Well, you've read the notes, the notes kidded you not, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they were ON THEIR WAY until they saw the paltry number of postings yesterday. Hopefully, we can get the back on their way today with a plethora of postings.
-
And the word of the day is: LATITUDINARIAN!
Smoke on your pipe and put that in.
-
George - no, I never saw the film of The Spitfire Grill, just the musical version.
-
Raging headache from watching movies... May try and take a catnap and watch one more....
Then I can do some more writing...
TOTD:
Worst play I have seen was a rendition of Romeo and Juliet. That wa painful to watch as many of the key scenes such as the balcony scene and the sword fight were literally butchered. I still cringe when I picture it.
The worst musical was a local rendition of Little Shop of Horrors... YIKES.... it was bad!! Off key, the female lead could not remember the lyrics and all sorts of interesting things came out of her mouth. One guy passed out on the stage drunk and you hear him belching....
The worst movie that is a loaded gun and it boils down to my mood, the day and genre....
All time worst would have to be Caveman with Ringo Starr and Shelly Ladd.... Yes I am ashamed to say I was forced to watch and god it was bad. The sound track consisted of bad music, grunts and farts.
Invariable number of 'disease of the week' telemovies that appeared on the networks over the years. Some were good but there were a lot that were really bad ones either due to writing, production values or acting.
One that comes to mind is "Fbi: Manhunt in the Dakotas: The search for Gordon Kahl." The movie had Rod STeiger as Gordon Kahl. I chalk it up for continuity stupidity and failing to do your homework. My issues with this movie are the following
A) Where are ther mountains in Fargo, North Dakota.
B) Why do we sound like Georgians?
C) Why does Jamestown look like a colonial thowback to the early 1800s.. Jamestown was not founded until 1875. Where is its landmark buffalo for the shooting taht happened on the interstate.
D) Why are they wearing windbreakers in the middle of February? Why are they wearing plaid shirt jackets in February in NOrth Dakota of ALL places!!
E) Where is the snow????????
Other honorable mentions:
Grease 2
Xanadu - THe soundtrack was not bad...
Color of Money (not a huge Tom Cruise fan... I do like some of his stuff)
VAnilla Sky
Dalek Invasion of EArth, 2150AD..... The production values left a lot to be desired and the BBC version in the series was MUCH better. The movie version had Peter Cushing as the Doctor.
The funny part is that they actually borrowed some of the Dalek clips from the BBC.
Any movies with Pauly Shore, Britney Spears, and Adam Sandler in the cast...

