Spamalot was the show I wanted to see too, but I didn't realize that it was opening that weekend.

Yes, and the producers use all the house seats for critics for that entire week.  We'll see what happens.

Vixmom I enjoyed reading about your day and hope the service was a big success today.

SWW I was expecting a king size bed.  ;D We use to think our bed was too crowded.  Keith’s reaction to the photo was funny.

Yesterday we had a baby shower for my nephew John and his wife Jamie (parent's of my grand-neice Taylor).

The shower was fun..lots of people...lots of food...but short lived as Jamie went into labor during the festivities! LOL!

Three hours later I have a brand spanking new grand-nephew named Benjamin Cooper Wyland!

CONGTATULATIONS!  :D

I think the reviews for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels were middling, but that doesn't always mean anything. It is just the plot that doesn't grab me. Maybe I will try Avenue Q

Bruce GOOD VIBES!!

Have you changed your cell phone message to let people know you aren’t receiving your messages consistently?  I have had that problem and it can be very upsetting.  I also tend to have the problem in L.A. more than anywhere else, but then I use my phone in L.A. more than anywhere else.

This is a new show that's opening

THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA
Vivian Beaumont Theatre

First Preview: March 18

Opening: April 18

Director: Bartlett Sher

Cast: Victoria Clark, Kelli O'Hara, Matthew Morrison, Mark Harelik

Lincoln Center Theater's staging of Adam Guettel and Craig Lucas' new musical about a young American woman who falls for a young Italian man while on holiday.

Sounds like Adam's grandfather's Do I Hear a Waltz!

Hisaka I haven’t seen Swan Lake since I was young and my father took me to see Fonteyn and Nureyev perform.   My memory says this was the performance I saw them in together.  I attempted to find a listing of when they were in Los Angeles together and for which ballets.  I wish I had saved my ticket stubs.

Greetings from fabulous Las Vegas!! We had quite a drive up here. Here is a picture of one of the sights we saw: the bustling metropolis of Nothing, Arizona, population 4. (We met one quarter of the population.)

I'm wondering if it's too soon to play some Christmas music.  I normally don't let seasons affect my choice of music.  Hmmm.  I think I'm going to have to play some.

Benjamin Cooper Wyland-- what a great name.  If anyone does a google search on that name, they'll now come up with at least three hits!

Hello, fellow Dear Readers. We are having a swell time in Sin City, finding squeaky-clean ways to amuse ourselves. When we get home, we will treat you all to a collage of tacky casino carpets. As you all know, we find tacky things to be fascinating.

For the last three days, the song, "You Don't Need Wings To Fly" (or whatever it's called-- the theme from "The Flying Nun") has been going through my head.  I haven't heard the song in decades, so why now?  If this keeps up, I'll have to see if it's out on a TV's Greatest Hits.  It's making me crazy(er)--Don't be surprised if you see a headline screaming,
"PHOENIX MAN LOSES IT OVER THE FLYING NUN!"

If DR's Laura and Sandra are in Las Vegas, it's probably safe to assume there is a production of "Forever Plaid" in the vicinity.

Good Morning!  Good Afternoon!

Well, I went ahead and drove back to Richmond last night.  I did spend some time in the (very smoky!!!) bar with the staff after the business of the day was completed.  It's always just nice to compare notes and share the horror stories.

:)

In any case, I left right before midnight, and pulled into my parking space here in Richmond around 3:20.  Very good time.  And it had snowed here yesterday too!  Just a very light dusting, but still snow.  I kept seeing all these ice warnings posted on the digital road signs, but couldn't figure out why.... Ooohhhh....

After bringing all my bags in, and chatting briefly with my roomie, I more or less stumbled into bed.  As soon as I stepped into my apartment, the past three days caught up with me. I was T-I-R-E-D!

Next thing I knew, it was 11:30 this morning...

So, now I'm just doing some laundry, going through my mail, and putzing around in general.  I did pack my big luggage before heading to Greensboro, so all I have to do is supplement it with some more "necessaries".

Like DR MattH's locale, it's a gorgeous day here too.  I may go ahead and take a walk in a bit.  I need to do some banking via ATM, and the walk down to my bank would be very nice.

I also kept thinking I had a ton of stuff to take care of today, but since I took care of most of it - well, more than I thought - last week...  I can be a bit leisurely today - which is good.

:)

DR vixmom - As for the overdone song, I think I had mentioned the two songs from MILLIE.

Only one "Defying Gravity".  -Which was a good thing.  -Cause if you can sing that song correctly, you probably didn't need to be at SETCs. ;)

And now that I've had a day from the proceedings...

Horror Story #1...  Well, more like a funny one...

A young woman sang "C'est Magnifique"...

She started at the beginning of the song, and ended at.. "It is so tra-gi-que...."

-And it certainly was!

Funny Horror Story #2...

A young woman sang "Not A Day Goes By"

I think she thought it was more like an opera aria.  She started in the middle where the melody starts to creep up higher and higher.

She never quite made it the high E...  nor the high F...

Thankfully, her cut of the song stopped before the high F#.

Unfortunate Horror Story #3...

A young woman picked this very sweet, personal monologue.  She then went into Kander & Ebb's "A Quiet Thing".

Well, it soon became VERY apparent that she had picked the song because the lyrics complemented her monologue.  She did not realize that song actually calls for a bit of range, vocally speaking.  By the time she got to the middle of the song, she was basically yelling it on pitch just to try to reach the proper pitches.  -And you could tell she was upset too.  Ah, well...

But, hopefully, she learned Lesson #1 - PRACTICE! PRACTICE!  PRACTICE!!

It still amazes me the number of people who come into an audition - whether in Greensboro, Richmond, Chicago, NYC, etc. - who have never practiced their audition song(s).  Oh, they may have sang along with the album a few times, or sang it on their own, but never with a piano, with the music they cut up and pasted into their books.  Big mistake!  BIG!

Eleven-thirty and I'm the only one in attendance?

That is simply OLEAGINOUS!

I've already written more pages than I'd intended.  Hoo and ray.  Maybe I'll even do a few more, as I am in this critical section of the book.

I've washed the dishes, put the laundry away, cleaned the glider cage, and tidied up the living room.  I am now thinking ahead to what I shall prepare for lunch...I believe spaghetti sounds good.

I sadly had no Mexican food yesterday...budget would not allow.

Der Brucer and I, obviously, did not have Mexican food yesterday.  He did, however, have something that was Incan: his soup was a marvelous potage made of leeks and quinoa.

.

Big deal, Woody!!!

All the soup I eat is Incan.
