Good evening!
I haven't read today's posts - well, the ones since I posted since this morning.. yet... But I did want to post at least once while I was still semi-awake...
What a wonderful way to spend my "day off" -> in rehearsal! Truly, it was.
I started today on a new play by Craig Wright called
Melissa Arctic. It is being presented by the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, DC - what an amazing organization/space/cultural depository. I don't want to give away too much about the play at this point and time, but I will say that:
-It's an adaptation of Shakespeare's
A Winter's Tale.
-It has some music in it - which is why I'm on the team - duh!
-Craig Wright has had his work produced in DC and NYC - among other places. His most recent piece being
Recent Tragic Events, about 9/11. He's also one of the staff writers for HBO's "Six Feet Under".
-It's an amazing cast.
-The whole "vibe" today was very fun and "functional" and open.
-I'm finally working with some of the "other" actors in town - the ones that do primarily straight plays. It's so cool to be working with people I've only read about in articles and reviews.
-And there is definitely a sense of magic in the air.

I feel so fortunate to be a part of the process - and I'm basically just helping out the first two weeks of rehearsals as the assistant musical director. And I'll be the "understudy" musician during the run.
But, really, it was an unexpected treat, pleasure and privilege to be in that rehearsal hall today. Yes, I will have some long days ahead of me this week with rehearsals during the day and a show at night, but I have a feeling one process will just energize the other!
If any DRs want to check it out, the website for the Folger is
http://www.folger.edu. You'll find all the links to all their programs, including the theatre - and the play.
OH! And I have a date for New Year's Eve!!!
