Found an amazon.com box in my inbox after lunch.

"On the Riviera", "Can-Can" and "Ball of Fire" were waiting for me.

"Apocalypto" is SUPPOSED to be out for delivery, but it didn't make the morning run.

I can still hope for the afternoon run.

Jordin lives here in the Phoenix area -- across town in Glendale.

That's all.

I am noticing that the old towel bars that I took down when I painted the bathroom are worn and ugly.

That's just WRONG.  Cake is supposed to be enticing.

That cake would gag a maggot.

But the party theme is "That's Gross!", I think the cake qualifies.

Der Brucer - What was I thinking?  I had  a brain fart that Manchester had written the lyric to that one.  For cryin' out loud.

Back from a nice lunch and a little trading session at Amoeba.  Then I went to the mail place to pick up my DVD of Can Can, only it wasn't there.  So, I had to call amazon a few minutes ago - three times in a row I was put through to India and I refused to talk to those people.  Then I finally got someone in the US - if I were amazon, I would simply stop doing business with UPS because this business of amazon setting a pickup then having UPS not pick it up or lose it is reprehensible.  The tracking info says "carrier notified to pick up package" even though I received a notice that it had shipped yesterday for today delivery.  So, they now have to credit me the overnight charge of 3.99 and ship out another overnight copy to get here tomorrow.  I was all set to watch that this evening - instead, I'll have to switch gears and get in the mood for something else.

FJL - I still associate "Don't Cry Out Loud" with the Melissa Manchester version.

Der B - BTW, have I mentioned that the music and lyrics to the song "You Can't Surprise Me" in FRIENDS AND FAMILY were written by Skip Kennon?  :)

You mean the "Skip", who used to be "Walter" (and, who knows, may someday be "Wendy")?

der Brucer

PS Didn't he pick-up with some Jewish kid for later lyric work?

Anyway, it seems that a random glance at imdb suggests that the person who does the full underscore for a film, even when other people wrote the songs, can be entitled to the "original music by" credit, at least on imdb.  We're at least going to try to get the info that Skip wrote the song on the imdb by submitting it as an update.

As to the movie's website, we'll figure out what to do after Skip's agent no longer has her mind involved with HERRINGBONE at Williamstown.

I keep meaning to mention something about how music is credited in movies, but I'm still a bit nap-deprived to say anything coherent.  In any case...

"Original Songs" usually fall under the "Music From..." category, rather than the "Soundtrack of..." one.

I guess I'm thinking of that David Friedman song that appears over the credits of the "Trick".  That's definitely a "Song from..." rather than part of the "Soundtrack of..."

Or something like that.  ???

I guess as long as no one else is claiming credit for the song Skip/Waler wrote, well, then that's a good start.

Der Brucer - He's writing music on a new project to lyrics by a nice Jewish lady named Ellen Schwartz, and he wrote music a year ago to a musical with lyrics by Eduardo Machado (I don't think Eduardo is Jewish), but for the most part especially in recent years, Skip's been writing his own lyrics.

Jose - If you go to this site AND THEN click on MUSIC, that seems to be what's confusing, as TCB pointed out.  The songs are not credited to any writer, and then the page mentions the score.

Heck, even Grand Hotel had two different vocal selections published due to the different writers (and their publishers).

Well... I don't see any of the songs listed, and I'm guessing there were some "popular" songs used here and there in the back- and/or foreground.

-I'm sorry, I haven't seen the movie...  But as long as the proper credits are listed in the actual movie credits, well, that's all that contractually required (in most cases).
