George, you said you bought your car through Costco. Did you buy it new or used? Do you know approximately how much you saved and would you tell us?

Yes, I will tell you:  I bought a new 1998 Ford Escort and it cost $14,400.  Because of Costco, I only paid $100 over the invoice price...no haggling.  Also, Ford was having a 0.9% interest deal, if financed through Ford Credit, so I saved a boatload of money there, too. :)

My opening joke got a great laugh - actually my opening joke was a musical number - brief, but very funny.

Did I ever tell this story?

Many years ago I was buying a new Honda. I brought along a friend who can be quite shrewd. But instead of helping he just sat there, engrossed in a magazine! I really liked the gray one, but they'd have to order it and it'd take about 6 weeks. They had a blue one, equipped the way I wanted it, on the lot. A good second choice. I knew they wanted me to buy it and NOT wait the 6 weeks. I kept saying, "but I really like the gray one." I saved $2500 by buying the blue one--but not right away.

That same situation happened to my mom...she wanted a certain color that the dealer didn't have (I forget which), so she was able to negotiate a MUCH lower price for the exact same car in white.

I have now replaced my wireless keyboard. I have no idea why the old one died, except it was a cheap model.  I already like the feel of this one better than the old one.

Congrats, Tom!

DR Cillaliz - sorry that you and your family are going through such a difficult time. Continued thoughts your way!

thanks. Bob died this morning.  I don't know what they are doing as far as a service. My brother said he'd let me know.  He said they had come to terms with everything over the past few days.  My guess is they are talking to family and trying to get some rest.

I'm so sorry, Cillaliz.  My condolences. :(

Nathan Gunn did a TV production of CAROUSEL?

It was a semi-staged, costumed, concert version.  Kelli O'Hara was Julie Jordan.

Just watched a pair of Hammer Noirs, Stolen Face and Blackout. Both excellent for what they are, low-budget crime dramas.

The plot of Stolen Face was fairly twisted: Plastic surgeon Paul Henreid falls in love with Lizbeth Scott, but she rejects him. So, he grafts her face onto a criminal with a disfigured face and marries her. Then Lizbeth shows up and his life becomes hellish. If they had written it today, the two lookalike women would go off into the sunset together.

Well, there was the movie "Face/Off" where Nicolas Cage and John Travolta had their faces switched.  I didn't watch it, so I don't know what happened.

Videos?  Be careful, you don't want the composer to get upset!
