Listening to some music, will shower in a moment, and see if I can get a couple more pages done.  I can never believe that I get annoyed with myself when I've written ten pages - that's a LOT of pages.

Here is the modest collection of books I picked up at ALA Midwinter in Boston - mostly free ARCs (advance reader copies), but the Orlando travel guide I bought for $1.00 to get ready for the annual conference in June:

Let me know how the Anne Tyler is. I love the title, "Vinegar Girl."

I am also curious.   I hope you enjoy all the books you picked up at the ALA.

And I have to work tomorrow just to get into a reasonable place

Sorry.  I hope your boss is also working.

I think the sole purpose of this remake of the Merry Widow was simply to show Lana Turner in both black and white merry widows. On that term, it succeeded admirably. There have been lousier excuses for movies.

Took a shower and cleared my mind and figured out how to begin what will now be the final chapter.  I was flailing all evening, and when I flail it's just really hard to write anything at all.  It's like pulling teeth.  Once I found the much better way to begin it, everything fell right into place and I wrote two pages instantly and then I was able to cut and paste what I'd written earlier so that it worked and all in all I did write fourteen pages.  Whew!

I was up at six a.m., but I was pretty useless all day.

I read the first couple pages and then pulled a Vixmom.  I fell asleep for two hours with my laptop and my computer table balanced on my lap.  How I managed to do that without spilling everything on the floor is anyone's guess.

I then decided to read all of today's e-mails that I hadn't bothered to read today.  I now wish that I hadn't read them.  I received an e-mail informing me that one of my oldest and dearest friends, Patsy, died Tuesday afternoon.

I am devastated by the news, but not totally surprised.  The other day, perhaps it was Tuesday, I got the feeling or premonition that she was gone, but told myself that I was wrong because I hadn't heard anything more from her son.

He wrote this afternoon to say she was gone, apologized for the delay, and informed me that there would be no service for her (her request).

Tom, I'm so sorry.  My condolences on the loss of your friend.

Topic of the Day, Part 2:  I'm watching the NYC Opera 1990 production of "A Little Night Music," with Sally Ann Howes as Desiree.
