I suppose I should get dinner started, if I'm going to have it ready for eating before I get to bed.

Steak.  Sauteed mushrooms.  Scalloped potatoes.  (Haven't tried that one for some time.)  Maybe a bit of salad.

3D-Beautiful little finch, I hope you see many more in your yard.

Ginny-All those costumes lost, so sad.  The story was very touching.

Edi-The I=Phone was cute.  I liked the “no rights reserved” at the end.

Good Evening!

I think this is the first night I've actually been home before 10:00pm in a couple of days.  And the only reason I think/know that is because I have a slew of programs to watch on the DVR.  But for now, I post.

I went and checked the pledges and sure enough, I put one in for Miss Karen, so all is well.

Miss Karen, do you know about the shares?  :)

I had a nice meeting with Barry Pearl - I'm about eighty percent sure I'm going to ask him to be The Brain.

My new Thursday restaurant is Jerry's because, as much as I don't like the jernt, they have GREAT tomato bisque soup on Thursday.   I had a cup, two pieces of rye bread, and chicken tenders for my meal o' the day.  Very good!

DR TCB - Business for Grey Gardens has been relatively good, but not great.  Even after the Tony nominations, they did not get that much of a bump at the box office.  And I know that January and February were very slow for them.  However, with Mary Louise Wilson leaving the show on July 29th, it was only sort of natural that the show would close then too.  -Even though it's a "Tony winner", it's still a hard sell at the box office.

So, I think I am finally "one" with the "Cassie dance" (a.k.a. "Music and the Mirror").  Today's rehearsal went rather well, and I finally could just lay back and play and have fun.  And, again, it's sooooo nice having the drummer there.  The number was originally choreographed with a drummer to start off with, so, to have all those hits and accents truly makes a world of difference.

I also was able to catch the final part of the run before lunch break.  The new cast members look and sound great!  -And they still have a good week and a half before their debut.

Fun/funny site o' the day department:

www.popularitydialer.com

You can have it phone your cell when you know you're going to be in a meeting you want to get out of.   The call sounds "real"--there's a prerecorded voice calling you that "converses" with you.  Or you can do what my sons did today, and have it call someone (in this case their mother) with a fake love call.

I also had to spend a bit of time at City Center today.  No, I did not see Gypsy again today - although I was very tempted too since they still had a slew of tickets left for tonight's Opening.  Instead, I was at City Center trying to find someone who could help me locate my business card holder that I left in the theatre last night.  I had called this morning, and nothing had been turned into the Lost & Found, but they also told me that the Theatre Manager and the House Manager weren't in yet, and any L&F items may still be in their offices.  So, around 3:00, I headed back over to City Center to see if I could go ahead and get back into the theatre, and check for myself.  Well...

I went to the Box Office... Where I was then directed to go to the Stage Door Security Desk... Where I was then asked to sign in and go up to the 9th Floor Administration Offices...  Where a most helpful executive assistant, Alex, tried to locate the on-duty Theatre Manager...  Well, after she had called around a few places, she then called back down to the security desk, and was told that I could just be escorted into the theatre and go check my seat location from last night.  Well...

Once I got back down to the desk, the security guard started to walk me in, but as soon as we got buzzed into the backstage area, her supervisor came in after us and said that since a rehearsal was going on, the theatre was closed.  So, we headed back to the security desk... Where some of the staff were arguing back and forth about what someone had said earlier in the day regarding access to the loading dock.  This went on and on for a few minutes.  "So, what should I do now?" I asked.  -Well, let me try to reach the Theatre Manager.  At that point the other supervisor spoke up again, and told the guard to try her cell phone.  -She's not here right now, but her cell phone number is right there.  So... What does the security guard do?  He gets on the intercom and walkie-talkie system asking for the Theatre Manager. :-\

After a couple of repeated pages - and some more arguing about the use of the loading dock - the security guard calls down to his supervisor who informs him again to call the Theatre Manager on her cell phone.  So... The security guard tries the cell phone... No answer.  Tries again... No answer...  Then more arguing with the other guard about the loading dock...

"Um.. Excuse me, so what should I do now?"  -Well, just write down your info here on this piece of paper, and we'll have someone get back to you later.  OK...