I am sure that after reading today's note the question on everyone's mind is: Are you going to record the score for Kritzerland?
-
Good morning, all! It took me around 8 hours to get the fixes into the number and I pray to God it goes well today. I have to get to the office soon, finally accomplish some work on the Toyland project this weerk, run to dress rehearsal, get back here and clean up my act for the concert. Tomorrow, i've got a morning brunch with DRs Jose and Maria, an afternoon in Toyland, and an evening at the theatre. Monday I hope to recuperate lying prone next to the phone, which I'll need to check on my father's progress. I'm getting too old for all this.
TOD:
Worst musical: professionally, CARRIE
community, OKLAHOMA!
Worst play: some horrible murder mystery I've repressed now; couldn't even tell you the cast, 1999 or 2000.
Worst film: VAN HELSING, and a few more
-
The TOD:
Streatheat with Glen "Whatever Happened to kid actor" Scarpelli. The only musical I ever left during intermisison.
Two plays I could not get into was the British play Good. and Hurlyburly. All three acts which no matter how hard I tried I could not keep my eyes open. There were actors from the all star cast I never ever saw on stage.
-
Oh dear, well THE PILGRIM is what it is. As for the Creative Team getting first place in the program for their bios....remember in Palm Beach there is a theatre that include as its center page - a photograph of the opening night audience!
-
DR DAKOTA CELT - glad you liked Carroll's character in CHEYENNE AUTUMN...her 60's hair just about did me in, but she does do a nice job. And I have to agree about Malden.....Montalban and Mineo and Del Rio were okay....but all I could think of was....they're NOT Indians!
Being 1/16 Cherokee myself, well I don't know ENOUGH about the American Indian, but it's interesting when a major movie gets SO MUCH wrong....that even I know it.
-
DR MATTH - I couldn't post a pic yesterday either. Hmmmmmmmmm
-
Worst theatricals.....oh my.
There was a touring production of 42nd STREET which was awful....I still swear the taps were prerecorded.....everyone walked out onstage and you didn't hear a single metal tap....then suddenly when the dancing started, there was tapping all over the place! You can't walk quietly in tap shows....you can't.
-
Saw a local production of MY FAIR LADY at a competition once that was the WORST thing I ever saw.....
And a production of a play by Don DeLillo - THE DAY ROOM. I had read the script and it seemed very "Twilight Zone" - full of all kinds of mystery and quirks. The director (A director & instructor at Indiana University, no less) made a terrible mess of it. In fact the whole town was talking about how awful it was....and the actors said things like...."well at least everybody is coming to see it....and talking about us..." Yes, they were....
-
I will only say that the worst production I have ever been involved in was GYPSY....directed by my cousin-in-law and starring his wife, my cousin....who had a completely WRONG take on Madame Rose. She saw her as a heroine who was doing the right thing for her kids....and played her in a sweet, motherly way.... None of her songs had the bite or horror in them, and it made the story flat. Didn't help that our Herbie was beyond bland....
That's the name of my new musical BEYOND BLAND....
-
Off to work....
-
Well, DR FRANCOIS....I actually would have paid the price for the autographed CD....actually....
-
TOD: I have seen many bad shows. I am sure I will think of them as the day goes on. Right now I can say RENT, Movin Out, and a local production of Joseph...Dreamcoat.
I must get out of town. I need to be able to say I was out of town when I am asked why I did help to distribute flyers through the neighborhood. So, bye for now!
-
Good morning. Just stopping in to say hi. I'm waiting for my parents to arrive, which should be any moment. I got things straightened up a little. It's a lot better than it was yesterday. I have to preserve my energy to try to keep up with mom shopping. She may be 78 but she's a terror at the mall. She must be the original power shopper!
-
Good morning!
It's overcast here, typical April shower day with high lucky to get to 70. Looks like we'll be having spring (rather than summer; it was 81 here yesterday) for the next four or five days at least. FIne with me.
I wanted to mow the grass this morning, but it's sprinkled rain already and likely to rain more during the course of the day, so no chance to mow today. Maybe tomorrow if it doesn't rain to hard today.
-
Yes, I've seen THE SPITFIRE GRILL at the movies and I have the DVD. I like the film very much.
-
Worst movie? Well, I'd say probably a tie between INCHON and BATTLEFIELD: EARTH. They were both ineptly made, hideously boring to watch, and a complete waste of time.
I also thought CALIGULA was awful and, from an outfit who prized itself in being sexy and erotic, completely unsexy and unerotic.
-
The worst play I ever sat through was a local production of DEATHTRAP. It had one of the finest sets I've ever seen on a stage (even in New York), and on that set were two of the worst actors I've ever seen. When the wife had her heart attack, the audience was screaming with laughter, and at no time did people jump or gasp at the thriller aspects of the piece because of the disastrous direction. Just a wretched, awful production.
-
I did record CONVICTION last night and will watch it at some point today. I want to finish BROKEBACKL MOUNTAIN and move on to THE NUN'S STORY. Looking forward to that.
-
I'm up, I'm up - barely. She of the Evil Eye will be here momentarily, so I must dress myself.
-
I'm going to head down now to prep lunch, finish mopping the kitchen (didn't get to it yesterday since I was gone most of the day), and make some phone calls before settling in with some videos.
WBBL.

I know that many people consider this film to be an art house treasure but I loathe with every fiber of my being
The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover or whatever this stinking piece of shit is called.
I think it is the most prentious waste of celluoid I have ever seen. The people I was with loved it. I thought it stank worse than a decomposing body on a hot August day.
I'm on Long Island right now. I will think about the other worsts and try to post later. Obviously, I was able to fix the problems with the computer.
-
Shortly I shall be on my way to the editing room.

