In Georgia, they peddle boiled peanuts along the country highways. And they are actually quite enjoyable, once you get past the oddness of the concept.

Good Afternoon!

I'm back from rehearsal which was fun.  The Dance Captain and his assistant were just bringing the new Sophie cover/understudy up to speed.  We ran a couple of numbers, laughed a lot, and got a lot of work done.

Apparently, there were three "debuts" last night.  There are a couple of people leaving the show in about a month, and the "newbies" are just starting to swing in (and out) in order to learn all the tracks.

DRJose, did you do anything about tickets for next Thursday night?

RE: the non-letterboxing of films on NBC:

But S. Woody, with the proper marketing and push, it would have been a way to sell BIGGER screen TVs to the public if they could have been manufactured for a reasonable price. And remember that NBC's parent firm WAS none other than RCA, a major television manufacturer. They certainly were instrumental in selling color TV to the masses over time. Could have happened with widescreen movies, too, IF someone in charge had had the future in mind rather than the here and now (or the there and then if we're talking 1961).

DR Jennifer - As the other DRs have stated, DO NOT click on the links.  Opening the e-mails should not cause any harm, but clicking any links or downloading any attachments is a big No-No.

I remember when the whole E-mail virus and Trojan Horse stuff started popping up a couple of years ago.  Microsoft Outlook was particularly vulnerable since Outlook was usually set to download attachments as a default.  Which is the main reason I've stayed away from using Outlook for e-mail purposes.  It's just too efficient in that regards.

And remember, any official e-mails from either E-bay or PayPal will NOT have hyperlinks directly to your account.  And just to be safe, always log in directly to either site via your web browser.

Again, a day so busy with errands and chores that I only got 15 minutes of ADVISE AND CONSENT watched. But the transfer looks wonderful, and after years of seeing it panned and scanned on TV, it's miraculous to see the entire image.

I got through the end of my first time hearing THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA. There were glimmers of lovely songs, but I rarely liked where the melodies went as the songs progressed. I'm sure if I had seen the show, the songs would have an added resonance.

I will need to listen to it several more times to get a real feel for the songwriting, however. I was lukewarm on SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE the first time I heard it, too. Only after seeing it did the score begin to bowl me over, and I suspect THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA would have a similar effect on me.

Hmmm.... Boiled peanuts!

My parents would make a batch of these every once and a while when I was growing up.  Sooo good.  Apparently, it's also a Filipino thing.

When I drove back from Ft. Myers a couple of years ago, I stopped at the first gas station across the Georgia state line for the express purpose of buying boiled peanuts.  They had them sitting in crockpots along one counter.  Plain, Cajun and Extra Spicy.  I got a bunch of all three.

:)

However, it did get a little tricky eating them whilst driving.

Since several of you on here are wonderful cooks, perhaps you can enlighten me:

On my JEOPARDY tear-off calendar today is this question:

The 1885 Congress of Berlin passed out slices of this continent like cake.

The answer is: "What is Africa?"

Now, what is Africa cake? Has anyone ever heard of this? I have to admit this is one answer that had me scratching my head. This is a new one to me.

We are just happy whenever you post, don't worry about the numbers.

Does Eric bake Madelines?  One would think they are simple but really good ones are difficult to find.

I make Madeleines.

:)

I found a wonderful recipe a few years ago for Brown Butter Madeleines.  It's basically a regular Madeleine recipe, but instead of just adding plain melted butter to the batter, you add browned butter - butter that has been melted and heated until it browns - a la noisette as the French would say (resembling a hazelnut (in color)).  Not only does the browned butter add a nut-brown color to the finished product, but it also adds a nutty flavor to them without the addition of nuts.

However, lemon and oranges ones are good too.  Oh, and Earl Gray ones are a perfect afternoon treat.

DRMatth, the 1885 Congress of Berlin divided Africa for colonization as if the countries were slices of cake and the countries colonizing it were at a tea party.

DR Matt H - What DR elmore just said.

It all depends where you put the emPHAsis when you read the question.

Quote
At the Berlin Conference of 1884, the European powers met to carve up Africa. Leopold called Africa "that magnificent African cake." From this beginning, the Kongo Basin became the Congo Free State, 900,000 square miles, in essence the private estate of Leopold.

I'm here, I'm here, posting live from the airport.  I got here over two hours early, turned in my voucher and found, to my dismay, that over seventy people had already checked in (apparently you can do it online now), therefore I am in group "B" of boarders, and, no, that is not acceptable to me as it will put me in the middle of the plane.  So, I shall have to attempt to preboard with the children and people who need extra time.  I think we all know that I am either a child or a person who needs extra time.  Haven't decided whether I will have a sprained ankle (which will be obvious cause I'll limp) or if I'll just be my usual claustrophobic self (which I'll have to explain).

Did we ever imagine ten or fifteen years ago that we could be sitting in an airport terminal, laptop open, and on the Internet wirelessly?

And the flight is overbooked.  A 3:45 flight on a Wednesday is overbooked.  Amazing.

We had a nice go-through (Bruce is out of town today, so it was just JMK, Adair, and myself).  We cleaned up some last-minute stuff that needed cleaning, ran everything for time (the show runs a nice fifty minutes), added a few patter bits, and worked on a couple of Adair solos.  It was fun.

Thank you, DRs Elmore and Jose, for the information. Until your explanations, however, it still made no sense to me. Now, I understand completely what the question was about. The wording was poor. Your explanations were superb!

Well, I guess I'll mosey on over to the gate now.  I'll be back on as soon as I'm hooked up at the home environment.  For now, I shall shortly be on my way back to the City of Studio.

DR Elmore - I always sing that lovely Jaques Brel tune whenever I see a madeline or eat a madeline.   I think it might be my favorite Brel song.

Trader Joe's sells something like a boiled peanut.  They look blistered on the outside and crunch like nobody's business... and very yummy!

Umm....

That's a French Burnt Peanut.

Boiled peanuts are far from crunchy.

Jennifer:  There are good cookies and there are bad cookies.

For instance:  Every time you visit this forum, you probably don't have to log in.  That's because your hard drive received a cookie, and that cookie allows you to bypass log-in protocols each time you visit the site.

BEFORE you delete all your cookies, bear in mind that there are a number of places you probably visit where you will have to, again, log in.  If you don't remember your USERID and Password for each site, you will have to go to some troubles to have them sent to you.

I used MS Windows and to delete my cookies, I go to "My Computer," I click on my "C:\" drive, I click on "WIndows" and then I click on the "Cookies" folder.

If you've never been there, you probably have tens of thousands of cookies from roaming the internet.  You will want to isolate those sites you visit (www.haineshisway.com or www.firstbankofcanada.ord, or www.canoe.com).  You don't want to delete those because you know what they are.  The others, however, should go bye-bye.  If you've never done it, you have a chore ahead of you.  It might be a good idea to create a folder and call it "Cookies Save" and move the good cookies into the new folder.  Then, you can select All and hit the delete key.  If you have as many cookies as I suspect, it will take a while for them all to delete.

Once that is done, you can move the cookies from "Cookies Save" back into the "Cookies" folder.

Oh...

Well, maybe DR JMK and I and other can form a new support group: BKA - Bruce Kimmel Anonymous.

We could even have those t-shirts:

I worked with Bruce Kimmel, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt.
