I heard on the news tonight that $150 thousand dollars is considered "affordable" housing.  Wow!  :o

That's cheap compared to the Bay Area (San Francisc/Oakland/San Jose area).  The median price for a home is $600,000.

Now...contrast that with the median annual income of $70,000 and you've got a situation.

DR Jane - I'll do my best to find the location of the best madeline in Paris.  :)   While I can't guarentee it will make it back here, I'll at least provide the name of the establishment!

:D Only if you enjoy Madelines.  I just want to eat vicariously through you.  I think it will be a long, long time before I make it back to Paris, where I had my first madeline.

Poor Keith had a horrible day.  Painting isn’t his idea of fun, and yet that is what he is doing at the moment.  In between painting in the morning and finishing up this evening he spent HOURS on the phone trying to solve problems with Direcway.  First he waited on the phone forever just to speak to a real person.  Problem is the real person is way off in India & can be difficult to understand.  When he was suddenly disconnected in the middle of their conversation they couldn’t call him back from India, so he had to begin the process all over again.

They also instructed him to do something that wiped out our email and who knows what else.  We are missing emails sent between 11:11PM and 6:28PM and we haven’t a clue who wrote us.

Needless to say Keith isn’t in a very good mood. :o

I'm back, safe and sound.  Had a bit of a shock coming home - there was water coming out from beneath the back gate.  The minute I approached the house I could hear that the pipes were running, and I ran in and to the yard, where I found the pool slightly overflowing because the pool man forgot to turn off the water when he was filling it this morning.  Thank heaven I didn't get home any later - he's coming tomorrow to check things out.  A little water got into the garage which he'll have to clean up, but that looks like the worst of it.  Oy and vey.  Must run out now and get a couple of things from the market.  And no bills arrived whilst I was gone.

Welcome home, and thank goodness you went straight to your house from the airport.

Bruce in our local paper is an article from Portland “Makers of cold pills plan switch in makeup.”  Pfizer officials now back federal legislation to confine the sale of pseudoephedrine products to pharmacies as some states have done (maybe California and not Oregon is the state out of pace ;D) since resale restrictions have succeeded in reducing the number of meth labs in some states.  Also phenyulephrine-based products such as Sudafed PE are selling well.  Soon the drug companies might phase o
ut your pseudoephedrine product.

Also in the news today, not so good for me but appropriate for our TOD, is an article on Oregon hazelnut growers.  They want hazelnuts to become a staple.  I simply find the growing popularity of this nut a real pain.  Nothing like innocently biting into a delicious something only to have my throat and mouth begin swelling.  At least I have never lost the ability to breathe, yet.

Well, since Actifed is the only pill that helps with my allergies, that would not be good if it was fazed out, especially if it's because of some snot-nosed money-grubbing piece of scum drug person or people.  I mean, this sort of crap just never ends.  They'll be boiling the cotton from aspirin bottles next.  There are certain aspects of the world we live in which truly nauseate me.

I think we've done the topic of our favorite cookies before, but it might merit a repeat one day.

And, no, I don't mean internet cookies.

Two days after I got home from New York last summer, the water line into the back of my refrigerator sprang a leak. Imagine the water damage if that had happened while I was away from home. I get a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach just thinking about it.

I didn't get to see any more on ADVISE AND CONSENT today. I should be able to see most if not all of the rest of it tomorrow.

I will be car shopping tomorrow morning, and test driving, paperwork, etc. always takes 2-3 hours. Don't know at what point I'll return to the forum.

And speaking of over-the-counter drugs being sold behind the counter...  It appears that Advil and Aleve may be next on the list.  And even powdered baby formula is "under suspicion" right now since cocaine dealers are using it to "cut" their drugs.

Good Grief!

Well I have managed to churn out yet another sheaf of revised charts after our final runthrough with BK this morning.  Just had a mostly marvelous rhythm section rehearsal where we really nailed about 99% of what we need to.   Tomorrow we'll have a nice soundcheck/runthrough with the singers and the band in the theater space.

DR Jane, I do like madelines and I will definately give a full report.

I don't know what I'd do without Advill for my lower back issue and Alleve Cold and Sinus for colds.

My tooth is very sweet right now and I may just have to run out and get something for it.  I've not eaten all that much today, so I can probably get something and not have it be too problematic.

Speaking of nutmeats, they were handing out the peanuts on the plane when suddenly the stewardess took all of the packets back from those she'd passed them out to.  Why?  Because, there was someone on the plane who was allergic to peanuts.  Of course, I wondered why that person just didn't EAT the peanuts if they were allergic - why couldn't WE eat the peanuts?  It turned out that the very attractive young lady  next to me works in a hospital, and she told me that even the smell or dust particles from peanuts could put that person into an attack and that they could possibly even die from it.  Who knew?  They gave us Ritz Crackers instead, as there apparently wasn't anyone who was allergic to Ritz Crackers.

Perhaps I'll make cookies the topic for tomorrow, so lay off them tonight.

Good evening all.
What wonderful pics of the Portland group!  Thank you to George and MBarnum for posting them.  It really was such a fun gathering.

As for the TOD, I'm not generally a fan of plain nuts.  I will eat peanuts by themselves, on occasion, but I prefer nuts as a part of some other dish.  Almonds are a favorite, cashews aren't bad, pistachios are a childhood favorite...that's about it, I think.

What I think is amazing is that 20 years ago, you'd never, in your entire life, encounter anyone who was allergic to peanuts, much less would they die if there was a bit of peanut dust in the air.

Of course, that's because no one probably knew about it....still, I've never heard of anyone actually dying from peanut dust.

And I just adore peanut butter fudge!!!

I think you should at least "test drive" a hummer  (down, TCB, no comments from the peanut -- er...ummm -- Ritz Cracker gallery)

And just for fun, look at some of the hybrids.