Hi JMK.
-
Well, I have a brief respite from one of the busiest springs I have had in many a year, so I thought I'd drop by and say "hi" and see how everyone is doing.
TOD: I was in an "experimental" piece in high school called The Falling Sickness, by one Russell Edson (I think we may have discussed it/him a long time ago)--a 3 character play in which all 3 actors at one point assumed one of the three characters--Father, Mother, and Son. I remember very little about it, other than that we ended each scene by beating each other senseless with rubber bowling pins (I kid you not ;) ), and that the actress playing Mother had a declarative sentence which she simply could not perform any other way than by making it sound like a question. I remember one rehearsal where we literally spent an hour going over her one line (over and over and over), with the director repeatedly saying it for her as a statement, then her repeating it--as a question. Oy. This walk through the Twilight Zone was only topped by the stunned reaction of the audience (at some community college north of Salt Lake--maybe Weber State, I can't recall now).
-
Hi, Jane. Updated my email for you yesterday. :)
-
Tell Keith I never heard back from Dale Orloff--the bastard person (a Waiting for Guffman reference).
-
Normally we don’t sit through an entire play we dislike. Since we had company visiting a few years back we had to sit through an experimental version of Macbeth. It was terrible.
The idea was the actors would dress minimally, play multiple roles (women playing men) & identify the different characters simply by adding a cape or hat to the costume, making it difficult to keep them straight. The lead actress played her two or three characters, male & female, exactly the same. The result was we often didn’t know which character she was. It is possible we might have retained who wore the cape or hat, etc. if we hadn’t been shivering so hard from the air conditioning.
-
JMK-how rude of Dale.
-
Hi, Jane!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...I LOVE THIS MOVIE!
:D
Lots of fun, a terrific score (that has been issued on CD in the past year!!!). First time I ever saw Shelley Long on film. Dennis Quaid also in it.
It was high silliness a la Monty Python....LOL.

My sister Rikki invited me to a belated dinner birthday partay for her most excellent son Jeremy - a real Macher! - whose 29th b'day happened on April Fool's Day. a restaurant of his choice - can't for the life of me remember the name, but I sure do WANT to! In Westwood, Italian. GREAT food, great ambience. We had a great time; we had wads of wonderful cuisine; my sis had apoplexy when she got the bill. Six courses - THEN dessert. OY! My nephew waves the menus away, and asks his friend, the chef-owner to do his thing. Okay - so it's an incredibly light and tasty fresh mushroom potage to start. Then a salad of some uniquely wonderful fresh Mozarella-like cheese over fresh tomato and sauteed peppers. Then we got the pasta dish, of fresh pasta mixed with asparagus and cheese and something suspiciously like ham - more trafe ya couldn't get, but mmmmmm..... Then we got the meatball risotto... then the fish course - a nice piece of sea bass done up with baby spring vegetable... Okay, so finally comes the entree... a soft and flavorful medium rare steak, sliced over something indescribably divine in a peppercorn sauce. We finally had to give up - one taste of the steak - the Star of the meal - and everyone had to put down the forks and just STOP. Well, no way this stuff was gonna be thrown away, I tell ya!!! hey, Cameriere! wrap it ALL up - I'm taking it with me!
Then comes this astonishing cake, made of egg pastry and filled with egg custard and whipped cream - a special birthday cake for the Maestro's special friend. Okay - so the forks were lifted again... (gag) and we choked down as much as we could.
All of this splendor was accompanied by the right wines, you understand: Dom Perignon champagne for the toast, before the soup. A wickedly expensive Chardonnay for the next two courses. A mild red for the meatball/pasta things... another white to go with the sea bass... and a very hearty red - sheesh, what was the name of THAT one?? - for the beef. Then a bottle of grappa for the cake, and apertifs.
I'm still gagging, and my other sister invited me to lunch! Maybe I'll watch her eat something small, while I gag quietly into a napkin...
-
Oh - here's the finale of the story...
We're outside, waiting for the car, Penny clutching the sack of steak... homeless guy comes along, asks us for money.
Rikki says quietly, I'm not giving him money to go buy drugs or booze.
Guy sees my brown paper bag, says I'm hungry. Got anything to eat there that i could have?
So I say, yup - here you go, it's some wonderful steak. Enjoy!
We all (gagging on WAY too much food) say, enjoy!
He says, God bless you! and walks away.
-
And a fine time was had by all. What was the NAME of that place???
-
Gonna hop in the shower and go join my sisters to look at granite for Rikki's kitchen, then watch 'em eat... bye.
-
Penny find out the name of the restaurant.
-
JMK while Keith’s aunt & uncle were visiting we took them on a walk through Lithia Park. Later I gave them a slide show of the park in autumn, and then just continued through my personal photos from my hikes. Included in the show were photos of BeeGee. Of course they think he is a real cutie.
-
DR DAKOTA CELT - glad you liked Carroll's character in CHEYENNE AUTUMN...her 60's hair just about did me in, but she does do a nice job. And I have to agree about Malden.....Montalban and Mineo and Del Rio were okay....but all I could think of was....they're NOT Indians!

JRand, it took me two nights to get through Cheyenne Autumn.
I agree with your comments JRand. I have a several freinds who are Metís or have American Indian background and they have also opened my eyes to many things. DF who I mentioned several days ago is part Northern Cheyenne and had a word is his language referring to that movie that is not repeatable. DF was much more positive towards House Made of Dawn and Powwow Highway.
It is never to late to learn....

