Stopping by very briefly to say a Huge THANK YOU to you all for your loving words and support here.  I clearly have been completely out of it, as I see I never signed out on Friday.  ???

I fly home tomorrow for my mother's funeral, and to spend time with family. I will most likely not be on for much of the week. But again, my heartfelt thanks for your kindness as such a tenuous time.

I am off to bed. I've taken Tylenol, Chlortrimeton, and i hope they help me sleep. I will read a bit more of Alison Weir's history The Princes In the Tower for another 15 minutes or so and turn off the lights.

Feel better Elmore.  I had a horrible time Friday night. I was up every hour coughing and blowing my nose, it was down to three times last night.  I'm hoping to sleep through the night tonight...

I'll disagree with you, DR Dan, on Kevin Smith and "Chasing Amy." Loved that movie, but I haven't seen it since it came out. I also loved "Clerks." And "Mallrats" was OK fun. I'm probably in a minority on this.

I state the following not to disparage your views DR John G., but rather out of my difficulty in understanding the appeal that Kevin Smith somehow maintains 20 years after "Clerks".

If any of Smith's movies was "worthy" of a Criterion edition it would be "Clerks" and not "Chasing Amy".  My feeling is that "Clerks" remains Smith's best movie, and will stand up over time.  Everything he's done since then pales in comparison.  "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" was unwatchable and feels like a very inside joke.  "Dogma" had an interesting premise but overall it was not good as it was beating the dead horse that is anti-Catholicism.  I also find Smith to return to the same stoner humor over and over.  Maybe I was never the target audience.  As funny as they were and could be, even Cheech and Chong get tiresome.  I have a hunch that "Chasing Amy" was given the placement in the Criterion "pantheon" because of Ben Affleck and his then-recent Oscar for "Good Will Hunting", and that the folks choosing the films thought it was "cutting edge".  Remember that Roger Ebert was a board-member for Criterion and he was the only reviewer that I know of who liked the Burt Reynolds starrer "Cop and a Half" (a certifiable bomb if there ever was one).  So, Ebert was not always a reliable barometer of taste; I was a Siskel fan myself.  I've read that enough time has now passed to let slip the secret that William Goldman was the "ghost" who actually wrote the screenplay for "Good Will Hunting".  The gambit was made to "ensure" a win for Affleck (no secret here, not a fan) and Damon (who I'm not crazy about, but he is better than the other guy) to "kick" them into a higher pay-grade.

I will now yield the soap box. ;)

And now I shall take my mach 1 eyeballs and go to bed.   In all the hours I've watched the plane coverage, the best thing I got out of it is "mach 1 eyeballs"  for the technology of humans looking out the window.

Back from the opening night, about which more later.

Reminds me of the theme song from The Bugs Bunny Hour, "This Is It" by the great Mack David and Jerry Livingston:
Overture, curtains, lights,
This is it, the night of nights
No more rehearsing and nursing a part
We know every part by heart
Overture, curtains, lights
This is it, you'll hit the heights
And oh what heights we'll hit
On with the show this is it

And now, I'm going to bed.  I have been away from home since about 3:30 and I need to sleep.  Today, I get to sleep in!

I hope you slept in.  I would be lucky to sleep until 8:00.

Congrats on a fun and successful Toga night.

Thanks, Jane!  I did get some sleep.  I turned off my phone and didn't wake up until about 12:30. :D

I wish I could do that.

Sleeping pills (once in a great while) help.

Well, I have to go.  I need to get ready for the read-through of "Chamber Music" and ushering for Ann Hampton Callaway.  I can't wait!

Until later!

The read-through went quite well.  Rehearsals will start April 1, but I probably won't be needed until tech week.

The Ann Hampton Callaway concert was fantastic!  She had piano, bass and drums with her and the Olympia Symphony Orchestra was her back-up.  She was better than I could've imagined.  Her show was all Barbra Streisand songs, and all her patter was relevant and about the songs (it had a point!).  She sang a couple of songs that she wrote for Barbra, including the song she wrote for Barbra's wedding!

The audience was smaller than should've been there...less than 350, but they definitely were fans and enjoyed the concert.  I seated people during the pre-show, but sold CDs during intermission and after the show.

After the show, Ann came out to the lobby and signed CDs and chatted with anyone who was there and was extremely nice.  She was so sweet and I got to chat with her.  Her manager (I think) was there and comped a CD for me for selling them.  Score!  Ann signed my CD while we chatted.  It was such a great evening.  VERY highly recommended by the likes of me!! :D
