Good morning, DR Tomovoz! And good morning, all! When I signed off last night, there were only 6 pages of notes, no I've just made my way through the remaining 7 pages.
Dr JRand55, yes, indeedy! MARATHON 33 was written by Miss June Havoc was based on her biography EARLY HAVOC and I believe the Broadway production starred Julie Harris. I was unfortunate to see a production in the 1970s, and I don't think it's a very good play. On the other hand, EARLY HAVOC is a wonderful book.
I've been reading this wonderful book about the Lincoln assassination, which is the only reason I knew that last Friday was the 159th anniversary of the assassnation. DRs interested in the motives behind the conspiracy to kidnap/kill Lincoln will enjoy this book. It's worh reading alone for the gripping chapter on the assassination attempt on Secretary of State Seward.
I've never heard the theory beforde that our DR Jose was to blame for CALIGULA but it's the only possible option! There was a wonderful bok written about the film, ULTIMATE PORN, by an assistant director, and the entire film sounds like the title of the book. Yes, I blame DR Jose!

I'm going back to bed for a bit - but before I do, I've been meaning for the last few days to recommend a lovely film I saw a few days ago. THE CHILDREN ARE WATCHING US (Criterion). An early De Sica film. Made in 1942, but not released until '44.
I love movies made from a child's POV - and this one absolutely is. It stars a five-year-old Luciano de Ambrosis, a non-professional who is heartbreaking. Make sure to watch the interview on the DVD with the now 70-year-old Ambrosis to hear his recollections of making the film.

The parrots remind me of another recommendation - THE WILD PARROTS OF TELEGRAPH HILL, a truly wonderful documentary. I saw the docu and was raving about it to everyone I met. About a week later, I attended the Genesis Awards (BTW - I got a postcard yesterday saying the the awards will be broadcast on Animal Planet on Sat. May 6, 2 pm PT/5 pm ET - the animal lovers among you would enjoy it) - to get back to my point - and discovered that I was sharing a table with Mark Bittner, the subject of the film and Judy Irving, the director! It was terrific to be able to tell them how much I'd enjoyed the film. Here's a photo of us from that evening...

It was overcast when I went out to get the paper this morning, but the clouds have cleared away and again we have a cloudless blue sky, and it's already heating up. We're in for another scorcher today - near 90.

Carol Burnett guest stars tonight on DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES as Bree's stepmother. That should be fun.

I've got RENT cued up to watch this afternoon, and I'm waffling about what else this afternoon. I went through a lengthy period last week of black and white movies which I loved, but I wanted to see some color and widescreen this weekend. RENT will certainly fit the bill, and I just haven't chosen what's to be next after it.
Next week, I'll get back to Mae West's GOIN' TO TOWN and Alice Faye's FALLEN ANGEL.

Easter morning greetings!
Do you know how to get me wide awake in the middle of the night? Have the phone ring at 12:30am and hear DH Richard say, "What do you mean DEAD?" to the person on the other end. That person was our DS Rob, who was on his way home from Cincinnati and his car was dead on the side of I-75 just south of here. We dispatched a tow truck and Richard went to pick up Rob. I think I went back to sleep about 3.
Anyway, it was delightful this morning to find photos of DR MBarnum's Bosco, DR Tomovoz's bears and birds, and DR Maria's dog and dinner companions.
Now I have to pull together an Easter celebration for our family.

BK - How nice that you mentioned crashdilly's birthday. I spent crashdilly's birthday with her last year (when a little group of us went to see Barbara Cook at the Carlyle) but haven't seen her since she did an absolutely lovely job performing in a Gilbert & Sullivan revue a couple of months back. I emailed her birthday wishes this morning and I'm sure she'll be happy to know she's still sent birthday wishes on this here site.

DR Dakota, thanks for the concern. We didn't have much in Sioux City as far as bad weather. The winds were in the 50-60 mph range most of the day, we had some rain and some thunder and lightning, but none of the tornados were close by.
It's still rainy and dreary out. I'm glad I decided not to make the 4 hour round trip drive to eat dinner with my family. My parents were here last weekend, my niece was here the weekend before and my brother and his wife will be here tomorrow for the James Taylor concert. So, it's nice to have a day of rest

I am so happy, I found a place to keep all my lps in the new house. They have been sitting around in boxes while I tried to decide where to put them when voila! I discovered a bookcase with the perfect dimensions in the perfect place - (I had measured it earlier and thought it was too small) I am very pleased...now to get to the other umpteen boxes I need to deal with

She is now back home in her pen....and will stay there unless someone is IN the yard with her.
I must say that between Blue and me in the Cruiser....we stopped traffic for two blocks in each direction -

I know it sounds like work, but it's really getting rid of clutter and that makes me feel very good~

I selected DEATH ON THE NILE for my other color widescreen (though not Panavision) movie this afternoon. Such a thoughly enjoyable film and a terrific mystery from Mrs. Christie (screenplay by Anthony Shaffer who cut a couple of the least likely suspects from the novel).
How great to see such stars adorning this movie, almost as delicious an array as in MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS.

I bought some shelves at Ikea several years ago kind of like the ones below, except it's three by three instead of four by four. Each open section is about 15 inches square, so there is enough room for all of my records.