Then I asked what time would the House Manager be in tonight... -7:30.  "But, the show is at 6:30 tonight."  -Oh, you're right.  Well, I guess 6:00-ish then.  So...

I make my way back around to the Box Office, and ask the friendly gentleman behind the window what time the House Manager would be in.  -She'll be in at 6:00 for the 6:30 show.   OK - although, 6:00 seems a little late for me for a 6:30 curtain, and an Opening Night to boot.

So, since I had a few errands to run around midtown, I took care of those, and then head back to the City Center around 5:45.   I ask if the House Manager is available... -Not until 6:00.  Hmm... OK.  Then I start noticing various ushers and assistants walking in and out of the lobby doors, and I just eventually walk in and ask where the House Manager is.. -Right over there.

I explain my situation to her, and she says that once the theatre is open, that it would be OK to run upstairs and look for myself.  Well... The opened the doors at 6:00, but the theatre proper did not open until 6:15.

And to bring this somewhat shaggy dog story to a close, I did not find my business card holder.  And, yes, I'm a little bummed about it.  I've actually had it for a couple of years, and it was really "cool", and just perfect for my needs.  Of course, besides my business cards and some cards from other people, I used to keep my MetroCard for the subway, and, of course, I had just bought a new one yesterday for the week.  -And, of course, you can't request a credit for a One Week MetroCard, only 30-day one.  In any case...

Maybe I'll get a call from the lost and found office tomorrow telling me they found it, and that I can go pick it up.  Or I may just head down to Tumi or Macy's or Sak's or Business Card Cases 'R' Us and buy a new one.  However, I really do like the one I had/lost.  And since I bought it in Richmond, and since I'm heading down there next week, well...  We'll see.  *Although, I do have to admit that I already did check at Sak's and the MoMA Design Store... And the Tumi store was already closed by the time I went by there.

Basta!

As for USPS vs. UPS...  As I've stated before, I've always had good service - luck - with the USPS.  Yes, there have been occasional glitches, but what business doesn't from time to time.  And UPS rates lately have gone up so much, that they're really not a practical alternative anymore.

No worries.  I just figured after all the inept people I had dealt with, and the frustration, that I was just bound to find my credit card case.  I'm just glad that I did not put some "mad cash" or my ID in there like I sometimes do.  Then I definitely would have been in a panic.

DR Jose - that story sounds like a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing!  Sorry you lost your business card case - hope tomorrow is a lucky Friday the 13th and you find it.

The TOD reminded me that I had a vivid dream last night about playing Charades.  Whatever I was trying to act out had the word RED in it and I kept pointing to the red shirt that I had on.

In the Gypsy reports, I don't think anyone has discussed the "You Gotta Get a Gimmick" number.  How were those 3 ladies?

DR Laura:

Quotes from 3D:

Quote
Sell shares in the production here!  Everyone who contributes gets their money back and a name in the program...

Hey, if you're serious, I'll put my money where my mouth is. 500 people contribute $100 each via paypal...guaranteed to get it back via paypal at show's close?

$50 or $100, depending on how many people contribute.

Response from BK:

Well,  500 people would net us 50K - so how about 50 people at 100 per?

Tell you what - before we get anyone to actually do it - how about everyone who's interested can send me an e-mail at kritzerland@aol.com and if we get fifty folks, I'll give the go-ahead.  Then, when the box-office receipts are distributed to us (usually takes a month or two from what I understand), then dough is returned via paypal.  I like it!

They practically steal the show!  Alison Fraser - who supped at Joe Allen once with bk and a couple of DRs - Marilyn Caskey and Nancy Opel really make the number their own.  And Marty Pakledinaz's costumes are a "gimmick" in themselves.

I thought it was the USPS that had a recent rate hike that everyone was up in arms about. (Well, every magazine publisher.) But of course they wouldn't be using UPS either so that's a moot point.

DR singdaw - A friend of mine who is a trucker, swears by his cellphone modem.  Yes, it's not always the fastest connection, but it basically works anywhere he is, and he managed to get a great deal on a data plan.  He uses Sprint.  Sprint used to sell a separate data kit for their phones, but I think some of them now are equipped with a USB hook-up.
