That did it.

A few other movies I'd like on DVD, none of which has been scheduled:

Night of the Iguana
Autumn Leaves
The Five Pennies
Gambit
Monsieur Hire

Happily I don't have to part with limbs - the conductor is a friend and someone I've used on many, many albums of mine.
Need a date?  :D (Yeah, like DH would let me go!!!)

Folks who enjoy their punk music with a gothic and melodic tinge, and I know there are dozens of you on here, you will enjoy the 1985 album PHANTASMAGORIA by The Damned.

Does that count as using it in a sentence?

Skyscraper Souls...isn't that the one that takes place in a large 1930s department store? I do think I remember that one!

More DVDs needed:

All the rest of June Kenney's and Allison Hayes' films...but I won't hold my breath!

I would love to see some of Russ Meyer's 1960s films on DVD also.

phantasmagoria \fan-taz-muh-GOR-ee-uh\, noun:
1. A shifting series or succession of things seen or imagined, as in a dream.
2. Any constantly changing scene.

You know what I did not realize...actress Anita Page, star of BROADWAY MELODY OF 1929, is still alive...and is still a working actress! My gosh she is like 94 years old! What a gal!

Hmmmm...has anyone seen a recent interview with her?????? Something needs to be done about that, if not.

Happy birthday to occasional Kurt.

I got my paper done at two in the morning, but since I was so hyped up on caffeine (Cherry Coke) and sugar (chocolate), I couldn't get to sleep until 4:30. You want to talk about phantasmagorias...

Hey, BK, is it too late to make suggestions for Guy Haines' new album? I've been meaning to say that I think he should sing "Mack the Knife," "Catch a Falling Star," and "(The Gang That Sang) Heart of My Heart."

Welcome back, Vixmom! Thanks for all of the Lewis Carroll. Where else on all of the internet would you find the Hebrew translation of Jabberwocky, I ask you?

Good Afternoon!

Greetings from Fairfax!

I didn't leave Richmond until just after Noon, but after waking up still very sleepy and tired at 8:00, I decided it would be best for me to make the drive up not so sleepy and tired.  Good self-advice, dontcha think?

Great day for a drive.  On the cold side, but nice and sunny.  And the traffic was non-existent too.

The only "bad" part of the drive was when I switched to my usual DC area radio stations after passing Fredericksburg.  I hit the button for WETA, 90.9, just in time to hear the 1:01 NPR news.  Then the news continued...  Ohh...  I forgot that the change to the all-news format started yesterday.  :(  So, instead of listening to some classical music like I was hoping to, I tuned into a pop station for a while, then turned the radio off, and finished my trip up just listening to my car on the highway.  Ah, well...

Before heading to my parents' house, I made a stop to get my hairs cut at my favorite barber shop.  Unfortunately, my cut today wasn't as good as it usually is.  I had to to do some fine tuning when I got to my parents' place.  Luckily, with my hair, after just a day or two of growth, any inconsistencies even out on their own.

...And it appears my parents have raided the collection of CDs I have stashed here.  -I was looking for a few more CDs to burn, and couldn't find them, but after checking some other places... AH!!  There they are!  In any case, it's nice to know my parents' musical tastes are starting to broaden.  ;)

As for DVD releases....

Hmmm...

Yet one more vote for Flower Drum Song.

The only other films I can think of right now are two French ones:  Un Coeur En Hiver, and La Lectrice.   -And they may actually be available on DVD by now - I haven't checked on them in a while.

-Btw, to tie this in with the mention of "Jabberwocky", there is a very amusing sequence in "La Lectrice" where the Reader (The "lectrice") is reading some Lewis Carroll.

DR vixmom - Thanks for reminding me to take my Season of Savings Book with me when I head to NYC next week.

I'm also trying to line up a couple of "pit observations" while I'm in the city.  If you thought the show on stage was something, sometimes the show in the pit is ever moreso!

But in the meantime, I'll be tending to some things around here...

Phantasmagorical is used in the theme song for "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" - what a phabulous word!   The DP is quite the creator of homemade MarchMellows, and they ARE yummlicious, great in cocoa.  DVD releases.... any Broadway show that was videotaped for archive purposes, I think, by now should have a chance to make it to DVD.  And from what I've read, there are a lot.

Topic of the Day:  of the movies that I'd like on DVD, these get my vote (and all have been mentioned already):

At Long Last Love
The Boy Friend
Flower Drum Song
Gambit
The Pirates of Penzance (Angela Lansbury)
Song of the South (mentioned on a previous day)

I can't think of any that haven't already been mentioned...yet.  Maybe later.

I've seen Anita Page interviewed in quite a few documentaries ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE. Seems like she was just featured in the Irving Thalberg documentary that aired last month on TCM, and in quite a few other ones as well.

Poor old dear in her interviews is always, like Mae West in her later years, wearing a huge honey blonde wig and enough makeup to paint the entire cast of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES. But she's a grand old trouper, so I don't mean to sound indelicate or critical - just informative.
