So, DR Ron, you got your FORBIDDEN PLANET today? I read a review that said the Robby the Robot miniature included in that collector's set is very detailed.

I am really looking forward to seeing the film with the advances in DVD encoding technologies that have taken place since the original disc was released.

Tuesday greetings!

Did DRGINNY have to go back to work today?  Or is she recovering from DH RICHARD's birthday blow out?

Yes, DR JRand, I had to come back to work today, on a 12noon-9pm schedule.  Had a meeting right at noon and then had to spend the afternoon getting ready for the grantseeking basics workshop that I'm teaching from 5:30-8:30 this evening.

As for DH Richard's birthday bash - our dinner at Montgomery Inn was yummilicious, as usual, and we topped it off with Graeter's raspberry chip ice cream.  I was awake for a couple of hours in the middle of the night with awful heartburn.

DR CILLALIZ,
Can you give us a brief critique of the Roomba yet? (apart from kitty litter)
(sorry, if you've already done so, I must have missed it)

I've used it several times. It does a pretty good job, but I wouldn't use it as your only vacuum cleaner. It's great zooming under the bed and has provided great entertainment for me, two cats and Paul.  (Note to self - get a life)

It doesn't have a pattern but seems to get most everywhere. I think that's what fascinates me, it just sort of goes where it wants to and eventually gets everywhere.  It did get caught up on things a few times and the last time I used it the charge didn't last very long.  So the jury is still out.  It is pretty cool when it detects dirt and does circles trying to pick it up.

I have a carpet in my living room that has black lines on it. They aren't raised, but the Roomba treats them like they are boundaries of some sort. That was a bit weird.

I think it would be wonderful for someone who can't get around very well.  I'm considering ordering one for my mother for Christmas. She shouldn't be vacuuming, but try to stop her, lol. She has help cleaning once a week, so this would be perfect if she has company coming and just wants to clean up a bit.  Mine is the basic model. The more advanced models will actually go back to the charging station and plug themselves in when they are running low on batteries. Mine just stops.

I'll use it for a couple more weeks and give you an update.

I've had box 4 of the Warners cartoons for three weeks - unopened, as are the first three boxes, just like MattH.

My Forbidden Planet is waiting for me, so I'm on my way to pick it up and then I shall be on my way to rehearsal, which will go until ten o'clock this evening.

Many years ago, a friend in LA had a dog who would use the shower if he wasn't able to get out. I don't think he was specifically trained to do this, either. Any animal trainers out there who know how to train cats? Oh! Maybe that's the problem: "training cats." Cats do tend to do what they want. Oh, well. Just an idea.

Cats aren't hard to train, you just have to make them think it was their idea to do it

Those mats are good conceptually, but too small. I am going to go to Canal Street where you can find all kinds of textile stuff because I want to find a large rubber floor mat with holes in it, the kind that would be on the floor in a factory or something.

A lot of bars use those mats behind the bar

Actually, Tom, it might be because I'm a registered user and that link has a cookie.  Try this:

Then look at the left hand side under "15 most recent threads."  The one you want is at the top, the Festival for Lani.  It is just priceless if you're in the right frame of mind.  ;)

Ah....you both can watch The Robot Client episode of The Thin Man!!!  And see Phyllis Kirk struggling in the grip of the robot while wearing a dress that Helen Rose designed for Sandra Dee in THE RELUCTANT DEBUTANTE.

Cillaliz-The recipe book is a wonderful idea.  If only I had a copy of my mother’s recipes.  She was such a great cook.  Most of all I want her dark English fruit cake she made every summer to serve at Christmas.

I like this one from Fred “IF YOU PLAN, YOU CAN COOK LIKE JOANN”

Good morning!  FJL and Tomovoz, thanks for the great suggestions. Right now I'm leaning toward  "To Stir With Love, Recipe's from Joan's Kitchen"
I think everyone I'm giving it to would get the pun

Rodzinsky & TPunk-If you want dust free kitty litter try various non-clay litters.  Clay litter isn’t good for cats anyway as the dust can cause lung problems.  We found out the hard way.  :'(

I haven’t researched the best litters, that will be for our next cat, if there is one.  First I need to get through the puppy stage.

Speaking of the puppy, I had better play with him before he shreds my jeans.

Thanks  for the mail JMK. When will Puppet Theatre and Lani's Castle make its debut in Portland?  Michael Barnum would love it.

Good afternoon DRs one and all --

And a good afternoon to Esteemed BK this lovely Friday...errr -- Tuesday afternoon.

I thought that I'd mention that I ran into the "too many connections" thing for the first time this morning around 8:30 AM MST.  This is the first time for me, and I kept trying over a span of about 10 minutes, and then finally gave up.  I know it isn't my own server or computer, as I'm on a cable modem system here at home and have no trouble with speed.

Well, at least the computer doesn't have any trouble with speed.

....and we are graced by the ever charming MBarnum this afternoon.

It looks like our HHW breakfast bash is pulling together for around 10:30 in the morning on Saturday, Dec. 9th.  How many H/Ks are planning on being in the L.A. area for the opening weekend of The Brain?

I know about Michael B. & elmoore, but not sure about which other hainsies have said they were planning on going to L.A. .

Try to make your plans known, so we can plan accordingly for a big festive table.  You know, cheese slices and ham chunks don't just appear from nowhere.

Good Morning!
Good Afternoon!
Good Evening!

Good Morning!
Good Day!

Etc., etc., etc.

In other words...

I'm OK.

I'm alive and well and making a living in D.C.  And busy.

Cabaret has faded into the mists, and She Loves Me is on the horizon.  -We have our first preview this Friday.

Oh!  And as of this past Saturday, I am officially the godfather of my niece, Emily.  -And she still makes me cry when I look at her and hold her - beatific innocence.

I shall return...

And once I get the stitches out of my left thumb in the morning.... -Yep, four of 'em!*

Laters...

*How's that for a teaser.
