of murder, the experts did say, "Tut tut."
-
Cillaliiz, now we'll see if your Iowa coach becomes the coach of the Indiana Hoosiers.
-
Odd movie today on Fox Movie Channel I watched:
The great Steve Cochran alongside the heavily filtered visage of Merle Oberon in the 1963 film, OF LOVE AND DESIRE.
It was the last film for Cochran that would really see the light of day, and it has a lot of beautiful scenery and location work. I recommend it if only as an opportunity to see Cochran in a rare sympatheic role.
-
Good evening!
I've had a full evening of very ecclectic offerings on DVD and TV.
I finished up the Judy Garland biographical documentary BY MYSELF. Highly recommended to all who haven't yet gotten EASTER PARADE or taken the time to watch the extras on the second disc.
-
Next, I finished HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE which I was watching one last time before putting it on the shelf for a little while. Makes me eager to read the book now to get all the backstories that the film must have left out.
-
Next came an episode from the last disc in the FIREFLY set. Grand adventure and emotional involvement - Joss Whedon trademarks.
I only have two episodes of the set left, and I'll be so unhappy when I get to the end. I will hate to leave these wonderful characters.
-
Since I was in a Joss Whedon frame of mind, I took the third season of ANGEL off the shelf and watched the first episode of it from disc 1. Instantly transported back into that fascinating world even though I hadn't watched any ANGEL episodes in quite some time.
-
And then I noticed a 2004 film on Showtime I hadn't seen but was curious about - TWISTED with Samuel E. Jackson and Ashley Judd. I had liked Ashley Judd's mysteries KISS THE GIRLS and ALONG CAME A SPIDER, so I was hoping for something of the same thing here.
Well, there was certainly an attempt at a mystery, but it was SO obvious, and the plotting and characters so pathetically laid out that it was really an embarrassment to watch. I won't begin to go into the inanities of the story, but let this serve as a warning to anyone who might be curious about this loser of a mystery. Save yourself 95 minutes of your life.
-
Tomorrow more FIREFLY and more ANGEL and I may put in one of the remaining two Miss Marples from the box though I saw both of them fairly recently on the DVDs I had burned for myself from TCM.
-
Cillaliiz, now we'll see if your Iowa coach becomes the coach of the Indiana Hoosiers.
I haven't paid any attention to the Alford going to Indiana rumors for years. It comes up every spring and he seems to stay We'll see what happens this year

I used to hang out in bars and drink beer and watch a lot of basketball. I pretty much quit doing that about 5 years ago and I've totally lost touch with Basketball. I really haven't missed it, but I have had lots of fun with the NCAAs in the past. I went to the Regionals in Tucson back in...oh man, maybe 1990 or so...it was a blast! With all the upsets, I may start watching.
-
Just finished THE BIG BEAT starring William Reynolds and a host of 1950s musical acts like THE DIAMONDS, THE DEL VIKINGS, THE LANCERS (?), GOGI GRANT, THE MILLS BROS. and more...fairly entertaining...this was a DVDr that I purchased...the print and sound were horrible and I paid a fortune for it, but I am glad to finally have been able to see it.
-
And I am now very curious about THE LANCERS.
-
Which Lafayette?
The dog in the Aristocats?!
Never thought of that....
-
Now we have ship as well as sheep references.
In Montana, the women are scarce and the sheep are scared

I liked Ashley Judd in Double Jeopardy. It reminded mei in a way of Double Indemnity
-
DOUBLE JEOPARDY was a hundred times more entertaining than TWISTED.

MBarnum, are the Four Aces in that one?

Back from a very good show, with a swell audience of very receptive folks. In the notes I shall at long last let the cat out of the bag.

Sounds intriguing... ;)
-
MBarnum, are the Four Aces in that one?
Yes they are!
-
I am home. I've been gone all day, and a long day it's been...but it should have been longer. Let me explain:
When I went to bed last night, I had every intention of going in to work to make up five hours that I didn't work during my regular week (long lunches with errands, leaving a little early, etc.), but when I woke up, I dilly-dallied and procrastinated by watching a bit of TV (two hours worth). Then, when I finally got out of bed (it was about 11:00 a.m. at this point), I went to take a shower, but decided to wash my bathtub. I've sort-of washed it before (not as thoroughly one should, though), and I had never used any of the Soft Scrub bleach product that I had gotten last year (I got a three-pack at Costco). So, I sprayed and spread it all over my tub and started soft-scrubbing (making sure that my bathroom door and window were opened).
-
The Soft Scrub worked fairly well, but was tiring with all that scrubbing...and it was bleach. Breathing in bleach for only 10 minutes or so (even with the breeze) was more than enough for me. I didn't get to finish the whole tub, but where I did get to was cleaner than it's been in a long, long time (I know, my bad). So I rinsed out everything and took my shower, shaved, got dressed, checked e-mail, ate, etc. I finally get to work at about 1:30 p.m. That's what should have made my day longer. I was planning on getting to work earlier, by 10:00 a.m., so that I would be done by 3:00 p.m. But no, I had to dilly-dally and procrastinate. I couldn't stay any longer than 5:00 p.m., because that's when the Central Reference people leave and I don't have a key to the building or the code to the security system. AND I had to work concessions for the Evening of Harmony A Cappella contest at 6:00 p.m., so I only got to work three and a half hours, instead of five. Oh, well. It's only vacation time. ::) That was my morning and afternoon. :)
-
Back from a very good show, with a swell audience of very receptive folks. In the notes I shall at long last let the cat out of the bag.
Good bk, the cats meowing has really been getting loud!!
-
The a cappella contest was very good. They had eight group contestants and the winner of this gets to go to Califonia for the nationals. Whoever wins that, gets a whole bunch of stuff, including a recording deal of some sort. Most of the groups were very good. A couple of groups were okay, but nobody was horrible (one year, a local group made up of friends of mine were not very good at all :P Of course, I couldn't tell them that). ::)
Anyway, a good time was had by all. My favorite group, who ended up winning third place, was a lesbian group from Seattle called DISH (http://www.dishseattle.org/). I thought that they were very good...and not just because they're lesbians. ;) I bought their CD. They have such songs as M-U-L-L-E-T (sung to the tune of M-O-T-H-E-R), Dykie Girl (sung to Duke of Earl) and Princess Xena (Mr. Sandman). Highly recommended to the open minded. ;D

It keeps you on your toe!!

When I got home, I got a package from eBay...it's ANOTHER original release stereo LP of Golden Boy (yes, I did buy it again ::)). It's a lot better than the first copy that I got (that was bent), but it has a little crackling noise throughout. Otherwise, it sounds good. I can easily make a CD from this! AND it also came with a program from the show! It didn't have the sticker on the shrinkwrap that said that the album had a program inside! My lucky day! ;D

Oisin is an album by Miheal O' Suilleabhan and Sanctuary is a new age album with celtic motifs by the group of the same name
