I'll bet some don't remember it, but THE SMOTHERS BROTHERS COMEDY HOUR was the first TV program able to not only survive opposite BONANZA (then the #1 show) but actually to score Top 20 ratings on its own. This was the beginning of the fall of BONANZA from the top of the ratings roost.

Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour 1967-1970.

Don't you remember Pat Paulsen running for President.

1967-1970 - Really?!?!?

Hmm... I was born in 1968...  Well, I guess it is possible that "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour" could be one of my first TV memories.

If so... Well...  Explains a lot.  :P

I was a member of the Smothers Brothers Fan Club from the mid-1960s until the early 70s. I really adored them; had their albums, etc. And I thought Tommy was adorable.

DR Stuart - My parents and my brother/sister-in-law keep a modified kosher home, with respect to all their dishes and cooking outlets.  This is to allow for the strictly kosher relatives to feel comfortable eating in their homes.  But they will bring in non-kosher and eat it on plastic and tin plates (preferably old Entenmann's tin pans).  I've generally stopped following those rules since my yeshivah days, but tend to be just a little careful around the High Holy Days, more out of tradition than anything else.  Mom loves coming here on Mother's Day, her birthday and such, because she can't have shrimp and lobster at my sister-in-law's house.  :)

Well, since I have no plans for eating lunch away from home today (who can afford gas to get anywhere), I need to start searching around here for something to eat.

And, yes, we did have runs on gas stations yesterday as gas panic seemed to grip the area. Prices were flying upward, and lines were ten cars deep at pumps.

Reminded me of the oil shortage of the mid-1970s.

One of our politicians has a slogan "If you have a problem, don't get mad, get Eva."  The commercial was just on.

Reminds me of that movie title from a couple of years ago, DELIVER US FROM EVA.  That seemed like one of those ideas that must have strated with a clever title and they built the screenplay from there.

Lines at gas stations.  Ah, people panic - nothing like it.  And when there is people panic, then they can just raise the gas prices to whatever they feel like.  Of course, I read yesterday, that AT THIS TIME there are NO oil shortages.

Ok lordy!! Those odd and even days.  I sometimes actually slept in my car in the gas station in front of the pumps in order to be first online in the morning to keep from being late to work.

Ah, yes....the house with three sets of dishes:  dairy, meat and traif.  I know it well myself.

Gosh, it's so much easier being a Lutheran....no non-meat days, no fast days, no special plates,   just lots of coffee and keep it coming!!!

Fortunately I filled up the gas tank a couple of days ago (or 30 cents a gallon earlier!)

Thanks, DR Jose, for reminding me of THE SMOTHERS BROTHERS COMEDY HOUR.

Heck, I loved their lame situation comedy show, too which preceded the variety show by a couple of years.

Well. . .I do believe I mentioned Jennifer Warnes in conjunction with the Smothers Brothers.  There was a fascinating article/interview about the show and the brothers recently in FilmFax magazine. . .

I also remember the sit com, it had a catchy theme song. . .

And, yes, we did have runs on gas stations yesterday as gas panic seemed to grip the area. Prices were flying upward, and lines were ten cars deep at pumps.

Reminded me of the oil shortage of the mid-1970s.

AOL news reports your problem:

Quote
"We don't have a shortage of gasoline. We have a delivery problem," said Bill Weatherspoon, executive director of the North Carolina Petroleum Council, which represents major retailers that get gasoline from the pipelines.
...
Although police in Charlotte, N.C., reported prior to daybreak that only 30 of Mecklenburg County's 230 fueling stations were out of gas, that number appeared to grow considerably Thursday as drivers continued to crowd the open stations, fearing a shortage. On some busy streets, stations that did have gas were seeing lines that were causing traffic backups.

Charles Richardson, assistant manager of a gas station in Charlotte, said his was one of the few stations in the city that had received gas since Monday. "We ran out yesterday, but we got a drop this morning," he said.

More on The Smothers Brothers:
In 1968 – at age 21 – Jennifer Warnes joined the cast of the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, a ground-breaking variety show that wore its left-leaning political spirit and love for music with pride.
Robert Stone
In one of her first shows, she performed two songs a capella with Donovan in an episode that was nominated for an Emmy Award.

I remember liking "Your Hit Parade" and Perry Como's show and Dinah Shore's show (brought to us by Chevrolet..as in see the USA in the...mmmwahhh!)

Andy Williams' show was a favorite, too.

I hated/loathed/despised Lawrence Welk.

Blame Myron Floren!

Blame Bobby and Sissy!

Blame the Bossa Nova!

I think it was because I wanted to see whatever programming other networks were playing against it.

Skip got to meet Tom Smothers on a recent trip to California for the centennial of their high school.  They named the one hundred most distinguished graduates of the Redondo Beach High School's first 100 years, and Tom and Dick Smothers were among the Top 100 (as was Skip), and Tom Smothers actually came and spoke, and was apparently very nice.