I used to know a lady with energy like that. She sometimes put me to shame... Have fun shopping!

This week is Ashland’s Independent Film Festival. In honor of the festival the Bad Film Society will premier MAN WITH THE SCREAMING BRAIN, produced, directed, written by and starring Bruce Campbell. The paper calls him a local resident, IMDB says he lives in a neighboring town, whichever I’m a fan of his from THE ADVENTURES OF BRISCO COUNTY JR.

Hi DakotaCelt.
-
Worst movie? Well, I'd say probably a tie between INCHON and BATTLEFIELD: EARTH. They were both ineptly made, hideously boring to watch, and a complete waste of time.
"Battlefield: Earth" is one of the worse movies that I've ever seen. :P Every time I read about John Travolta playing Edna Turnblad, the only image that I get in my mind is him in "B:E"...not in any other movie that he's made (and he has made some very good movies) but that's the only thing that I can think of, so I really don't want to see him play Edna. Just my 2¢. :)
-
One of the worst local productions that I've seen was Little Shop of Horrors several years ago (not the one I saw last week). The Audrey couldn't stay on pitch and the voice of Audrey II was a local politician who thought he could sing (he couldn't) and the only thing that they did for the "Closed For Renovations" song was bring on one little vase with two or three plastic flowers...nothing else! There was NO "renovations" at all. Very bad.
-
The worst actor in an otherwise great production was when I was at Western Washington University and they put on Macbeth. It was wonderful...the sets, the costumes, the performers...except Macduff. He was totally channelling John Wayne! The way he spoke and the way he walked was pure John Wayne! I couldn't believe that the director really wanted that or would let the actor (who I was told, was NOT like that in real life) get away with it. He was totally in another play.
-
Well, I'm off to work. I want to make up a little time, so...be back later! ;D
-
George-LOL, at least your production of Macbeth was good for a laugh.
-
I’m doing it again, this time checking out a Bernese Mountain Dog rescue group. There is a 4 ½ year old girl on there that would be perfect for me, she LIKES to be brushed and groomed. She will probably find a family before we are ready to bring a dog home. First we need to finish the remodeling and take our trip to Alaska. It wouldn’t be right to get a dog now.
Yes, I know I said “no more pets” and I still feel that way. Keith said I’m not to mention he is “pinning” for a dog anymore-oh I just did it again.;D He would also love another Main Coon cat, so we shall see. If he didn’t want another pet & I did, I would expect him to get one or two more, heck I surprised him with the last three cats.

Maybe he was possessed. That is funny.
That is the same feeling i had about the version of Little Shop of Horrors I saw.

Poor Keith...
Bernese Mountain Dogs are beautiful animals. I used to have a Norwegian Forest cat that I got from a freind. They are on the same size as Maine Coon. Sadly I had to put him down when he was 5 years old due to renal failure. His name was Ace.
-
Dakota, Echo was ten when we lost her. We have videos of her taken before her eyes were open. She and I went to nursing homes for almost ten years.
-
There should have been a photo with that. I'll try a different one.
-
Dakota, I can't seem to be able to post a photo. This happens from time to time. Echo was a perfect Berenese Mountain dog except she was on the small side, only 60 pounds. If we get another one it will be much larger.
Norwegian Forest cats are also beautiful. Five is way too young-sorry. It was hard enough loosing Bogie (our Main Coon), to the complications from chronic renal failure, at fifteen.

Sorry for your loss... Echo sounds like a true gem and it was wonderful of her to be such a healer so to speak. Animals are truly amazing.

Yes, five is way to you. Ace had one bad habit - He as a huge bedhog and when he settled for the night, that was it.