I will give him STRANGERS WHEN WE MEET and CHAMPION...and maybe...just maybe...SPARTACUS and THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL...not talking about the movies, you understand....just Mr ChinChin.

Laundry is done, the boxes I plan to empty today are empty. I am posting from the formerly dead computer (it is Easter you know... - hope I don't get struck down for that one). Think I'm going to run out to Barnes and Noble. Haven't been there in ages.
I'm so happy I still have one more day off!!! I really think that everyone should get one 4 day weekend per month. We'd all be much happier.

Had a nice lunch with dear reader Hisaka, although our waiter (at the Hamburger Hamlet) was a complete idiot and I was ready to kill him by the end of the meal. I then came home, but had to go have a drink with Jim Brewer (the guy who did the Sondheim concert in SF) who had to regale me with stories of the most petty, infantile and ridiculous behavior by a certain record label's A&R person (and probably the label's owners, but who knows). So, I'm getting to my work stuff very late. I just went through the act one tape of Deceit and made all my notes, and I've written two pages of the play, and now I'll watch The Sopranos from last week, and then probably finish the DVD I'm watching, then go back to act two of Deceit, and then try to write one more page of play.

Since I’m still nursing a cold I had soup for dinner. I don’t feel bad, it’s just settling into my lungs and once that happens it’s terribly difficult to get it out of there.
I’m still sleeping practically in a sitting position & tonight I’ll run the humidifier again. My cough is very tight.
I did manage to have a decent walk this morning while the weather was decent, just a few snow flurries.

Today we saw The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. If you have been reading the reviews for this film, we pretty much agreed with them-excellent film.
Speaking of agreeing with reviews, last night we watch a Japanese film which is still haunting me, NOBODY KNOWS. It is a completely fictional account, inspired by the story of four children who were abandoned by their mother and had to fend for themselves. The young actor who plays the oldest brother won Best Actor at the Cannes festival in 2004.

Pretty uneventful day. Read through the ... in the absence of Spring... script again. Wow - it's a really good play. I find more and more to admire in it each time. I'm so glad I get to do it!!
Wrote some, exercised some, ate some... read a bit of Ram Dass. Sat in the sun - oh, la! Whatta blue, blue sky! Made a big salad with everything in it for dinner. now just listening to some New Age Music on Music Choice and writing to y'all.
Sleepy - boy, sitting in the sun seems to do it. I'll make it an early night.
Maria - i enjoyed the photos of your day! Especially the flowers. Always the flowers. Or trees. Or horses. Today, it was the flowers.

It has been a long day for Bosco and I! We drove to Aumsville this morning and had Easter breakfast at my neice and her husband's house (sister and Brother in law joined us...not that we were coming apart, mind you!). Bosco got to meet his little cousin Piper who proceeded to harrass him at every opportunity!
Then Bosco and I drove up to West Linn and had Easter lunch at Mark and James's house. Our friend Terry and his three kids came down from Vancouver and we all had a great time. Bosco met his other cousin Digger. We all went to the park in Lake Oswego after lunch and walked the dogs around the river.
Bosco is now crashed out on the bedroom floor and I am going to crash on the couch and watch some TV!

I finshed RENT early this evening and then replayed the three or four songs that I particularly like. I'm not sure I'll actually watch the movie all the way through many more times since there's a lot of music I just don't care for, but thankfully, one can skip right to the songs he enjoys, and that's what I'll probably do in the future.

Then, I put in the first HARRY POTTER film which I haven't watched in awhile. Apart from seeing all the series regulars when they were much younger, I picked up some information this time through that I hadn't known (or remembered) before. For example, that there's a phoenix feather in Harry's wand just like there is in Valdemort's wand, one of the things that links them.
Only got about an hour in, so I'll enjoy finishing it tomorrow.

COLD CASE had a death row case that brought back memories of the poignant IN JUSTICE episode from a couple of months ago that touched me so deeply. This one not only missed that mark, but the real murderer was obvious from the get-go, so a disappointing episode all around.

I really enjoyed DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES tonight. I liked all the stories, found them interesting, funny, or engrossing (apply proper adjective where appropriate).

I have never watched CROSSING JORDAN, but the previews for tonight looked interesting. I think I will stick to FIREFLY instead.

The parrots remind me of another recommendation - THE WILD PARROTS OF TELEGRAPH HILL, a truly wonderful documentary. I saw the docu and was raving about it to everyone I met. About a week later, I attended the Genesis Awards (BTW - I got a postcard yesterday saying the the awards will be broadcast on Animal Planet on Sat. May 6, 2 pm PT/5 pm ET - the animal lovers among you would enjoy it) - to get back to my point - and discovered that I was sharing a table with Mark Bittner, the subject of the film and Judy Irving, the director! It was terrific to be able to tell them how much I'd enjoyed the film. Here's a photo of us from that evening...

I used to play jazz flute. On the c-flute and the alto. I loved it. I've never seen this before, I'd love to hear the combo

Well, I must go to sleep. I have tomorrow off, but it's going to start early with breakfast with Paul and then my brother and sister in law are coming here at 10:00AM for a concert that starts at 8:00pm..... I don't think they want me to entertain them all day...I hope not anyway, I still have a lot to do and Callie has a vet appointment at 2:20Pm.
