Castleberry Hill restaurant steps up competition for Mexican food in Atlanta

Open since August next to the No Mas! decor showroom, No Mas! Cantina is located in the growing Castleberry Hill district near downtown. Both the new businesses are offshoots of No Mas! Productions, an Atlanta home decorating store that began selling Mexican handicrafts and furniture in 1996 on Huff Road.

At the Cantina, everything is on the menu — including the artwork, furnishings and the blown glass barware. If you unexpectedly fall in love with a tall margarita pitcher, it is satisfying to know you can take it home.

But at any restaurant, quality food and service is crucial to ongoing success. No Mas! Cantina distinguishes itself from the myriad of ho-hum Mexican restaurants in Atlanta by offering fresh, authentic Mexican food at reasonable prices.

It's pretty quiet here at the office today. One person stopped in and commented on my "new" painting on the wall.  I put it up in October.  I wish I had been a fly on the wall yesterday after I left.  It's a totally different place today

Good for you! I'm curious to hear how things go.

We interrupt this lyric montage to say that "The Closer" will be back in mid-June, and I will be on it for another season. Yay!

Hooray! Hurrah!!

Wonderful news on both counts!

NEW YORK OFFICIALS SAY NEW JERSEY MAY BE TO BLAME FOR MANHATTAN STINK
Quote
NEW YORK —  The gas-like odor that hung over Manhattan's streets was gone Tuesday, but city officials were still trying to pinpoint its source — and eyeing New Jersey.

Charles Sturcken, a spokesman for the city Department of Environmental Protection, said Tuesday that his agency was pretty sure the source of the smell was along New Jersey's industrialized waterfront, just across the Hudson River from New York.

"The way we tracked the dispersion of the smell and the prevailing winds indicates that it came from New Jersey, somewhere near Secaucus," Sturcken said.

Lunch ran long and I had several phone calls, so I only got one movie watched this afternoon - NANNY MCPHEE.

It was pretty much what I expected plot-wise, and I did enjoy it despite its predictability.

I appreciated the running time of a little over 90 minutes, perfect for this kind of fantasy. The fabulous production design looked astonishing in high definition over HBO-HD. Had the same three dimensional look you get with the best HD DVDs with colors that seemingly pop from the screen. (Similar to CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY once they all get inside.)

The cast including Emma Thompson, Colin Firth, and Angela Lansbury was delightful.

No, not a great fantasy, but a pleasurable 96 minutes.

Coincidentally, what should be playing on one of the HBO channels once I deleted NANNY from the DVR but CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, so I spent the last half hour of my viewing afternoon enjoying it again.

I have the DVD so can watch the entire film whenever I want, but it was nice catching a part of it. Might watch it again at some point this week if I can squeeze it in.

My next Blu-ray discs did not come in the mail today, so tonight, I'll be watching THE MATADOR, or at least as much as I can get to before 9 p.m.

I missed most of it but I happened to be changing the channels when I came across a L&S show.  Imagine my suprise when I saw "The Organist"!

I grabbed my trusty camera and begain taking pictures.  Some didn't turn out (that black line that goes through the pictures) but when I switched to the sports mode I caught a couple of good ones.

Thank you, DR George.  Tivo helped some.  I was able to back up a little freeze the frame so I could get a shot or two.

Off to clean the living room now, and then will read some more in the Cukor biography. Then, back to THE MATADOR.
