Good evening.

Today TWO different people stood up during prayer request time and burst into song. It was almost like being in a musical.

Then we saw a local production of "Les Miserables." That's where I was all afternoon.

BTW

The five theaters were: the Helen Hayes, the Morosco, (The theater also ended with a one nighted called the Mooney Shapiro Songbook), the Bijou, (last play was Passionate Ladies which played 8 performances) and the Gaiety/Victoria (Which was the Embassy 5 Movie Theater) and the Astor (which had closed as movie in 1972)

Here is a clue:

The first lady of the theater.

Vera Charles?

Good guess but I did mean the real first lady :-)

Patrick Dennis: Is the English lady sick, Auntie Mame?
Auntie Mame: She's not English, darling... she's from Pittsburgh.
Patrick Dennis: She sounded English.
Auntie Mame: Well, when you're from Pittsburgh, you have to do something.

But my favorite but of dialogue was

Auntie Mame: Widdicome, Gutterman, Applewhite, Bibberman and Black. You want to talk to Mr. Gutterman? One moment, sir. I'll connect you. Widdicome, Gutterman, Applewhite, Bibberman and Black. Oh, yes Mr. Bibberman. You'd like to talk with Mr. Applewhite? Oh, yes, sir, he's in. I'll connect you. Widdicome, Gutterman, Applewhite, Bib-bib-bib-blib-bibman and Black? Oh yes, long distance, how are you? Oh. Mr Widdecome? I have your San Francisco call for you. Yes, Mr. Bibberman? Oh. Did I connect you to Mr. Gutterman instead of Mr. Applewhite? I'm sorry Mr. Bibbicome, Bibbibibbib.
[She pulls the jack out of the plug and shakes it]
Auntie Mame: Oh Mr. Applewhite, what are you doing in that hole with Mr. Gutterman? Yes Mr. Widdicome? Oh, I'm sorry, sir. I'll try to reconnect you again with San Francisco. Let me see, Mr. Bibibib is in there talking to Mr. Bubbawhite. Where on earth is Mr. Applewhite? Oh, there you are Mr. Applewhite!
[She starts to cross cords and desperately plug jacks into holes]
Auntie Mame: Mr. Widdicome, there's no such place as San Francisco. Please!
[She lifts up her console and is horrified to see that it's glowing]
Auntie Mame: Mr. Bibibib? Mr. Widdicome?

DR Ginny, I believe you saw "The Grass Harp" at Ann Arbor. Do you still have your program?

Indeed I did, DR Elmore, and I'm sure I still have the program.  Why do you ask?

Can you scan it and send it to me? I need cast and musical program.

I'll work on that tomorrow, DR Elmore!

My father took the photos so I don't know why I can't find any early ones of just my mother with me.  There are plenty of her with my two older siblings-the downside of being the youngest I suppose ;D

There are no baby pictures of me.  The youngest photo of me was when I was five years old and I was  doing THE LITTLEST ANGEL.  Maybe that is why I kept doing theater.

Were they lost or did your parent's not have a camera?

I was the youngest.  They had lost interest.

I am listening to what will be the most important Kritzerland release of the year - another incredible "save" as was Place in the Sun.  This is something no one would ever have thought would see the light of day - the only existing material on this film was a set of acetates from the composer's estate - acetates that were problematic and in such disarray in terms of takes and bits and pieces that no one ever thought it could be sorted out - well, it has been and the results thus far (I'm a third of the way through) are no less than astonishing.

I suppose a dissolving marriage had something to do with it.

SUNDAY TRIVIA

I have posted this one before and it is one of my favorites. So if you know the answer from the previous time please allow someone to answer it.

This playwright wrote three plays that were produced on Broadway. One in the 60's, one in the 70's and one in the 80's. Each played one performance.

The play in the 80's also is notable for something else in Broadway history.

Name the playwright, the plays and what it is notable for.

The answer is Oliver Hailey.......playwright
The plays:
First One Asleep Whistle 2/26/66
Father's Day 3/16/71
I Won't Dance 5/10/81

And I Won't Dance was the last play to be at the original Helen Hayes Theater which was one of five theaters to be torn down for the Marriot Hotel

Hence the clue reference to the first lady of the American Theater

DR LAURA mentioned Vera Charles in reference to my clue.

In celebration of her Vera Charles guess here are two dialogue exchanges.

Norah Muldoon: [to the electrical contractor regarding Vera Charles] It's the "First Lady of the American Thee-ayter" out cold in the guestroom. Ms. Charles don' live here. She does her drinkin' here and her passin' out here.
Is this interesting?

Gloria Upson: Miss Charles, I've just got to tell you how I adored you in "Mary of Scotland."
Vera Charles: Did you dear? That was Helen Hayes.

Now I relax from now until bed - with one short visit from the director of Overlord who's picking up some CDs today to take to Cannes, where the film is being shown in their classics series.

Cool!

When I got home today, I was going to read for a while, but I decided to take a little nap instead.  I slept for three hours...it was muchly needed.