Page 3 dance!
-
Jane, has Keith, when doing gen research ever request records from NY state and NYC? Did he ever have any luck?
-
Good day Bk!!
-
Back from the editing room. I must say, even though all I saw was the camera two stuff being transfered (camera two was the center wide shot), the image quality looked amazing, and we all looked pretty good (it's the last time anyone will EVER see me at the weight I was, let me tell you that - I've already lost five pounds and that will continue over the next two to three months), Tammy looked more than pretty good, and I think it's going to cut together easily and beautifully. So, that was good. I'm going to get a bite to eat now, and then maybe watch Liza With A Z. I'm not doing dinner this evening, so that's good.
-
Glad to hear the transfers are going well and it will edit well. Good luck with it.
Go bk go on the weight loss goal!!
-
Came across an interesting bit for my paper...
George Burdeau was the first native American director in the Directors Guild of America
-
Had some interesting and fun telephone calls and managed to get lunch prepared and eaten, topped off by some delicious caramels.
-
I started to watch last night's CONVICTION but it started off with a love scene featuring Eric Balfour (whom NBC is obviously pushing as a sex symbol; I think he's a fine actor but not in the least sexy), so I saved it and will go back to it later.
-
LOL Dakota, do I know about bedhogs, try five at once.
-
Instead, I put in THE NUN'S STORY and watched about 40 minutes of it, up to the point where Sister Luke is assigned to the sanitarium in Brussels.
I guess as I get older, I get more nostalgic about parents and children (both of my parents are gone now), but I started weeping in the opening scenes as she's saying goodbye to her family. Got choked up later as Gabrielle said goodbye to Sister Luke and left the convent.
Maybe some of the problems some friends are having currently are making me more emotional lately, but this movie already is doing a number on me, and we haven't even gotten to the really dramatic, sad, and climactic sections yet!
I think the transfer is acceptable. It's certainly better than the laserdisc which is all I've had to judge it on for many years.
-
A friend called and wants me to come over tonight to watch a movie that I would bring. I'm guessing CAPOTE, GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK, or BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN will be requested.
-
Jane, has Keith, when doing gen research ever request records from NY state and NYC? Did he ever have any luck?
Yes and yes. The more positive you are about the documents, the more success you have.
-
Matt H I hope everything works out for your friends.
-
Thank you, DR Jane. A 16 year relationship ending is very tough on them and their friends. I appreciate the kind words very much.
-
Well, I'm heading off now to finish THE NUN'S STORY and await the choice of movies from the friends who want to watch something tonight.
I'll probably put in the laserdisc of SUMMER HOLIDAY if I still haven't heard after THE NUN'S STORY concludes.
WBBL.
-
Matt H, that is hard.
-
Bruce we were forced to change our email address. Direcway is changing to Hughes so Keith figured it was time to try gmail (google). People we know who have made the switch are very happy.
-
Yes and yes. The more positive you are about the documents, the more success you have.
I am hoping in the next week or so to request some death certificates from NYC on Mary McDevitt and Sarah Hyde. They are the clues to my challenging line. Mary McDevitt would be a neice to my 3xggrandfather, Edward Gallagher, father.
Listening to Sweeney Todd while I am working on my paper... For some reason the images of native Americans and the demon barber of Fleet Street do not mix.... Don't get me wrong, I am enjoying Len Cariou and Angela Lansbury.
-
LOL Dakota, do I know about bedhogs, try five at once.
Cats, dogs or both?
-
((MattH))
Vibes to Matt's friends for better times ahead....
-
I've had gmail since it began - it's great. I'm trying to figure out how to get my AOL address book over there, and then it's bye bye AOL forever.
-
I have my prodigy mail through yahoo... I have not tried gmail yet.
-
I want to be very clear about the transfer of The Nun's Story, because all these things I read where people accept stuff like this because it's better than the laserdisc (not just MattH, but everyone else on the DVD boards) bothers me in a way. They are very hard on other transfers and forgiving with Warners transfers. a) the transfer itself is top-notch - sharp, detailed, and the sound is excellent. b) the color is off - completey off - brown, pasty, ugly and nothing like what Franz Planer's subtle beautiful photography should look like. As I keep saying, I've owned IB Tech prints of this film and they do not look like this DVD. If you want to know how far off, the proof is simple - in the same box set is The Shoes of the Fisherman - a competently shot film that in no way has the photographic artfulness of The Nun's Story. Look at the blue skies in Shoes, then look at the colorless skies of Nun's. Look at the fleshtones in Shoes, then look at the pasty fleshtones of Nun's.
-
I was rather upset with a transfer of a more recent movie. A good freind of mine was an extra in Miracle with Kurt Russell. The audio track does not match the video track. I was very disappointed. I thought at first it was my DVD player and I tried a different DVD and it worked fine. I checked the tracking and reset it and Miracle still played rather wonky.
I was very disappointed for it was a Disney associated picture and I expected more from them.
-
Back from a good rehearsal. The new chart for Karen Ziemba is a vast improvement and we're all happy with it. I've had a bit of dinner, and I have to head back for performance. I will try to stop back for a postconcert-party rundown. Ta!
DR JMK, welcome back! I hope you're returning to us for a while.
-
Cats, dogs or both?
Both, and I'm talking multiple big dogs with multiple cats. ;D
-
Worst professional productions:
"Chess"
"Blood Brothers"
Most ill advised professional productions:
"The Woman In White" (Even "The Beautiful Game" was better).
"High Society:
Worst non-professional - Productions of "Camelot" and "Showboat"
Films: I'd agree with DR Ben about the "The Cook, The Thief etc"
We watched "Crash" last night. That's right up there with other great wastes of time! Spike Lee meets McDonalds. Was it written so that 12 year olds could "get it"? "Do the Right Thing" is way out there in front of "Crash".
-
Has any other DR suffered through "Franc D'Ambrosio's Broadway".
-
Both, and I'm talking multiple big dogs with multiple cats. ;D
Bet bedtime was fun... :D Hopefully the cats and dogs got along well...
-
I'm not sure about fun. ;D The dogs and cats always got along together, Sometimes the cats and cats or the dogs and dogs didn't.
-
nothing nicer though than having a furry freind greet you in the morning also...
-
Sometimes it is difficult to get up with a cat snuggled into you purring away.
-
I'm falling asleep. I think I had better move around before that happens.
-
Might I just ask where in tarnation IS everyone? This is distressing. Someone post something, damn it all. I'm thinking about making a spontaneous trip to see Barnum at a nearby theater - not sure, though.
-
I like Barnum.... Have fun!
-
contemplating trying for a play that will run locally next fall in the B Theatre....
They play new works, etc... A professor freind is encouraging me to do it...
-
Michael Barnum is in a local production of "Bombay Dreams"?

