I just have to get through a half day of work tomorrow and a Thanksgiving Eve church service tomorrow night (assuming I can get there after the snowstorm), and then FOUR FREE DAYS OFF.

Enjoy every moment, even the shift tomorrow.

The Burmese Harp is a great big Japanese post-war musical. Who knew?

Really beautiful review!

Thank you. It’s Larry’s book that deserves the praise.

Watching The Burmese Harp. There’s a really powerful scene after a battle. The camera surveys the dead while the German folk song that became Stricken, Smitten and Afflicted plays. Really powerful.

Facing the Music: a Broadway Memoir by David Loud

Recording Broadway: A Life in Cast Albums by Thomas Z. Shepard

Mr, Shepard is a bit obnoxiously full of himself, but I enjoyed reading about all the recordings.

I liked David Loud's book, but I enjoy anything that draws back the curtain on the business of Broadway music.

Watching an odd Clarence Brown movie called Of Human Hearts. Walter Huston is an unforgiving preacher whose son grows up to be James Stewart.

Speaking of Anyone  Can Whsitle -

Does anyone here have any knowledge on this?

This is the whistling-for-a-cab moment from "Breakfast at Tiffany's."
https://youtu.be/VQpkCVeQVas

The way Audrey Hepburn says "It's easy" right after whistling loudly for the cab -
could that be where the lyric "Anyone can whistle, that's what they say - Easy" by Sondheim comes from.

I cannot whistle :(

Neither can I, DR Jane!

You have my sympathy.
