Thanks DRs DtM and MUSIC GUY for the congratulations.....I shall try to live up to them.

It helps that I am 1/16 Cherokee....it hurts because every time I tap dance, it rains.

Mortimer's about as much real Native American as Queen Victoria! I'm certain, though, that you will be quite funny in the role.

I finished my afternoon putting DREAMGIRLS back in the Blu-ray player and watching a couple of numbers in the extended scenes section. "Step into the Bad Side" is totally different from the way it appears in the finished film (actually gave Jamie Foxx something to do) and I enjoyed seeing the longer versions of "I Am Changing" and "Heavy," too.

DR Edidaurus stole my surreal list!
Ah well, we are all surrealist pilgrims, melting clocks in marble halls.
Which brings me to JACQUES BREL IS ALIVE AND WELL AND LIVING IN PARIS - now that's another favorite surreal film.

One of mine, too! I'd forgotten it.

How? you may ask. Well, I don't know.

Well alert the media and unleash the hounds.....because of general lack of bodies and interest on the part of the PCPH public....

I will be playing Mortimer in the 2007 production of THE FANTASTICKS.

A star is born.

Wonderful, JRAND! Congratulations. There will be a DVD, yes?

I leave tomorrow morning for Chicago to participate in a 2-day fundraising concert for an organization that provides financial help specifically for people in the arts who are self-employed, and facing critical and life-threatening illnesses.  You can take a look at  www.hopefulheart.com  if you are interested.

What a wonderful organization you started! I would love to order a CD (I must hear "TOY TRUMPET"!) as well as make a small donation. (wish it could be more...) Please let me know how I can do both!

Do you have a harp for the production?

Of course.

I am usually in charge of harping, but that will come later.  8)

DR JRand - Congratulations on your role in The Fantasticks.  Who's The Mute?

Joan Osborn.....very nice and funny lady.  She came to auditions with signs:

"Do you have anyone for the role of The Mute?"

"Will you consider a female?"

"I would like to audition for the role."   ;D

PEEPING TOM

Re: PEEPING TOM. It is so creepy that it's hard to say I "like" it. Respect it, yes. Admire it, yes. But "like"?  It gives me the creeps just thinking about it. Please don't ask me to explain how that brings us to surreal, but somehow it does.

I have the films and the soundtracks of both. Remember the scene in which Davy Jones dances to Daddy's Song and his tux changes back and forth from black to white? That was just magical and thrilling to me when I was in Jr. high, and one of those moments, like the end of HAROLD AND MAUDE, that led me to be an editor, even though I didn't know what an edit was at the time!

I will check out Guy Maddin. Where do I begin?

I just DVR'd HEAD recently, and that Jones scene is really great. Especially because they couldn't use the tricks of today to do that, i.e. just change his colors with computer. I love that psych Nesmith Birthday party editing as well. The song "Do I Have to Do this All Over Again?"

Guy Maddin, start with CAREFUL or THE SADDEST MUSIC IN THE WORLD. Both are extremely expressionistic, borrowing heavily from early cinema, but yet both also have a wonderful sense of humor. I saw SADDEST MUSIC in the exact same theater I watched your film in, come to think of it!

I need to see PEEPING TOM. I rented it one time because a director I was working with loved it. The tape was defective and then I forgot about it.

I forgot to include THE APPLE and PUTNEY SWOPE----maybe not surreal---maybe just plain weird!

Why don't they "type" first thing every audition? Cut out the people you aren't going to hire anyway. Save everyone's time.

Why not??...because a performer might have a talent so great as to transcend the producer or director's original idea of what the character "should" look like.  If they got rid of someone right off the bat all the time, they could easily remove the best performers without even knowing it. :)

There are two women who obviously coordinate their jaunts to the dog park.  Between them they have an interesting collection of little dogs.  They are nice & their dogs play well with Sherlock.

Today they showed us the creek behind the dog park.  All the little dogs, and people, watched while Sherlock had a grand romp through the water. :D

Is that why we had a woman audition for El Gallo last night?  :P

When they cast someone who is obviously not right for the role, I don't believe the story. Like the obese woman  cast as Miss Adelaide.

Geez....that's interesting.  If she was the best El Gallo who auditioned, you could easily reinstate "The Rape Ballet"...I mean...who would beLIEVE it?

I again find myself awaiting Deep Discount packages that seem to take forever and day to arrive.  One package was mailed last Wednesday.

And then there's UPS.  I've seen two UPS trucks arrive and depart....neither leaving me a package that is supposedly "Out for Delivery" since 4:40 a.m. today.