There is an artist from the Spirit Lake reservation here in ND that is also painting a buffalo and he was working onit in the mall one day. Talented artist.

Monte Yellow Bird is the artist I was talking about above. He is one of two native american artists involved in teh project.

Work in progress. The buffalo is a sacred animal to the Indians of the plains. I am glad they are being represented in this project.

Laura Youngbird's contribution is called Not Whole . It is covered with images of the Dakota people. Laura is a Wahpeton/Sisseton Dakota.

The above bison are over 6ft tall... However there are some smaller ones and some are pretty darn cute...

The artist has not posted any pictures yet but it was featured on the news and hers is called Aurora buffalo. It has an Arikara legendabout the Northern lights on one side and a Finnish legend about her northern lights on the other side. It was quite pretty.

I had a great day with my parents followed by an extremely traumatic evening. About 4:00pm or so I was upstairs with the cats and Nilla just started hissing and attacking me. I thought maybe I had another cat's scent on me, so I went in my bedroom and changed my clothes. He followed me in and started hissing and coming at me with paws swinging. Then he calmed down a little and then went right back at me.
I thought maybe he was in pain, because he is having tooth trouble. I called the vet who sort of acted like he wasn't sure I should take him in. Nilla couldn't seem to calm down, so I isolated him in a part of the house away from Callie and I left him alone to calm down. He calmed down, then he would rub against my legs like he was making up and then he'd attack me again (I should say this is a cat with only a couple good teeth and I keep his claws clipped, so even though he came at me over and over and over, I have one little scratch.
Anyway, during the third call to the vet, he attacked while I was on the phone and the people within earshot of the vet heard it. He then agreed that I needed to take him in on an emergency basis and said as soon as I could get him in something to take him in, to call and he'd meet me there. By this time I was in tears and was a total basket case. I mean who do you call to help you cage a very angry cat? Well I called my cat sitter and bless her soul she and a friend came over and we got him in his carrier.
So about 9:00pm I got him to the vet. He was much calmer there but is still very mad at me. I hope he gets over being that mad. I'm a little concerned about that. The vet gave him a pain killer but said other than his teeth - which he did show pain when they were touched - he couldn't really see anything wrong, other than he is very mad at me at the moment. So he's in the hospital, probably until Monday at least, when they can hopefully pull the bad teeth and figure out if there's anything else wrong.
It's been a terribly upsetting night and I missed Verdi's Requiem with the symphony and 7 college choirs in a mass choir. I was looking forward to it, but I had to take care of Nilla. I really hope he isn't mad at me forever.

((Cilla))
I send good vibes your way and hope things work out.

Callie is sound asleep. I think she is relieved the whole ordeal is over

Thanks Dakota. I'd eat ice cream if I had some. But I do have candy coated malted milk ball eggs. I'm going to eat them

Cill, I've just found this page that might help you somewhat I hope!
I believe your cat is in pain and takes it on you... but it's hard to say of course... just like that!
You might see a difference when his teeth are fixed....
Good luck!

