After a very long 4 weeks plus 3 extra days, Bryan finally received his MCAT (medical college admission test) scores.

DR Ron-VIBES you have a solution to your car woes by the end of the day!

The trouble turned out to be a "fried" ignition starter module.  It's an "electronic part" -- the whole experience will cost me about $350, including parts and labor (with the replacement module costing $250  of that total).

I leave in a few minutes to pick up my car!

Good news on the weather front....the temperature has dropped significantly as onshore breezes have picked up (after a lo-o-o-o-ng absence, IMO) and cool air is being pumped in, driving out all that muggy warm air.  The smoke remains "above" the fray, sad to say, but the cooler air means I don't have to run the A/C tonight!

TCB (or PVC, if you prefer),
It makes me angry to hear about the treatment you're receiving from your doctor. It's just like what I experienced. So little compassion, so much one-size-fits-all. One doctor pooh-poohed my request for a colonoscopy at age 50, gave me a sigmoidoscopy instead, telling me it was the same thing (literally!), then, when it was negative, gave me a verbal pat on the head, completely ignoring all my concerns. I dropped that doc. (He also did some very sloppy prescribing.) Another doc, says to me whenever I express a concern about my health, "But you look so healthy!" Arrrgghhh!! For me, it was a matter of hitting the books, reading up as much as I could, and then being VERY selective with the docs. I have no health insurance, all visits are in cash out of my pocket, so if a doctor or treatment doesn't help, well, you get the picture.

My conclusion, after many years of seeing dozens of doctors and receiving lots of treatment: that the majority of practitioners are far behind the research. There is a LOT of research taking place, but in order to keep up with it, said practitioner must do a lot of reading and/or attend seminars. Most, in my view, have chosen to maximize profits by seeing more patients and have neglected the keeping-up part. I know a number of retired physicians; what they say isn't pretty.

Sorry to be so negative, but that's my view.

DR Jeanne, I appreciate your concerns.  My emotions go from discouragement to anger and then back again.  I was almost hostile by the time I got to the physical therapist this afternoon, but he did manage to calm me down.  He didn't do crap for the pain, but I have a feeling he may start advocating for me with all the medical parties involved.

Congrats to Bryan passing his MCAT!!

Thanks.  It isn't really a matter of passing, it's the numbers that count.  And he got them. :)

If only having the numbers would make all the schools fight for him to go to their school.   And if they would all do this in the next couple of weeks.;D

The reality is, it is very difficult to get into medical school & applying is an expensive, long drawn out process.

My experience with PT is you often need pain meds just to do the therapy.  Most the time I find that therapy helps me heal & if I keep up the exercises at home, for the rest of my life, it helps keep the problems under control & the pain levels down.

I'm very pleased the therapist was understanding.  Did he have any suggestions.

He thinks that since the surgeon was so convinced that the cortisone injection would solve the problem, that he may have missed slightly the target and that a second shot might work.  He said that the long needle they use makes it tough to always find the perfect spot for the cortisone.  Hey, I am ready to try it again.

And with your shoulder problem, you certainly couldn't carry around a window coated with vaseline for us to see you through.

If you could watch THE CLOSER from the beginning you might enjoy it.

I have the first disk of season one here.  I've watched a lot of reruns, including all of this season the other day. I just haven't watched it yet. I'm thinking this weekend may be the time.

Interesting.  Be sure to call the surgeon back first thing tomorrow morning.  And again later in the day if you don't speak to him.  Be a pest until you do, or at least relay a message & get a response.

I haven't started watching it yet. I caught the reruns before I saw the last episode, so I wasn't paying attention.   I'll pay attention when I watch and let you know

BB SPOILER

VERY interesting tonight. I never thought this would be the final four.  I am liking the D and D more and more.  Tonight was quite the coup for them. Even if you don't like them, you have to admit they have played a really good game.

Don't you just hate it when you are watching something on the DVR and you forget you can fast forward through the commercials?
