Joan is a belter's belter - when I work with her, I don't allow everything to be belted, which is why her CD is good.  If you want to hear her voice - go to www.kritzerland.com

...And the "sad" part, is that she actually knew the words during the dress rehearsal.

However, my "favorite" Capitol Fourth moment was when Patti LuPone was singing and Henry Mancini was conducting.  Well, Mr. Mancini started the song off a bit slow...  And the look on Ms. LuPone's face...  YIKES!

I got a walker for my 50th birthday and put it away for future use.

Is it common practice to NOT know a song you are singing on live television and just trust that the telepromptors will be there?

DR Derbrucer, I heard that Snickers pulled their Super Bowl ad since there were some objections.

There was even more objections to their web site where they posted alternative endings for the ad. (All have been pulled)

SOUTHERN VOICE

Quote
The ad then directed viewers to a website to pick from three other alternative endings with the most popular pick to air during the Daytona 500 race on Feb. 18.

The alternate endings to select from, instead of ripping out chest hair, were: 1) the men drinking motor oil; 2) beating each other up with a wrench and the hood of the car; 3) or a third mechanic stepping between them, flipping his hair, and asking, "Is there room for three on this love boat?"

The website also included negative reaction from several players from the Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Bears as they viewed the commercial.

The Human Rights Campaign issued a statement Monday decrying Snickers for what it deemed an anti-gay message as well as condoning gay bashing.

help put them in touch with any number of GLBT Americans who have suffered hate crimes,” said HRC President Joe Solmonese.

"Is Snickers suggesting that people who eat their candy bars are cavemen?  It's an odd market to court, particularly after the Isaiah Washington flap a couple weeks ago, which clearly showed that there's a strong distaste out there for people who portray themselves as anti-gay or holding on to old prejudices and stereotypes,” he added.

But Cyd Zeigler of Outsports.com, a gay sports website, said the reaction by groups like HRC has been over the top.

“I watched the Super Bowl with about 30 gay men and when the ad aired, people laughed,” he said. “There are so many bigger issues than fighting a candy bar ad. A lot of people like me thought the ad was making fun of straight guys because of the idiotic and stupid things they’ll do to say they are manly.”

When I woke up this morning it was 7 degrees outside, with a wind chill of -5. BRRRR!!!

I am now wearing so many layers that I could fall over and not get hurt.

WOOL longjohns (the ones I never wear)
Black cords
2 pair of socks
White cotton turtleneck
Heavy LLBean grey marl pullover
Boiled wool German clogs

And when I go out I'll be adding my Canadian alpaca coat, scarf, lined gloves, and earmuffs. Will this California girl ever completely acclimate to cold weather???

Where are you Jeanne?

We finally got above zero here for the first time in nearly a week!

Haggard Now "Completely Heterosexual"
Feb 6, 9:53 AM (ET)

DENVER (AP) - One of four ministers who oversaw three weeks of intensive counseling for the Rev. Ted Haggard said the disgraced minister emerged convinced that he is "completely heterosexual."

Haggard also said his sexual contact with men was limited to the former male prostitute who came forward with sexual allegations, the Rev. Tim Ralph of Larkspur told The Denver Post for a story in Tuesday's edition.

"He is completely heterosexual," Ralph said. "That is something he discovered. It was the acting-out situations where things took place. It wasn't a constant thing."

The great Duke Ellington vocalist, Al Hibbler, had a chart topper version in 1955!

OracleBand

Harry Belafonte sang it at the 1956 Academy Awards.

My favorite is the Lettermen version of 1962

der Brucer

David Letterman was a singer in 1962??  Who knew?

Just getting rid of the jewelcases makes a HUGE difference in my small condo.  I shall soon be able to rid myself of my CD shelves...one holds 575, another holds 1,000 and two others are rotatable and hold about 750 CDs/DVDs each.

SPACE HOGS, all of them.

I think I'm really going to have to look into something like this.  As much as I love having all my CDs out on shelves, I know I don't have enough room for them all. :-\

Bernard Mellowmood is one of my favorite writers.

I'm still trying to develop a list for the TOD, but "My Guy" is one of my all-time favorites; does that count as 1960's?

"My Guy" is good, but I always preferred another Mary Wells song, also one of my fav sixties tunes:  "You Beat Me To The Punch".

I rather liked that version of "June is Bustin' Out All Over" with the new lyrics. They were quite original.

I keep hoping and hoping that when somebody puts the music for "June Is Bustin' Out All Over" in front of me at an audition, that they will do Ms. Uggams version.  ;)

-Although, I've heard many others songs "Uggams-ized" from time to time.

60s songs....

Here comes the sun - Beatles
Crazy - Patsy Cline
Scarborough Fair - Simon and Garfunkle
Bridge of Troubled Waters - Simon and Garfunkle
He's My Brother - The Hollies
Yesterday - The Beatles
Unchained Melody - Kingston Trio??
Book of Love--
Downtown - Petula Clark
Twist and Shout - not sure who sang the original for it has had innumberable covers

I can think of other songs I like but I am not sure if they are from the 1960s or 1970s. Love the Bee Gees.

Couple of honorable mentions becuase they are fun
