If Cavett's listening that closely to his guests, it must be because he's searching for a way to connect what's being said to an anecdote about himself.  He just comes off seeming more fascinated by himself than his guest.

Spotted Dick is a custard, I believe, with raisins.

I was in cornwall on business years ago and a coworker of mine kept ordering it so he could say 'spotted dick'. It just amazed him that he could say that and not be given dirty looks.

Very nice  blurbs, Bruce. (Somehow that sounds mildly obscene...)

Just got the bill for DD's minor surgery and one night hospital stay last month. North of $20,000.00! That's on top of about $8000. of other doctors' bills related to the surgery. Luckily I'm insured through the WGA and she is on my insurance. How do people without insurance survive in this country???

Me... I'm a software engineer.  I'm a mother of two fab daughters (7 and 5).  

My interests are wide and varied - I love good movies, good theater - I enjoy exercise and am currently learning how to indoor rock (wall) climb.  

One of my favorite authors is Lois McMaster Bujold (I really got into her Vorkosigan series)

One favorite movie is Office Space

I am a huge fan of anything Joss Whedon does.

I also loved watching Matt Ashford in DOOL - but really only during the 87-91 timeframe when he was given a lot of creative license in how his character developed.  Once the writers started messing with the integrity of the characterization of his character on the show, I just couldn't watch, despite his excellent acting.

I was fortunate to meet him at the JDRF charity event in burlington, MA,  where I proceeded to become extremely tongue tied and awkward.
