Well, you've read the notes, the notes were salted, hence they were Salted Notes, and now it is time for you to post until the Salted Cows come home.

And a very happy haineshisway.com birthday for former dear reader Maya - who just up and disappeared one fine day, even though she continues to post elsewhere.  We hope she has a wonderful day and that she is well.

Hello, everyone.

Hmmm.....I bought several CD's this year, but they might not have been released this year!  LOL.

But some of my favorites are:

DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS - OBC
DREAMGIRLS - OBC
DORIS DAY the 1960's SINGLES
ALEXANDER - soundtrack
DARK SHADOWS - three music CD's

DRMBARNUM thanks for the Johnny Duncan site.  Very interesting.

Here it is December 29, and DRGEORGE and DRJOSE have already spent ALL their Christmas money.  It burned a hole right through their pockets!!

What a strange thing to have ALL the lights removed from the theatre - for no reason.  The meeting will be interesting.  And why would it be suggested that the shoot take place somewhere else?  Does this person NOT have a script?

Yesterday was spent ladsitting.  Yes, the entire day.

Today I'll be back at work.  It will be much quieter.

We have a new word for my out-of-stepdaughter.  It is "harridan."

Enough about yesterday.  Time to move on.

Good morning, all!  Nothing much to report here.  I've been listening to Christmas recordings by Jo Stafford and Pat Boone, working on taxes, and trying to finish this chart for Ron Raines.  I have to finish it today, but I'm still waiting to hear from his copyist about beginning the copy work.

TOD:
  New Guy in Town
  Coffee House (Susan Egan)
  Spamalot
  The Last Starfighter
The Beggar's Opera (English Opera Group broadcast, 1948)
The Mines of Sulphur (Richard Rodney Bennett)
  Ravel: complete chamber music
  Peter Pan (Leonard Bernstein score)
Ron Raines: So In Love With Broadway
  Rebecca Luker: Leaving Home
Ethel Merman: The World is Your Balloon

Hmmmm....I bought a lot of CDs this year, but most of them were not new releases. Of those that were new releases here are some of my favorites:

NEW GUY IN TOWN
KAAL soundtrack
BEST OF THE DOVELLS

Those are the only ones I can think of right now that I know were released in 2005...if I were at home where I could see my stacks of CDs then my list would likely be longer.

Good Morning!

Left for the airport at 6:30... My brother is on his way back to San Diego.  Thankfully, the crappy weather this morning didn't cause any flight delays.

Then it was off to the Heidelberg and Balducci's... (hint, hint DR Jane)...

Then to the post office...

And now I'm just packing up some stuff and getting some other mail ready before I head back to the post office.  (hint, hint DR Jane)...

Then I need to run to the bank and Trader Joe's...  Then back here for a workout and a nap - although not necessarily in that order.  ;)

Well, I best finish my puttering...  I'll post my list...

Laters...

Sort of TOD, and going against what I just wrote, we took the grandlads to Best Buy because they each had a gift card to let them pick out some music.

Alex picked out a CD by Toby Keith called Shock'n Y'all.  I think it was deliberate on his part, because his father cannot stand Country music (because his father loves it) and because his mother would be upset by some of the lyrics.  Hey, the first song on the disc is I Love This Bar.  Der Brucer didn't know what he was helping to perpetuate.

William, far less rebellious, picked out a DVD of old Casper cartoons.

I, meanwhile, spotted a recent release by Elton John, Peachtree Road.  It's very Southern influenced, and quite enjoyable.  Not much hard-rockin', more thoughtful than he was as a kid.  And Taupin's lyrics are as good if not better than they've ever been.

One movie I'm definitely going to re-watch today is TOY STORY 2. No, I didn't buy the new re-release. The original one has a purely digital transfer and Dolby Digital-EX sound. No way I'm going to double dip on a title that has that going for it.

But I haven't seen it in awhile, and certainly not on my latest TV, so I'm looking forward to watching it this afternoon.

EVerything on TV tonight is reruns, and I'll have to check to see if tonight's SUPERNATURAL (which the WB has been running almost every night this week) is the one episode which I missed of the first run shows that have aired. The little blurb in the newspaper didn't give enough information.

Otherwise, I'll be DVDing it again tonight along with watching the repeat CSI, a show which plays just as well the second time around.

First, I enjoyed the cast CDs of the four wonderful musicals that opened this past season: DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS, SPELLING BEE, LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, and SPAMALOT. Of those four, SCOUNDRELS was my favorite CD (even though I enjoyed SPELLING BEE more as a show).

This year, I have discovered the amazing Rhino issues of MGM musical soundtracks, and I have been buying them slowly to complete my collection. They may not be new to 2005, but they're new to me, and I loved SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS, BRIGADOON, THREE LITTLE WORDS, LOVELY TO LOOK AT, and HIT THE DECK among others.

I still have SILK STOCKINGS and DUBARRY WAS A LADY to listen to; these got pushed back when CHristmas happened and I started playing CHristmas music around the house. That's all put away and I'll start back with them presently.

I have the SONDHEIM SINGS CDs but haven't gotten to them yet. I also bought some reissues of things like A FAMILY AFFAIR that I haven't found the time for. But I'll get to them eventually.

Last night I watched two television shows that I don't normally watch.  The first was CRIMINAL MINDS (with Mandy Patinkin).  I enjoyed this show very much and I love Shemar Moore.

The second was CSI NY.  I really don't care for this show too much.  I miss the interpersonal relationships that are so well crafted on most of the shows I watch.  There is just such a differenc to me between a show like MEDIUM vs CSI NY.  They both solve cases.  But on MEDIUM we get to see her family and her friendships with those she works with.

DR MattH if you ever want to know what is going to be on the WB, just go to their website (thewb.com).  Tonight's Supernatural says:

9/8c  Supernatural
It's a race against time when the brothers discover a treacherous identity-robbing shapeshifter is about to take over Dean's identity.

If you like CRIMINAL MINDS (I don't), another episode is being shown tonight on CBS in the SURVIVOR time slot.

MEDIUM and the CSIs are apples and oranges. Yes, they're both mystery-based shows, but the latter show is a procedural with emphasis on intellectual and scientific investigation. More often than not, personalities don't get in the way of the evidence in these shows. There have been concessions on CSI: MIAMI and CSI: NY to begin (very lightly) adding a bit of character development to go along with the evidence gathering and mystery solving. But they don't pretend to be character based shows and shouldn't be denegrated for that. (Of course, you weren't denegrating them; you were simply stating a preference.)

I find I can enjoy both for what they are.

Thanks. Again, I believe I've seen that one. However, the one I missed had something to do with an identity-robbing creature, too, I think. I tore the page out of TV GUIDE the week I missed it to remind me what the plot was. Now, I just have to put my hands on it.
