This got very wide all of a sudden, didn't it?

Well, nothing like cutting it as close as possible - still haven't gotten the call to come pick up the CDs - frankly, if they have to stay until midnight they're finishing this order.

Just got the call I did NOT want - the print is there, but their packaging machine just went down.  So, the Harvey Schmidt will not get packaged today - I am assured it will be ready at ten on Tuesday morning, and I've told them if it isn't, I will not be paying the agreed-upon price - they will have to make a major adjustment.  They won't want to do that, so at ten on Tuesday I'll pack everything up and get it out of here as quickly as I can.  I will ship orders that were just for Stages tomorrow.

Oops (Spoo)! No floor mopping today. I had a surprise visit from a friend who dropped by to vent over a couple of drinks. Too late now (a Burton Lane reference) to do that and have ANY time left over for some DVD watching.

So, it'll get done first thing tomorrow morning.

WBBL (Will Be Back Later) with final words on PIAZZA and some opinions on THE NARROW MARGIN. I'm really looking forward to MARGIN.

Sad news about Dr OzDerek, he will be missed around these parts.  I shall listen to Debra Byrne's CD today which included her recording of "Always" from the musical of the same name in memorandum of Derek.  When I first heard this song out of context, I thought it was about someone dying - and after having heard the song in context of the musical (Always), it still reminds me of someone dying.  I've used in at funerals before.  Anyhow, it's appropriate for today.

I have a cell phone and it's my only phone number for contact.  "Nuff said.

This week was my first week back in the classroom.  So, for the media check, at the moment, I'm enjoying some silence.

Happy birthday wishes to DR Ron.

Thankfully, we have some opportunities left for celebrating inspite of all the sad and alarming news we're getting lately!

DR Derek's saved posts here are a testimony of the fun man he was!

We should all count our blessings today and commiserate.

So, on our cell phone abstinance day, here is my cell phone story du jour:

I'm on Laurel Canyon behind some absolute idiot, driving two miles an hour.  She finally turns right onto Ventura and I can see she's got that assinine phone to her ear, yakking away.  I, too, turn right.  She turns wide, going into the left lane without even looking behind her to see if anyone is there.  I turn right, as one is supposed to, into the right hand lane, but she's already veering back into that lane, cutting me off.  I gave her the horn, quite loudly, and she went back into her own lane.  I then pull up next to her and this bitch is screaming at me and giving me the finger.  In the hand that's giving me the finger, of course, is the cell phone.  I rolled down my window and said at the top of my lungs, "Listen, you wazoo, don't give ME the finger because you're a cretin on a cell phone and you don't look where you're going!"  She continued to give me the finger while her SUV (natch, Gloria, natch) veered from lane to lane.  I noticed the side of her car had a huge dent - gee, I wonder why.  I then suggested she pull over so we could continue our discussion, but she chose to not take me up on my offer.  As soon as she sped away, she was right back on the phone.

And back to cellphones for a sec...

Well, if I had not picked up my cell phone this morning - and I happened to be receiving a call from a cell phone - I would not have been able to have been offered and to accept(!) an amazing job!  Let's just say my Spring is now set, and that it will be spent here in New York City in the pit of a Broadway show!

Needless to say, I am VERY happy right now.

:D

WONDERFUL!!!! I can't wait to hear the details!!! :D

Today I mostly spent in the kitchen preparing a dinner for two New Orleans evacuees, my step-cousin and her husband.  I baked both an apple and a cherry pie; roasted two small eye of rounds; homemade mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli.
Laurel and Jose were transferred (via work) to New Orleans only two weeks ago - they had just settled into their new apartment.  Still they evacuated on Saturday - to Biloxi!  They followed the advice of Jose's employer, and following a night in Biloxi were sent north to Tennessee, then to wherever they normally called "home."  On evacuation from New Orleans, they were only able to take the clothes on their backs and their two cats.  They left behind the furniture which they had just purchased as well as one motorcycle and one truck.  Thankfully, they and their pets survived the deluge, and prepared to face whatever comes their way now.  It looks as if Jose will be transferred to the tri-state area now, so they will happily be nearer to friends and family.

I'm so hungry right now I could eat this laptop.  At seven-thirty I shall be sitting in The Smoke House having garlic cheese bread, perhaps a big bowl of clam chowder, and perhaps some prime rib, although all of that could change except for the garlic cheese bread.

Thank goodness they are safe at least.  Will they be staying with you until they get resettled?

Evening all.

First I would like to express my most sincere condolences to DR OzDerick’s family and friends.

There is  a poem whose title I can’t remember, nor can I remember who wrote it.  I’m sorry but I’m not good with that kind of thing but it does give me comfort.   I hope it brings some small measure of it to the family and friends.

When I am dead, my dearest,
Sing no sad songs for me.
Plant thou no roses at my head
Nor shady cypress tree.
But leave the green grass above me
With showers and dewdrops wet.
And if thou will, remember.
And if thou will, forget.

For I shall not see the shadows,
I shall not feel the rain.
I shall not hear the nightingale
Sing on as if in pain.

But dreaming throughout the twilight,
That doth not rise or set.
Happily I may remember.
And happily may forget.

I will remember you, DR OzDerick.

They will be here in Pittsburgh at least for the month of September; Laurel's stepfather (the one who is my cousin) has an available trailer for her and her husband to stay in.
I don't know if it was cleverness, Jane, that got them out of New Orleans:  they just followed the evacuation order given them.  Me, I'm happy that their cats are with them.   :)

Jose, great news!   Just make sure you are in town on the 5th, October that is.  Speaking of our walking tour, will Arties be open?  I forgot to ask when you mentioned stopping there.

Time for me to say goodnight-even before Danise does. ;D

The NY DAILY NEWS has its own charity set up for hurricane relief. I agree that it is hard to trust some of these organizations, but what can you do?
