Speaking of non-linear films:

I edited a film called DAUGHTERS OF THE DUST. It was written in a non-linear fahion, and was supposed to follow the griot-style tradition of storytelling. I edited it as the script was written, but after several screenings, our AMERICAN PLAYHOUSE executive producer decided that the storyline was confusing. (I had to agree with him.)

I re-edited it and put every scene in chronological order and it was easier to follow.

After that, it was prasied over and over for its "nonlinear storytelling method." If you do a search for DAUGHTERS OF THE DUST + "nonlinear" you will get lots of hits. I am always amazed that this is considered a nonlinear film when I struggled to make it exactly the opposite when it wasn't shot that way!

I love John's Pizza, especially the converted church in the theatre district. (Although the Village one is great, I love the adaptive use of the church.)

Had an entertaining evening of viewing.

I began by finishing THE WILD WILD WEST episode which I was 3/4 finished with earlier in the day. I was half right about the villain. She was in cohoots with someone else.

Next I put in THE HILL. I'm not sure I ever saw this movie all the way through, and if I did, it was so long ago that I didn't remember that much about it, but it was marvelous. I can see why it wasn't popular over here. The accents are very thick especially at the beginning, and I suspect some folks had a hard time understanding what the men were saying. (I was tempted to turn on the closed captions and rewatch the first thirty minutes, but I didn't do it. I may at some future date.)

The DVD looks very nice indeed.

I watched tonight's ENTOURAGE, a pretty entertaining story of Vince and his pals trying to deal with Harvey Weinstein. Of course, it was an actor playing Harvey. M Night Shamaylan played himself in the episode.

I also got about 2/3 of the way through WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION. How I love this film! I wish they'd do a new transfer and get some of those specks and other damage taken care of. Of course, it also would look better with anamorphic enhancement.

And Miss K, yes, that is Elmo, and yes, they like to sleep with pillows, in whatever form. Bailey prefers a nice, warm external hard drive.

Edisaurus, can you shed any light on why TNT insists on running those
!&*%! ads that take up any where from a  1/4 to 1/3 of the screen  right over the top of the movie you are trying to watch?

It's dang annoying!!

Tonight, this very skittish cow cat came to the patio to eat. He shows up every once in a while. We call him "April." I don't remember why -- we must have thought it was a female at one time. April is so skittish that he usually runs when he sees me. I took this through the screened window in the door.

It's dang annoying!!

A lot of people write in to TNT to say the very thing. I can't stand them, either. I think it's a response to TiVo and other services which eliminate commercials, so  sometimes it's the  only way they can promote their own shows. And I don't know if it's because I watch TNT in HD on a bigger screen, but I've never remembered them being so HUGE!

There are a few I like, when they're clever, like when the littel NASCAR pit crew comes out and changes a tire. But generally I find them very distracting.

Their other rationale is that "all the other networks are doing it", like USA, etc.

You will start to see more and more product placement, too!

Thanks, DR Laura! April love----she/he looks a lot like our little cow cat, Elmo.

Sometimes another cat also makes a good pillow!

Der B, I mentioned to the HEARTLAND promo producer that you/Fletcher were disapoonted to miss the repeat of the episode that was lost when they changed times. She said to remind you that you can watch it online at tnt.tv and if not, she could probably get you a copy.

And now I have to go rest...... I'm worn out from being rugged and macho and studly all day today.  And I need to go check the lockers and the showers to make sure that no one left the water running, or any soap on the floor.

(I blame Jose!)
