I'll try and remember to send over a CD of nearly all the songs from the movie JRand. The soundtrack LP only had about half!

Helen was amazingly popular in England but had little stage presence I believe.  She has the honour (!!) of being the most reported/rumour dead singer in the UK.

Exaggerated I hope.  Well yes, she did seem a bit on the staid side.

Would love to have the CD....some of those novelty songs were great.  And ALL of the musicians who were smoking while they were playing or singing....whew!   :P

It seems you do have a French Champagne, MR BK.  Although the Veuve Cliquot is the more common champagne....

I do have some neat schoolbooks from the 1860s and 1870s. The oldest book in my collection is a geography book from 1860.

Dakota, I am surprised your teachers didn't make you give them back at the end of the semester.

I have had my New Year's Rockin' Eve meal of three turkey sandwiches (spread out over the last five hours), cole slaw, and a cookie.  I am done with food for the rest of the evening, but I shall be drinking like a fish - Diet Coke, pink lemonade, cranraspberry, and Veuve Verney at midnight (one sip only, just to be in the spirit of things, as it were).

Helen Shapiro had 5 top 10 hits (including 2 #1) and was voted the UK's top female singer before she was 16.

JRand - Yvonne deCarlo Glare - it sounds like a special kind of eye makeup.

That was someone else who made Yvonne glare.  I suggested that the glare might have been understandable because the fan was trying to explain to Yvonne why the house in which she had just done Hello Dolly was only a quarter full.  The fan meant to be consoling to Yvonne, but I thought that by explaining the small house to her, he was just risking making her feel worse about it.  But while she glared, she did sign an autograph for the fan.  A couple of people thought Yvonne should have been more gracious.
