I have to say I feel the media, by way of information they were given, seriously underestimated the numbers of people who were left in the city when Katrina hit.

They were evacuating as early as last Friday...and by most accounts I heard, only a few thousands stayed behind for "whatever" reason.

Now, of course, it's clear tens of thousands not only stayed behind but possessed no means of escaping.  Whether it was a lack of vehicle, or lack of money (and with that, nowhere to go), they stayed behind hoping that what little they had would be spared and that they could continue their lives.

Many of them probably work for hourly wages...dependent upon tourist trade and hotels and restaurants...and have large families.

I fear many large cities would find huge chunks of their populations would be left behind in event of evacuations because those people simply don't know where they would go and possess no resources to survive anywhere but where they know best.

I'm appalled, disgusted, disheartened and brokenhearted by all of it.

The horrible thing about this is that a great deal of people went exactly where they were told to go--the Superdome, which has become a deathtrap and a mourge.  This kind of thing is not supposed to happen in America.

tonight i watched one and a half dvds: FRANCIS OF ASSISI starring Bradford Dillman, then BROTHER SUN, SISTER MOON directed by Franco Zeffirelli.  I tuned out of BSSM only because I knew that if I heard Donovan croon one more tune I would have to throw something at the teevee.

anyways, apropos de rein:

The following is something my mom sent me.  I think it's funny and fun.  I've already worked out the "silly names" for several of you, but you each should take a moment or two and work yours out for the fun of it.

Sometimes when you have a stressful day or week, you need some silliness to break up the day. And, if we are honest, we have a lot more stressful days than not.

Follow the instructions to find your new name

 The following is excerpted from a children's book, “Captain Underpants and  the  Perilous Plot of Professor Poopypants“, by Dave Pilkey, in which the evil Professor forces everyone to assume new names.

1. Use the third letter of your first name to determine your new first name:

  a = snickle
  b = doombah
  c = goober
  d = cheesey
  e = crusty
  f = greasy
  g = dumbo
  h = farcus
  i = dorky
  j = doofus
  k = funky
  l = boobie
  m = sleezy
  n = sloopy
  o = fluffy
  p = stinky
  q = slimy
  r = dorfus
  s = snooty
  t = tootsie
  u = dipsy
  v = sneezy
  w = liver
  x = skippy
  y = dinky
  z = zippy

2. Use the second letter of your last name to determine the first half of  your new last name:

  a = dippin
  b = feather
  c = batty
  d = burger
  e = chicken
  f = barffy
  g = lizard
  h = waffle
  i = farkle
  j = monkey
  k = flippin
  l = fricken
  m = bubble
  n = rhino
  o = potty
  p = hamster
  q = buckle
  r = gizzard
  s = lickin
  t = snickle
  u = chuckle
  v = pickle
  w = hubble
  x = dingle
  y = gorilla
  z = girdle

3. Use the third letter of your last name to determine the second half of your new last name:

  a = butt
  b = boob
  c = face
  d = nose
  e = hump
  f = breath
  g = pants
  h = shorts
  i = lips
  j = honker
  k = head
  l = tush
  m = chunks
  n = dunkin
  o = brains
  p = biscuits
  q = toes
  r = doodle
  s = fanny
  t = sniffer
  u = sprinkles
  v = frack
  w = squirt
  x = humperdinck
  y = hiney
  z = juice

For example, mine is "Sloopy Chuckletush."

Do you have the nerve to find your silly name and post it here?  How about you, "Dipsy FarkleChunks"?  Or you, ""Tootsie PottySprinkles"?

Comes singing songs of love,
Then when the Hurdy Gurdy Man
Comes singing songs of love.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang.
Here comes the roly poly man and he's singing songs of love,
Roly poly, roly poly, roly poly, poly he sang.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang,
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang"

What is truly disgusting is that we didn't get the alternate version of the film as shown in Europe with the beautiful score by Riz Ortolani and only a couple of songs by Donovan, neither of which were sung by him.  The movie resonates in its intended form, but the forced "pop" score deprives the film of the beauty and power its director intended.

Sleezy Chucklehump.

Unless you use your real name, Thomas.

Then you're Fluffy Chucklehump.

I truly can't decide which I like better, though....

Well, it's bedtime for Snooty.  I'm recording some demos from 1:00-5:00 tomorrow, and then it's right to Penn Station from there.  But I'll need to pack in the morning, and take care of a few errands before leaving town.  So...

Goodnight.

I wonder if the alternately scored version of BROTHER SUN, SISTER MOON is available on another regionally coded dvd. . .I was truly enjoying the movie, save for Donovan's pipes.
