Rehearsal is over, then I accompanied the Druxman's to Jerry's Deli (I didn't eat), and then I had to deal with a little e-mail I received from the MD of the Bacharach show - he may no longer be the MD. I sometimes forget how uppity he gets, and he HATED my idea for a song and said "maybe I'm not the guy for this if you're going to make fun of the songs." Now, this was one number, not all the songs, nor would we be making fun of the number. I told him that I thought that he was the right guy for the job, but the one thing he wasn't going to be EVER was the director, and that the buck stops with me, not him. I told him to back out if he couldn't deal with collaboration, and I also reminded him that the three Liz Callaway albums were TOTAL collaborations (I think they really imagine they did it all themselves) - I had total input and control over all three CDs and she and the CDs and he were all better for it. I said that no idea could be shot down so coldly without a discussion first. Do we have to do the number? No, if there's a good reason not to. Do we have to talk about it? Absolutely. I don't think he'd like it if he came to me with some idea he thought was clever only to have me say "Gee, I don't know if I want you involved it THAT'S the kind of thing you're coming up with." Feh.
