..I want to be there when DR MusicGuy stands up and yells "Underpants!" in an eatery ...

As we were leaving, he stood and announced: "They pee inside now."

I am going to run errands now. I am very frustrated with the fact that some folks are not responding to me when I ask for their approval for the minutes that I sent them last November. And in May. And twice in June. My deadline is tomorrow, they know it, and yet they don't respond.

I am sure by the time I get back, I will have a response in my inbox. I am certain of it.

Charming.

Was there any reaction from other patrons?

BK - more on language in young adult books.  I just had a chat with our YA Specialist, who said it's more of an issue in school libraries than in public libraries.  And, it's less of an issue if the words in question are contextual.  The big 3 issues in YA selection are language, sexual content, and violence and anytime any of those are gratuitous, there's a chance that a book would be excluded.

Last night, I watched my HD DVD of "Field of Dreams".

There were some stunning moments, visually, and some ordinary ones.  HD DVD isn't 100% effective when applied to older movies.

The film, however, remains one of my few very favorites.  As much as it expects leaps of faith and and a willingness to suspend disbelief, it remains an emotionally gutwrenching film for me.

I cry like a baby....and it seems the more often I see it, the earlier I feel the tears start to come.

I LOVE this movie beyond reason, I guess.  But I DO love it, nonetheless.

DR MBarnum - It sounds like your DVR may be full, and may have started recording over some of your existing episodes to make room for the "new" ones.  -Is that possible?

Well, it has only been at about 60 % full so I don't think that could be it, and no other programs are disappearing. I think the machine is just rejecting the thought of Bat Masterson...or Allison Hayes  :-[

DR MBarnum:

Doesn't your Tivo have an option to save shows unless you manually delete them? My DVR certainly does. I still have the Winter Olympics ladies short and long programs on mine from February 2006. I keep meaning to dub the performances I want to a DVD, but I never seem to get around to it.

It does and I made sure to set it to that option when taping Bat Masterson...we shall see if that helps.

Interesting information re libraries - I'll let some people in the know read it and see what the consensus is - as I said, I didn't pander to a demographic (like the current Nancy Drew film), I just wrote the book I wanted to write.  But isn't S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders somewhat raw for that age group?

I don't much know from surreal films...I think...although some would consider most of the films that I watch as surreal...or maybe that it is surreal that I would watch them. Whatever. Anyway, BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS is the only overtly surreal film I can think of that I liked a lot.

With regards to the case of the missing Bat Mastersons I guess I will just burn them to DVR as I accumulate 4 episodes...I had wanted to try to get the remaining 2 or 3 Allison Hayes episodes on one DVDr, but I will just put one episode on the disc and she can share space with Kathleen Crowely, Yvette Vickers, and Gloria Talbott episodes. I don't think she would mind.

Yes, and The Outsiders is #43 on the American Library Association's 100 Most Frequently Challenged Books of 1990-2000.

For more than you might ever want to know on this issue, see ALA's Banned Books Week page.

When  I was a freshman in college, I saw Antonioni's L'AVENTURRA. I had never seen anything like it. I was amazed and befuddled. That film and SANSHO THE BAILIFF(which also amazed me) I have avoided watching on TV/DVD because I'm afraid that they won't live up to my memory of them. Books usuallly deepen with a re-read, but I have't always found that the casl tih movies.

*I'd also be more than happy to print out a "Best Of/Must See/Must Eat Guide" for anyone who would like to venture out on their own.

DR Jose, can you send me one? Greg's sister is going up to NY on Thursday and will be staying in the Broadway area @43rd. She and her husband are going to see SPAMALOT but don't have many plans beyond that.

Thanks!

TNT's Season 3 Premiere of THE CLOSER is BEST OF ALL TIME

With more than 8.8 million viewers and 6.3 million households, TNT's THE CLOSER once again broke its own record by scoring ad-supported cable's best delivery of all time for a series telecast.

Last night's third-season premiere averaged 8,812,000 persons 2+ and 6,376,000 households, beating the same records THE CLOSER set with its season 2 premiere last year.

This year's premiere as 4% higher among persons 2+ vs. last year's 8,499,000 delivery and 3% higher among households vs. last year's 6,173,000 delivery.

THE CLOSER also showed growth when compared to last year's season 2 premiere among adults 18-49 (2,909,000; +5% vs. last year's 2,767,000 delivery) and among adults 25-54 (3,799,000; +3% vs. last year's 3,706,000 delivery).

Overall, THE CLOSER's season 3 premiere scored an extremely strong 6.8 household coverage rating/5.6 national rating.
