I believe dinner is at seven.  I'm on my way to dry cleaners and Gelson's and I'll be back in about thirty minutes.

If it was DINNER AT EIGHT, Jean Harlow might show up.

We got to page fourteen rather quickly.  Will we never get to page fifteen?

At least they didn't yell at me this time for making some suggestions regarding improving our worship service.

Of course, I shan't ever again make suggestions regarding how to improve our worship service.

We're celebrating the day at different parties.

Joy's off to a girls-only party, which I always imagine involves lingerie, somehow.

She wanted to bring a little gift for everybody there, so we wandered into a fancy card shop.  "How about dreidels?" Joy asked, and it seemed like a fine idea to me.  Wasn't going to cost an arm and a leg.  But then she wanted to know how to play, and, having ended my education in all things Jewish with the pre-kindergarten at the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue some years ago, I had no idea.

Elsewhere in the store, I saw they had crackers, and suggested those.  "Crackers?" Joy scoffed, "There's already plenty to eat."  I then had to explain the tradition of the Christmas cracker, because, apparently, between the two of us, I'M the expert on such things.  What DID those nuns teach Joy?

So, she called the hostess, who boasted that she was expecting 28 guests, which meant $50 worth of crackers.  And she really wanted to know what's inside them.

And all of this reminded me to wish a happy birthday to the man who's the holiday cracker around here.  He cracks a lot of jokes, and if you pull hard on both of his ends, who knows what might come out?

I sometimes get Happy Pearl Mesta cards on my birthday.

Interesting to note, that if you AOL Search, Sacco and Vanzetti, the number one search is for Peter Miller's film.  Wow!

As I mentioned in my review of The McCartney Years, Paul's laser-keen commentary on this song went something like this:  "I decided to take a 'go' at a Christmas song, since Christmas comes around once every year."  

 Those contrapuntal lines stick in your mind for weeks afterward.

He pales in this regard next to Wagner.
