DR Julie - thanks for your input about 54th & 9th.  We're quite excited about calling that neighborhood home for a week!

BK--are you going to reveal the answer to this week's Unseemly Trivia Contest?  I have to admit I was completely stumped on this one.

Well, I for one am sure pissed! I was looking forward to seeing you on the East Coast.  I am so sorry that plans have fallen apart.  I'm sure the next locale will be better and happier.

Thanks for the sentiments, DR Elmore, I, too, I'm a bit pissed that things didn't work out.  We are still planning on the move east, just not at the moment.  For the time being, we're staying here in the SF Bay Area.  We'll get there someday :)

Thishttp://esthervilledailynews.com/News/articles.asp?articleID=5612 was in my home town paper this morning  :)

Very, very nice :)

I remember watching a news special on the bully that was killed by the townspeople.  You really couldn't blame them for getting rid of the guy & keeping quiet about it.

Yes, but do you want to lecture her on the dangers of tanning salons?

Does anyone else think Joan Ryan looks like Hilary Swank?

Actually, Hilary Swank looks like Joan Ryan. ;)

I see DR George beat me to that one.  Ah - getting behind in the posts does have its drawbacks!

Don't worry, you'll catch up...or at least, ketchup.

Where do you put the word for the hyperlink?  Before or after the web address. I can't seem to get that right

[ url = http : // esthervilledailynews.com/News/articles.asp?articleID=5612 ]THIS [ /url ]

THIS is how you do it, but don't use any spaces between the open and close brackets.

Here was the trivia question:

Two plays - one season.  The season was littered with flop plays.  Play one was one of many flop comedies that season.  It was directed by someone who was equally known as a producer and playwright and who had several hits, one of them a big musical comedy.  The cast included an actor making a sort of comeback, said actor being most well-known for playing one role early in his career.  A female co-star would go on to appear in a classic musical, and a male co-star would go on to appear in two classic musicals.

Flop play two ran a bit longer than flop play one, and was adapted from a novel.  Even though the play was a flop, it would ultimately be turned into a hit film. The person who adapted it would, just a few short years later, write a classic musical.  The play starred someone who'd appeared on Broadway many years prior to this play, but who was much better known as a motion picture star.  Also in the play was an actor who, a few short years later, would co-star in a classic motion picture, and then star in a classic motion picture, which would lead to him to becoming a beloved film star of his era.  Also in the cast was an actor who would, a few short years later, star in a classic musical.  Another co-star originally began a career in a different field of show business, and said co-star was very successful in said field.  Said co-star also became legendary for one piece of comic business.

So:

Play one:  Name the play, name the director, and name the big musical comedy he directed.

Name the actor who was making a sort of comeback, name the role he was most famous for playing, and name the reason for the sort of comeback.

Name the female co-star and the classic musical in which she'd appear.

Name the male co-star and the two classic musicals in which he'd appear.

Play two: Name the play.

Name the star who played the lead

Name the co-star who would co-star in a classic movie, then star in a classic movie, and name the two movies.

Name the co-star who would go on to star in a classic musical and name the musical

Name the co-star who started out in another field of show business, tell us what said co-star did, and name the comic piece of business the co-star would become legendary for.

And here are the various and sundried answers:

Play One -

Love and Kisses/Dore Schary/The Unsinkable Molly Brown

Larry Parks/Al Jolson/his comeback after many years on the blacklist

Susan Browning/Company

Bert Convy/Fiddler On The Roof and Cabaret

Play two -

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

Kirk Douglas

Gene Wilder/Bonnie and Clyde/The Producers

William Daniels 1776

Ed Ames/singer with his brothers and on his own - legendary comedy business - throwing a tomahawk on the Johnny Carson Show, at a cut-out of Mr. Carson, said tomahawk landing directly in the cut-out's crotch.

Our High Winners were FJL, JMK, and Jrand.  I put the names in our Electronic Hat, which chose Jrand as our Highest Winner.  So, if he'll send his address we'll send him a sparkling prize.

As much as I thought I knew about Gene Wilder, including his stage work, I never knew he played Billy Bibbit in Cuckoo's Nest.

Arrrgggh -- this trying to find a place in NYC is driving me nuts!!! Does anyone know anything about nycityliving.com -- like are they ligit, have a good rep, etc.  The NYC Better Business Bureua posting says "they just got information on the company so check back in 4-6 weeks" so what does that mean getting info on them? -- that they're a new company, or that someone has filed a complaint?  And 4-6 weeks will be a little late for me. I found a place through them but the agent is doing that thing that yes they'll take a credit card but is pushing the use of their Bank of America account -- and is a full month's rent a normal security deposit? And how does that work getting it back -- I'm going to call him to say I want to do it on my credit card even if it's the deal breaker cause if it's a scam I will have a way to dispute the charges and ask about how they hold the deposit and how I get it back. At the other place, called Prestige Group, the guy said his fee was the full month's rent and I said well that's way too much (most of them charge around $200-300) so he comes back with, oh, well, it's all negotiable -- and I said, well I'll have to think about it and get back to you -- NOT! I HATE bartering and playing games. Good golly, post the damn total (fees, deposits, etc.) and the pictures and location, and then I'll let you know if we have a deal...sheeeesh!!
