I did hope that Johnny Galecki would win for THE BIG BANG THEORY.

Off to a wine dinner in a minute. A limo will be picking me up, so I can actually enjoy the drinking this time. I don't think I've ever been in a limo before.

Have a wonderful time at the wine dinner, DR John G!
It was quite spectacular. Aged wines from various cellars paired to the culinary creations of one of five chefs. My chef has a Mexican background and his food is largely Latin in nature, so that was what he prepared.

We started with a salmon ceviche in a chilled cucumber soup, followed by a several street tacos atop tortillas filled with mashed black beans (yum). A deconstructed chile en nogada had the right amount of sweet in the walnut/dried fruit sauce with plenty of savory from tart pomegranate seeds, walnut sauce and cilantro (forming the red-white-green of the Mexican flag in honor of Diez y seis de Septiembre).

The surf and turf main course was the most tender part of a strip roast and shrimp with their heads on with various vegetables in a roasted pepper. Dessert was a type of tres leches with fresh figs drizzled in honey. I ate the figs and a taste of the cake before passing it off to be consumed by someone else.

Wines were largely Rieslings with a sensational, too-young Califonrian Chardonnay (2002 Stony Hill; my 1995 Stony Hills are still about 10 years too young), a medium-aged Burgundy and a couple of Champagnes.

And the limo ride was, well, OK, because I didn't have to drive. Even though we also picked up my business partner, the limo itself was soooooo long that the driver had to take a much longer route than I would have taken in my Mazda 3. So, I read and listened to the rain come down.

Citizen Kane was on TCM tonight. I never noticed this before but.....

The whole plot revolves discovering what was the meaning of "Rosebud". But when Kane utters the word he is all alone. So how did they know what he said?

well fortunately someone filmed his whole life so we just had to look at the footage!

today was a bit of an emotionally exhausting day for me -  it was my turn to serve as assisting minister and part of that duty is reading a long prayer part of which will mention those in need of special prayers for illness, bereavement etc... when I mentioned Marion's name  i started to lose my composure  fortunately hers was the last in the list and there is a planned pause there for others  in the congregation to speak out other names... the pause was longer than usual but I managed to pull it together to finish the prayer

the prayer is followed by the passing of the peace and the Vixter left her pew to come up and hug me ---   I am so blessed  in my daughter!!

After church was Marion's wake   she was an amazing woman - in her 70's she was out there with Jimmy Carter building houses -- in her late 60's she took second place in her age group in  5  mile race,  2 years later  she took 1st place.

Last year she decided the church bathrooms needed to be redone - but there was no money in the budget to do it -  so Marion  went to Home Depot bought new sinks, tiles and paint and did it all herself - she was 80 at the time

She had some terrible tragedies in her life but she never complained, never wavered in her faith and was always there smiling -  she succumbed finally to cancer diagnosed only 6 months ago...

thank you  all for your condolences ... I know 81 seems a ripe old age   but Marion  had not yet hit old age --- she ran rings around the rest of us .....

bk - As for the disappearing Facebook page for Kritzerland - Did you "upgrade" the old page to new format? If you didn't, well... That's where it went.

Btw, can you customize the URL for the new Kritzerland page to "http://facebook.com/kritzerland" ?

How do you customize - I'd need exact instructions.  I was never told to upgrade any pages to new format - I didn't create the old page it was just there and had lots of "likes".

New guy.   :)

I've been pre-approved by his son and daughter.   ;D

And the household cat.   She likes to sit on my lap.  I fell asleep in the recliner while watching a move, once the blanket and cat and I were warm and toasty, I just feel asleep.   Embarrassing but really comfortable and easy.

Otherwise, my life is too dull to mention.

Which is good, I need less drama.

And more focus on the daily maintenance of things.
