Just read that we even had higher ratings than any of the broadcast networks in the 9PM hour. That's huge!

That is HUGE indeed!!!   8)

And to  our beloved Leader, and all of the assorted cookies, studlies, lovelies, and vixens......

I leave tomorrow morning for Chicago to participate in a 2-day fundraising concert for an organization that provides financial help specifically for people in the arts who are self-employed, and facing critical and life-threatening illnesses.  You can take a look at  www.hopefulheart.com  if you are interested.  I will try to log on when I can.....I think I can still log on, even though I am using someone else's computer??

Then I will fly into NYC on next Monday the 25th, and my hotel says that it has complimentary wireless internet in the rooms.  So I can post, and read, and laugh, and then laugh some more.

We did it! Thanks, Hainsies/Kimlets!

TNT's Season 3 Premiere of THE CLOSER is BEST OF ALL TIME

With more than 8.8 million viewers and 6.3 million households, TNT's THE CLOSER once again broke its own record by scoring ad-supported cable's best delivery of all time for a series telecast.

Last night's third-season premiere averaged 8,812,000 persons 2+ and 6,376,000 households, beating the same records THE CLOSER set with its season 2 premiere last year.

This year's premiere as 4% higher among persons 2+ vs. last year's 8,499,000 delivery and 3% higher among households vs. last year's 6,173,000 delivery.

THE CLOSER also showed growth when compared to last year's season 2 premiere among adults 18-49 (2,909,000; +5% vs. last year's 2,767,000 delivery) and among adults 25-54 (3,799,000; +3% vs. last year's 3,706,000 delivery).

Overall, THE CLOSER's season 3 premiere scored an extremely strong 6.8 household coverage rating/5.6 national rating.

SOURCE:  Turner Research from Nielsen Media Research -- Cable Fast National Data.

I am simply thrilled with this news. Often, junky shows get high ratings and quality efforts get overlooked or are underappreciated. Glad to see this isn't happening with THE CLOSER.

Hooray!

I had a very enjoyable afternoon of entertainment.

I began with LUCY/MAME. The film has never looked as good on home video. Very sharp (except for you-know-who's close-ups), good color with the right level of saturation.

Yes, I knew we'd get the same mono sound, just like in theaters. Seems like I read somewhere that the stereo tracks were destroyed. Still, the sound is strong, and I enjoyed seeing the film again, especially looking so good.

And I still say Robert Preston's "Lovin' You" is about three or four minutes of musical comedy joy. Beautiful song, excellent vocal, well shot and edited to get the most out of the sequence. By far the best thing in the movie.

Some of the time in "It's Today" Lucy is singing but we hear no one.....it might be a blessing, but I was kind of hoping the sound would be better....oh well.

I do have the CD....

Next I watched NANCY DREW REPORTER. Not a great mystery, but it's a fun little spree. Ted's sister and friend are trying little brats but otherwise, the movie (just a bit over an hour) was fun.

Print used for the transfer is in bad shape though with lots of spotting and some damaged places near the end that were really bad. Sound very full of hiss and flutter. I'm sure they did what they could with what they had to work with, but it's still in pretty wretched shape.

TOD-my favorite surreal movies, or those having surrealistic scenes:
THE 5,000 FINGERS OF DR. T
Jan Svankmeyer's ALICE
THE FORBIDDEN ZONE
HEAD
DONNIE DARKO
THE ELEPHANT MAN
LA JETTE
BRAZIL
DELICATESSEN
MON ONCLE

DR Edidaurus stole my surreal list!
Ah well, we are all surrealist pilgrims, melting clocks in marble halls.
Which brings me to JACQUES BREL IS ALIVE AND WELL AND LIVING IN PARIS - now that's another favorite surreal film.

I mentioned this when I got the laserdisc about a year ago, but it's even more noticeable on the new DVD: Lucy is so robotic in "It's Today" and "Mame." There's not an ounce of ease or spontaneity about her dancing or movement, especially in dance numbers. I know she was coming off of a badly broken leg and was probably tentative about moving much, but she's just so frozen and joyless with a fake plastic smile plastered on her face. Pretty painful to watch her. For most of the numbers, I was looking elsewhere.

Well alert the media and unleash the hounds.....because of general lack of bodies and interest on the part of the PCPH public....

I will be playing Mortimer in the 2007 production of THE FANTASTICKS.

A star is born.

Do you have a harp for the production?
