I haven't seen any of this year's foreign films, but I did like Amenabar's Open Your Eyes, ruined by Hollywood as Vanilla Sky.

They're really pushing hard to get out of this by eight-thirty.

Josh Groban is a good singer, but like a lot of the artists whom companies are trying to push onto as many age groups as possible - why can't I remember the exact word for "age groups" - a lot of his albums and material are waaaaay over-produced.

It's actually not that big a voice.  Lots of forward edge to it - brightness - which makes it seem bigger than it actually is. Which is actually a good thing.  *That's how Dawn Upshaw's voice can fill the Met.

But add strings, synth strings and a drum machine behind him...

It would be interesting to hear him acoustically with just a piano.

*And I also have a feeling his voice will actually get higher as he ages.  Men's voices don't really hit their prime until their late 20s.

Why does it look like all the presenters are standing in front of Baggage Claim?  Can't they turn off that revolve?

I finally figured out what they're doing with these music playoffs into commercials - first Laura, then Magnificent Seven, now Chinatown - all by the composers who died this year - Raksin, Bernstein and Goldsmith.  Subtle, and I'm sure lost on 99% of the viewers.

Kaufmann's films are weird for sure, but always worth investigating.

The best foreign film I saw last year was Almodovar's BAD EDUCATION and it wasn't nominated for anything!

At least you West Coasters have most of your evening available. It's almost 11:30 p.m. here!

Probably because Spain chose to submit Motorcycle Diaries instead of Bad Education
