Just read the VARIETY review of the new movie version of BEWITCHED and sad to say it's a pan. (A film critic friend of mine who also has seen the movie passed along his opinion that it's a grave disappointment).

I hate that such a lovely TV show, one of my fondest remembrances of my youth, has not been done justice in a movie version.

What a shame!

Little corrections and then.... I scram!

It's not "Zoot alors!" (Zoot Suite; LOL!)

It's "Zut, alors!"

and it is "Quel dommage!"

This IS exciting, isn't it???

Only here at HHW; French made simpler!

And now, Dino at the piano!

(We NEED some music, don't we?)

no one ever reads my news clippings

I did and I thought it was funny.  I was also in Eureka on Monday.  Gosh was it only Monday.  Now that I’m home it seems so long ago.

Thank you and thank you.  :) I’m sorry I did stay to read your messages.

What cheese?

Oh...a bit of port cheddar, some brie, and just a soupçon of bleu.

TCB-GREAT PHOTO Tomovoz posted.  While we were in Santa Monica I purchased a top that says Buffalo Bill’s Wild Rough Riders of the West.  I told Keith I wish I could wear it to your show.

Had a nice night of DVDs. First I finished POSSESSED. There were some areas of print damage later in the film, water spot-looking damage that ran on longer than I thought it would. But in the main, the movie looked very good for its age, and I enjoyed it. Joan is never as much fun when she's playing a weakling. The tough Joan is much more enjoyable.

Then, in honor of DRs TCB and Jed, I put in the MGM musical version of ANNIE GET YOUR GUN. It's the first time I've seen it on the new set, and I have to say the larger picture and stunning color were very enjoyable.

With ANNIE GET YOUR GUN looking so smashing, I decided I'd watch a couple of other MGM musicals on the new set that I haven't seen in awhile.

First up was AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, but naturally I only played the  ~ 20 minute ballet sequence. Noticed colors there I had never zeroed in before - orange ballet slippers in one sequence, and Caron's more orange than yellow skirt in the can-can sequence.

It really looked spectacular, and one can only imagine what it would look like now with more state-of-the-art mastering being done on DVDs. This was one of the early DVD releases.

Then I put in the 1951 SHOW BOAT. To say it knocked me out of my chair with its vibrant color would do it an injustice. The colors are rich enough to fall into. I saw a neon green stripe on Gower Champion's pants in that opening number I had never ever seen before, and I've seen SHOW BOAT on the big screen and dozens of times on home video in everything from VHS to laserdisc to DVD. Amazing Technicolor.

I stopped the DVD after that opening number because I want to save the rest of it for tomorrow. Then, I'll return to the world of black and white for ADVISE AND CONSENT.

But I know the next Technicolor movie I'm putting in will be SINGIN' IN THE RAIN.

Lucky for me, Friday night television is usually such a wasteland that I could watch all these DVDs tonight.

Today is an exciting day for me, boring maybe for you.  Finally after several months of hunting, I finally found the paint color I want for the little bathroom we are SLOWLY remodeling.  It has such a cute name, Teddy Bear Tan.

I was getting very close to having to settle for any color  since Keith plans to paint on Monday, that is if the flake of a drywall guy returns in the morning to finish the job.

I'm back from seeing LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, which I enjoyed mostly for its beautiful scenery, fluid staging,  wonderful costume, and wonderful cast.

I just checked the CD and they've exactly doubled the string section: 12 violins and five celli on CD and 6 violins and 2 celli in the theatre.  They were wrong to increase the strings; the chamber sound of the  pitorchestra is just perfect, perhaps too much piano noodling and too many timpani/cymbal crashes for such a delicate piece but siuch is the nature of the power ballad these days.

I enjoyed the score much more in performance than as a listening experience; now that I've seen the piece, I think now I'll enjoy the recording more, and there are several wonderful numbers .   I think my favorite, and the best scored, is "Dividing Day."

I liked the cast, even my bete noir Miss Clark, who seems to be always on the verge of a grandiose "I'm a star now" performance, although in Act Two she has a marvelous line that moved me greatly.  A person behind me said rather loudly at one point "she sounds like Katharine Hepburn," with which I cannot totally disagree; she's channeling several grandes dames.  The other principals -  Patti Cohenour, Mark Harelik, Matthew Morrison, Sarah Uriarte Berry, Michael Barresse, and Kelli O'Hara - all have wonderful moments, as does my friend Beau Gravitte in a basically unsympathetic role.

And it is a stunning production.

The thrill of my excitement is dissipating as I wait for the Direcway man to finish changing our system.  The plan is to separate our internet and TV systems so our internet connection will work better.  So far it appears there won’t be a DVD or TV show to watch tonight, no music on while they work either.

Excuse please.  Who or what is this Beau Gravitte?

It sounds like a new paint color....or an exclusive fabric line...or a French ice cream flavor.

Beau Gravitte is the husband of Debbie Shapiro Gravitte, both dear friends.  Beau was on one of my favorite tv series, DOCTOR DOCTOR, with Matt Frewer.

Do you know where he is from?  I'm curious about the origin of his first name.

It's either French or Deep South!

Now, there, I'm no help at all!  Sorry.  I'll ask Debbie next time I see her.  When I first met Beau, I was doing a chart for Debbie and I had to go to their apartment and get the music from him since she was out of town..  This was around 1984 or so, and  I think he was then the primary hot actor on all the Gillette commercials.    I was thinking tonight as I looked at his Playbill photo that he looked a bit like George Dvorsky.
