DR Jason - Your story reminds me of my first and only "Christmas bonus" at the music store I was working at in Richmond.  I had started there in March of that year as their new buyer and manager for their print/sheet music room.  By the time Christmas came along, I had doubled the inventory, more than doubled the business, and I had doubled the profit for that room from the previous year - which had more or less been doing "steady" business for the past 15.  So...

When I used to work at the store up in Falls Church, the owner was always generous when it came time for bonuses - Christmas or otherwise.  Jim always took good care of his employees.  -So I had some sort of precedent in my head now that I was down in Richmond.  Well... After being shown the new spreadsheets outlining my accomplishments in Richmond, the manager hesitantly informed me that the owner there did not believe in bonuses.  However, he did.  And he gave me a personal check for $75.00.  Yes, I was disappointed that I was not receiving more - especially after being just shown the "proof", but his generosity helped to ease the sting.  In fact, it turned out my manager and his assistant provided the bonuses for everyone in the store out of their own salaries.

...Which made it very hard for me to leave the store a few weeks later when my road work started to come in...  In any case...

Amidst all the gloom and doom, I hope there's at least one or two bright spots in your office - even if one of those bright spots is just a window with a view of the street.  ;)

JRand-If you can, please let me know the info for your show this weekend. I told my best pal in Indy about it, and he and his wife may be able to go.

How fine!  ;D

The theatre is in Greencastle, Indiana, about 1 hour and 10 minutes from Downtown Indy.

Showtimes left Thurs-Sat at 8 p.m.  Tickets are $8 each and should be reserved by calling 765-653-5580 any day after 5 p.m.

Tell me his name so I can watch for it on the list!  It would be nice to see a HHW'er once removed at my show!  ;D

He can also check us out at:

Well, I can definitely sense that my blood sugar is running a little low right now.  Some breakfast/brunch/lunch would be a good thing right now.

DR Jason - If it makes you feel any better, the place where I've worked for close to fourteen years doesn't give bonuses at all, just a small token Christmas gift.  And only one out of the six places I've worked in my working life ever gave a substantial bonus.  I can't say anyhting about the world in general, but on the basis of what I've personally experienced, bonuses are not the norm.  I know that might not make you feel better financially if you've come to rely on the bonus, but I've gotten so used to a "no bonus" world out there.  That doesn't put any more money in your pocket, but maybe it'll make you feel a little better about your company vs. the world out there, I hope?

When I worked for Drama Book Shop, around Thanksgiving, the owner would start finding excuses to be angry at the staff to justify to himself reasons for not handing out Christmas bonuses.

Kidd's is crass and bombastic,

Did you like his work in that little appreciated show called "Li'l Abner"? And shouldn't we give him some credit for the film "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers"?

Hmmmm....

Robbins: GYPSY, especially Gimmick!  And of course ALL of WEST SIDE STORY, but especially DANCE AT THE GYM and AMERICA!

Bennett: One from A CHORUS LINE, Turkey Lurkey Time from PROMISES, PROMISES (I only know it from the re-creation in CAMP) - and DREAMGIRLS - all of the girls' performance numbers especially the title tune!

Fosse:  hmmmm, I am torn here - because I really don't like his "hot" or "sexy" or "suggestive" moves much....I like him better in Steam Heat or Who's Got the Pain?, or even Shoeless Joe from Hannibal, MO!

Still thinking, though.

I think he was specifically referring to his choreography for the film version of HELLO, DOLLY! as opposed to Champion's stage work.

Oh.....thanks for the pics yesterday, derBrucer....lovely Birthday Dinner!  ;D

Why, I wonder, are we discussing Broadway choreographers and making no mention of:

TOMMY TUNE

The Club
The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas
A Day in Hollywood, A Night in the Ukraine
Nine
My One and Only
Grand Hotel
Will Rogers Follies

(nine Tony Awards!)

DtM - probably ALL of the variations on ONE including the "teaching" section, the "fall" - all of them that lead up to the finale!

If there is one thing I cannot stand it's to hear people chewing their food and the girl that sits across from me is smacking her lips on a salmon and spinach salad and it's driving me crazy!! I guess it's better than the two bananas she  squishes through her teeth everyday as a snack, or the oatmeal and (whole!) almonds she tears through each morning, but still...STOP THE MADNESS!!

OH MY!

Quote
Group Wants to Bring African Animals to North America
By JOSEPH B. VERRENGIA, AP
DENVER (Aug. 17) - If a group of prominent ecologists have their way, lions and elephants could someday be roaming the Great Plains of North America.

The rapid extinction of dozens of large mammal species in North America - perhaps due to a combination of climate change and overhunting - triggered a landslide of changes to the environmental landscape. Relocating large animals to vast ecological parks and private reserves would begin to repair the damage, proponents say, while offering new ecotourism opportunities to a withering region.

"We are not saying this is going to be easy," said Cornell University ecologist Josh Donlan, the lead author of the proposal. "There are huge and substantial risks and obstacles."

This AP Article concludes:

Quote
"Lions eat people," he said. "There has to be a pretty serious attitude shift on how you view predators."

Ya Think!

(Now, there be those that think a few lions prowling our southern borders might help out the immigration problem)

Did you see me and DP Woody on the front row, far left?

We, too, had a great time. Frankly, I think Sunset is much better than Phantom.

I agree!  Because they started with a well written story, it all worked.  The only problem is all the reusing of themes.  Can't ALW write a new tune for each different song??  How difficult can that be? :P

DR George, glad you're enjoying THE MUPPET SHOW, Season 1. Don't some of the Muppets look different to their "finished" versions that we're now familiar with. Miss Piggy, for example. Seems like she looked much less the diva in that first year, or is my memory simply playing tricks on me?

No, you are absolutely correct.  And two different people voiced her in the first season, too.  One of the options on the DVDs is a second set of subtitles that offer tidbits of information about the shows and episodes.  I had that selected a found out a lot about the history of the characters and the changes in the looks.  I highly recommend turning that on and reading the info while you watch the shows. ;D

I've always said that ALW writes some truly wonderful melodies... about sixteen measures per show, which he then uses approximately 2,734 times!