Va Nilla ice cream!! :D (I know! I know! That joke is a cat-astrophe! ;))
-
Thanks Francios. During one of the times I was letting him calm down, I got on the net and researched aggression and pain and I reached the same conclusion. I'm hoping it's just his teeth. It's something known and hopefully having them pulled will take care of it. He's always been my gentle soul. To see him so angry and aggressive was really a shock. I'm hoping he won't remember the hours spent trying to get him in a carrier.

We had prairie dogs here one year and "discovery dogs" the next. They called them discovery dogs because they were afraid of what people would say about Seaman (the dog on the Lewis and Clark expedition) on the sidewalk
-
Thanks for your kind words of encouragement for my friends, DR DakotaCelt. Much appreciated.

Interesting!! One of the artists on the previous page, Monte Yellow Bird did two horses called "Paint Horses" that were sold as a fund raiser for tribal colleges in the state.
BTw, are you being affected by teh flooding down in Iowa?
-
Well, about THE NUN'S STORY, I never saw it in the theater, so TV showings and the laserdisc are all I have to use as a guideline, and it's always looked devoid of strong color in the copies I've seen. I've had nothing else on which to base any comparisons. With that in mind, the DVD is superior to anything I've seen up to this point. I wish it could be otherwise (a LI'L ABNER film reference), but that's all I have.
-
Thanks for your kind words of encouragement for my friends, DR DakotaCelt. Much appreciated.
You're welcome. I hope everything works out for them and things will settle peacefully.

No, how about you and the Red River?
-
One more word about THE NUN'S STORY, have you watched the entire DVD, bk? I see the point you're making very clearly, but I think the last half of the DVD looks better than the earlier scenes for what it's worth.
-
Cilla we are suppose to have temps in the 70s by the end of the upcoming week.
-
No, how about you and the Red River?
No real problems here in Fargo but north Grand Forks they are getting whacked big time. Matter of fact Oslo, MN is basically an island. A lot of overland flooding by my parents near Thompson and Reynolds, ND. They are small towns just southwest of Grand Forks.
-
We're looking at 79 by Thurs. We had 86 one day last week
-
Gorgeous here today and even had the windows open for a bit. Needed some fresh air.
-
After leaving the convent with Audrey, I put in the laserdisc of SUMMER HOLIDAY. I hadn't watched this laserdisc in years, and it was nice to see it again. I'm looking forward to hearing the soundtrack CD which I got this week featuring many of the outtakes and deleted songs that didn't make it into the picture. I had that private issue LP of the SUMMER HOLIDAY soundtrack years ago, but as I hadn't seen the film at the time I bought that LP, the songs didn't make much of an impression on me.
The quality of the print used on the laserdisc is quite variable. Most of it is deep, rich Technicolor, but there are sequences that are very pale in color, and there's some print damage here, too.
I am not holding my breath for Warners to ever release this film on DVD, so the laser will have to be it, I suppose. I did enjoy "The Stanley Steamer Song" and "Independence Day" in the score very much.

Hunting in the nude??? :o ;)
-
I finished the evening with last night's CONVICTION. Once again, I got involved in the FOUR cases that were ongoing during the show, but the personal life stuff really leaves me cold.
-
MattH, I have a question for you....
Have you ever heard of the musical Johnny, Come back to the Five and Dime?
-
Hunting in the nude??? :o ;)
LOL Francois!!
Francois, I have a small confession.... I hope you do not kill me
As a few of you know, I am a big fan of Matt Ashford. Well I have a few old clips of him when he was on Days back in the early 1990s. There is a scene between Jack (Matt's character) and a character named Frankie Brady and Jack was calling him Francoise... Francoise was a pet name Jack had for Frankie for FRankie also had desires on Jennifer.
More than once I nearly posted your name as Francoise... But I have always caught myself...
-

I've heard of the play and film COME BACK TO THE FIVE AND DIME, JIMMY DEAN, JIMMY DEAN. Is this what you mean. Despite having Cher in the cast, it wasn't a musical.
I found it a very interesting film, rather fascinating how it was done. Of course, the big surprise concerning the Karen Black character was pretty obvious from about 20 minutes into her introduction.
-
Well, I'm going to head off to slumberland now.
Have a good rest of the evening, everyone!
Good night!

