What is it with Jesse Jackson these days?  First, Michael Jackson; now Terry Shiavo.  I know the Rev has been somewhat marginalized in the last few years, but is he that desperate for attention these days?

Well, DR VIXMOM  - you can be sure that said Sale will include all the Carroll Baker and Frances Farmer items you might ever be interested in.  Of course the Allison Hayes ephemera goes to DRMBARNUM.

The LP's will be the last to go, I am sure, but somebody will like Liberace, Billy Vaughn, Annette, Lawrence Welk, and ALL those Cast Albums.

Dibs on the cast albums!!  ;D

Not Put Me to the Test, although from the same film, Cover Girl.  Rita sings Sure Thing in the film.

The lyrics to the beautiful "Sure Thing" can be found here.  ;D

I think it is a lovely "want" ballad.  Not as lovely as the R/H selection we heard about in chat last night.  That song is one of those that takes emotion to ANOTHER level!  :'(

Interesting article at canoe.ca.  Apparently Rupert may be the next cross-over to The Amazing Race.

Also interesting, last week TAR was the most popular show in Canada (3.43 M), followed by Idol #2 and 3, Survivor #4 and CSI #5. Medium #6.

Also good news it says that Tru Calling will be starting season 2 March 31st.

DerBrucer I thought my disgusting comment was following your toe fungus thing, not the moving comments about your mother’s funeral-sorry.
In the Jewish tradition a simple coffin is the best.  Of course all styles are provided.  Fortunately my sister and I agreed on the simplest one at the funeral home.  I’m sure your choice gave you comfort.

A sense of humor at these times is needed.  I have known people who add personal items in the coffin so I thought it would be nice to send my father off with a box of See’s candy which he ate almost every day of his life.  My sister said she didn’t really want a box in there as it would rot.  I just about bit my tongue and nodded solemnly.

Re:  DeLay and Schiavo:  The ABC News last night revealed that DeLay removed his comatose father from life support 10 or 20 years ago.  Funny how that seems not to have been widely reported.

Re:  William Bolcom.  Well, here's my William Bolcom story for the day--Portland had a little mini-Bolcom fest a few years ago and suddenly everyone discovered Mr. Bolcom's original manuscripts are near impossible to decipher.  So guess who was hired to "clarify" things?  Oy.  You would not have believe them--first of all they were not on standard manuscript paper, but rather this incredibly wide paper with maybe 7 or 8 staves to a page.  They thankfully provided me with CDs of the scores I was deciphering so I was able to figure out what the scribbles meant.

I think there's one more Re I meant to post about, but it escapes me at the moment.  :)

"All The Things You Are"
"The Way You Look Tonight" - I think that this is one of the greatest songs ever written.  I don't know why, I just do.
I love the 3-CD complete Show Boat, but especially "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man," the extended up-tempo version and scene...not so much as a ballad, though.

That's all I can think of for now.

Ben-
You read Reidel's column in the Post today? Lays it all out in Black and white about Daniel D. He and Beach haven't been speaking, etc. Cast was going to mutiny if he stayed on.
All I know is he made a friend of mine cry on the phone. Twice!

http://www.nypost.com/news/regionalnews/41900.htm

Does anyone know if the show has been recorded yet?  If it hasn't, will Daniel Davis do the disc? ;) Or will he even be asked??

It does make sense to me the FBI is involved.  What if the body to the finger is missing?  Could this be the next episode of MONK or NUMB3RS?

Did I miss something?  Have you shuffled off this mortal coil?  Or, alternatively, to Buffalo, which is more or less the same thing?  :)

DRMBARNUM - I saw Dorothy Neumann in THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD.  I forgot she was in it!  She has a couple of lines in the crucifixion scene.

She was wearing a hood, but I bet she had her hair in pigtails!  ;D

LOL DRJANE - well that would be who would have signed it!  I know that Jean (who wrote the book under Frances' name) often said she would hear her typewriter keys during the night.  I told her to put a piece of paper in the typewriter, and she declined.

I am sure she didn't want to know what Frances was thinking!

Der Brucer, it was not Les Laisions Dangereuses which I also saw at the Ahmanson.  Without rooting through my theatre programs, it was called something like Scenes from the Death of an Artist or something like that.

Try:

Howard Baker's SCENES FROM AN EXECUTION,
Directed by Robert Allan Ackerman.
American Premiere 1992 MARK TAPER!
Olivia d'Abo, Frank Langella and Juliet Stevenson

George, no there is no recording of the new production of La Cage and as far as I know, no recording is planned. After this bit of news I doubt that a recording will happen.

TOD - I can't contribute any Kern titles that haven't already been mentioned, but my favorite versions of many of them are by Joan Morris.

Yes, indeed!  I forgot "Lonesome Walls."

Another Joan Morris fan! We love her. Anthony and I saw her with her husband, William Bolcolm and Max Morath at the Lucille Lortel theatre this past summer. We spoke to them after the performance and they were very generous with their time. Anthony brought a CD which they kindly autographed and we spoke about music and performing with them for almost a half hour. It was a wonderful experience. Ginny, I know you're from Michigan. Did you go to U of M at Ann Arbor? Joan Morris is on the faculty there (I assume you already know that).

DRBen, Joan and Bill are both on the faculty at U of M, and they are wonderful friends.

Ben - Yes, I went to Michigan, but was gone from there before William Bolcom joined the faculty in 1973 (the year I left) and Joan Morris in 1981.  It was actually Elmore who introduced me to their recordings when we worked together on a local production of Look Homeward, Angel.  I've only seen them perform once, here at the Sorg Opera House in Middletown, in 1985.  We had an experience similar to yours, talking to them afterward.  Very gracious and down-to-earth.

DRGinny, didn't you come to Duffs with Joan and Bill and many others after the concert at the Sorg?  I flew back to Ohio to see them!

One thing that was revealed in chat, vixmom, is the Jerome Kern song on the upcoming Guy Haines album.  Amazingly, it has not been mentioned here today.

It's a secret, BK!  I deliberately avoided it.

Hope no one mentioned "hijack"!
