Wow, I"m behind on reading yesterday's posts!

Btw, for anyone here who is still watching ON THE LOT, apparently it is now only going to be on once a week (tuesdays). So no show tonight.

TOD: In high school I took shorthand, which was the only time I excelled in anything. Of course, it is obsolete now.

That just gave me the biggest laugh in weeks! I am still chuckling  :D  :D  :D

As for the Topic of Day...

Fifth Grade - Mrs. Wallace and Mr. Kennedy.  But mainly Mrs. Wallace.  She just made me want to learn everything.  And since it was just a fifth grade class, she did teach everything.  I even wrote to her when I was in high school thanking her for being such a great teacher.  Mr. Kennedy was the other fifth grade teacher and he would sometimes take over the science and history sections.  He also lived on a cool "estate", and I still remember a field trip to his "estate".  It was sort of like a Colonial Days outing.  We cooked food.  We made lye soap - well the teachers made the lye soap (fifth graders and lye.. ).  And I also remember digging up a wagon wheel in his yard - he lived on some historical land.  Now that was cool!

My Junior and Senior English teachers in high school - Mrs. Kamerrer and Mr. Johnson.  Just cool people, and they taught more than just English.  Mr. Johnson was particularly colorful.  He used to work as a night attendant at St. Elizabeth's hospital, and he would share some of the funnier and sometimes dark incidents from his time in the psych ward.  And since he taught "fast", we would spent the last week of each semester just watching movies: "Casablanca", "Vertigo", and some Three Stooges shorts.  :)

As for college, my Song Literature Class taught by Melanie Kohn-Day (now just back to Melanie Kohn).  It was primarily a class for the Vocal Majors, but since I was doing a lot of accompanying and singing as well (I was a Vocal Minor), I was allowed to take the class. And since the class was actually a performance-based class, I was able to participate as both a pianist and a singer.  Melanie was a truly passionate teacher - and she was truly passionate for Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau! ;).  Her breadth of knowledge was always astounding but never intimidating.  Anytime we were scheduled to perform - basically as "live examples" - we would have an individual coaching or two with her before presenting the song in class.  I learned some great accompanying secrets - cheats - from her, and she also was an additional help to me with my foreign language diction.  Whenever I would play for the class, I would end up playing for someone else in the class.  However, when I would sing in the class, she would play for me.  And that was always a very safe and comforting and sympathetic feeling, partnership.

DR elmore - It looks like I'm going to go ahead and head back up to NYC tomorrow, probably on the 11:00am train.  So I should be back in the immediate area ready for abuse by 3:00.

The most rewarding classes I took would be the social studies courses I took in Jr High (Scenic Jr. High in Central Point, Oregon). Each class I took studied a different part of the world and there was a class on WW1 and one on WW2.

BK, I was also completely unaware of this kiddie show host documentary...when did you do it? I adore Tony Dow also, and had a wonderful time interviewing him last year.

DR ShinDing - John Lennon wrote "Get Back" for DR Jose.

DR JoseSPiano - have you tried the new "street view" in Google maps to see what your neighborhood/building look like, up close and personal?

Also...

Is "Uncle Jojo" pronounced "Uncle Hoho"?   :)

Yeah, that street view is cool... and provides hours of "entertainment" in the green room while waiting for the break to end.  ;)

As for Uncle "Jojo"... It goes through phases...

"Do-Do"

"Go-Go"

"Yo-Yo"

and, then, eventually, [djo-djo] - which an approximation of the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) for how my nickname is pronounced.

bk - Stay hydrated and eat some potato chips: the salt helps to keep your salivary glands going, and the oil helps to keep things lubricated.

Weekday Heroes was shot in 1984, I think.  Hard to believe that's almost twenty-five years ago!  It featured three hosts - Chucko the Clown, Engineer Bill, and Sheriff John.  We found all three, got them to come in and do extensive interviews and it was just a great, sweet show.  It aired on KABC twice, and then the rights became mine.  The big problem is that my one-inch master seems to have gone missing.  I've found something that might be a sub-master, but I don't know what that means and I have to run it.  If not, I have a three-quarter inch tape, but I also haven't seen that recently either.  So, I have to go back into storage and find that.

Well, I think it's time for me to venture to the mall.  -There's a DMV branch there.  I'm gonna go ahead and get a duplicate title now in order to save me the stress of "I thought it was in this box?!?!?!?".  ;)

DR Laura:

AVENUE Q has long since packed up and moved out of Vegas, so keep an eye out for a tour in your area. It's coming here this next toruing season.

It's en route to San Francisco.

Should be here in late July-early August.

I shall probably give a performance to myself for my birthday.

In my day it was John Stamos, Rick Springfield, Patrick Swayze, and members of what was called the brat pack that included Charlie Sheen, Emilio Estevez, Rob Morrow, Judd Nelson and a couple of others that I am forgetting

Rob Morrow?

ROB MORROW?

Rob Lowe, I could understand, since he WAS a member of the brat pack.

No such appellation was ever applied to "rob morrow" that I can recall.  He appeared in a few very cheesy "comedies" in which his only acting technique was to smile at everything.  All teeth, no talent.

Now he's refined his "acting" to well-rehearsed poses, sneers and attitudinizing.

Rob Morrow, indeed!

A two week summer workshop I did singing in a chorus conducted by Robert Shaw.  The man was amazing and a total inspiration.  I've never met anyone with so much charisma.  He WILLED the forces to perform EXACTLY what he heard in his head, and to WANT to give him 200 percent.  He also had an internal metronome - it was quite astonishing.

DR Drawstring, I am very familiar with Shaw and sang under him, so to speak, many times when I was at the University of GA and he was the conductor of the ASO. He was really amazing and I loved it when he would come to conduct our choir. He really knew how to whip us into shape quickly!

I always used to go to the symphony when I could afford it. When I couldn't, friends in the orchestra would sneak me in to rehearsals.

The one thing I learned was not to sit on the front row, because he would fling sweat all over you!

Poor Paris Hilton, the world's stupidest celebutramp goes to the Hoosegow today.

Now that she's out of commission, I wonder what current bimbo ho will replace her?