Don't tell me!
When Burgess Meredith gave me his autograph he wrote my name with an E at the end in spite of my spelling it to him!
Besides, in English, people tend to pronounce the S which makes it sound feminine...
Oy! :D

Hello, George! back from the theater?
-
I started to watch last night's CONVICTION but it started off with a love scene featuring Eric Balfour (whom NBC is obviously pushing as a sex symbol; I think he's a fine actor but not in the least sexy), so I saved it and will go back to it later.
Speak for yourself. ;)
Actually, I don't care for the character that he plays at all, I just think that the actor very attractive. :)
-
I"m exhausted and feeling very sad about everything that happened tonight. I have a lot to do tomorrow to get ready for my jury trial, so I think I'll just go to sleep. Night.
-
Hello, George! back from the theater?
Actually, back from work. Well, I have been for some time. I watched some taped shows, although I have a few more to watch. My sister just called me and said that our mom came to visit her (while I was at work) and brought some cake! Cake? I'm there. :) So, I'm off, again. But probably not for too long.

CillaLiz, I'm so sorry to hear about your trouble with Nilla. I hope you are able to find out what's wrong. One of my cats bit me one night when I interrupted a cat fight. Mine was in the house and the interloper was outside and they were fighting through the window. The vet called it misplaced aggression. I would suggest that you get Nilla a rabies shot, just in case he bites you -- then he won't have to be quarantined.
-
We have all supported each other through our pet problems, haven't we?
-
I intend to watch The Nun's Story soon, so I'll be interested to see the last half of the film and how it looks.
Didn't go to Barnum - stayed in and watched Liza With A Z, and may now watch Narnia or something else.
-

Thanks. The wierd thing with this was he was fine then just started hissing and coming at me. He even followed me into the bedroom and kept coming at me. There was no cat fight and as far as I can tell nothing happened, he just struck out at me. He was menacing, but it wasn't like he really wanted to hurt me. He never tried to bite me and only a couple times tried to scratch me. He was swinging, but it wasn't like he really wanted to connect.
I think he's in pain and I think it's his teeth, but I also think I didn't react well. He scared me and I backed away so he kept coming. Then when he was already mad at me I tried to calm him down and it didn't work. He came up to me 3 different times like he wanted to make up and rubbed against my legs and once let me pet him, then he started hissing and coming at me again. Something isn't right. I'm sure by the end of the ordeal I was scaring him and he was scaring me and he was mad and I was upset...not helpful, in the least. But I've never seen anything like it. I have to believe he was in pain. I can't really think of any other explanation.
Now I really must get some sleep. I have a lot to do tomorrow. Nilla will be at the Vet Hospital at least until Monday. They are hoping to remove his bad teeth then and see if that helps him any. I'm hoping I can call during a break in the trial, and hoping that he will be home soon. But I want them to find out what's wrong.
-
We have all supported each other through our pet problems, haven't we?
Yes, and thanks everyone for that. I don't know what I'll do if this aggression thing can't be resolved.
-

I can assure you, your cat won't remember a thing.... and, actually, HE started it! :D
Meow! :)
Bonne nuit!
-
Cill, you see, if you had a Disney cat, he would talk to you and tell you exactly what's the matter! "Attacking" you is his way of telling you "help me!"
-
Back again. Cake was a cake-mix cake with simple glaze...but still good.
The shows that I watched were "The New Adventures of Old Christine," "Two and a Half Men" and "Ghost Whisperer." I still have to watch "Conviction" and "Las Vegas."
I taped but haven't watched last week's "Desperate Housewives." My mom borrowed my tape and hasn't gotten it back to me, yet. If I'm not able to get it tomorrow, I'll have to tape tomorrow night's show and watch it after I get last week's episode. I don't feel that that's the kind of show that can (should) be watched out of sequence.
-
Michael Barnum is in a local production of "Bombay Dreams"?
Ummm; I thought it was YOU in the part of Tom Thumb! ;)
I'm such a sucker! ;) (NOT born 'vry minit' though!)

Except for that moronic little bit of fuzz on the end that chin. Shave it.
CONVICTION is becoming a real bore in my book; I'm still not convinced.
Yes, I'm back from a great concert and mediocre too-cramped party space, but filled with lovely ladies and gentlemen. The film clips were wonderful and the man behind the computer animation is a genius. The chart for Miss Karen Z sounded terrific tonight, the hostesses Joan Rivers and Anita Gillette were wonderful, and it was quite exciting. too bad Avery Fisher wasn't as full as it should have been.
-
I like the prequel better:

And my friend, Andy, came up from DC earlier this afternoon - saw the show tonight, then I took him down to the Village and we picked up a couple of cupcakes from Magnolia...
:)
And since we'll be meeting DR elmore for brunch tomorrow with DR Maria in the morning...

I've been trying to get into the Carole Lombard movie Hands Across The Table - every piece I've read on this movie calls it a perfect comedy. I guess I'm missing the jokes.
