DR Matthew - Did you get a chance to see Mr. Gunn in "Billy Budd" last summer with San Francisco Opera?

This isn't from Mozambique, but close.  It's an actual e-mail that I just happened to receive today!:I always wonder how many people actually respond to this.  There have to be some or it wouldn't keep happening. :P And I do get the eBay scam e-mail several times a month, too. :P :P

shall be compensating you with 25% of the total sum ,on final conclusion of this project for your assistance, US$500,000 will be given to charity from your locality based on your recommendation while the balance shall be for me for investment purposes. Because I intend to retire after the conclusion of this transaction. If this proposal is acceptable by you, please endeavor to contact me immediately. Do not take undue advantage of the trust I have bestowed in you by informing you of this transaction from my bank as I will advise you to kindly desist from responding at all if you do NOT intend to render any assistance. .............................

DR Elmore - I always sing that lovely Jaques Brel tune whenever I see a madeline or eat a madeline.   I think it might be my favorite Brel song.

My memory is the French text is originally "Ce soir j'attends Madeleine au premier du cineme" or something along those lines (I wait for Madeleine in front of the cinema) but the complete lyrics of Brel says "Ce soir j'attends Madeleine jai apporte du lilas!" When did Brel rewrite it?

I had an e-mail from a guy who identified himself as a barrister who was trying to settle the estate of one Mark Pulliam who, along with his wife and son, were killed on an Egyptair flight in 2003 enroute to Libya.

The barrister was seeking to have "me" declared the sole surviving heir and he would share the deceased's unclaimed $25million estate with me getting 45%.  He wanted me to contact him and establish communications in order to plan our strategy.

Half his words were run together...no spacing to speak of.  It was tempting just for the fun of yanking him when he would start directing me to provide him a bank account number or something...or to put something down toward "good faith" for his endeavors.

But life's too short and con men don't merit my time.

DR Jose - I haven't been to the opera in 10 years.  On a date for that matter.  We saw Madam Butterfly - I can remember being rather bored and probably sleepy.  During act two, I stayed awake and watched intently as I made comparisions to Miss Saigon (which I had memorized) - I was fascinated that if you listen real carefully, you can actually here Miss Saigon in Madam Butterfly at times - or vice verse ya know.... whatever :)

DR Ben, thanks for the warning.  I rarely click on those links, but I have once or twice.  And the reason I did it was because sometimes it's not so easy to be sure it is spam.  But also, I had no idea about the repurcussions.  I thought that what they were after was bank info/personal info, and that as long as I didn't enter any info I was fine.  Now I know.  And no i didn't think you were yelling.

I'd say Vice Versa... And some of "it" was on purpose too.  However, bits of Madame Butterfly also pop up in Les Miserables - I'm thinking of "The Humming Chorus" and "Bring Him Home" (in particular the instrumental version where the barricades are moving around with the bodies of the students on them - the oboe solo, I think).  In any case...

;)

I do like Madame Butterfly, but some judicious trimming would not ruffle my feathers.

-And I've always thought Cavalleria Rusticana's one act could easily be trimmed down to about 20 minutes.  There's just soooo much orchestral/instrumental music in that opera.  That long opening scene, and then the famous "Intermezzo".  Beautiful music, yes, but I find myself looking at my watch.

Ah... Jacques Brel....

For some reason, "Fanette" is going through my head.  Talk about haunting lyrics!  One of the teachers at Catholic University would frequently give that to her students.  And her students were always amazed at the "events" of the song after studying the text.

We were two friends in love, Fanette and I
The empty beach was warm and sleepy in July
If the sea recalls, the waves would surely say
I sang so may songs for Fanette each day
She was, she was as beautiful as rainbows in the sky
She was so beautiful and not at all am I
She was, she was there on the sand as gold as she was brown
And when I held her hand I held the world around
I was, I was so crazy then to think that it could be
I thought that I was hers, I believed she was for me
But we, we never learn until it's too late

We were two friends in love, Fanette and I
The empty beach was warm deceitful in July
If the sea recalls, the waves would surely say
I stopped singing my songs for Fanette that day
I saw, I saw them arm-in-arm enfolded by the sea
They looked so much in love they never looked at me
They saw, they saw me and they laughed, they stood and watched me cry
And sang their little song, I cursed the summer sky
You see, I'd like to tell you how
They swam so well that day
They swam so far away
You'll never see them now
Oh, no, no, no, no, no - no we never learn
But let's talk of something else

We were never two friends, Fanette and I
The empty streets are cold and crying in July
But when the waves are still I still can hear it yet
I hear a little song
I hear
Fanette

Hi folks!

I made the mistake of clicking on one of those links and I had a naked lady pop up on the right side of my computer for months afterwards.

I was horribly embarrassed and it took me forever to figure out where it was buried in my computer to get rid of it.

Needless to say, I NEVER open that type of mail because you can accidentally click on a link.  In fact, I have it set up that the only mail that goes to my mailbox is from e-mail addresses that I have on an approved list.  That’s why it’s important that if you change your e-mail address, you need to let me know so I can add you to it.

I check my junk mail box from time to time but not as often as I should.

Nuts!  I love’em.  Besides all of those have been mentioned, I haven’t seen, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, black walnuts, pistachios and corn nuts!  Yummers!  ;D

I love science museums. There is a good one in New Jersey just a PATH train and people mover ride away from Manhattan. It's called The Liberty Science Center. Laura, is the boy on the seat being lifted by Sandra her infamous younger brother?

Peanuts, pecans (pecan pie is a favorite) and cashews. I really like shrimp with cashews at The Cottage, our local Chinese restaurant.

Danise, you're posting so I assume you're feeling at least a bit better. Hope so, anyway.

I never saw Nuts, the play, just Nuts, the movie so I can't compare the two.

I hope my flight to Roanoke is not oversold next Friday, July 1st. I will not give up my seat for I must get to Roanoke to see Anthony's show. I am a loyal husband. Besides, we don't have cell phones so I couldn't call and tell him I couldn't get on the flight.

No. The infamous brother is an older brother.

The little fella in the picture is my friend's son, whom I take out occasionally for "adventures," as he calls them.
